For any unappraised items, note that it's not a trained skill, so Meditrina might be able to hit the DC, and even Agatha and Lucian if they're lucky. Please try any that we still don't know from the loot tracker.
Talon occupies his morning with trying to sell the treasure the group had obtained. He also inquires whether there are any vendors that might sell wands.
diplomacy (gather information): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
I'd like to sell everything and see how much gold we have to play with. I'll also take stock of any MW weapons in the general store or weapons shops.

DM DoctorEvil |

The trader at the general store is Vivalla Steranus. She is a fair trader, and while her store does a brisk business, it is still a small town so many items are unavailable.
She will buy your gems and jewels, including the elven riding boots which she covets, at the prices you ask, based on your appraise skills. This nets you 140gp.
She also offers to buy your adventuring gear for one-half the appraised (or book value) plus a 10% bonus due to the quality of the items, and your bravery in serving the town. Items sold this way are: composite longbow, silver dagger, spyglass, and two normal daggers. These items net you an additional 400gp.
She will not buy the unknown green fluid, not knowing what it is. She looks over the magical shortsword and will offer you 1000gp for it.
She suggests you get the cleric brother Safander, to ID the scrolls.
In total that would net you 540gp + 1000gp more if you sell the shortsword.
Vivalla does not have a wand of healing available the list of magic items available in her shop are: an arrow magnet and a ring of force shield. She does say that the blacksmith and the church may have other additional magical or useful items for sale.
NOTE: A map of Heldren and the key to the town is under the Campaign Info tab. There may be other useful places to shop, etc while i the town.

DM DoctorEvil |

Do you choose to sell the shortsword as well? I am curious to know.
The blacksmith is brawny fellow, as could be expected, and as it turns out Isker Uphram is also the leader of the town's militia. He is more of a horseshoer than a weaponsmith, but he does have a suit of masterwork banded mail for sale, as well as 10 +1 cold iron sling bullets.
"I could craft a find weapon for ye, good lad, but it'd take time, and my weapon craftin' skill ain't what it used ta be. I haven't got any t'hand just now. Have you got the time to wait and the money to pay for the materials?"
At the church, which is a temple to Erastil, the priest Father Natharen asks "Do you have some idea what is behind the unseasonable weather? My flock seems to think that Erastil is angry with them, and is ruining their harvest, but I have seen no signs of that. I have been crafting items since your departure that may aid in your survival."
He brings out a wand of magic weapon (24 charges) and a scroll of aid. He also has a half-dozen potions of endure elements, and 4 potions of Cure light wounds.
All of these would be at PRD price value unless otherwise indicated. I am going by the items available in the town, sorry its not exactly what you are looking for...

Lucian the bloodhound |

Life is no ponyhof. I do not know, but as we have nothing expensive to buy, we can hold on the shortsword. Maybe we will need magical weapons sooner than we think
Lucian looks at the wand and the CLW Potions longingly.
He will be asking the smith if he also Cold iron arrows.

![]() |

A half-used wand might be a good purchase. The potions also look good, though expensive for what we have. We'll need to be on the lookout for a wand of CLW, though I also think MW weapons for our martial characters would all be good buys, including a MW two-hander for Agatha. Was that bow we sold MW? If so, Lucian could likely use that.
Talon inquires as whether the blacksmith could craft a masterwork dagger of cold iron, and what the cost would be.
I'd rather have Agatha have priority in MW weapons. However, at level 2, I get weapon finesse and will be a lot more competent in melee, and would like to get MW daggers when possible.

DM DoctorEvil |

Iskar shrug, showing Agatha his collection of weapons. "Yer blade there ain't exactly dainty, miss. I got a few items, but none much better, I am a'feared."
Let's say he has any weapon available that is in Core Rulebook. Other more exotic weapons are not available here.
He agrees to make a cold-iron dagger for Talon for the usual price That is 2x the PRD or 4 gp for a Cold-iron dagger
To Lucien: "Sorry to disappoint you friend, but our tavern, The Silver Stoat, ain't got no inn rooms. I reckon Miss Kale will let you sleep on the floor near the fire, if yer with these brave fellas. They are going to save us all from this cold winter, ain'tcha?"
I guess I will assume that you held onto the magical shortsword, since I only heard one vote for keeping it from the group. As a result you have sold 540gp of items. Split equally 4 ways (excluding Lucien for obvious reasons) that makes 135gp to spend. You may also pool, but I need SOMEONE to take charge of that and make a decision.

![]() |

Can do. 135Gp from Agatha
Agatha will look at the offered items shrug and stay with her sword. She then puts her share again in the sack saying "We Need Gold for the items. Keep my share! And magical sword for Talon is a good idea!"

![]() |

"I would like another cold iron dagger made, then," Talon agrees with the blacksmith.
I'm a knife master, so won't be using a short sword as my main weapon. I'm happy to hang onto it for a bit and throw it back in the pot to sell later if we'd like to have a magical weapon in the group, or Agatha could use it as a backup weapon, as well.

DM DoctorEvil |

Agatha presses the magical shortsword into the hands of Talon, who is a bit reluctant, but takes it anyway, just in case.
Isker smiles as Talon orders an additional cold-iron dagger. "Shall be ready in the mornin', I 'xpect." says the burly man.
Agatha has pooled all her coin. What about the rest of you? What do you choose to do or buy with it?

Trawets Aarock |

Trawets will spend his transcribing the two scrolls into his spellbook and spells from the captured spell book and purchases a cure light wounds potion.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 Magic Weapon
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26 Unseen Servant
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 Feather Fall
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 Alarm

DM DoctorEvil |

Be warned - GM rant coming....
I feel like I am having a failure to communicate here at its most basic level. I keep asking questions and no one answers or answers with sufficient detail to move us along.
So you want to pool your money to buy healing potions from the priest. so far --so far, only one person has agreed to that concept. That doesn't make much of a pool. Let's imagine that I just forced the pooling. Great. How many potions? What kind? What do you do with the rest of your money? These are all still left unanswered.
I am happy to just hand-wave and move on to the next day, but will be left without any gear and in the wilderness where none is readily available. It may not seem important now, but could be the difference between living and dying in a tough adventure.
If this were a tabletop game, I would just keep asking you until you gave me the answers I need, but in PbP it takes days to get responses, and then the responses aren't adequate or complete enough. One sentence non-sequiters aren't sufficient. You have to provide an answer for the question that is asked in enough detail that we can move on.
This level of detail is required when buying and selling equipment. It can go fast, or it can be really hard (like it is now.) Answer what I ask you, make a response of some kind to the question at hand, and we can get this over with and back to killing things.
If you are ready to go with no gear, and just a bunch of coins, I'm fine with that. The fey will enjoy spending the money they loot from your ill-equipped corpses.
End Rant
Now, I am going to try this again....Who is in favor of pooling their money to buy items that benefit the group? I have an aye from Agatha, and perhaps from Talon.

Lucian the bloodhound |

I think the gm told us just excaclty what the town has to offer. a wand of magic weapon (24 charges)(360gp) and a scroll of aid(150gp). He also has a half-dozen potions of endure elements (50gp), and 4 potions of Cure light wounds (50gp). If we take the wand and the heal potions thats 560 gp. We can afford it if we sell a few unwanted items like an extra weapon or so. I think Agatha has an armor and weapon to sell, that should net the missing 20. If we agree we are done.

DM DoctorEvil |

After securing some magical items from the priest of Erastil, the party settles down for a warm, comfortable night on the floor, near the fire, of the Silver Stoat. The sleep is deeper than they've had for a bit, and rested they awake come the next morning, to smells of bacon frying.
Several of Heldren's notables, led by Councilor Ionnia Teppen, have gathered in the Stoat early to wish you off. Menander and Kale Garimos have provided a hearty (and free!) breakfast, and the smith Isker Euphram returns with your cold-iron weapons, delivering them proudly in front of the rest of the village.
Councilor Teppen wishes you well "The future of Heldren, and perhaps all of Taldor, rests on your shoulders. Go, and may Old Deadeye guide you unerringly on your path.". Everyone circles the room to shake hands or hug the heroes as they depart, and finally, Father Safander gives each of you a blessing of Erastil for the road.
This blessing allows a +1 bonus on any one d20 roll of your choice during the next 24 hours.
Outside, the livery owner, Sophia Imirras, has a group of ponies ready for your ride to the Winter Pocket. "They are some good beasts," she says proudly, "but they may not bear up well in the icy cold up in the Border Woods. Use them until you reach the pocket, and then send them back for home. I will send my man to fetch them later today. i wish I had beasts more hearty to send with you, but..." she turns up her hands and shrugs.
As you mount up, and begin to ride from the town square south towards the wood, you see the Lady Malassene standing on the porch of the home of Councilor Teppen. She is wrapped in a robe, shivering from the cold, but she waves you over.
"I fear I have behaved monstrously towards you all." she begins holding up her hands to forestall any protest. "A good night's sleep does wonders for one's perspective. You rescued me from who knows what fate, and I'll I did was complain about it. Now you go to risk your lives once more, while I travel for my manor house. I won't forget your bravery and heroism. I don't have the means to reward you properly at present, but once I am back home, I will send something for you, a token of my appreciation. Until then, godspeed, and good luck!" She embraces each of you in turn, and waves farewell as you ride south along the post road to Zimar.

DM DoctorEvil |

The trip to the ambush site, which had taken nearly 3 hours by foot, takes about half that time riding on the slow but sturdy ponies provided. As you head south, you see the storm built over the Border Woods quite clearly, and the weather begins to turn worse by the minute. Soon flurries of snow flit through the air around you, and before long, the ground begins to cover with a rime of frost, the snow accumulating in mid-summer.
Without passing anyone on the road, you reach the ambush site, where the frozen captain still stands a warning to any passing this way. Here the path up into the woods is covered in deep snow, and the ponies must be sent back. Securing the tether to one of the overturned carriages, you start to make it on foot back into the woods, the brisk wind stinging your face as snow falls.
Back in the freezing temperatures, which require a DC 15 Fort save in the first hour or start to take non-lethal damage and be fatigued. The DC increases by 1 each hour of exposure. Endure Elements or similar protection can help, cold weather gear adds a +5 to each Fort save against exposure. Experience tells you it is about 4 hours to the lodge where you found the noblewoman before.
1: 1d100 ⇒ 84
2: 1d100 ⇒ 96
Go ahead and make the first set of Fort saves (DC 15) now.

Talon trudges along with the others in silence. Though he had hoped the reward from the 'princess' would provide him with the funds he needed to get out of town and back on his feet, he had found himself very disappointed when he realized she didn't have any funds with her.
Perhaps shortly...
Now he found himself hoping the town would provide a reward for any heroic efforts to save them. At least his companions had proven reliable.
"Where to, now? It seems we could keep going from the cabin...should we try there?"
fort save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

Trawets Aarock |

First thing in the morning Trawets prepares his spells for the day. Then using his Read Magic he reads the two remaining scrolls to find out what they are.
Upon dismounting from his pony Trawets says, "It getting very cold again. Time for my endure elements I think." He then casts his endure elements and says, "I think going to the cabin and proceeding from there may be best, but I'll follow you Lucian."

DM DoctorEvil |

One of the scrolls is Cure Light Wounds, and the other is Endure Elements, both likely valuable in the current weather conditions.
Leaving the ambush site, the group treks up into the woods, retracing their steps from a few days before. The pass the log trap where the chest still stands, nearly buried in the snow.
After that the woods where the sprites attacked. The crow feather totems of the tiny fey still apparent in the tree tops, although none appear to be nearby any longer.
The frozen corpse of an elk indicates the spot where the heroes came up on the white stag, whose rider tried to fool them, and paid the price.
After another several minutes march, the party comes upon the crossing for Wishbone Creek where they fought off some winter elementals who guarded the crossing.
This trip will have taken one more hour. Please make the DC 16 Fort save or take 1d6 non-lethal and be fatigued. If you have Endure Elements or similar protection, no roll is necessary.
Since Meditrina is away, I will assume that she memorized Endure Elements as one of her first level spells, if not, she can make the saves retroactively.

DM DoctorEvil |

I believe Lucian, Trawets, and Meditrina are all proteted by Endure Elements and Agatha has the Cloak of the Yeti keeping her warm. That means only Talon needs the Fort saves vs cold. I will roll his next to keep the story moving.
Talon DC 16 Fort save vs cold, cold weather gear: 1d20 + 3 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 3 + 5 = 25
While the wind whistles around them, and the snow continues to fall, all the heroes remain protected against the bitter cold. They ford Wishbone Creek without incident, and continue climbing deeper into the woods and the winter pocket.
After about 20 minutes more walking, they pass the boulders where they first had contact with Rokhar's Raiders, defeating a handful of bandits who tried to ambush them along the path.
From that site, it's another hard hour to the High Sentinel lodge where you plan to rest. The going is hard as the snow deepens, but the smoke from the fire in the lodge is visible over the tree tops.
Need one last DC 17 Fort save and then you will be inside the comfort of the lodge house.
Talon DC 17 Fort vs cold, cold weather gear: 1d20 + 3 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 3 + 5 = 24
Reaching the lodge without incident, at roughly noon, you are pleased to see the roaring fire blazing in the hearth, and the smell of something cooking in the kitchen. Ten-Penny greets you, and offers you some watery soup and a shot of brandy.
"Ten-Penny never thought you'd make it back here. You some damn fools to be out in this cold. Catch your deaths, you will. Eat and rest and then tell Ten-Penny what you plan to do next."
