The party heads out of the Smiler area around noon and move up into a much more orderly section of Scrapwall where it looks like parts of the junkyard have been cleaned up and even organized.
They find a place to set up overwatch and look for a Smiler to ambush. The afternoon and evening pass by and as the sun goes down over the heap, you realize you haven't spotted a single Smiler since leaving their area.

Meyanda *NPC* |

Temple of Brigh
The party catches up with Meyanda and Dinvaya, finding the two have gotten along exceptionally well.
Meyanda pulls Razorend aside that evening.
"Thank you for bringing me here, I find Dinvaya to be much easier to understand than most natural-borns. I like that term ... better. It describes the difference between us and them, better. Dinvaya seems to think more like a machine than others and she may know more than I about constructs. Her dedication to her god of innovation allows her to create wondrous things! But it makes me curious about what makes things be alive. Are we alive? We were not born, we were created, so does that mean we don't live?"

Ganking a Smiler
The party heads out into the Smiler territory and finds a spot near where the manticore snatched the Smiler the previous day. Within half an hour, a party of Smilers heads that direction, but this time with purpose. Along with them are three massive creatures, with python-thick apish arms and stumpy legs that allow their dirty knuckles to drag along the street. One of the stooped giants blinks dim eyes and an excess of soupy drool spills over its bulbous lips as it scans the area of the attach. Its misshapen features resemble a man’s face rendered in watercolor, then distorted by a careless splash. They carry small trees as weapons.
The Smilers begin searching the area for something on their hands and knees

Urgeon Porpentine |

Urgeon whispers to the others. "There's more of them than we expected, but we may not get another chance. I say take them out. Once we kill the brutes I'll try to stun one of the smilers for interrogation."
If he doesn't get any push back from the others he begins summoning an earth elemental.

Razorend |

Razorend nods, "Let's do it, then." He readies his kukri and looks for a spot to come in unseen.

"That is great, Meyanda," Razorend replies with a smile. "I'm happy that this turned into an effective bridge for you."
"The question of what is or isn't life is something for the philosophers to argue," he adds with a shake of the head. "Whether we were born of a living parent or constructed, it makes no difference to me. Both come into the world from nothing. We have a soul within us, a little divine spark..."

Meyanda *NPC* |

Temple
"Yes, and the natural born ones have different reasons they gain that spark, most attributable to some God or another. But as I watch Dinvaya, I am curious why you and I supposedly have that spark, but these constructs she makes do not. I will explore this more thoroughly."

Razorend |

Temple
"I do not know, for sure. I believe Nethys has given me that soul. But why the gods deem which creatures of the world have a soul or not, I can only guess. And what of the undead, or spirits? I wish I could help more... these are questions that have haunted mankind for millennia."

Ganking a Smiler Round 2
Updated Init: Init: Urgeon, Smilers, Ridic, Kovax, Ogres, Razorend
Urgeon and his elemental move forward (technically, Urgeon can only prevent the elemental from attacking the nearest creature if he can speak Terran) as the Smilers move toward the edge of the area again, this time one of them gets tied up.
The other three exit the area and fire their pistols at the party. The fourth shoots from where he is entangled. Kovax gets drilled by two bullets while Ridic hits the dirt dodging his. The party waits for the ogres to move forward and Kovax gets his chance as one stumbles free roaring in rage and swinging wildly at the barbarian. [ooc(Take your readied attack ... no AoO since they also have reach)[/ooc]
One of the other ogres, close to the edge of the entanglement gets frustrated with his predicament and lashes out at the elemental near by, pulverizing it into a pile of rubble.

Armor is 5, +1 is deflect for it being magical, counts on Touch AC, +6 dex while raging for 17 Touch AC. Mithril Shirt has a max dex AC bonus of 6
Edit - Actually just read that magical bonuses don't count against touch AC, thought they did, though still at AC 16 for touch

Ganking a Smiler Round 3
Updated Init: Init: Razorend, Urgeon, Smilers, Ridic, Kovax, Ogres,
Razorend slips from the shadows as Urgeon runs up and slices a Smiler deeply. The Smiler that he's fighting drops his pistol and whips out a knife, slashing at the android. The others reload their weapons, one still struggling against the vines.
Ridic moves away from the Smiler loading to engage the one with Razorend missing wide. Kovax shreds the incoming ogre who stumbles, a stupid look on its face, but doesn't fall. His second blow cuts it down.
One of the other ogres breaks free and moves toward the edge of the entanglement field while the third one still raging against his bonds lashes out at Razorend who has just stepped within reach, smashing the android with a bone-breaking blow.

Ganking a Smiler Round 4
Updated Init: Init: Razorend, Urgeon, Smilers, Ridic, Kovax, Ogres
Razorend steps out of reach of the thrashing ogre and slashes at the Smiler, his blade skipping off the man's leather.
Urgeon moves up and shoots the northern Smiler with a dazzling cone of rainbow light blasting the man unconscious.
The remaining Smilers fire their pistols or attack with daggers. Kovax and Ridic both get shot. Ridic responds by driving his scythe straight through the heart of the Smiler fighting Razorend casting off the still twitching body on the rocky ground. Kovax steps up and wounds his opponent grievously.
The 2 remaining ogres fight in the weeds some more with the same one near the front still thrashing about uselessly.
Smiler Will Save vs color spray: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4; fail
Smiler 2 Touch vs Kovax: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21; HIT!; Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1
Smiler 4 Touch vs Ridic: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23; HIT!; Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5

Ogre 1 Str: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18; success
Ogre 3 Str: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10; fail!
A couple notes: I realize that entangle doesn't prevent them from moving, but it works for this fight. Second, Ridic, you get to quadruple your static bonuses as well ... so should be somewhere around +12 to +16 on your crit dice, fysa
Actions Round 5

Urgeon Porpentine |

Urgeon takes a step forward and color sprays both the smiler and ogre in front of him.

Razorend |

Razorend charges the southern smiler, switching to Leaping Spirit Dance on the run. As he nears the foe, he leaps into the attack, kukri leading.
Kukri (charge): 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 9 + 2 = 27; Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
+2 dodge bonus to AC, offset by the charge penalty.
