You won't need to track HP loss, as I will do it every round when I do my summary check at the end of each round. I will also post the current initiative order, and give a descriptive summary of how the round went on both sides, as well as roll my actions at that time (I will roll everything on my side at once and you as players do not need to worry about posting initiative order, as I will take your action and apply it as necessary to make it fit as best I can, or ask you to take a different action if some one invalidates yours; for example, someone in your group killing the only group of enemies that you could charge).
If you have questions about the game or whatnot, please don't hesitate to use the discussion tab and we'll talk things out. I will not be using a battle mat, but I *WILL* post a map that shows what your group has the ability to see when combat starts and update it if I need to.
"This is what someone talking would look like" said Billy as he was working on a forum post for his new Play-by-Post game.
I hope this will be fun for everyone! he thought.
My name is not Billy, just so you are aware. Billy is a jerkface.
A note about spoilers: I am a pretty easy-going GM, but there is one thing that drives me crazy, and that is people reading spoilered information that is not intended for them.
Please, please, please, don't do this. It is the one thing that falls under "Two warnings and you will be asked to leave". Please don't put me in that position. I understand that mistakes are made, but if it becomes a pattern of behavior, that's where I draw the line. So again, please don't put me in that situation.
I'm not sure if the previous GM discussed this or not, but you should know that once we get into the mountain, your chances to rest will be limited, and the normal expected ideas of the 10 minute adventuring day will not apply. My goal when all is said and done is to have you down to your cantrips and single digit HP every day that you adventure in the mountain, both so that you will feel challenged, and to keep with the original themes of the source material.
Lastly, please let me know if there are any suggestions you have for how to make things run smoother. As we are going, I will put things you have learned into the Campaign Info tab, to allow you easy access to them. If there is something I missed, please remind me!

Addendum the second:
It's come to my attention that there was a moratorium on how you could spend your wealth by level. I am going to remove that, so you all should feel free to spend your money however you see fit.
With the above being said, however, You should note that you Will not have a chance to craft (including before we start the campaign), and gear will be sporadic/what is available in the module, so you might want to be judicious with your funds.
As 10th level characters, you should have 62,000 gp to spend on all your equipment.
Since Storyteller Shadow made this game possible, I have invited him to join us, which means that we'll have a table of seven. I am prepared for this.
Fuego Firestorm |
I will bear in mind not to read spoilers. Being entirely too curious for my own good, sometimes I do, but do not act on it.
I will firmly reign myself in this time.
Vrog - you're aware at 10th level we have ways to teleport and all that, right? I think you should tell the arcane casters something blocks teleportation in and out of dragon mountain. I have no issues with no shopping trips as long as it's spelt out first.
Theres also plane shift to plane of air for shopping trips.
I know. High level casters break things =(
Fuego Firestorm |
Vrog - do you want me to list the source for every single spell and feat I use? It's going to take a while editing on phone.
I also tried switching to your template - tell me how close I got.
Storyteller Shadow |
Dot, what does the group need for a PC? I was thinking Monk but I can go in any direction.
Fuego Firestorm |
*Bumps head with storyteller shadow*
Mind you, Fuego is a LOT less carefree and innocent as compared to Zip.
Fuego Firestorm |
Storyteller shadow - I think we should wait until everyone has signed in, then take a tally on who we still have around and then it is easier to see.
I'm counting a rogue, bard, witch and another pally yet to sign in.
I'd think we're a little short on range, unless you think lobbing fireballs is fine for range =P
Fuego Firestorm |
Heh the only thing I'm good for, as I said before is lobbing fireballs! I haven't played an evoker for a while! Boom!
Amelia Patterson |
I'm here, and I think the character's all ready to go.
Vrog Skyreaver |
Don't worry about rushing to get everything done today or by this weekend, as I want to make sure everyone has time to retool their characters and make requested changes, along with giving SS the chance to made a 10th level character, which I know can be time-consuming for some people. If there is something that you want to change on your character, please let me know and we can discuss it. I will do my best to be accommodating.
J`Victus |
I have had this problem in other games.
Posting and ethics....this is a very long module for a table top let alone a PBP game.
Ethics:
With any game that involves Paladins there tends to be an unbending my way or not at all way of things....NOT all but in my experience MOST.
Can we some how avoid the ethical questions that will pop up...as this just bogs down the game with RP ethical conundrums that can be enjoyable but tend to not be enjoyable when you wish to actually finish a game before you retire.
Posting:
I have seen in other games where players say yes they can post once a day, no problem. Then they post every 5 days or so and days later the game is still waiting on that person to post. Can we go with..if you do not post in two or three days time you get botted and we move forward. If in combat it should be like a day and we bot you to move forward. I understand that RL comes first and it should but if a player can not commit to the set posting that they knew from the start...then do not submit to a game that ask you to post on a daily basis. It just makes the game go that much slower. I really would like to keep the game moving in the right direction.
Storyteller Shadow |
If Ranged attacks are the item of need, I can build a Zen Archer Monk. EDIT: Or perhaps a Stalker?
Vrog, any objection to a Tengu or Catfolk as the race?
Vrog Skyreaver |
None in Particular, Shadow, but I would tell you to play the character you want to play.
@J'Victus: As far as posting goes, my rule is once a day during the weekday, then if you can on the weekend. As I mentioned above, during combat I roll my actions after everyone has gone, and I do a summation. I will usually give people 24 hours and then bot them.
When it comes to Ethics, I think that will entirely depend on your group and how it deals with situations. There won't necessarily be very many such situations, but I want to make sure that everyone is engaged, and I know that some people enjoy discussing such things and dealing with their repercussions, and I wouldn't want to deny anyone that, so it's possible it may come up.
I am a very cause and effect driven GM, as I will tailor the story based on player actions. I will say that when I commit to a game, I do my best to finish it, regardless of how long it takes, so you need not be concerned in that regard.
Or to put it another way, I believe that actions have consequences, and that player actions can change the story for better or worse...
Fuego Firestorm |
Me = Too happy to discuss ethics for long, long time, but again maybe I have too much time on my hands =(
At the end of the day though, it doesn't really matter to me since this character is N alignment. So whichever way - I can't fall for that...
Ahadiel the Judge |
JV, so far I have played Ahadiel more towards Law than Good.
If you think that poses a problem, please say so.
Amelia Patterson |
I think everything's in pretty good shape for me! Unless anyone has any suggestions on feats or hexes to grab, since the edits opened up a couple of slots. I was thinking of just going with Spell Focus/Spell Penetration, but it might be nice to find something a bit more interesting.
Mihail |
Unfortunate that Thundercall has been nerfed to a standard action activation which reduces Mihail's DPR. I might or might not change that.
Amelia Patterson |
Ooh, I could take Evolved Familiar (skilled) for a +8 bonus to Perception or Stealth. Hmm...
Zoren Valkith |
OK, I just need to tweak Zoren a bit and re-format the Profile then I'll be ready to go.
I may change his mix of spells for more ranged firepower as I opted not to play the ranged PC after all.
GM Skyreaver |
Okay, guys, once I get confirmation from everyone in the group that they've made any desired changes, I'll take one last look at everyone's character sheets and then we can get started; I'll post a "What has gone before" to get everyone on the same page from the previous campaign, and then we'll go forward.
Anyone have any questions yet?
Amelia Patterson |
I think everything's pretty much ready for me. By the way, what'll be happening with the characters from players who are now absent?
Storyteller Shadow |
Saturday I'll have my PC up to speed, been distracted by the Divorce the whole week.
Storyteller Shadow |
G#* d#*mit, I was feeling like s*!# last night and just ran out of time tonight. I'll get the PC up tomorrow, apologies for my delay here folks.
