I placed my custom order on the page before that HERE and apparently ordered a Ring and not an Amulet, so I need to fix that on my character sheet.

That's right, thanks for pointing them out to me. Sadly there isn't a lot I can buy that I really need just yet. Add to it that I can craft stuff myself now there isn't a need to. Just gotta get around to doing the crafting.

@GM: Putting the mossy disk in the Ioun Gauntlet would grant:
+5 Knowledge (Engineering), +1 Appraise, AND +1 Linguistics or is the Appraise only when it is put into a Wayfinder?

@Team: I would love to keep both the gauntlet and the new stone, but am more than willing to give them up to anyone else who wants them.


The Appraise bonus works when it's in a wayfinder or the gauntlet. So you'd get all three bonuses.

Did we fully explore the crater? How far from town are we? If possible I'd like to go gather supplies to dig out the bodies melted into the stone so we can put them to rest before the spirits grow restless again.


You've explored everything here except the locked room. Town is only a few miles away.

I am in for going back to town for that purpose, though trying to dig the skeleton out with picks would make me nervous. Magic would be better.

Maybe we can recruit one of the priests to come along and have an actual burial.

Ema, I never would have thought to use ths elemental for excavation. Way to know your abilities!

So, we are back to deciding what to do next. We can make a trip to Vriskrisa, but that is 1.5 days each way.

I'm not sure how far it is to the Strix settlement.

The next coordinates require swimming or a boat and sound as if they are a bit of a trip.

I have no preference, but suggest the Strix simply because it is closer.

@GM Just so I understand... The language most of the Strix are speaking is different than the language I know of as Strix?


Yes, it's actually a language called Syrinx. Only the strix of Cheliax speak what you know of as Strix. You may retrain languages when you level up if you like.

@GM That's fine. I was going to work Simon's confusion into a gameplay post and just wanted to sure that I understood correctly.

@Ema Some of it is intentional. Simon has never had siblings, and has somewhat adopted each of the party members as surrogates. Ema happens to be the sibling that he has a rivalry with. Not that he understands what he is doing...

So, the retraining rules for languages aren't really retraining, if I read them correctly.

You actually gain an additional language that doesn't count against your regular maximum (starting + bonus + linguistics) but it takes 20 days and you have to share a language with someone who knows that language or have a book to help.

That's not going to work with Kalikk.

Maybe I could take a spell tax and use Comprehend Languages to work with her for an hour a day?

I can get a book from the library and help her to learn Common as well.

Looks like leveling up will be the best way to learn to speak with our new friend, but I am willing to try this scenario. I doubt we have 20 days until we have to battle the hag, though.


You can use comprehend languages and work with her while you travel together to allow rudimentary conversation, since Strix and Syrinx are similar enough. You can switch them out when you level up at no charge.
