I'm loving it as well. The system's really quite evocative and ZZ you're doing a great job!!! I can't wait to see what further exploits my little Zealot has in store :)
With a strength belied by her slight frame, Mareike gathers the two dwarves in to a tight embrace. A sob or two shakes her frame, her emotions at the dwarves' acceptance overcoming her for a moment. Releasing her companions, she has regained her composure.
Standing up from the mud and blood, she looks down at herself, equally muddy and bloody, and says ruefully "I'll take that lesson in armor maintenance now."
She then makes her way over the the ruins of the cultists magical portrait. Gathering up her daggers, she also tears a strip of canvas away and tucks it into her belt.
Marieke glances up at the manor, seeing exactly how high up she was earlier "Sigmar be blessed!" she says in wonder at what she accomplished. Turning, she walks to the corpse of the minotaur, leaving the horns for the dwarves, she nonetheless tears free one of its yellowed fangs, scraping away blood and gore. This too she tucks into her belt.
Satisfied, she then walks to where the other stand with Lord Rikkard. "Lord, it was good that Sigmar deigned to have us here to root out this abscess of chaos. It would behoove you to purify this land so as to prevent this occurance in the future; that underground temple has been here for a long while. Fire purifies quite well!" Mareike says calmly, her eyes sparkling with righteousness.
Fernis Stoutanvil |
Fernis stands dumbfounded by the girl's embrace, but says nothing as is their way. A smile cracks his face as he sees the girl gather her trophies and renew her fire for cleansing chaos. After a moment he says, "Lass where is your lord's hammer? Should it not be replaced to it's setting in the alter? And where is that Vern? Haven't seen the coot in some time?"
Mareike |
Looking at Fernis aghast, Marieke suddenly very much looks her age as she dashes back to the body of the Minotaur, where the hammer lays in the mud. Sweeping the weapon up to her breast, Marieke carries it back to the ramshackle shrine and reverently places the instrument of Sigmar's will upon the small altar.
Stepping back , mouthing apologies to the Lord, Marieke pauses for a moment , eyes shut against the tears welling there. A deep breath and she turns to walk back to the others.

Question then is if we look for a substitute for Zad? Oh and is it ok when we take on Edge of Night as our second module?
Three advanced for everyone for completing the introductory advanture. Fill the fortune pool up again
Finally Vern cautiously leaves the manor. In his outsretched arm he has his trusty dagger and he wears a pot as helm and some kind of platter as breastplate
M'lord! Are you alive and well?
But Lord Rikkard jsut shakes his head and turns to Mareike
[b]If one of the two dwarves could make sure that the fire does not extent to the house, I think burning that place could be a good idea.[/ooc]

Edge of night is great. I do plan to run Gathering Storm with my 'test group' with the option of playing Edge of Night after that, so I haven't read it. yet ;-) As for Zad, I'd say we put the open slot up at the campfire first and see if anyone wants to jump in
Rangnir just nods and gets to work.
Mareike |
I'd don't know any of the adventures, so I'm open to anything.
I agree with Rangnir's suggestion.
Mareike gives Lord Rikkard a huge smile then follows Rangnir to help any way she can.
Fernis Stoutanvil |
Fernis erupts in laughter as Vern exits in his fine armour. "Vern, I have seen many fanciful helms and breastplates in my day which eluded to station and deed, but your's are by far the most truthful, bwahahahahahahaha." Wiping a tear of mirth from his eye, he says "Did you bring my saw?"
I am in agreement in with the others. Good to go on the next module and finding a replacement. Looks like the Cult of Grimnir will be waiting a bit longer for Fernis, lol.

Sorry distracted by RL, I'll try to keep that down.

ZZ, I've very much enjoyed this campaign. I think you should continue it. I'd be happy to keep playing as well but as stated before, I cannot play any pre-made not already played by my table-top group, and if I've already played it, I need to underplay my character in order to be fair.
Please don't take the comments below as anything negative, I think you did well, and will get even better, these are just my personal views on a few points.
As to play: I think you should consider carefully how many session an adventure should take. I think the manor scenario could be played in one but far more likely two (As the first time out with WHFR3 it took my TT group 3 sessions but the first was mostly How does this work?- What I am I good at? If you offer few session renewals once per session abilities become rarely used and even more rarely choosen. Note that my only significant 1/session ability is favored by fate, a racial one. Just something to keep in mind.
Much the same with awarding fortune points, I see wanting great play and ideas to award such points but that's ahard standard, maybe a rate such that if we don't do badly (not well mind just not badly) we would get one refresh per adventure.
We did get one rally step for this adventure that's about right. Also it's difficult to judge the right amount of those, double so over a board.
Getting to specific matters in backgound I had Franx attending a small miliary academy, but you change it in references to the Imperial War Academy in your post of Oct. 27, 2012.
Uh yeah... Vern seems a bit underwhelmed by the priest's greeting, but alas, what can you ask for from a priest of Morr.We are nearly complete, just waiting for a distant relative of Lord Aschaffenberg, a graduate of the Imperial War Academy, a pistolier as far as I know.
I assumed you were going somewhere with that. I've tried looking up where and exactly what the Imperial War Academy is but my efforts have proved fruitless.
In my recruitment Q&A, I called the place of his training the Heavenfall Pistolkorp's academy, just making a name up to represent one of many small military colleges that dot the Empire, I thougt it would be near Altdorf.
In my post of Oct. 21, 2012, in the recruitment thread:
The elderly lord, still looking strong in his ceremonial armour, headmaster of the Heavenfall Pistolkorp's academy, looks sternly at the young cadet. He thunders, "Do you think you are worthy to be called a Pistolier of the Empire?" In a firm voice, Franz replies, "I do, my Lord Headmaster."
I'll proceed to answer Lord Rikard's question when I know your thoughts in this matter.
In regards to Zad's disapperance and replacement: the more the merrier is my thought. I do think that maybe I could play a priest in Zad's place, letting Franz go, he's something of a one-note character.
As to Edge of Night, I'm currently playing in that one with my TT GM, Given the slowness that PbP proceeds I'm not too concerned we will catch-up but again I'm familiar with some of it. Two, my GM said that it had great ideas nearly ruined by bad writing. His biggest complaint was that indeed it's something of a sandbox applied very inappropriately. In particular many events are happening and will happen even if the player are not involved, and no reason for the players to get involved is even hinted at. They would be likely to walk into the more important events unaware and unprepared, and die horribly. The writer appears to have expected the PCs to make investigations to people and places that they have no reason at all to suspect, and be good at it which most are not. Perhaps he's in error, but he thought it half baked and made a number of changes in order to give reasonably behaved (not rampaging paranoids) PCs a chance to find out something.
Sorry for the length, I could go for much longer but I suspect I've exhausted eveyones patience by this point.

All ooc:
Oh yeah, I didn't think about X/per session abilities. I'll try to remember that.
I'll give out fortune points for either overcoming formidable foes, having a very good solution for a problem or just nice rping. (actually I would have awarded one for Mareike becoming a dwarf-clan member if we hadn't filled them up anyway).
Same is true for rally steps, I think they should fit into the story - sometimes there are more opportunities, sometimes less.
Oh yes, the Imperial War Academy is a rather wonky translation of the term we use for the College of Engineers (who as far as I know also trains people in using black powder weapons) in Altdorf at our game table - sorry if that confused you.
Indeed I mixed that up and forgot where your character graduaded from - I had in mind it was Altdorf, my bad.
So, we will look for a replacement forZad, first campfire then recruitment.
I have already played edge of night once with my TT group and I have to say that it is rather mysterious and in the end pretty terrifying, but not chaotic. I mean, I'm a fan of realism and sometimes even fantasy-RPGs can turn into survival horror :)

Guess we'll see.
Spending,Experience 3, Advances spent 0, Advances unspent 3. (This is my understanding of how the experiance/advancement system works.)
Spend 1, Fixed Advance: Skill Leadership in career, Cost 1 Advance; Spend 1 Open Advance: Skill Riding in career, Cost 1 Advance; Spend 1 Fixed Advance: Talent: Tactics:I'll sleep when I'm dead, exhaust to recover 2 fatigue. Cost 1 Advance.
Experience 3, Advances spent 3, Advance unspent 3.
Background expansion: Heavenfall Pistolkorps Academy is one of a number of small military academies that have sprouted up since pistols became a bit more available. Because HPA is located much less than a day's ride from Altdorf, it has a relationship with the Imperial College of Engineers, which provides instruction in the use and maintenance of black powder weapons. It is reputable but not well-known, but its quality of training is second to none. Is this good for you ZZ?
Franz replies to Lord Rikard, "I trained at Heavenfall Pistolkorps Academy, my firearms instructors are from the Imperial College of Engineers in Altdorf, Mi'Lord."
Franz is striding off when Fernis makes an astounding offer. Franz stops dumbfounded and speechless. I never expected such an offer, it's so rare as to be legend. Franz goes on looking for any remaining cultists, trying to account for all of them that were listed.

Yes, the costs are correct, but I would recommend that the transition to Ironbreaker is not just done by spending advances. Since it is a very special career (with enormous power boost), I would ask you to roleplay the transition. So, gather your party, march to the nearest Karak and apply :)
Take a look at how Franz' spent his advances, I would like to see such three lines from everyone.
Story modifications look good, thx Franz.
Fernis Stoutanvil |
No problem there. I was trying to work out how exactly he would make this transition and slaying a minotaur will certainly help, haha.
Fernis Stoutanvil |
Made some adjustments to status bar to include party sheet and wound threshold. Advances Chosen are Specialization in Observation:Track, Action Card Improved Block, and Wound +1. All are in career advances.
Mareike |
I took +1 Wound , +1 Reckless and Cut and Run Action Card. All Career advances
Zyren Zemerys |
Recruitment I'm a bit in a hurry, maybe you could do some advertising in the recruitment thread :)
Franz Flechter |
Never GM'ed on these boards so wouldn't know, seems odd that if there is no connection why not have it possible later? Oh well, not a question you can answer, maybe I'll pose it to the webmaster.
I don't think a priest is neccessary, but can be very handy, otherwise any aid at all is good, maybe a great social character, a lot of talking in this one. Franz isn't that good at schmoozing. A trained charmer with a bit of guile could be really useful.
Fernis Stoutanvil |
As the others gather their wits and begin to take of the various sundry task before departing the manor, Fernis aids in piling the dead for burning. As he goes about this task he takes a piece from each in order to get his bounty on beastmen.
[ooc]How many crowns in bounty are there?

Thanks for copying my format, Rangnir, Unfortunately you also copied my mistake, That last line should read:
Experience 3, Advances spent 3, Advances unspent 0.Sorry for my error, I couldn't fix it by the time I noticed.
I even took note of that before I posted...Since I cannot edit my post anymore: ZZ - consider the last line to be Experience 3, Advances spent 2, Advances unspent 0.

None of the beastmen had any coins with him, but a thorough search of their belongings at least unearthes several lumps of amber! And since Lord Rikkard is not interested in keeping the spoils of war, you can keep everything for yourself.
Meanwhile Vern has brought a saw and the bodies have been piled up and set ablaze...the stink of burning flesh is thick in the air and the green grimace of Morrslieb becomes obscured by the rising smoke.
Ok, since everyone has levelled up, are there any changes to the party sheet? New talents?
Fernis Stoutanvil |
Fernis sets to task on the bulls head taking his horns and looking Vern says, "So. I believe we are needin' to settle up, manling. As it looks we took care of what we promised.", Fernis says with a warm voice that carries an edge of seriousness not to be mistaken.
Zyren Zemerys |
That you have Meister Dwarf...that you have. Vern says and gives the secene another disgusted look.
At next day's dawn light rain has set in again and even though the sky is lead-grey, the faint greenish silhouette of Morrslieb is still visible...
You meet again in the dining room, where Vern has prepared a spartan breakfast...
A shame that Karla has left us... Lord Rikkard mutters while he chews on a piece of hard bread.
Fernis Stoutanvil |
Did Karla get whacked while was not paying attention? I was pretty caught up in the post with the minotaur and the glory of Grimnir.
Fernis Stoutanvil |
Ahhhhhh, yeah. Got her mixed up with the Sister. I think that Mareike is on her way to starting her Sisters of Battle chapter. First in the Empire!
