DM B's PFS GD5 PbP: Thralls of the Shattered God (Inactive)

Game Master Beckett

A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 5-9 <8-9>
After two years of blood and bravery, the Fifth Mendevian Crusade has struck a terrible blow to the Worldwound’s demons and reclaimed lost territory. The Pathfinder Society, as one of the crusade’s partners in this endeavor, has earned the right to explore and salvage what it can of the lost Sarkorian sites under Mendev’s control, and it has identified one ruin as a priority. In fact, the site seems to actively call to one agent in particular, a scarred survivor of abyssal experiments. Venture-Captain Jorsal of Lauterbury has asked the PCs to accompany this agent into the wasteland, where perhaps she might learn how to control her demonic half—or purge it completely.
Content in “Thralls of the Shattered God” also contributes directly to the ongoing storyline of the Silver Crusade faction.

I appreciate if you if you could borrow the wand to Tûrak, so he can use it with UMD (take '10 to a 23). :)

Before charge against the door, Tûrak will drink:

And these extracts:

Already drinked:

@DM Beckett please, allow me to know when they are getting close to end.

Tûrak didn't have time to react against the mimic, Rilas takes care of it before the half-orc could act. "Nice work", he greets him.

Once inside the crypt, the alchemist makes a quickly comment "are we in abyss?"

Tûrak is very apprehensive at this moment. "Look, the purple spiked creature in the pictures is a kalavakus demon. It is not good. Is this really a cathedral dedicated to this 'Laktharis'? Is it really a god or a damned demon?", now he isn't liking what he see.

Then, he turns to Valais: "to where now?"

@Tûrak you can't 'take 10' with UMD (except if you have something special)

We are in the Worldwound an Abyss' touched region.
As for Laktharis, it could be... I know ancient Sarkorian used to sometime worship outsiders, demon or angel.
But if what you say is true, that this figure is in fact Laktaris and it's a demon then I fear that Laktaris is twisted god...

Albert stay behind, waiting for his comrade to destroy or trigger the trap.

It actually seems to be normal flesh, just not enough fire. The arrow however seems to do a lot of the trick, though the powers of the righteousness within have no effect.

Between both the flames and the arrow, the fleshy covering, something halfway between "webbing" and a fungal wall is mostly gone, and another single arrow (or fire application) is enough to remove it. As it is hit, however, it seems to react violently to such stimuli, and the small pustules and boils erupt, sending a spray of acidic necrosis across the room. Only Wilson and <the bird-dinosaur mini> are close enough to be caught in it's rain, (hit twice each).

Crawling through, or rather under the trap seems to do the trick, leading you directly into the intersection. A black marble statue stands at the intersection. It is a hulking humanoid with elephantine feet and large razor-sharp horns covering its body. Spiky script carved into the plinth compounds the sinister nature of the figure.

“The righteous will fall on their own swords to protect their honor. Only the humble will be left, serving their masters and living long lives.”

As she gazes at the statue, Valais winces slightly and raises a hand to the demonic half of her face. “This must be MY GRAND COUNTENANCE. Here’s our proof that we are in the right place. I was thinking that we should TURN LEFT.” Valais’s eyes widen slightly as she continues, “No, we should not turn left. YOU WILL TURN LEFT. What I’m trying to say is that we should look around carefully before proceeding TO THE LEFT, WORMS.” Valais raises her voice, “Before proceeding in whichever direction you choose. The demons have never been this insistent before. We must be close to our destination.”

Sense Motive DC 20:
There was something a little odd with Valais as she said that last broken statement, different from everything else she had said before with her different voices. You spot her reaction for just a moment, but it seems that this is the first time she has ever heard herself, her other selves speak.

Albert turns to Valais Are you alright Valais ? Is that true what Diri says ? You begin to loose control with the part which is not yours ?
Can we help ?

Then he turns to his comrades

I have no idea. Left or right a demon is pure chaos. If he knows we know. He will try to deceive us, I vote for Left.

Clever

What I said, demons are indeed quite deceitful !

Which path do you suggest Rilas ?

Detect Magic and Spellcraft checks might give you more information on each, and a Dispel Magic might be good enough to bypass one (or both), if that's an option.

"Well my gut says to go right. Attack spells are usually straight forward but a symbol spell could be anything, and usually not good at all. Besides, I don't trust whatever part of Valais is telling us to go left. Demons never have good intentions."

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 Meh, was worth a shot.

Incomplete information makes for poor analysis.

"I concur with Rilas that the low-variance option to the right is more predictable therefore preferential to the high-variance option travelling left presents," Diri offers. "While certainly an improbable solution I can also attempt to excise the spell effect completely with considerable risk of triggering whichever outcome we are planning to avoid."

If the party agrees, Diri will cast dispel magic on the right trap.

The path tot he right seems to hold powerful divine spell, you believe "blade barrier", but while the trap occupies the majority of the pathway, it is actually cunningly set to not be triggered until someone has crossed a certain threshold somewhere into the area.

Whats odd is that you see a small tendril of magical energy, leading back to the statue itself, like there is some sort of synergy or connection between the two. It's unclear just what that is, but in doing so you do spot a small hidden compartment at the base of the statue itself.

Inside you find a set of manacles, but they also glow as Aikio looks upon them, indicating some sort of magical property.

Spellcraft DC 16:
They are, you are pretty certain at least, manacles of cooperation. These tight iron cuffs can fit over the wrists of any Large or smaller humanoid. When placed on a helpless humanoid, they make the captive more docile and compliant. The prisoner never attempts to escape of its own volition and agrees to any reasonable request unless it succeeds at a DC 11 Will saving throw.

Additionally, there is also a magical (+1) Flail, but as soon as she sees it, Valais makes her way over and tries to grab it, but finds it is somehow stuck in place. The statue comes to life, for just a moment, it's raised arm dropping to strike her. Aikio sees a sudden pulse of magic in that small tendril that leads to both of the trapped areas in both hallways. Valias grabs her face, backing off wounded and surprised. "I don't understand. I knew to grab the weapon just like I knew to find my way here."

Destroying the statue, either trying to topple it with sheer strength or by pounding it with a blunt weapon just might release the weapon, and Diri suspects may also bypass one, if not both of the traps here, but, it's risky, as the statue seems to attack back.

"If the statue could be displaced the linked arcane mechanisms may be disrupted enough to alter the operation of either trap but that would require the combined force of as many as seven gnomes or two gnomes with the combined strength of three gnomes apiece joined by a third gnome of average strength," she remarks, matter-of-factly, looking to size up who the strongest in the group is. "Also it will try to kill us."

Not holding out hope, but does it seem bypassable via Disable Device? Or lots and lots of arrows from aways away?

"I agree with Ariana. I can create a pit in the hall. It might break the connection, though I don't think it will help with the statue. Or I can cast a grease spell," the wizard offers.
