Thanks for the heads up Vharg. Things happen and it's all good. Really my concern was just for the start of the campaign, I was worried I had lost people due to the delayed start. With everyone committed now, there's a bit more leeway with absences. Of course advance notice is best but stuff happens.

A general game play note.
I am perfectly fine with people reading spoilers I post for other players in the game, I even encourage it for the most part. We're telling a story together and I want people to be entertained. If I truly need something to be private, I will send a PM so feel free to read whatever spoilers I post. That being said, spoilers still indicate something that only a character is receiving so do not post or respond based on a spoiler that your character would not know or be privy to.

As for the pace of the current scene, I was using the time we were left alone in the room for the current conversations before reacting to the reading of the will and dealing with the chest.
DM Jonasty |
Oh I figured that was the case and let me state, there's no rush. I've seen it happen in games where people all expect something to happen or the DM to ask what you do and then everyone just kind of sits and waits for someone else to do something. "Oh the DM will update this when it's time to move on."
Basically I jumped the gun cause I really want to make sure everyone is active and interested in the game. The posting hasn't been as fast as my S&S game and I think I'm just a little nervous of people losing interest lol.
Cassandra Blackmoore |
Same here. Weekends are family time and Monday nights are my RL game, so I'm sporadic at best during those times.
DM Jonasty |
Just a heads up, with Franco gone I've decided to replace him. I'm pulling in one of my S&S players who'll be bringing a rogue. He's solid, posts often and knows the game. You'll see him pop up on here soon enough but I'm not stopping the game to wait for him or anything. So just keep an eye out for a new face.
Randu |
Nice to meet you guys. I was told to just drop in anytime with Randu so there you go. Hope folks don't mind the old "polite cough to let you know I'm here" routine. Seemed like a classic, and hopefully no one has an itchy trigger/spell finger ;)
Cassandra Blackmoore |
I'm sorry guys. I've been limping around all last week hoping my work situation would improve this week, but it hasn't. The consultant on a project we're working on gave his two week notice last Friday, then decided he wasn't coming in at all. I've spent all last week busier than a one armed paperhanger and about as effective. I was supposed to get some help this week as my boss pulled someone off another project to help out, but that hasn't happened yet.
So to make a long story short I'm going to have to drop out of the game as I just don't have the time to post when I'm at work (where I do about 80% of my posting). The project is scheduled to go live the week of the 15th so I'll be free after that if there is still room to rejoin, otherwise I hope everyone enjoys themselves and look forward to gaming with you in the future.
DM Jonasty |
Thanks for the heads up Cassandra. I too do most of my posting at work and can understand the strain that creates. And of course work must come first. Good luck with everything!
Everyone else. I'm going to try to replace Cassandra quickly and will not be pausing the game to do so. I'll probably be bringing in another S&S player from my other game if they're interested. Too many more of you drop out and it's gonna be a weird double game going on lol.

Please, elders! You must believe me! The spirits of the dead have spoken to me! They whisper of terrible things descending upon our village! Shadows, demons, wolves! I cannot tell! Call out the militia and prepare all who can fight! I beg you!
“What say you, Huntmaster?” the wizened Halfling asked.
“My scouts and I have seen nothing. Portents and dreams are good and well. The whispers of the dead are less so. Fetch a healer for this one, I say. The village is safe.”
“Elders?” the chief asked in turn.
“Double the lookouts, and keep the Sheriff and his men on watch and watch, for the next week,” one elder replied. There was an audible groan from the Sheriff’s deputies at this pronouncement. More than one sent angry looks towards Ilya.
Thank you, elders!
18 Abadius, 4708
I tell you they are coming! A great horde from the north!
“Belkzen has been quiescent for years,” the elder replied. “Why now?”
Who can know the mind of the orcs? But, we must prepare!
“Ilya, you’re mistaken. We would have had word from the towns to the north. By all accounts, they are fine.”
Then dispatch messengers! But, do it quickly, lest all the lands burn under the onslaught!
“Very well,” the elder sighed. “It shall be done.”
6 Rova, 4710
“I’ll be damned if I follow another of this fool’s predictions of destruction!” the Sheriff shouted. “How many times will you fall for his cry of ‘shadows and wolves, orcs and flame’ before you see the truth!”
“Ilya, we’ve been through this before…” the elder said wearily.
I know, elder. But, the visions get clearer each time. Before, it was merely shadows. Now, I can see the Horde descending from the north, as the worgs of the woodlands cut us off to the south. I did not fully understand my vision, at first. There is a path to the west. I believe the spirits wish us to take that path. We must flee soon.
“This is nonsense!” the Sherriff cried. “It is harvest season!”
“Ilya,” the elder shook his head, “you have powerful abilities. No one denies that. But, these visions of yours are just nightmares, nothing more. Go home. Go home and tend to your harvests and your families.”
22 Kuthona, 4710
Elder! The time is now! It must be now!
“Ilya, I’m glad you’re here. I want you to meet a friend of mine.”
Elder, there’s no time! They are coming! We must flee! We must!
“Flee? Ilya, still? I thought you’d moved past this.”
Please! You must believe me!
“Enough, Ilya! Never again, do you understand! Now, this,” the elder gestured to an elderly human man, “is my colleague, Professor Lorrimar. He’s here to talk to you about these “spirits” that plague you.”
23 Kuthona, 4710
“How did you know they were coming?” Lorrimar panted. He and Ilya had been running for miles. It was a path Ilya had never walked, yet he knew by heart. Behind them, the village was burning.
I’ve always known…
DM Jonasty |
Welcome aboard Ilya! Thanks for joining our merry little crew. Yeah get caught up when you can and hop in whenever. At this point to makes things easier, just assume you're hopping in where Cassandra was. There weren't any posts by her that were specific enough to cause problems doing this and it just saves me trouble.
As far as the game thread, with where we're currently at feel free to jump in with either group or go off on your own in the village. Either way is fine and I'll post based on that.
Mortimer Valdebridge |
I may be slightly less active in the next few days, performing in a show this weekend, and we've got matinees and evening performances. Probably won't make much difference, but just in case. :)

I looked at Perrah's sheet. RP wise, seems like a solid back story. Mechanically, I have some concerns though. Aside from the fact that Transmutation is a weak school, and Foresight or Teleportation subschools would have been superior, I see two other mistakes. The first is that Perrah used the +1 to ability score on his Con to bring it to a 10, when he should have put it on his Dex, saving himself 3 points. And the 2nd is no points placed into Perception (I know its not a class skill, but thats what traits are for). I think the crunch could be refined a bit.
Take a look at my foresight wizard to get what I am talking about. Battle Field Controller, with a +15 Init (+14 at first level), able to always act during suprise rounds, +12 Perception, loaded to the gills with knowledge skills, and his stats arn't gimped. Elsir Thran
I'm not trying to be rude, and I am sorry if it comes across that way. Calavas had a great set up with his snapdragon fireworks build. In fact everyone in the party is very well built. I would just like to see some refinements to Perrah crunch.
DM Jonasty |
Well ultimately it's on Perrah as to if he would like to adjust his crunch or not. If he wants to makes changes, I'm fine with that. If he doesn't, I'm also fine with that as well.
I'm not a big fan of munchkin character design, and I'm not saying that's what is being suggested, but I can appreciate a sub-optimal build if it's what you want to play and how you envision the character.
So we'll see what Perrah wants to do but either way is fine with me.

Hi Everyone, French Wolf here on behalf of Perrah.
I would have to agree with Celeador that Perrah is sub-optimal. Transmutation fits the background and so I'll stick with that even though Foresight and Teleportation have the best rep. As for the rest I'll spend some time this evening improving her scores and skills. Frankly I did her at speed based on a halfling transmuter5 from a Last Baron's Tower game and I can do better.
Introductions seem appropriate if this game is going places. I am a 46 year old house husband with two young kids. I work as a private maths tutor and also occasionally for Raging Swan Press (when I get the time). Love sport especially the Green Bay Packers and Liverpool Football Club.
Lastly I am British, its six o'clock here and what skills to we need most in the party?
Cheers

Welcome to the game!
I think we can use Knowledge: History, and perhaps Nobility or Planes. We seem to have some good Diplomacy from Randu and especially Ilya. Several of us have Knowledge: Religion, Nature and Survival. Vharg has Intimidate covered. :)
French Wolf |
Thanks Capricornus. Right I'll start with arcana, history and planes. Save nobility for next level.
Spent the last ten minutes looking for a decent trait based on Perception. Ironically couldn't find it! Only one I found was Eyes and Ears of the City (Abadar). Can anyone save me some time on this? Celeador?
Cheers
EDIT: Looks like the trait Scholar of the Great Beyond with +1 to two of those knowledge skills may seal it. I'm guessing that Perrah may be a wizard with low perception - go figure.

Ha ha ha. Its in the blood, father is a scouser, grandfather was too. I have supported the Reds since 1974.
Just so long as imimrtl isn't a fan of Man U. Please say it ain't so.
Cheers
Nope, Everton. ;-)

Welcome to the group Perrah. Now that I think about it, we never formally introduced ourselves. I am 30 years old and work for the U.S. Coast Guard. Actually during recruitment. I was out on patrol. Thankfully we have good enough internet that I was able to keep up with posts.

Welcome, Perrah. May I highly recommend (considering that this AP is very undead heavy): Necril.
I am a 33 year old, Restaurant General Manager in North Carolina. I usually favor whichever teams just gained promotion in the EPL (I like the underdog), and definitely root against any team playing Bayern Munich! the Carolina Panthers! or Team USA at the Olypmics! =)
