Background
The Town of Ashebrook
Ashebrook-by-the-lake has always been a sleepy little town, surrounded by woods and hills. The humans and halflings love their homeland and pleasant peaceful community. High on one hill hidden by stands of pine trees was the tower of Knottinsah the abjurer. He held several people in servitude, including a pretty young woman called Herane. While they worked off the service, they worried and gossiped about the strange deliveries and laboratory work that Knottinsah performed. But the halfling kept himself to himself and had no friends.

When a Child is Borne
One night he drugged Herane and took her unconscious form into a major circle of power, a beautiful gift for the devils of Hell. In return the evil wizard expected to receive many powers of darkness. It was down to the bravery of one old man and apprentice, Gerrin, who called on Nethys to end the black arts. Unknown to everyone, Gerrin's piety and promise of a magical tome and child of the Arts proved enough. The circle failed, the devil sent home with the abjurer in his arms. However Herane was with child. The authorities never knew, Gerrin took her to a local monastery and academy of Nethys, where the priests saved both lives. This was taken as a sign that the tiefling was destined for magic, and she too became a faithful follower of the two sides of Nethys. Skilled with the minutiae of dweomercraft but her body so weak and cursed.

The Academy
In the outside world, being a child of Hell would be cause suspicion. Here not so much. In fact, Perrah found growing up pleasant, her mother a little distant but then the girl loved magic. With her upbringing, Perrah could have been apprenticed to any of the major schools, in fact most of the Masters wanted her. But her frail body and the problems it has caused, led her down the route of a transmuter. Transmutation of his own body and others appealed like no other. Spells like those that allowed her to run faster than anyone, bring magical energy into a blade and cause soldiers to grow in battle. These powers struck a massive chord with the thin girl.

Recent Times
Once she was old enough, Perrah accompanied her mentor Gerrin on his journeys. It was during these trips that she briefly met his lifelong friend, Professor Lorrimor. Someone Gerrin had revered, explaining many times how the man had devoted his life to the honest pursuit of magical knowledge. He used the Professor as an example of how a mage can protect people against the dark arts, especially necromancy. Eventually the aged Gerrin retired to the old tower in Ashebrook, but he ordered Perrah to travel on, see Ustalav and above all learn from Professor Lorrimor in Ravengro.
When she found out about Lorrimor's death, she carried on knowing that is what her master would wish.

Personality
Perrah is a careful servant of magic. She tries hard to fulfil her talents and to stop the abuse of excessive power, especially magical power. Perrah never makes oaths, Asmodeus and his followers are in her blood. However she has learnt to be there and support those much stronger than herself.
She is afraid of being made helpless or bound into some kind of ritual. While something she doesn't discuss, she has a phobia for those kinds of entrapment.
