Tenro's Submission:
Garrick ir'Kraal Garrick grew up in Karrlakton, in the shadow of the Deneith stronghold. Such an upbringing certainly ensures martial puissance, but he didn't feel at home because he believed that Deneith distanced itself from Karrnath when it should be thankful to the nation that facilitates its prosperity. Much of this line of thought came from his parents, both having served the crown. His mother, before she died, was a medical officer; his father a field commander in the Royal Army. Now retired, his father has aged to the point that he rarely makes it out of his modest estate, and is looked after by his servants. After his mother's passing, his father moved to the city that sprung up around the outside of the Rekkenmark academy, and occasionally gives speeches to graduating classes, when his age permits him to leave the home. Born in 968YK, Garrick came of age in 986YK. In 992, he graduated Rekkenmark academy and served as an officer in the army until the end of his commission a little more than a year after the Last War ended. He served along Karrnath's borders with Thrane and Aundair during the war and along the Karrnath-Talenta border after the war. He left the service to explore the continent, the constant reminders of past conflict in Karrnath were too depressing so soon after the war. Uninterested in living amongst his more bitter enemies, he traveled to Breland and sought the life of a paid adventurer, in the hopes that the goal he was paid for would be less poisoned by politics... Regarding the sources you tend to draw from, I would say:
What country were you born in? Do you currently call Breland your home? Do you think Breland is a 'good' government? (Do you trust it, love it, proud to live here, etc.)
What does your character lie about? Their weight? That they passed a test for some organization, when the truth is they never took it? That they love their siblings, who are truly awful?
What is your defining strength? Your ability to forgive? Your hammer? Your intelligence? Your ability to talk your way into and out of everything?
What is your motto? "You cannot fix what you cannot face," "Work hard, stay humble," "If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together."
What is your most treasured possession? Your sisters last letter to you, a pocket portrait of your dead lover, your lucky set of dice.
If you had to list a class (yes it can change) what is your starting class and race for your character?
Do you plan on multi-classing? Prestige classes?
What're you drinking for New Years? And what's your character drinking?
Who are your characters heroes? Did they love the stories their mum read them as a kid of Matthias the blackhanded, who was redeemed from his wicked ways when he sacrificed himself to save the city of Tellmoradon? Or was Tira Yronforged, the champion of battle of the rails, your favorite hero to read about in the news prints during the Last War?
What kind of clothing do you wear? And what kind of clothing do you wear when you have to dress up?
What is your personal greatest failure? What is your personal greatest success?
And lastly, What is the sin that your character is the most susceptible to?
Garrick ir'Kraal NPCs: Grenthis, former soldier under Garrick's command. He blames Garrick for all that happened at Shadukar and is looking to make him pay. He wouldn't attack Garrick while Garrick still held active duty rank, but if he heard that Garrick was no longer active, he might try to pursue him and make him pay. Jayik, local militia commander. He takes care of those that work in the Sandpoint militia full-time, handling their day-to-day administrative needs and liaising with the Mayor and Garrick to ensure that the militia gets what it needs and protects Sandpoint adequately. Goergo, Sandpoint quartermaster. A man of many talents, he repairs and creates armor and weapons, and with the help of his assistant manages orders made by the militia. Though he and his staff are well-equipped with a fairly large forge and warehouse, occasionally he has had to subcontract orders out to other, smaller smithies. Garrick ir'Kraal alternate PCs: Janos d'Lyrandar, half-elf dragonmarked artificer and bearer of the Mark of Storm. He isn't yet a captain, but aspires to be such. So far, he has served on an elemental galleon as a third officer and then as a second officer, then he moved to be a third officer on an airship. The house moves him as they need him, but he is definitely favored in house so they moved him from one ship to another to make him a more well-rounded officer, and promotions are coming up. Vardis (B-Z #18), a warrior who served in the war as a frontline soldier. After a rough battle where he distinguished himself by pulling all but one man of his squad from certain death, he was selected for a special program run by the office of B-Z (Breland-Zilargo) relations. These individuals, after given special surgery requiring elemental parts, were used in special operations as directed by the crown. Further distinguishing himself in this service, when the war ended he was set to an "active reserve" status, meaning that he was free to do as he wished and given a meager stipend to assist with living costs, but was to be recalled if conflict arose again. From time to time in the past few years, though war has not arisen again, he has been asked to come back unofficially for projects. He obliges, and as these are outside of his standard contract he is rewarded for them, typically with more implants, which help him make his money as an adventurer when he has to live off of his stipend. - Write a memory
Nonetheless, as Garrick's men wordlessly slaughtered the guards and infiltrated the compound, starting fires in the ammunition stores, Garrick's thoughts were consumed with the women and children. Their lives were forfeit. He could not let them live without disobeying orders. The fires set and egress points blockaded according to the plan, the screams from within the keep will forever punctuate Garrick's nightmares. The fighting men within the keep managed to get the main gate open after the fire consumed parts of the blockade, and the Aundairians within spilled out in a river of burning flesh, hoping to quench the flames that consumed their clothes and skin. Though Garrick hoped to die as the last defenders rushed his position, he was unable to stop fighting. He and his men killed every man, woman, and child so that no word of the attack would get out that Kaius himself did not approve of. - Link a picture of your character on your sheet.
