Roshelle eyes the spiders warily as they pass by. "I've never seen that type before so I'll have to trust you on that Jerrick."

She continues slowly with the rest of the group down the stairs.

"Or a haunt. Maybe that Erdergun guy died but left a knot of negative energy that we'll have to deal with."

Ha, I had to look that one up. That's from the book? I read it once but definitely don't remember the spider.

Yeah, it didn't make it into the movie. Not sure why it stuck in my mind; I haven't reread the book for something like 40 years.

Botting Seamus:

Knowledge (Nature) check: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

The gnome shakes his head, smothering a smile. "Those are harmless, unless you're a little bug."

Haftor grumps along in thoughtful silence, ruminating on the circumstances of Steelhand's death. So tragic. Part of him was hoping the traitor had risen in undeath so that he'd have a chance to smash the loathsome creature, but that was an unworthy thought, and he tried to put it out of his mind.

When Jarrek voices almost exactly what he'd been thinking, Haftor stops and glances up, looking startled and perhaps a bit guilty. "Aye. Let's try to keep in mind we be tomb raidin' fer the betterment of civilization." There's obvious irony in his voice, and if he's trying to convince himself of the righteousness of their actions, it clearly hasn't yet worked.

As the party descends further, the webs become thicker and thicker, draping from the underside of the steps above in great opaque sheets. More and more spiders cling to the webs, crawling back and forth.

Any preparations you want to make at this point?

I had to look it up too. I read the book many years ago. Didn't remember that part. In fact, I don't remember much of the book because I was too focused on comparing it to the movie. I probably should re-read it.

Haftor wrote:
"Aye. Let's try to keep in mind we be tomb raidin' fer the betterment of civilization."

Roshelle recognizes the conflict in Haftor's voice. She reaches out to him and places her hand on his forearm.

"Haftor, we will as respectful as possible. I don't think of us here as robbing the tomb. I think of it as us fulfilling a destiny -- completing Steelhand's final quest. Who's to say that this weapon wasn't interred with him for exactly a moment like this."

She gazed into his eyes, simultaneously seeing the turmail and churning emotions inside him while projecting a sense of confidence and rightness in what they were doing. After a moment she smiles deeply, withdraws her hand and looks up at the low hanging sheets of webbing.

"I don't like all these webs. They get in my hair. Any idea how much further down these stairs go?"

Do we see the end yet?

Male Half-Orc Bard (Arcane Duelist)/Oracle (Lore) 5/1 [HP: 47/47 | AC:23 | T:14 | FF:19 | CMB:+8 | CMD:22 | Fort:+5 | Ref:+9 | Will:+6 | Init:+0 | Perc:+0 (Darkvision) | Spd 20]

"With the spiders and things outside there are probably more in here." Jarrek nods.

Same question- Jarrek might buff if we seem near the entrance to a room or the bottom of the stairs but if we're still going down he probably wouldn't change anything.

Rise of the Runelords Pt2|RotRL Pt 3| Giantslayer|Emerald Spire| CORE Emerald Spire

The webs block sight of the bottom from where you are.

The slow descent continues. Up ahead, Seamus can see another landing through the webs.

Besides Seamus in front, what's your single-file marching order, and what are you using for light?

Roshelle cast Light on her glaive and indicated she wanted to be near the middle.

Kronug is behind Seamus.
"Let's not pack in as tightly as possible, but rather leave a space behind me so that Seamus can fall back if he needs to."

I always found PFS to be quite fond of the 'clogged pipe' formation where everybody is so packed in that nobody can move. I tend to find it not a great idea.

Male Dwarf Warpriest 6, Orc Hewer (AC: 22 [26 against monsters of the giant subtype], HP: 56/60) Giants Slain: Cave Giant x1, Hill Giant x3, Hill Giant Skeleton x1, Marsh Giant x1

I guess Haftor should take rear guard. He has his loaded crossbow ready and he can use his darkvision to see behind the group. No buffs yet.

Haftor responds to Roshelle, "That's a fine sentiment. Thank you." It's clear to her that he remains unconvinced.

Male Half-Orc Bard (Arcane Duelist)/Oracle (Lore) 5/1 [HP: 47/47 | AC:23 | T:14 | FF:19 | CMB:+8 | CMD:22 | Fort:+5 | Ref:+9 | Will:+6 | Init:+0 | Perc:+0 (Darkvision) | Spd 20]

Looking at the last time we listed a marching order it was Kronug, Haftor, Seamus, Trianne, Jarrek, so with Haftor in back it should be Kronug, Jarrek, Seamus, Roshelle, Haftor. Or if he's up scouting then Seamus first but a distance in front of Kronug.

What does that mean for spacing? 10 feet? 15?

Jarrek shrugs. "Sure thing. I'll be back here."

Rise of the Runelords Pt2|RotRL Pt 3| Giantslayer|Emerald Spire| CORE Emerald Spire

As I understand it, Seamus is leading, followed closely by Kronug, then a 5' gap so Seamus can retreat if he needs to, then Jarrek, Roshelle, Haftor.

Sounds good to me. Seamus needs to be in front for traps, and Kronug has the best AC.

Seems correct to me too.

As Seamus reaches the landing, he and Kronug glance over the edge and see a humanoid figure in the webbing, its outlines blurred by the layers of silk. It hisses in oddly enunciated Dwarven, its voice a husky contralto.

Dwarven:
"Trespassers in Lokmorr's shrine! Prepare to meet your end!"

Before the hidden form acts, a pair of creatures like the ones you faced outside leap out from concealment and attack Seamus and Kronug (Kronug, I presume you'll attack the target of opportunity first instead of delaying further.)

The one on Kronug takes the hit and keeps going, but misses the fighter; the one on Seamus likewise misses the gnome.

Roshelle is up!

Roshelle delays. The concealed figure croons a wordless tune, and in response the webs around Kronug and Seamus wrap themselves around the pair as another spider emerges and attacks the alchemist. It bites him for 2 HP, plus a DC 13 Fort save or take 1 point STR damage. From the save below, Seamus is down a point.

DC 16 Fort save or entangled, Kronug.

Seamus DC 16 Fort save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

The webs bind Seamus tightly! Despite that and his weakness, he still manages to put a bomb in the general area of the concealed figure (although the webs keep the bulk of the flames from her).

Haftor and Jarrek can act!

Looks like 1 ally adjacent for my teamwork feats. With Auspicious Birth, that is +2 untyped from Shake it Off, and +2 sacred from Lastwall Phalanx (if the foe is evil).

Fort, Shake it Off +2, Lastwall Phalanx +2: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 2 + 2 = 12

Can't do much about a Nat 1. Entangled.

"Come on, everyone! We've squished spiders before! This is nothing! We've got this!" Jarrek's usual bravado inspired a feeling of hope and confidence in everyone even as he stepped toward the nearest spider-thing, huge blade flickering to life as he menaced the monster.

I'll try to get a clean image of Stilgrit up. She looks like a cross between a dwarf and a spider, with extra legs (which she's currently using to cling to the wall), extra arthropod eyes on her forehead, claws, and spiderlike fangs.

Apparently startled by her appearance, Haftor can't get his crossbow on target.
