About Thorn SyndergaardThorn Syndergaard
Thorn Syndergaard was born in the year of 4589 in the elven village of Arsmeril, a cliff-side village in the northwestern Mierani Forest, overlooking the Steaming Sea. Thorn was born on the same day that he was taken as a trophy by an Ulfen raiding party. Captain Kabev Sydergaard, a seasoned sailor, raider, and collector of wealth, led the raiding party. Among the Ulfen people, Kabev's wealth and nobility earned as much noteriety as his reputation as an adventurous and daring man who acted on a whim and showed no fear as he spat in the eye of death. The raid on Thorn’s village began as a challenge from his noble peers while attending a "high society" dinner party. His fellow noble’s doubted his true merit as a glorious raider and believed him to be past his prime, unable to conquer the stubborn elves of the Mierani Forest. Kabev, without hesitation, ordered his men and ships to set sail immediately. They aimed to defeat the stubborn and difficult elven defenses on the shores of the Mierani Forest. Kabev quickly sacked and plundered the village of Arsmeril, but not without losing several of his men in the landing to flurries of arrows. Kabev - knowing that he could not go back empty handed - took several elven weapons and a newborn baby elf. Upon returning to Halgrim, Kabev paraded through the city showing off his glorious loot and the crown jewel being his campaign, a living elf. Kabev named the elf “Thorn” for his similarity to a thorn, small and sharp, but he grew to like Thorn over the next couple of years and allowed him to be a companion for his only son, Haavard Syndergaard. Kabev taught his son everything he knew about sailing, fighting, and raiding. The whole time, Thorn watched from a distance and learned all he could. Kabev did not intend to teach Thorn the Ulfen ways, but found it to be a useful aid in training his son. Kabev used the elf as a training partner for Haavard realizing the superior quickness and agility the elf possessed. When Kabev died from natural causes, he left his fortune to his son Haavard, now twenty-five years old. He gave Thorn, twenty-four years old but still an adolescent by elven standards, the family name of Syndergaard and two of the elven weapons that he had kept all these years from his raid on Arsmeril - an elven composite bow and a curved elvish blade. Thorn attempted to train with the new weapons that had been gifted to him but soon he realized that he was not yet strong enough to pull back the bow string. He felt that both his natural heritage - that of an elf - and his adopted heritage - that of an Ulfen - were both beyond his reach. The gifts of his dual heritage granted him a stubborn pride, however, as he continued trying to master the weapons. Over the next thirty years, Thorn watched Haavard follow in their father's footsteps as he sailed and raided beyond the Land of the Linnorm Kings. Haavard married Gunnhild and had two children of his own: Stian, a son, and Anna, a daughter. During this time, Thorn trained with rangers in Halgrim to learn the way of the bow and of Erastil. Erastil teaches his followers to embrace traditional and simpler ways of life, free of the constraints of modern civilization. Thorn took to this new life style and felt at one with “Old Dead Eye” the hunter. Every day Thorn could feel himself getting stronger, and more proficient with long bows, even though he was still unable to pull back the string to his bow. Haavard gained notoriety among the Ulfen people of Halgrim, as his father had before him, for all of his successful raids and his collection of wealth. The Ulfen people were demanding a new king to take his rightful place on the throne of Halgrim. Haavard declared that he would meet the challenge and set out to find the ice linnorm, Frost Bite, in the Stormspear Mountains near the Crown of the World. Haavard set out on his journey at the age of fifty-five to conquer Frost Bite and gain the ultimate glory that his father never captured for the family Syndergaard. Haavard found Frost Bite and locked steel to claws for hours of grueling combat until Haavard met his untimely end. Haavard's frozen body was carried back to Halgrim when it was discovered months later. Stian received his father's body and gave him a proper burial celebration, setting him and their fastest ship ablaze so that he could join his father. Stian took over the family fortune and had his sister Anna married off to a nobleman. Thorn, feeling the loss of his brother Haavard, became angry and built up a great rage in his heart. Thorn promised to revenge his brother’s death and deliver the head of Frost Bite to the people of Halgrim in his brother name. Thorn became lost in training over the next several years to become stronger, faster and more accurate with his shots. Thorn lost track of time, his brother’s family, and all who mattered to him all the while directing all his rage inward. Fifty years passed without Thorn's attention. In 4693, a young man b

Thorn became lost in training over the next several years to become stronger, faster and more accurate with his shots. Thorn lost track of time, his brother’s family, and all who mattered to him all the while directing all his rage inward. Fifty years passed without Thorn's attention. In 4693, a young man by the name of Espen Syndergaard approached him and introduced himself as his grandnephew. Espen had come to seek him out to bring him to his father's death bed. Stian gave his family fortune to Espen and asked Thorn to watch over Espen and train him in the ways of his father and his father’s father. Thorn - then almost a man by elven standards, but old enough to see his father, brother, and now nephew die - agreed to train Espen and watch over him. In 4704, Estrid the White laid claim to the throne of Halgrim by defeating and taming the ice linnorm Boiltongue. She sealed her fame and fortune with her declaration that she would break the Chelish blockade at the Arch of Aroden. Espen, despite being a new husband and father, insisted on joining the raid. Thorn followed to protect his great-nephew in their family's longboat. During the trip, Thorn found an opportunity to ask Boiltongue about Frost Bite and his unfinished business, only to find that Boiltongue would tell him little. Estrid's fleet first raided Nisroch, the capital of Nidal, and sailed to meet the Chelish fleet at the Arch of Aroden. The stories of the battle and of Estrid's success echoed across the Inner Sea, but it was not without cost. The Syndergaard ship attacked a Chelish frigate, the flagship Hellsmouth, during the battle and boarded it. The Ulfen raiders fought valiantly, nearly taking the ship entirely, only to find that one of the Asmodean priests had summoned a terrible devil. The terrible creature, a fallen angel with black wings and a cruel smirk, cut through the family's raiders. She snatched Espen up with a magical rope and flew him high into the air, dropping him to his death on the deck of the Hellsmouth. Thorn found himself despairing as another member of his family died before him, and fought in a rage until he was knocked unconscious. He expected to awaken in Valhalla, but the servants of Hell had other plans. He awoke, shackled and lashed, as a prisoner sentenced to a lifetime on the ship's oars. His rage and stubborn focus grew as the other slaves died around him. One day, he would escape the Hellsmouth and regain his freedom. When he does, he vows that he will hunt down every creature and man who wronged his family - Frost Bite, the fallen angel, and the whole of the Chelish navy. His elven heritage gives him ample time to wait... Physical Description:
