DM Barcas - Skull & Shackles: Freedom of the Sea (Inactive)

Game Master Isaac Duplechain

With pirates, slavers, and Cheliax prowling the seas, there are some who still appreciate - and fight for - the freedom of the sea.

I think that's a good plan, Doran.

Patch Patchsalt sleeps below deck with you all. She and Kipper have their cots set up near the stairs so that you'd have to basically go through them to get out of the hold.

I'm afraid I've forgotten what other part Ollivor is supposed to play in this

Kill 'em all! No, wait, that's not right.

I don't know that Ollivor had a specific role in this particular scene. But he could probably chat up Grok, Sandara Quinn, Rosie Cusswell or Samms Toppin if any of them are present at the fight. Though looking at the gameplay thread, I guess you already did that.

Pull up a bucket and watch the fight!

Generally to cause a ruckus.

Barcas! Are we going to get a post telling us whether Doran succeeded or not? I was very excited about all those good rolls I got, and am very curious how it all worked out.

Ollivor Myles wrote:

Befriend Gruk and Caulky Tarroon at some point, IIRC.

Male Clan Gangrel 12th Gen

Well, I've made my post to befriend Grok so I guess I'm doing my part after all.

Try not to bring any squabbles to the galley, I've got food to cook later ;)

So I got this crazy idea, but let me run it by you guys. What if we tried slipping some water and food to Kipper while he is in the box? It could potentially earn us another ally since, I know how hot tropical weather can get. Locked inside of a steel oven for seven days might very well kill the guy. This could be another situation where we save someone and earn their "trust" never mind we set the guy up in the first place. Thoughts?

That sounds like a great idea, John, why the hell not? Our goal is to stir things up and make allies, right?

I'm thinking Doran will also try to bluff Plugg into thinking that Krine was the one who really wanted the snuff box, and that it was easier for Kipper to steal it for her. Good to get Krine and Plugg really hating each other, eh?

I like the idea too,

Halfling Bard (Sea Singer) 2/Rogue (Knife Master) 3 | HP 34/34 | AC 20 | T 16 | FF 14 | CMD 16 | Fort +4 | Ref +12 | Will +7 (+2 vs fear, +4 vs. air and water effects, or being knocked prone) | Init +4 | Perc +12

Sorry to get ahead of the conversation between Wyn and Vrunyar about stuff we could slip to Kipper, just wanted to keep things moving along. If the gang comes up with something else Doran could usefully give to Kipper - especially something identifiable that we can talk to him about later, to make very clear who gave it to him - he can include it in his existing effort/rolls, or give it to him in the next day or two.

So, it's been a strange few days for me. I've been helping out on a cult murder from another state, but I should be free to post soon.

Wrap up the day! I am going to move us along to the next big piece, which will knock us forward a few days.

Barcas, based on your post above, I finished my "freeform" posting, assuming you were going to post again soon to move the plot along. Now it's been a couple days and we could have kept interacting---and I think all of us stopped posting mainly because you told us to wrap things up.

I dig you've got a challenging and important job and struggle to post regularly, but that's all the more reason our efforts to keep energy up and the roleplay going in your absence are important. With the inconsistent pace of this game, it is very hard otherwise to maintain interest, and indeed recently I've been trying to boost my posting and activity in lieu of drifting away entirely.

If you want to move us on, great, but then please actually move us on. If you're not ready yet, then please do not silence our efforts to keep your game alive when you are unable to find the time to post.

Thanks.

Sorry. Felt somewhat unfinished. I was also waiting in the hopes that John would post something after he got back.

I will get it up tonight.

I've been trying to post more, and have been happy to see Wyn doing the same, so we can keep things afloat, as it were.

Barcas - if you're waiting on one or more of us, or just waiting for something, it would be great if you could let us know. I recognize some PbPs move faster or slower than others, and that all of them slow down from time to time (sometimes mine seem to all slow down at the same time, a phenomenon I can't explain), but even a post saying something's coming, or that you need something from us before you'll move, would be very helpful.

I think this game has great characters and really awesome flavor and detail when it's moving along - so I'm looking forward to tonight's post.

I'm afraid I've kind of gotten a case of 'writer's block' with Ollivor. I'm not sure how else to make him helpful beyond the occasional diplomacy roll with an NPC (And even then, I'm not sure how much progress he's making) so I really should apologize for being kind of quiet lately.

No worries, that said I am looking forward to Barcas's scene advancement.

There will be loads of action coming up. Blood and violence!

Oh, by the way: if anyone wants to modify their character to take advantage of the new classes during the playtest, that is fine by me so long as the same general feel stays. (Wyn might move to Brawler class, for instance.)

What Doran said. Maybe a little more meta discussion is in order in general, not just GM but between players as well, to figure out some story opportunities. :)

And thanks for listening, Barcas. It is most appreciated.

I felt stuck for awhile precisely because Wyn Diplomacy ISN'T Wyn's bailiwick. Looks like we're going to be busy soon, but I was thinking if/when we have downtime again maybe Wyn and Ollivor could cook something up literally/figuratively -- you're a cook, she's a bar wench, they could figure out some way to entertain the crew or something. Might not be much to work with, but just a thought.

ETA, as was ninjaed by another GM Barcas post--wow! I somehow missed the playtest showing up! Well that's something.

Haven't looked at anything yet obviously, but I think I'll probably stick with what I've got for Wyn. Maybe I'll change my mind once I see things, but I really like the Cad archetype and have wanted to play with it for awhile; she's probably going to dip into rogue for some additional skills and dirty fighting oomph but I built Wyn specifically to be a Cad.

It is just me and the baby this weekend, so I should be pretty available to post a lot.

If Doran is concerned about killing innocents, it should hopefully be clear that these are slavers.

Right, thanks. I read your post last night, and just skimmed it before responding today. I've edited my post to make more sense.

Is Pathfinder getting new classes and having a playtest?

The Advanced Class Guide will introduce a bunch of 'hybrid' classes, that combine attributes of existing classes. There's an ongoing playtest, with announcements from time to time of new hybrid classes.

The playtest starts on Tuesday. The 10 classes will be available for download.

Arcanist
Bloodrager
Brawler
Hunter
Investigator
Shaman
Skald
Slayer
Swashbuckler
Warpriest

Working on a post now!

Props to John, Thorn, and Wyn for putting up the proper heading. I know it can be difficult, especially with a phone. At a minimum, please put the Round and Initiative at the top. If possible, I vastly prefer the current AC, hit points, and saves (as they are at the end of the round, in case they change). If you want to be complete, look at John's latest post for the most correct version: Header, Actions, Narrative.

So, has everyone taken a look at the Advanced Class Guide playtest?

Doran gets no love, even though I copied the format of my heading from John's post? Sheesh.

I've taken a quick look at the playtest - Swashbuckler is a class I've wanted for a long time, and I quite like what they've done with it so far.

Male Clan Gangrel 12th Gen

Sorry about my formatting, or lack there of.

As for the ACG, I'm just looking at it now. Like Doran, I'm probably most intrigued by the swashbuckler but I've never played a gunslinger so the 'grit like rules' for the deeds is totally new to me.

Whoops. I deleted one too many names. Doran too!

I'm giving the ACG a look. Like some of them (and I do like the brawler, though I am still not going to rebuild Wyn), others not very impressed by (I just see no point to the arcanist, and the hunter just feels like more-different ranger).

Male Clan Gangrel 12th Gen

Truth to tell, the Hunter is giving me a World of Warcraft feel. That's not BAD per se, but the talk of the 'aspects' and the like had me raising a brow

Thorn is supposed to post this evening. Vrunyar and Doran can post their Round 3 actions.

Halfling Bard (Sea Singer) 2/Rogue (Knife Master) 3 | HP 34/34 | AC 20 | T 16 | FF 14 | CMD 16 | Fort +4 | Ref +12 | Will +7 (+2 vs fear, +4 vs. air and water effects, or being knocked prone) | Init +4 | Perc +12

Barcas - is it possible to 5-foot step and get into a flanking position with any of the sailors? If not, is is possible to move more, using Acrobatics to avoid AoO, and get into flank?

You could 5' step to sailor #2 and flank with either Wyn or John. You get an additional +1 to hit and damage against him, actually, thanks to John's targeting ability.

#3-6 would require a move action to get to.

Male Elf Barbarian (Urban Barbarian) 2 / Fighter (Archer) 2 /Sorcerer (Wildblood=Sage Cross Blood=Aquatic) | HP 35/35 | AC:16 T:14 FL:12 | CMD 20 | F:+7 R:+4 W:+2 | Init +4 Perception:+8

Yep, I forgot to add in the +1 to Hit an Damage for point blank shot. I have a question, Does it count as a MA or SA to swap longbow for sword, or can I move and and swap weapons then attack or does the swapping of weapons count as the SA?

Pulling and stowing weapons are both move actions, effectively making it a full-round action. You could drop it on the ground as a free action and pull the sword as a move action.

Halfling Bard (Sea Singer) 2/Rogue (Knife Master) 3 | HP 34/34 | AC 20 | T 16 | FF 14 | CMD 16 | Fort +4 | Ref +12 | Will +7 (+2 vs fear, +4 vs. air and water effects, or being knocked prone) | Init +4 | Perc +12
DM Barcas wrote:

Awesome. Is it currently possible for Doran to move into a flanking position? (Recognizing things may change as we kill more of them) Will a 5-foot step do it, or will Doran need to make a move action?

It will take a move action to get to flanking #3-4. #5-6 have their backs to the stairs and aren't engaged with anyone in melee yet.

The Exchange

Male Elf Fighter 3

Wow, the wormwood is no joke! On other news I was brainstorm some names for when we get our own sip, what do guys think of "The Dauntless"? I also came up with "The Black Tide" and "The Crimson Eagle"

Male Clan Gangrel 12th Gen

I like the Crimson Eagle, since many of of us have ties to Andoran and they love their birds of prey :)
