I'm not allowed to Flurry of Blows by shooting arrows, I can only do it by making melee attacks with the bow itself. I probably would have just taken a shot and then moved up to flurry the next turn. But I'll remember next time. I didn't realize a full-attack action was your whole action for the turn. Apologies

Instead of fending off jakscar everything goes black and Jam feels as if he's staring off into the abyss. With a deadened look in his eyes he mutters to himself so low in volume that no one nearby could understand the sounds he was making.

Angelica stares wild-eyed at the creature, watching as Shabbezz offers one last effort before succumbing to her injuries. She tries to snap herself out of that odd feeling of being in a waking dream, where she can effect no change. Reaching over to her left arm, she drags her nails down it, trying to pain herself to wakefulness or action.

Seeing the traitorous spy now mumbling in some code or perhaps the words to a spell Jakscar reacts quickly. He no longer needs the words in his head to convince him to attack such a vile person and strikes.

Luckily his attacks are weak and poorly aimed as something deep in his brain fights his attack and Jam is easily able to avoid the hits.

I believe you have Zen Archer mistaken. The whole point of the Zen Archer is to be able to flurry while SHOOTING the bow.

Male Half-Orc Monk (Zen Archer) 5 / Fort. +4, Refl. +5, Will +7 / AC: 16, T: 16, FF: 14 / Init: +3 / (HP 28 of 28)

OHHHH. Wow, yeah I totally misunderstood the bit that said (Starting at 1st level, a zen archer can make a flurry of blows as a full-attack action, but only when using a bow (even though it is a ranged weapon) I took this to mean I could flurry with it as a melee weapon despite it normally being a ranged weapon.)

Yeah, totally mistook what the zen archer does 'cause I was mostly interested in smacking things with the bow itself when I was making the character, but, I'll just roll with it. It makes loads more sense to be able to flurry whilst shooting now. I'm not sure how I misunderstood it that badly, haha.

I mean, if you want to smack it with your bow like a stave you can. But that is such a non-optimal solution its stuck at a local minima

The creature's aura of confusion continued to wreak havoc on your ability to get a telling blow. Fortunately, the glowing starknife found a decent purchase and scored a deep hit onthe monster, who roared in pain, even as a staggering Shabbezz fired a volley of magical missiles that exploded around its head. The worm-like creature lashed out at the knife, biting futilely at the pointy wepon behind its head. It's tail, on the other hand, whipped towards the obvious source of its pain, and caught Shabbezz a telling blow. The grippli was flung back into the shelves behind her, which collapsed on top of the poor wizard as darkness claimed her

It loosed another as Jam got an arrow through its defenses, the shaft burying itself to the fletching in the creature's throat. Jam moved beyond sight as he collected himself, but not before Zaphomil's healing energies washed over him and everyone else.

As everyone else stood about, Jakscar turned on Zaphomil, the newest threat to their group. Both blades came crashing down on the little healer, but neither connected. Angelica came to her senses enough to grab Shabbezz and drag her from the room, though she wasn't sure that standing net to Jakscar was a good proposition. Still, it got the wounded grippli out of the reach of that nasty girbbly. Said nasty gribbly struck out at them as she moved, its tail sword slashing into Angelica's back. The burglar grunted at the pain but kept moving, even as the creature struck at Zaphomil once again. The gnome's healing kept him upright, but only just. The bedframe was built upon a solid platform of stone, and none of the other furnishing were moveable either.

Round 8:

R8: creature, angelica, shabbezz, jam, zaphomil, jakscar

Here's the map

Current hit point status:

angelica -0
jakscar -0
jam -0
shabbezz -15
zaphomil -20

HP: 5/42, AC 19 t:13 ff:17, f+7 r+3w+8(+2vs illusions, +2 vs transmutations) Perc +12, init +1 Gnome Cleric of Desna 6

Zaphomil perks up. "Hey, there was a door down the hallway that was trapped, right? Angelica, can you let us through and then reactivate it? Give this beastie a good jolt?"

Female Changeling "Varisian" Burglar 4/Fighter 2 (AC: 20 [T: 14 /F: 16] (+2 vs Traps); HP: 49/49; F+4, R+7 (+2 vs traps), W+1 (+2 vs Illusions/Fear); Init: +3; Perc: +16 [+18/+20], 60' darkvision)

Angelica has no time to quibble over semantics, "Yes, but not with so little time." She looks around desperately, "Our best chance is you heal us as best you can, and we all ready everything we got as soon as it breaks through. We get one chance to hit it hard before it mushes our brains again. Whiskers and me flank it on each side."

No real action beyond hold the door. Maybe total defense?
Can this door be locked from this side? If so, she'll do that instead, Disable Device 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29

Status:
HP: 32/39
AC: 20 (14/16)
Effects: +4 AC while moving

AC:22,t:14,ff:18; f:6,r:7,w:0 (+1vs fear); Init:4; Per:9 Catfolk Fighter 5/Rogue (Rake) 1 (HP57/57)

Leaning against the door, Jakscar nods at Angelica's suggestion, wills himself to fight the insidious voices in his head and readies to fight. Then an idea strikes him, "Zaph, Shabbezz, this thing that the creature mushes our brains with, is it a spell? If I can deafen the beast, will it help? Or can you bolster my mind against it?"

Male Half-Orc Monk (Zen Archer) 5 / Fort. +4, Refl. +5, Will +7 / AC: 16, T: 16, FF: 14 / Init: +3 / (HP 28 of 28)

Completely mishearing Jakscar and not quite understanding how magic works, Jam chimes in with only the sage advice that a person completely naive to magic could have.

"Yeah! Excellent idea Jakscar! The creature was basically a spell. A magical trap to protect the room, right? So like Angelica disabling the door on the trap, do either of you have a way to disable magical traps? Can you expell the magic that is keeping this thing going?!"

As he says this, Jam, unknowing what to do follows Angelica's train of thought and aims his bow at the door. As he does so, slowly backing up to the far end of the room opposite the door.

AC:22,t:14,ff:18; f:6,r:7,w:0 (+1vs fear); Init:4; Per:9 Catfolk Fighter 5/Rogue (Rake) 1 (HP57/57)

"Right now Jam, I wish I knew how to do what you are suggesting. I was just thinking of the Thunderstones I have in my bandolier and backpack. But yeah Zaph, Shabbz, if there is anything, now would be a good time."

Female Grippli Diviner (Scroll Scholar) 6 / Fort +4, Ref +4, Will +7 / AC 17*, touch 13*, flat 15 (mage armor) / HP 40 of 40 / Init +9 / Perc +8 (darkvision 60 ft) / Status: none

@GM Bigrin:
-23 + 9 should be -14 hp, I believe, not 15, assuming Zaphomil's channel went through.

Jakscar, I'm pretty sure Shabbezz is still unconscious at negative hit points. Not to disrupt things, but should Zaph be unconscious as well?

HP: 5/42, AC 19 t:13 ff:17, f+7 r+3w+8(+2vs illusions, +2 vs transmutations) Perc +12, init +1 Gnome Cleric of Desna 6

No, I was at 2 positive hp thanks to a zero strength bonus and a roll of a 1 when my confused result was to hurt myself.

Channel: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 4) = 11

Zaph sends another burst of healing across the party.

To Jakscar and Jam, he shakes his head. "It's not a spell that I know of -- it just hurts your head to be around it. If it was fear, I could protect everyone, but right now I think I can only give one person some help against the effect."

I'm assuming protection from evil could help against the confusion effect. I could be wrong.

Female Grippli Diviner (Scroll Scholar) 6 / Fort +4, Ref +4, Will +7 / AC 17*, touch 13*, flat 15 (mage armor) / HP 40 of 40 / Init +9 / Perc +8 (darkvision 60 ft) / Status: none

My mistake then, Zaph. Carry on.

Shabbezz groans a bit as the majority of her wounds heal over beneath the wave of positive energy.

Now at -3 hp. Almost awake!

Male Half-Orc Monk (Zen Archer) 5 / Fort. +4, Refl. +5, Will +7 / AC: 16, T: 16, FF: 14 / Init: +3 / (HP 28 of 28)

I was trying to insinuate if the creature was a summon ritual, dispelling magic on the creature would end the summon magic and he would be sent back to his plane. I wasn't sure how you guys felt about metagaming or suggesting something another player might do. So that was the best way I could think of to try and convey it

AC:22,t:14,ff:18; f:6,r:7,w:0 (+1vs fear); Init:4; Per:9 Catfolk Fighter 5/Rogue (Rake) 1 (HP57/57)

Ah yes Shabbezz, sorry was posting quickly.

"Ah, damn. Swords and blades before the crazy here we go then. Spell me, shut the door behind me and run!"

Jakscar will ready himself to charge through the door and at the foul creature.

Female Changeling "Varisian" Burglar 4/Fighter 2 (AC: 20 [T: 14 /F: 16] (+2 vs Traps); HP: 49/49; F+4, R+7 (+2 vs traps), W+1 (+2 vs Illusions/Fear); Init: +3; Perc: +16 [+18/+20], 60' darkvision)

Angelica stops the discussion right off, "No, Whiskers, you're not just running in alone. You, hold the left door, I got the right. Jam, you stand behind the corner of the bed for cover. Zap, you and Shabbz get on top of the canopy. We are all separated, so we shouldn't hurt each other, and we can all hit at once as soon as it breaks through. Zap, you got any more of those floaty weapon spells? It worked well enough."

We all ready an action. Readies interrupt, so we will get them as soon as it busts through before we get affected.
- Jakscar, AO17, ready an attack
- Me, AO18, ready an attack
- We free 5' back to 16 and 19 respectively as it breaks through (AO or AP) depending on whether it gets in 5' or not.
- Jam, AS18, ready an attack, use the bedpost for partial cover.
- Shabbezz, AS16 (on canopy top if there is one), ready an attack spell (if you have any)
- Zap, AR17 (on canopy top), if there isn't a canopy, AR20 furthest away to keep channeling, ready a spiritual weapon (if you have any)

Shabbezz (you're fine, here's where you should be HP wise):
Round 3 - you were at 0
Round 4 - you were at -9, Zap channeled 8, you were at -1
Round 5 - you were at -1, Zap channeled 8, you were at 7
Round 6 - no change, Zap hit himself
Round 7 - you were at 7, Zap channeled 9, you were at 16
Round 8 - you were at 16, Zap channeled 11, you are at 27
DM Bigrin's -3 means you have 3 damage

Female Grippli Diviner (Scroll Scholar) 6 / Fort +4, Ref +4, Will +7 / AC 17*, touch 13*, flat 15 (mage armor) / HP 40 of 40 / Init +9 / Perc +8 (darkvision 60 ft) / Status: none

Really? Jeez, that's embarrassing; I totally misunderstood that. I apologize that you had to explain it for me.

"Right. You can count on me."

Shabbezz climbs her way into position. Once there, she snaps open her spell component pouch and hovers her hand over it like a gunslinger, eyes focused on the door.

Move to AS-16, on top of the canopy if it is present.

Male Half-Orc Monk (Zen Archer) 5 / Fort. +4, Refl. +5, Will +7 / AC: 16, T: 16, FF: 14 / Init: +3 / (HP 28 of 28)

Already having his bow and arrow trained on the door he sidesteps over to use the bed as cover preparing to send a flurry of arrows at the creature

Female Changeling "Varisian" Burglar 4/Fighter 2 (AC: 20 [T: 14 /F: 16] (+2 vs Traps); HP: 49/49; F+4, R+7 (+2 vs traps), W+1 (+2 vs Illusions/Fear); Init: +3; Perc: +16 [+18/+20], 60' darkvision)

Remember, readied actions have to be declared and specific beforehand, and they can only be up to a standard action (but you can still take a free, like a 5' step).

While bracing the door with her left shoulder, Angelica draws her shiny new rapier with her right hand. She nods once to let the group know she's ready.

Ready an attack as stated in the above plan.

AC:22,t:14,ff:18; f:6,r:7,w:0 (+1vs fear); Init:4; Per:9 Catfolk Fighter 5/Rogue (Rake) 1 (HP57/57)

"Ok, we can try, but apologies in advance if I start trying to slice your head off." Shrugging his shoulders as best he can whilst bracing a door, Jakscar readies himself to attack.

HP: 5/42, AC 19 t:13 ff:17, f+7 r+3w+8(+2vs illusions, +2 vs transmutations) Perc +12, init +1 Gnome Cleric of Desna 6

"Here," Zaph says, placing a hand on Jakscar's shoulder then invoking some magical spell. "I can only give Desna's protection to someone, so I'm choosing you. This ward helps fight off mind control, so hopefully it'll work here."

If there's time, I'll cast protection from evil.

Female Grippli Diviner (Scroll Scholar) 6 / Fort +4, Ref +4, Will +7 / AC 17*, touch 13*, flat 15 (mage armor) / HP 40 of 40 / Init +9 / Perc +8 (darkvision 60 ft) / Status: none

"I just need about five feet of clearance to hit it with lightning," Shabbezz says, one hand on the amulet around her neck.

I'm readying a lightning bolt spell using my bonded amulet.
