Franz is the first to act and even though his shot misses (0 successes, 1 boon) Dr. Schreiber, the cultists don't dare to fight him - Schreiber, Geizhals and Granhof flee through the small door at the opposite side of the room into the kitchen...

Just as Fernis and the others reach the room, the chaos lovers are out of sight and only the sobbing Sonja, the toppled chairs and the scent of gunpowder indicate that something close to a fight has just happened here...

Rushing into the room, Mareike skids to a halt. "What happpened?" she asks


"Schreiber, Geizhals and Granhof attacked me as soon as I arrived, threatening the good sister. They fled at my hurried shot, damn, I just missed him. They went thataway."Franz points to the small door. "Bertoldt Granhof has an axe, the others daggers and little skill." He turns to the nun of Sigmar, "Are you hurt Sister Sonja? By Sigmar, I need you to call upon him for courage in the dark place and hour, we need to do much and have no time. The Lord of the manor is with the guard captain, and the houndmaster, if you can move with us, I'll try to get you there, but the beastmen are gathering and it may be no safer." Franz waves Marieke toward the Sister, "Bring her along, Marieke, we cannot leave her for these fiends but we must go after them!" Franz heads to the door but lets the armored dawi to lead the way in.

"That's the kitchen! They're either fleeing or trying to get down to their accursed shrine! Come sister, we must hurry!" Mareike says excitedly, escorting the nun along after the others. She then skids to a stop "If they're going to the shrine, they can escape through the library!"

Fernis, let's get to the library. We can get them cornered!


"Yes, we'll bar the trapdoor, then go to the library. Even running it should take them a few minutes to get there. Then we find the passage down to them and they'll be trapped. Let's go!" Franz heads to the trapdoor in the closet and finds something to block it shut with, then runs to the library. He just assumes the others will follow his noble and wise lead. Of course how wise is it ...?

When in the kitchen helping to bar the trapdoor ( probably by placing the kitchen table on top) , Mareike takes a quick look outside to see if any of the cultists escaped that way.

"Here's yer chance to set that fire, Flechter." Fernis then hastens his steps toward the library.

Once more solidly out of his element, Zadlu follows behind and does as ordered.


At Fernis's suggestion Franz grimaces and says, "Setting fire to a building we are in is a really bad idea, double so given will will need it to defend against the already gathering beastmen. I'll like to preserve the hope, at least, that some of us live to see tomorrow's dawn. I want to burn the cultists, not myself." Franz does what was said in the previous post, and wonders to himself. Is Fernis one of those crazy Troll-Slayers? Bold against vile enemies is good but cutting one's own throat is just dumb.

Rushing into the kitchen you realise that you have to adjust your plan a bit - the trapdoor to the cellar is open so it may well be that either Karla, Schreiber, Granhof or Geizhals went down there, but the backdoor of the kitchen leading into the courtyard, is also open and you see two figures running towards the gate.

Even though the evening twilight obscures most of their forms, one of them looks like the obese Geizhals...

In the kitchen you also find the crucial proof for your accusations, several small green vials lie next to the plates with venison. Obviously they have been prepared with the Schlaf poison.

Change of plans?

Zadlu at last sees a way that he might be useful "Chase them" pointing to the Geizhals fleeing "I will scream if any come from the trapdoor... but if they open the gates..." letting imagination fill the void where his words would not do justice to the Beastmen's depravity.

From the doorway, Mareike cries "Two of them are heading to the gate!"

Turning to Franz, "I'll get them! Close up that trapdoor!" she says, then sprints out of the kitchen into the courtyard.

Is the shrine along the way to the gate, if so, Marieke will run by and grab the hammer.


Franz quickly replies to the cranky dawi, "Without hope, humans tend fall to despair, giving the dark lords victory. I do not intend to let that happen."

As he takes in the scene, Franz starts reloading his pistol, "Go Mareike, but look at the doorway and them, so as to not get in the way of my line-of-fire. Zadluzeny, carefully close that trapdoor and put something heavy on top of it to seal it. If you would, check the library, Master Dwarves, and please kill only cultists, we need the others."

Franz lets Mareike leave, if there is time left, he'll fire on Geizhals. Depending on range he'll use either Ranged Shot or Extreme Shot.

Mareike, you need to pass an easy acrobatics check to reach them before they can open the gate, should you try to get to the hammer first, the difficulty is hard. Which option and do you want to use any fortune points?

As Franz' bullets whistles through the open door, Geizhals is stupid enough to hesitate and turn around - the bullet hits his shoulder and throws him around, but he remains on his feet and quickly runs on...

Zadlu moves to the trapdoor and strains to see and hear what he might of what lies within. Fearing to close the trapdoor unless it is needed... as the cultists might choose to bar it from within.

Like a whirlwind Mareike sprints after Geizhals and the other figure
(3 successes, 2 banes resulting in 1 fatigue) and as she has nearly reached them, Geizhals' companion whirls around and snarls at Mareike!

It's Granhof but he has ripped open his shirt and underneath redish scales cover his chest. His eyes seem ablaze and he heaves the heavy axe over his head, ready to strike!

Initiative looks like this (Mareike and Franz vs. Otto and Bertoldt) This is before Franz' next shot, just tell me whom of you wants to act first:

Franz will act first firing when Mareike is at close range to the bad guys, then they'll maneuver to engagement range with her, if we do it the other way around, Franz is likely to hit her. Geizhals will be the target.

Franz pulls the trigger and hits Geizhals with a well-aimed shot in the side. The cultist splutters greenish oily blood, but is still able to attack Mareike together with Granhof.

Geizhals is hit squarely in the back as he tries to lift the massive bar of the lock and collapses on the spot...

Indeed, as Mareike turns around, the blade of Granhof's axe flies towards her neck...but as if by magic, the blade misses her by an inch and with a screeching sound hits the gat tower next to her!

The trapdoor stands open, but there is no one on the ladder, after a moment of concentrated waiting, you can hear someone from down there chanting quietly.
