RHP 36 / HP 36

docks:
"Either the splintered wood in the water or the runoff from the blood of the townsfolk... I'd say the choice was well-made."

Male Kalashtar Psychic Warrior (Pathwalker)/1 HP: 30/30 RHP: 5/30 Power Points: 4/5

The Garrison:

"If it is all the same to the rest of you, I wish to celebrate first of all with a bath. And then possibly some bandages. Lady Kendra, do you have any recommendation as to where we should seek our lodging for the duration?"

The Garrison:
"You'll have a week's stay at the Rusty Dragon for free. For defending the towns shipment. You may bath there, or you are welcome at my house, and I can summon the doctor to look at you. But I insist on dinner. A late one, for sure. At nine...uh, bells?"

The Garrison:
Kendra bids her fairwell, and leaves. Vin does as well.

The Garrison ooc:
What do you three do? It is half past six. She has summoned you to her families estate at nine.

The Demon's dream:
For a split second, it's as if the sound of the fire roaring fire and the pounding rain cancel each other out as the two of you lock eyes. You inhale, and it is all panic and smoke.

The next instant, the floor under Watches-Shadow-Behind-You buckles up violently, flinging him into the beams overhead, before he crashes down again. The explosion is so loud you can't here it, or anything else but a high pitched ringing in your ears. Watches-Shadow-Behind-You lands on his stomach, as the floor cracks and splinters, tipping down into a gaping hole that opens to the deck below, flames and smoke pouring out of it. The heat is intense on the Halfling's feet as he slides backwards towards the pit of flame.

With a yell Satinder dives forward, grabbing the old man's wrist before he plummets into the abyss. Heaving, he pulls Watches-Shadow-Behind-You to his feet away from the hole.

The ship lists heavily to it's port side, causing the cargo slide and to crash into the side of the ship.

The Demon's dream ooc:
You could make a sprint for it to the central stair with a Reflex save, or try to squeeze through a port on the side of the ship (now a little above your heads) with an Escape artist check. Watches-Shadow-Behind-You takes 8 points of damage. You are both deafened.

Watches-Shadow-Behind-You:
Behind Satinder, in the midst of the raging fire, cloying smoke and crashing crates, you see Shadow, perched on top of an unassuming wooden box about the length of your forearm.

Crunch:
Explosion: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 5) = 8 damage to Watches-Shadow-Behind-You.

The docks:
A boom sounds from deep inside the Demon's dream. The Sheriff shields his eyes from the rain as you both jerk towards the sound. "What in the hell?"

Ponderously, the whole ship begins to tip, it's masts, sails and rigging swinging down to crash right where you stand!

Garrick ooc:
Reflex save, please.

RHP 36 / HP 36

docks ooc:
ref: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

The docks:
The main central mast snaps off it's base, and plummets towards you. You dodge out of the way as the first of the ropes and beams hit the dock, but dodge right into the path of the main mast. You hear the snapping of wood, and the whipping of ropes as the rigging collides with the dock. Just as the main mast is about to pulverize you, the Sheriff bellows in your ear, "Move, move!" With a shove, he propels you into the water. He jumps in right after you, as the mast crashes into the spot you were just occupying.

Garrick ooc:
Swim check, please. What do you do?

Crunch:
Sheriff Avertin's Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20.

Male Halfling Shaman 1

Can I reach the box Shadow is on?

Watches-Shadow-Behind-You:
Absolutely.

RHP 36 / HP 36

docks ooc:

swim: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

Garrick tries to climb out, either by way of available ropes or any nearby ladders back up to docks.

climb: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

Male Halfling Shaman 1

Demon's Dream:

Watches-Shadow-Behind-You hangs onto the collapsing floor. He was considering trying to make for the stairs until he says Shadow on the crate.

With a great deal of effort, his muscles straining in his wiry frame, he jumps for the crate. . .
What do I roll?

Watches-Shadow-Behind-You:
Nothing, you are able to get it. Describe it, and then in ooc tell me how you plan on escaping. :)

Male Kalashtar Psychic Warrior (Pathwalker)/1 HP: 30/30 RHP: 5/30 Power Points: 4/5

The Rusty Dragon:
Khravos will head over to the Rusty Dragon, and ask if the Lady Kendra had informed them of her offer. If so, I would like to get a room and have a healer/physicker/doctor sent up, and I would like a bath in the mean time, and to have my clothes boiled until the stench is gone. Burned if necessary.

Male Halfling Shaman 1

Demon's Dream:

Watches-Shadow-Behind-You lands on the crate. He quickly opens it, not knowing what he'll find.

I am hoping it is something that is useful in this situation.

Male Human

Demon's Dream:

Satinder gapes as Watches-Shadow-Behind-You launches himself onto the crate, away from the stairs.

"What, in the name of all the gods," he says, raising an arm to shield his eyes from the smoke and embers, "are you doing, you tiny madman?"

OOC:

Satinder is ready to dive back in for the Halfling if he appears to be in danger again, but he is also keeping an eye on the stairs out. Let me know if he needs to make any checks.

Watches-Shadow-Behind-You:
You grab the small box as Shadow disappears, and open in. Inside is a dark crystal, as thick as your wrist, about the length of your forearm. It is wrapped in seven bands of differing metals, each about two fingers wide, with equal spaces in between them. You dimly hear Satinder yelling something to you. He seems a long way from this moment.

The Rusty Dragon:
You get directions to the Rusty Dragon, slogging through the rain. Lightning flashes, illuminating a large creature on the roof of the inn. It startles you for a moment, until you realize it is a large, rusty dragon statue perched on the roof of the old inn. You step inside, the smells and warmth basking over you.

Crunch:
Khravos's Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13. And in case it is needed, Engineer #3's Perception: 1d20 - 6 ⇒ (16) - 6 = 10 and Daxur's Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

[oocc=The Rusty Dragon]Engineer walks into the warmed and pleasantly scented room. He hangs his sodden cloak on the provided hook and takes a seat at a corner table.

"I wonder what other tasks we may complete for the constabulary of this town. Perhaps they have further rewards for our fellowship."[/ooc]

Male Goblin Wizard 1 HP:17 /17 AC:16 F+4 R+6 W +5 Perception:+3

The Rusty Dragon:

Daxur looks up at the statue, then nods his approval.

He marches into the Inn, pausing at the entrance , taking in a deep breath, water dripping from his cloak into a puddle on the floor.

"Very nice, very nice , indeed!" he exclaims, stomach rumbling, then remembering Kendra's invitation.

"I'm sure you're right, #3" he murmurs to his friend before he hurries to keep up with the longer legged Khravos, hopping up on a nearby stool to address the innkeep as well, "A smaller sized bath for me as well. Well, actually if you had one in a different room. My pungent friend here, while excellent company, afflicts my olfactory senses too much to bear!" he says, patting Khravos on the arm, careful not to touch any part stained with goblin urine.

If there are any sideway's glances his way due to the fact he's a goblin , he does not care to notice.

The Rusty Dragon:
A young eastern woman approaches you. "Welcome to the Rusty Dragon," she says, seating you. She nods uncertainly at Daxur's quip about Khravos, but smiles. "I am the proprietor, Ameiko. And where are you fine gentlemen from?"

Male Kalashtar Psychic Warrior (Pathwalker)/1 HP: 30/30 RHP: 5/30 Power Points: 4/5

Where are we coming from again?

Khravos ooc:
You are travelling from Sharn, the largest city in Breland, and Khorvaire. But you are from the continent of Sarlona, the country of Adar.

Male Goblin Wizard 1 HP:17 /17 AC:16 F+4 R+6 W +5 Perception:+3

Rusty Dragon:

Daxur stands on his stool and executes a passable bow to Ameiko, "Charmed, my lady. I am Daxur and this is my metal friend, #3. The smelly one is Khravos, lately of...of...Where did you say you were from?" Daxur asks Khravos, then turns back to Ameiko, "As I was saying, #3 and I , were recently in Cauldron, but I've been tasked as the Arcane Liason for this fine city. " he says self-importantly, his small chest a little bit puffed out.

"Now about those baths?" he inquired politely.

Male Kalashtar Psychic Warrior (Pathwalker)/1 HP: 30/30 RHP: 5/30 Power Points: 4/5

Rusty Dragon:
"Indeed. We have just arrived on the road from Sharn, though I come from distant Adar originally." Khravos begins to remove his armor on the spot. "If you have a servant who can steam or scrub the reek from this armor, I could pay accordingly. We have an engagement for dinner, and although the rain has done much to remove the worst of the reek, I fear soap and scent are necessary to finish the job, and if that fails, fire."

Having traveled from Adar to here, would I have seen people of her ethnicity/ethnotype before?

Male Halfling Shaman 1

Demon's Dream:

Is there a knowledge check I can make to find what this thing is?
Does it look like casting Create Water on the fire would help?

Watches-Shadow-Behind-You ooc:
Not in your current dire circumstances, no. The ship is on fire, exploding and sinking. Grab and run. ;P And negative on the Create water spell helping. :/

Khravos ooc:
She looks like she could be from your continent, but her accent makes it much more likely she is originally from the Lhazaar Principalities, on the eastern side of Khorvaire. (continent maps on the campaign page.) :)

Male Halfling Shaman 1

Demon's Dream:

Watches-Shadow-Behind-You stows the strange object in his shirt. He makes for the stairs in a frenzied dash.
Use a Hero Point
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 3 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 3 + 8 = 20

The docks:
Garrick sputters to the surface, the Sheriff thrashing in the water next to him. With effort, they pull themselves out of the water onto the docs.

Male Human

Demon's Dream:

Satinder sighs in relief as Watches-Shadow-Behind-You finally darts towards the stairs and safety, and follows as best he can through the tumbling wreckage.
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
And spending a hero point to re-roll that
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

Satinder, Watches-Shadow-Behind-You and Garrick:
Scrambling across the deck of the collapsing ship, you hurdle over crates as they slide across the hold, duck as another explosion rocks the back of the boat, and keep you balance as the entire ship lists to the side.

You scramble on deck, and both of you run down the gangplank, leaping off it as it falls from beneath you to land on the docks. Garrick and the Sheriff are there, and seem to have just pulled themselves from the water. The demolished dock is covered in the wreckage of sails, masts, and broken crates.

All of you look back at the boat as a final explosion from deep within it shoots flames out the top hold, and the ship sinks into the waves, hissing and spurting like a dying animal. Several sailors who fled the exploding ship at the same time as you swim into the docks, pulling themselves up.

The rain pelts you as the ship seems to come to a rest on the ocean floor. The end of it still sticks out of the water, as well as several masts with rigging, all at an extreme angle.

RHP 36 / HP 36

docks:
Walking briskly up to the other two , Garrick asks, "Did you two find anything important in the ship before it went up in flames? And Also why did it go up in flames?"

Male Halfling Shaman 1

Docks:

"Things tend to have flames when they are on fire," Watches-Shadow-Behind-You says mater-of-factually. He dusts himself off.

Male Human

Docks:

Satinder gives Watches-Shadow-Behind-You a mildly disgusted look before turning to Garrick.
"That monster that got loose knocked over a stove on its way out, and I think it must have ignited the powder magazine. As for anything important--"

He pauses, glancing over his shoulder at the Halfling, then stepping up to Garrick and lowering his voice.

DM:
What I say to Garrick depends on whether or not I saw what Watches-Shadow-Behind-You grabbed from the box, or if he grabbed anything at all. Belated perception check? Belated Perception Check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Satinder:
You did see him grab something out of a box. It looked like a large crystal, which leads you to conclude a crystal of that size must be a Khyber dragonshard based on its color.

Male Human

Garrick Docks:

"I don't know exactly what sent that little madman scurrying on board, but he seemed to know the ship was on fire already, and he did take something from the hold before we escaped. I didn't get a good look, but I think it might be a Khyber crystal. I want to ask him about it, but I think we should until there are fewer eyes and ears about."

RHP 36 / HP 36

docks:
"Sounds good. Well, what have we made of this investigation so far, barring that piece? Monster present on board, reasons unknown. Fight breaks out, monster causes the boat to catch fire, we kill it. I still would like to know how the crane got broken letting the monster out in the first place."

Male Halfling Shaman 1

docks:

"I will help the injured for now," Watches-Shadow-Behind-You says to Satinder and Garrick, "But later we shall share a meal by a fire and talk of things known, unknown, and discovered."

The halfling turns to go find people needing his assistance in healing.

RHP 36 / HP 36

docks:
"Don't take too long, we need answers very soon and need to close this case."

Watches-Shadow-Behind-You ooc:
Around you currently in the pouring rain are Satinder and Garrick, and the Sheriff, as well as half a dozen guards. All citizens have fled long ago. Both of your friends and yourself might be injured. You have no idea where any of the citizens might have gone, and if any of them were injured. :)

Male Halfling Shaman 1

Docks:
After checking around and seeing nobody needing further aid, the shaman returned shaking his head.

"It seems everyone else has been helped or has fled," Watches-Shadow-Behind-You announces, "We should find a meal and a fire for our talk."

He looked around at the large rigid huts the Breland tribe builds, wondering which one might be the lodge house.

RHP 36 / HP 36

docks:
Looking to Satinder, Garrick said, "Well, we'd better get out of here soon if we aren't going to discuss it here."

Satinder and Garrick ooc:
Satinder and Garrick are expected tonight at nine bells (9 o'clock) for dinner at the Mayor's house. It makes sense to you, since conversation will undoubtedly be about the events of the day, that the Mayor will want to speak to Watches-Shadow-Behind-You, and get his version of events as well.

The dinner was with the Mayor, the local historian Aemon, and the elf woman Shalelu, who specializes in border security, due to the proximity with Droamm.

Male Human

OOC:
What-ish time is it now?

Satinder:
Half past six.

RHP 36 / HP 36

docks:
"And I'd like to get our details organized before the meal tonight. Shadows, they'd want us to bring you as well. But, I don't want to walk in all disorganized. Facts, together, now."

His comments start to sound more and more like someone expecting their orders followed, though one might think this tone wasn't on purpose.

Male Human

The Docks:

EDITED
Satinder glances around at the wreckage and sighs.

"Garrick is right. We'd best be on our way."

He turns to Watches-Shadow-Behind-You and says,

"Where in town are you taking your rooms, Master Halfling?

Watches-Shadow-Behind-You ooc:
You had made arrangements to stay with a woman named Denala at Western Breland Boarding. You've never met her, but heard she will take care of you.

The Rusty Dragon:
Ameiko smiles. "Savion." She calls to a servant behind the bar.

"Separate baths will be arranged. Can I get you anything to eat before, or would you like something after your baths?" The young man she called to approaches, and she turns to him. "Please take Master Khravos's armor and scrub it clean."
