The docks ooc:
Alright, guys. I did a bit of a cut-scene, as it were, to set this up. You are all on the deck of the ship, and the Rhagodessa is on the dock. Your turn! Garrick you have dropped your short sword.

Male Goblin Wizard 1 HP:17 /17 AC:16 F+4 R+6 W +5 Perception:+3

pony show:

Daxur nods sagely at Ven's suggestion, "Indeed, my first act upon taking up my position will be to advise both of what happened here. Oh, by the way, the three-armed miscreant took something from your pocket before withdrawing."

The wagon:
Ven pats himself down. "Something from my - no. I'm not missing anything."

Crunch:
Ven's bluff: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17 vs. Daxur's Sense motive: 1d20 ⇒ 11, Khravos's Sense motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18, Engineer #3's Sense motive: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (12) - 4 = 8.

Khravos:
Ven seems to hesitate just a hair too long before saying he is missing nothing.

Male Kalashtar Psychic Warrior (Pathwalker)/1 HP: 30/30 RHP: 5/30 Power Points: 4/5

Pony Pals:

Confused, Khravos looks from Ven to Daxur and back again. "I apologize, Master Ven, if you've forgotten, but you had a key in your pocket. The disfigured goblin said that "she" gave him orders not to kill, but he seemed quite sure where to find it. I understand the need for secrecy on some matters, but it might benefit you to confide in those of us who shared this experience with you."

RHP 36 / HP 36

docks:

Garrick charges the beast, looking to cleave its head in twain with an overhead chop. He is singularly focused on ending the demon-spider.

crunch:

acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 to avoid AoO, not sure of its reach
charge, raging, furious focus, cornugon smash: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (4, 5) + 9 = 18
intimidate to demoralize: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

crit confirm?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
extra crit damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (6, 2) + 9 = 17

The wagon:
Ven keeps walking doggedly. "She? She who? One of the female goblins?" The sun is getting long, and the scar is getting darker from clouds gathering overhead.

The docks:
Garrick draws his greatsword, as the rain cranks up to just under a deluge.

He sprints off the ship, launching himself into the air halfway down the gangplank. He brings the sword down hard, cutting deep into the back of the creatures head as he lands next to it in the dock. It screeches horribly, as it bleeds a weird dark blood.

Around him, dozens of people panic, running in all directions, screaming. Some even jump off the docks into the bay.

Crunch:
Rhagodessa's Defense: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16, Garrick hits and criticals.

Garrick causes the rhagodessa to become shaken for two rounds.

Friendship, magic, pony:
"I cannot provide any further details regarding a female goblin, unfortunately. I would recommend we make all appropriate haste towards shelter, however. The weather appears likely to turn unpleasant soon."

Engineer lenghtens his stride a bit, heavy footfalls sinking into the roadway slightly.

Male Human

Docks:

On his turn, Satinder intends to make a Perception Check plus Inspiration: 1d20 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 5 + (6) = 14 plus a Hero Point after the roll for an additional +4, 18 total to see if there's anything in the environment that could help kill, stop, or trap the beast. Maybe he can drop another crane-load of crates on its head. If not, he will aid Garrick in fighting, moving to provide flanking if possible, using Combat Expertise, and Attacking with Aid Another: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 to make sure that Garrick gets another solid hit in. And the Random Number Gods appear to be upset with me. If a Reaction is called for, Satinder will favor using Sunder in an attempt to negate or hinder the monster's natural attacks.

Satinder:
You spot another palate over the dock, from a jib on board the Demon's dream. You could move it over the beast and release the palate, crushing it. To do so, Garrick and someone else will need to "corner" it against the water side of the dock the Rhagodessa is on, so that it cannot flee.

Male Human

Docks:

"Garrick!" Satinder screams, waving his arms frantically at the ex-soldier to get his attention. "I've got a plan! See if you can push it closer to the water!"

He points to a spot at the edge of the rain-slicked dock, then runs across the deck of the Demon's Dream toward the jib controls. He climbs into the control seat, praying that he remember how each lever works.

Crunch:

Satinder will attempt a Knowledge(Engineering) Check plus Inspiration: 1d20 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 8 + (2) = 15 to see if he can figure out how to work the jib controls.

Male Halfling Shaman 1

Docks:
"Rhagodessa! A fast hunter that will eat everything in it's path!" Watches-Shadow-Behind-You shouts as he recovers. "It must be stopped!"

He takes out his sling and loads it. He tries to recall everything he knows about Rhagodessa. Does it have any weaknesses?

Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Am I supposed to roll initiative now?

Watches-Shadow-Behind-You:
No need for Initiative. I roll it for you guys, average it, and you all go at once, so that you don't have to "wait" for your turn. You three post, then I do the monsters, then its you three again. It is one of the big things that has sped up this pbp...combat has moved quickly, rather than bogging.

The Rhagodessa is fairly easy to hit, as they are not natural combatants, but they have a vice like grip, and a poisonous bite. Close combat with them is foolish. And they can climb and run, and feel the vibrations of movement, but lack those options in water.

You see what Satinder is pointing out to Garrick...if you ran down the dock, you could help herd the Rhagodessa to where Satinder wants it.

Satinder:
You remember how to work it, no problem.

Male Halfling Shaman 1

Docks:
Watches-Shadow-Behind-You runs down to the dock to help herd the creature.

The docks:
Watches-Shadow-Behind-You splashes down the gangplank and joins Garrick herding the Rhagodessa to the edge of the dock.

A Watchmen runs up to help the two of them, yelling over the rain, "I've got this!" He lunges out with the spear, but the creature smacks it aside, and grabs the Watchmen with its front legs, pulling him towards its open mandibles. "Ahh!" he screams, dropping his spear.

With a snap, Satinder releases the catch on the jib overhead, sending the pallet plummeting onto the Rhagodessa. It slams into it with another resounding boom, slamming it into the dock, which splinters and breaks apart again. Both the Pallet and the Rhagodessa, as well as the Watchmen still clutched in the Rhagodessa's pedipalp, disappear into the churning water.

A rope, tangled up with the creature as it goes down, snakes into the water. Suddenly it snaps and tightens around Garrick's ankle, yanking him off his feet onto the wet dock, and dragging him to the edge. Just before he is pulled under, his foot twists, and the rope slips off.

The docks ooc:
Garrick and Watches-Shadow-Behind-You are on the dock currently. The Rhagodessa, as well as the Watchmen, are submerged in the bay. Satinder is still on the jib on the Demon's dream. What do you do? It is now the player's turn!

Crunch:
The Rhagodessa attacks Garrick: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 vs. Garrick's Sunder CMD: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15, missing, and attacks the Watchmen: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16 vs. Watchmen's CMD of 14.

The pallet does: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4 damage to the Rhagodessa vs. DR 2/NA, for 2 damage.

1-50 Garrick, 51-100 Watches-Shadow-Behind-You: 1d100 ⇒ 43.

Garrick Reflex save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 vs. DC 12.

RHP 36 / HP 36

docks:
"If you want to help, get out of the way and keep civilians out of this!" Garrick yells to the watchmen.

ooc:
do i see the rope still attached to something other than the ragodessa? i am not about to dive in after it and i wanted to know if it was still hooked.

Garrick:
The rope is not attached to anything but the Rhagodessa, but the Watchmen is under water. He was still alive when he went under.

RHP 36 / HP 36

ooc:
then Garrick will sheathe his sword, grab the rope if he can, then try to move it around a pole or something (so as to double the utility of his strength in restraining the beast with the rope)

Male Human

Docks OOC:
@Garrick Sorry, just trying to get this in my head: you're taking the rope and tying it around a pole, because you hope that the Rag-spider is tangled up in the rest of the rope and you're going to try to drag it back up?

@DM How many guys are in the water? You only had one talking earlier, but you keep saying watchmen, not watchman, so was there a whole group that got dunked? Also, I kinda get the feeling that you want us to be concerned about him, but honestly as an audience member I've already written him off as a loss. Getting dragged into the water practically in the jaws of the monster does not give that guy good enough odds for me to want to attempt a rescue.

Docks Action:
Satinder lets out a whooping cheer at the success of the dropped-crate tactic, but his eyes go wide as he watches the guardsman dragged under with it. Cursing, he climbs out of the control seat and heads for the docks, keeping an eye on the water for signs of the creature resurfacing.

RHP 36 / HP 36

docks ooc:
Garrick is in a rage, this is the first time his blood is really pumping in awhile. A decisive victory over the beast with evidence will help his case when the man in black slanders him. Plus we are just gonna let this monster run loose to possibly return another day?

Male Human

Docks OOC:
I'm pretty sure that if anyone takes heat over this incident, it'll be me. I just dropped a second load of Lord Kaijitu's cargo, and this load went into the water :( But I wasn't questioning whether or not you should do it, I was just making sure that's what you were actually doing. Your intention wasn't clear from the post.

The docks:
Watchman. One guy. He was still alive when he went under, yes. And you specifically aren't supposed to care about him. This is a moral dilemma: do you place your person at risk to save an unknown? You absolutely don't have to. Not doing so does not make you evil. But it is a conflict. :)

Khravos, Engineer #3 and Daxur:
You enter Sandpoint under a deluge of heavy rain. Crossing the northern bridge, Ven leading you quickly up the hill. It is cold, dark, and miserable, though the sun hasn't technically set yet; it is still evening, not night. Most people are inside, you assume, as the streets are pretty empty. A flash of lightning booms overhead, silhouetting the great cathedral, high on the hill above town.

You pass the tannery and the smithy on Festival street, before turning and hiking up the steep High street, to take a left at the armory on Tower street. The two dominant buildings of the Town hall and the Garrison loom up in the darkness.

"The Sheriff," Ven bellows, pointing at the Garrison, before stomping through the mud towards the building.

You enter in the front to a small entry room. A desk with a few books and a couple of chairs sits there, unused at the moment. The building is made of large cut stone, very strong and heavy.

Water squelches from your feet as you enter. "Sheriff!" Ven calls.

A member of the City Watch, his hair dripping wet, pokes his head around the corner. He addresses someone out of sight. "Sheriff, its Master Vinder." He sounds as if he's run a distance recently.

A surly looking man in his fifties stomps around the corner. He is wet, but not as soaking as your party. He has gone to seed, his armor just a tad too tight, his hair gone, his short bear stark white. His beady eyes lock on the group of you, and he scowls.

"I don't have time right now, Master Vinder. Whatever it is, it can wait until tomorrow." He turns away, pulling on gloves, and donning an oiled cloak, and addresses the Watchman. "Find out where everyone is, and send someone to bring in six extra men. Its going to be a long night."

Daxur, Engineer #3 and Khravos ooc:
Master Vindor appears stumped for a moment, just standing there, his jaw open, water dripping from his nose.

With the Wet Sheriff:
Engineer sheds water from his sopping green travel cloak, heedless of the flooring. Oblivious to most human emotion and subtlety, he nonetheless understands the movements of a person under stress. He almost goes into combat mode, before relaxing slightly.

"Sheriff? I am designated as Engineer #3. These are my traveling compatriots and battle comrades, Wizard Daxur and Soldier-of-the-Mind Khravos." Engineer indicates his friends with wide stretched hands.

"Perhaps we can be of assistance? We are fully combat capable, and Citizen Ven can attest to our effectiveness. If the task requires magical or psionic attention, we are able to serve such needs as well."

The Garrison:
The Sheriff turns, and eyes the sodden group. The watchman hands him his sword, and he straps it on, letting the silence draw out.

"Wizard Daxur? And...Soldier-of-the-mind Kratos? You'd be the magical security liaison, wouldn't you?"

Dripping wet, but inside by the fire now:
"Yes, Wizard Daxur is quite the magical resource. I have no such skills, but can leverage other similar energies to your benefit. Soldier-of-the-Mind Khravos is quite a potent warrior, utilizing physical skills as well as mental prowess. How may we be of assistance, Sheriff?"

Male Goblin Wizard 1 HP:17 /17 AC:16 F+4 R+6 W +5 Perception:+3

Dripping Wet:

Daxur sweeps off his sodden cloak with a flourish, spraying most if not all of the others in the room with droplets of water

"Indeed. I have come to fulfil my obligations as the Magical Security Liason for Sandpoint and Environs! As my metal friend has already asked, how can we assist?"

The Garrison:
The Sheriff stares down at you and sighs deeply.

Just as he seems about to speak, the door of the Garrison bangs open, and a woman stumbles inside.

"The Dark Six take this sodding weather!" The woman says, flinging water from her fingertips. She looks up at you as she is brushing water off her knees, and almost falls over, slipping on the wet floor.

"You must be Master Daxur!" she says, regaining her footing and coming forward, a big smile on her face. She is quite pretty, perhaps thirty years old, with short brown hair matted to her head from the rain. Her smile is quite disarming. She shakes your hands. "I'm Kendra Deverin, the Mayor's niece. I act as liaison to the people of Sandpoint."

The Sheriff approaches, his boots echoing against the stone. "That is not an official title, Kendra, you've been told that."

Kendra smiles and waves away his comment. "I don't need my job to be official. I do it because I want to help."

"I will leave you to deal with these, then." The rain blows in the front door as he leaves, leaving you with Kendra.

The docks:
As Satinder joins the other two down on the dock, Garrick ties the rope up, keeping it from being dragged into the water.

The rain is coming down in sheets now, and there are only a few people left in the vicinity, the rest seemingly fled the rain and the creature.

Bubbles still rise from where the Rhagodessa and the Watchman went into the water with the rest of the pallet.

Watches-Shadow-Behind-You:
The Rhagodessa and the screaming Watchman disappear into the water as the rain churns the surface. But your gut tells you that there is something wrong. You are missing something.

Looking back at the Demon's dream you see Shadow, perched over the deck. With a bob of its head, it dives back into the ship.

The docks ooc:
What do you guys do?

Crunch:
Garrick's Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10, Watches-Shadow-Behind-You's Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26, Satinder's Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14.

docks:

Garrick directs and watchmen around, instructing them to continue keeping the civilians back until he gives further orders.

The Garrison:

Daxur grins his tooth smile at Kendra, "Ah, indeed Miss Kendra, I am Daxur, Wizard extraordinaire! At your service..." he declares, sweeping down into an elaborate courtly bow to the pretty woman.

He gladly returns her hand shake, then shaking a bit of remaining rain from his head, "What's the trouble with the Sheriff? We had a run in with some of my more vicious cousins on the way..."

Male Halfling Shaman 1

Docks:

Watches-Shadow-Behind-You runs back into the Demon's Dream. He thinks he may have missed something.

The Garrison:
"Oh, old Avertin's just grumpy from the rain." She chuckles, looking down at her sodden clothes. She laughs as she looks over Engineer #3, and punches him in the shoulder. "Ha! I'll never get over it. Can you feel that?"

The Garrison:
"My external surface holds a great many sensory devices. The sensation is analagous to tactile sensations experienced by most other living organisms. The delivery method of the information is different, but the final presentation remains ultimately similar."

Engineer looks down on the small human woman striking his pauldron.

"I would advise you to use caution in such dealings. Firstly, you may have injured your hands on my plating. Secondly, other warforged might take offense to your unasked for physical contact."

The Garrison:
"I like you," she says, looking up into Engineer #3's face for a long moment. She smiles and nods, then looks at Khravos. "And what should I call you two?"

Male Kalashtar Psychic Warrior (Pathwalker)/1 HP: 30/30 RHP: 5/30 Power Points: 4/5

Garrison:

"My name is Khravos Vortensis, Miss Kendra, but you may call me Khravos." Looking to Daxur and #3, as an aside, "Should we not make sure that the actress arrived safely in town?"

Male Goblin Wizard 1 HP:17 /17 AC:16 F+4 R+6 W +5 Perception:+3

The Garrison:

Daxur snaps his fingers in irritation at Khravos' reminder, "That blasted woman! " he all but shrieks, then remembers Kendra. "A thousand pardons, Miss Kendra, the actress Allishanda was one of our charges on the journey here. She ran towards Sandpoint when the goblins attacked. I must ask the Sheriff if he knows anything of her arrival."

The Garrison:
Kendra looks at you, nonplussed. "Allishanda? What actress? Goblins attacked?"

Garrison:
"Yes, we were attacked by a group of goblins on the roadway. The merchant Citizen Ven lost his material goods when the creatures carried fire atop the combustibles. We defeated the remainder, including several mutated goblins. The actress Citizen Allishanda retreated towards the city on foot to remove herself from the combat scene. Due to the rain and roadway conditions, we proved unable to track her movements, and assumed she proceeded towards Sandpoint and the relative safety offered here."

Engineer delivers the facts in his deep baritone, almost monotonously. He does not seem overly concerned that the unarmed non-combatant female is apparently unaccounted for at this time.

The Garrison:
"I see," she says, looking around. She calls into the back of the building. "Goergo? Jayik? Who's here?"

Ven steps forward nervously, his hat in his hands. "Pardon, m'lady, but I imagine she went to Mr. Drokkus."

"Yes...that makes sense. Thank you, Master Vinder." Another Watchmen steps out from the rear of the building, and she turns to him. "Goergo, yes, perfect. Could you send someone to the theater to find a woman? Allishanda, the actress."

Another Watchman steps around the corner. He's young, probably just come of age, and lanky. "I'll send my assistant, m'lady, young Meechum, here." The lanky boy nods his head.

"We want to verify she made it into town safely. Check at the theater, and if necessary with Garridan at the White Deer, Ameiko at the Rusty Dragon, and even Jargi at the Hagfish." The boy nods, and moves to leave. "One last thing, if you cannot find her quickly, please notify the Sheriff. Do you know where he just left to?"

Goergo speaks up, nodding to Meechum, who ducks his head and leaves. "Apparently there was an accident at the docks, involving Garrick and that one high-minded one back from Sharn..."

The corners of Kendra's lips curl up in a small smile. "Master Hawkes, yes. Thank you, Goergo."

"Now," she says as Goergo departs, "Master Daxur. Master Khravos? Master Engineer number three...?" She stops, and looks up at the tall warforged again. "I'm sorry, how do you like to be called?"

"My designation is Engineer #3. Some of my associates have come to call me by the number appellation alone, shortening my designation to Three. I have no distint preference, and will leave the choice to you."

Engineer bows to the young woman in polite greeting.

"As far as the prefix, I have not achieved the rank of Master in any given profession. My skills still have many deficiencies to have attained that title. I appreciate your politeness, in appending it to me, however."

The Garrison:
Kendra chuckles. "Very well, Master Three. What can you each tell me of this goblin attack? Please," she says, gesturing to a waiting area with chairs to the right of the entrance. "Sit. Tell me."

Garrison:
Engineer looks at the professed chair, evaluating if it could withstand his sizeable mass without failure. If not, he conjures a simple oak post, round and solid, from ectoplasm upon which to sit.

"I was unable to glean the true numbers of the goblins, but there were more than a score. Perhaps 30, perhaps a few more or less. Their leader seemed larger than the others, and spoke in a loud voice. He commanded us to relinquish the wagon where Citizen Ven kept his goods. Faced with such insurmountable odds, we had no choice but to retreat."

Engineer pauses as if to allow his. Ompatriots to chime in before continuing.

"The goblins took the wagon while holding live flames openly. That did not end well, as the cargo included a sizeable amount of fireworks. The remaining goblins who survived the blast scavenged what they could before fleeing. A few chose to engage us in direct combat, much to their disappointment, I would hazard."

ooc:
ho hum.

Male Human

Docks:
Satinder turns to gape as Watches-Shadows-Behind-You runs back towards the ship for no apparent reason.
"What are you doing?" he shouts over the building storm. He glances back to where Garrick and the guardsmen appear to have the dock secure, then mutters a curse under his breath and chases after the elderly halfling.

Garrick:
The rain lashes against your face as another Watchman joins you. The rope becomes taught, pulling against the wooden pier you lashed it around.

"Where's Witton?" the newcomer bellows at the Watchman who was already with you.

"In the bay! He got drug under!" the second wails back. He looks to be near a panic, his eyes wide.

Garrick ooc:
What do you do? There are two Watchmen on the dock with you, although no civilians are close. The third, this Witton, is still underwater, as is the Rhagodessa. Watches-Shadow-Behind-You and Satiner have run to the Demon's dream again.

Watches-Shadow-Behind-You and Satinder:
Watches-Shadow-Behind-You and Satinder lumber back up the gangplank of the Demon's dream, the rain slapping them in the face, sodden down with the weight of their clothes. No sailors can be seen in the deep blue of the stormy evening.

ooc:
What do you two do? Nothing seems out of the ordinary here.

Docks:
Satinder stumbles up onto the deck next to Watches-Shadows-Behind-You, blinking around and wiping the rain from his face.

"What do you think you're doing, running away like that? There's a monster on the loose! We need to get back!"

Crunch:
Perception:: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 as Satinder continues to keep a wary eye out for the spider-thing.

I know its name, I just don't want to deal with spelling it.

The Demon's dream:
Satinder follows the diminutive man into the hold. The two of them move slowly down the aisle, bits of debris from the damage done by the Rhagodessa spread about.

Satinder:
You feel your belly button get tugged a bit, similar to the feeling when you walk into a room you've never been in before.

Watches-Shadow-Behind-You:
You smell smoke mixed with rain. You do not see Shadow.
