Deathwatch: Sons of Jericho IC

Game Master Rookseye

For untold centuries the Deathwatch have stood vigil over the Jericho Reach. Now, the disparate Astartes of Kill-team Umbra must vanquish a threat and unravel a mystery which portends to place the entirety of the Achilus Crusade in jeopardy.

That's the best approach, I think, Deiros. Don't worry, you have plenty of time to catch-up and consider character options. I try not to shoehorn new characters in, so there is no rush.

Hope everyone who celebrates had a nice Memorial Day holiday!

Well, this is a first, 35 years of New England living and today was my first experience with hiding in the cellar from a tornado. Good-sized one touched down and flattened a good portion of Springfield, the city west of me. Thunderstorms non-stop tonight it seems.

To think, the worst weather around here used to be the occasional blizzard or ice-storm.

Male Half-Orc 9th lvl Cleric, 4th lvl Ninja, 1st lvl Black Flame Zealot

Yeah there has been alot of crazy weather lately. Don't think its going to be over anytime soon. Got to love global warming...

Happy you and your family are safe. Hopefully the tornado in Springfield will be the last of the excitement in your area for awhile.

It was a bit surreal to be honest, deciding to go hang out in the cellar for a couple of hours for weather is not something folks in Massachusetts are used to doing, or do lightly. I can't imagine what the poor people in the midwest and south have gone through in recent months.

Worst of it seems to be over now.

Dark Archive

GM W.R. Monger

Don't like to poop in the party but, hurricane season just started guys...

Dark Archive

Male Human Warhammer 40K GM

Yep, I have a hunch the crazy weather won't be letting up for a while.

Catman,

Either way it's Caledonii that's in harm's way so whichever plan you prefer, let Rook know. Both are fine by me.

Glory and Honor!

OK, moving forward with the Comm Tower to keep pace.

A battlemap is forthcoming for the Comm Tower group once we have everyones Initiative, likely tomorrow night as I will update the Oremor Affliction during the day.

Eradico:
Books arrived today, Eradico! Great selection, thanks again!

Rook:
No prob! Enjoy!

Hey team, really liking the role-playing interactions from the past couple of weeks! Looking forward to the climactic end of "Extraction" (and also hoping we aren't left behind as Tyranid fodder and/or Exterminatus kindling!).

Dark Archive

Male Human Warhammer 40K GM

Yep, the character development is starting to come along nicely. Don't worry, Eradico, failure always has a cost, but I don't think you need to worry about one roll ending the campaign for everyone, heh.

I don't know if any of you have seen the Ultramarines movie. It may not be there long. You might have qualms about watching it this way but I've had trouble trying to find a copy via Netflix or Blockbuster.

Some decent scenes but overall I was a little disappointed by it.

Spoiler alert! Also some of the movie characters are available on the FFG site.

Dark Archive

Hehehe Eradico beat me in posting those :-)

The movie was not that much close to fluff, that makes it disappointing for me to a certain extent, tho I enjoyed the Chaplain's power even if it looked more like a librarian power since I do not remember chaplains having powers.

Male Half-Orc 9th lvl Cleric, 4th lvl Ninja, 1st lvl Black Flame Zealot

The movie was decent as an intro to 40k for the newcomer. For fluff junkies I agree is was pretty weak. Though I did have a good laugh on how easily the land speeder was taken down. That was fairly accurate.

Dark Archive

GM W.R. Monger

Yeah landspeedrs... they are useful tank hunters and anti-infantry if you want, but they are made out of paper mache so they are usually replaced by marine bikes.

Dark Archive

Male Human Warhammer 40K GM

I saw the movie as well (thanks for the link, Eradico) and although I agree with Bal that is was pretty light on fluff, it was actually better than I thought it would be. The story was distilled down to the bare bones of the 40K universe and easily digestible (likely as Bal said for newcomers to the mythology), but seemed pretty loyal to the canon overall.

Most of you have probably noticed a slow-down in posting as of late, and for that I apologize. Mostly it is just the usual RL things that take priority, most specifically work, where I've been covering a lot due to some co-worker's illnesses and an expansion of my responsibilities. Some nights there just hasn't been much left in the tank to cover two campaigns, as much as I'd like to. This is not to say that I intend to stop or shutter either one, its just that I'd rather post quality material then do it when I'm exhausted.

The good news, is that this allowed me to better set-up a posting schedule for the campaigns, something I've been toying with for some time. This is pretty flexible, but it will let me focus my efforts better when it is time to update. My idea is to essentially alternate days for the two campaigns. Since eventually we will have equal membership in each campaign, this makes more sense now. I resisted this notion before because some people in the Sons of Jericho campaign weren't in the Oremor Affliction campaign. With Deiros and Eradico now coming aboard, this is less of a concern for me. I've also assessed what day is hardest for me to post, which I have elected to take off.

So, here is what I'm proposing:

  • Monday - Off
  • Tuesday - Dark Heresy - The Oremor Affliction
  • Wednesday - Deathwatch - Sons of Jericho
  • Thursday - Dark Heresy - The Oremor Affliction
  • Friday - Deathwatch - Sons of Jericho
  • Saturday - Dark Heresy - The Oremor Affliction
  • Sunday - Deathwatch - Sons of Jericho

Again, this is only a rough outline, if I have the capability of throwing a post to the dark game on any given night, or inspiration suddenly grabs me, you bet I'll be posting to both. In fact, I could see this happening quite a bit. I just wanted everyone to know where the focus would be on any given evening. I also see this as a way to ensure that neither campaign loses momentum.

This seems like a good time to open the floor to any concerns, questions, or recommendations for the two campaigns as well, so please, give me your feedback on how things are progressing.

I feel the same way that I would much rather post something intelligible then not. The "calendar" looks good as well. Keep up the good work I am really enjoying both games.

Rook,

First off, no apologies are needed with regard to posting rates. Life is what it is and I know, based upon the quality and quantity of your written interactions, that you are fully committed to the game(s). I consider myself lucky to have been included with such a quality GM and quality fellow gamers!

The schedule looks great and I'm looking forward to both campaigns!

I won't mind the choice you make on this Rook, just as long as I can finish joining the oremor affliction hahahaha. No, seriously I think we all understand RL just gets to ya somehow and you still post regularly enough for me. That week schedule is fair enough considering it is you who gives us your time to be a narrator =)

Best Regards to all.

Well I hope it misses or does not get the agl test otherwise I am 1 or 2 hits off of killing it. If he dies though it would be a good death and before he goes he will fill that he has atoned for Vigil incident.

All hope is not yet lost for Caledonii, his decimating the horde before it got to him in melee might be the difference in the next two rounds. Please see the IC post, Catman as you'll have to re-take your action since you are in melee now.

Yeah, hang in there Caledonii! I'm sure Emeric's "expert" marksmanship will save the day...

lol It should help just in case the dice are not friendly again. That was a 5 roll at the wrong time. The rest of the round should look good at least.

Rook: offline until Saturday night. NPC me as needed.

Will do Eradico.

Hey team, I'm back and will post soon.

Catman, nice observation about the Kraken rounds. I wasn't using them for their armor penetration but for their increased range. Had I not been using them earlier in the combat then I would have received a long-range penalty.

Rook, I was tracking the distance closely and would have used regular rounds for the last auto-fire since Emeric was inside of 100 yards. Is it OK if I mark regular rounds instead of Kraken for round #4?

No problem Eradico, feel free to retcon that.

Great. Thanks. Ammo count updated in my last IC post.

I've updated the character capsules on the Sons of Jericho Wiki with a few 'at a glance items' I have been intending to add for a while.

If you are looking for a link for a sample of what was added, you can follow this link to Brother Caledonii to see the layout. If there is anything else that you, as players, would like to see referenced on this page, please let me know. I know I always find I am trying to look up Personal Demeanours for everyone.

At the bottom of each each profile there is now:

  • Personal Demeanour
  • Chapter Demeanour
  • Armor History and Game Effects
  • Chapter Trapping and Game Effects
  • Ammo Counter

I plan on going over the existing IC pages to note whether or not anyone has used either their Personal or Chapter Demeanour 'Fate Point' to this point and checking it off as used as appropriate. If you remember if you used yours or not, please let me know below.

Ammunition counts are going to be updated as well, likely starting with the next scenario, as I'd lost track some time ago after losing my scratch file tracking what everyone had left. Given this is the last encounter of the present mission, and everyone was doing fairly well (even with specialty ammo) I don't foresee this as a problem.

Dark Archive

GM W.R. Monger

Well I will ask for some absent time, I know i haven't been active but with all this RL job issues I'm getting a little hard pressed to do more than just some posting, so I will try to do something about it even during this ridiculous deadlines I just got lol, thank you august 2 deadline...

Hardly worth correcting at this point but sometime after original character creation I posted that Emeric wore the Deathwatch Tabard for my chapter trapping. Devotion Chain was listed on Emeric's Paizo character page but that is now changed.

By my tally I have used ALL fate points AND my chapter demeanour 'fate point' (*gulp*).

I have been pretty religious about updating my ammo count whenever I post a bolter attack for Brother Emeric. Keeping track has not been logistically difficult for me and it's forced me to make some decisions over the course of the scenario. Down to only three Kraken rounds!

For Rook

Spoiler:
Just an observation, Hrothgar's strength after inputting the armor effect (+20) I think should be 69.

Dark Archive

Just noticed that Rad, thanks for finding it, I'll correct it now.

Dark Archive

As only marines and their allies are left for the rest of Round #4, feel free to take your Actions and Reactions whenever you wish, I will employ the Magos and Guardsmen as needed at the end of the round.

Sent u an email Rook.

I see some confusion about my chapter trapping. The claymore was a substitution for the combat knife that was mentioned in the Storm Wardens section page 52 under starting gear.

tempest amulet (stoRm waRdens)

The native traditions of Sacris place a strong emphasis on the
ability of an individual to affect change in the world through
strength of arm and force of will. Tempest Amulets are rooted
in mysticism, but also serve as a focus for the Storm Warden’s
stubborn will. These small leather pouches contain “tempest
stones,” rocks fused into glass by the fierce lightning storms of
Sacris and wrapped in prayer scripts written by the owner.
• Amulet of Might: Add +2 to Strength (after all other
modifiers).
• Victory Scripture: Gain +2 WS when fighting an
enemy in single melee combat.
• Guardian Amulet: The enveloped scripts venerate the
Storm Warden’s lost 1st Company, so that they will send
aid to the bearer in times of greatest peril. The amulet
counts as a Charm....

is my chapter trapping. I believe that if I can only have one I picked the Guardian Amulet though it almost by the way its written would give all 3 bonuses.

Male Human Warhammer 40K GM

No worries, Catman, I'll make the adjustment.

Just an FYI guys, I'm off on a long overdue, albeit short, vacation with the family over the next three days, so posting likely will be light, if at all (depends on the presence of wireless where we are staying). Posting should resume by the weekend.
