What do we do with them now?

The vampire spawn fail to return to their coffins due to them being destroyed and spilling out dirt over the floor. In the dirt of each coffins are three leather pouches which hold a combined 300 gp and 15 pp, all of Ustalavic minting, a ring of jumping sculpted to look like intertwined brass spider legs, and a set of bone pipes of haunting.

Nature DC 15:

This is dirt from Ustalav.

Added to group loot spoiler for the next split.

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22

The dirt originates from Ustalav... I can feel it...

I guess? Not really sure HOW Curnach knows that.

Err...soil content and consistancy with the the region and the dark stuff that's gone on there? Eitherway, their accents should've given that away too.

Seeing as the coffins have been destroyed and the creatures need to return to their coffins (can't venture out into sunlight) then the only way they could survive would be if there were extra coffins nearby with Ustalavian soil in them, but since the vapour is now dissappearing you can safely assume they're destroyed.

As I said in a previous post you've found keys on the guy's body and the door leading into the main shop is locked. I assume you guys will investigate?

Krenn will take the keys and head over to the door. He'll make sure he gets a nod from each of the others before he puts the key in and tries to open it. If any of the others are closer than 5 or 10', he'll give them a gruff nod to indicate they should step back a bit.

I assume the others are okey with "The Cork" blocking the way if there was something there.

You find the key with little trouble as there are only a few on this ring and the door opens with a loud and slow creek, letting the dust shift once again. Inside you see the shop front filled with unbalanced stuffed animals, poorly equipped toy soldiers and dolls exhibiting myriad accidental deformities and stare blankly out the front window of this toy store's showroom.

Several heavy-looking kites dangle purple and crimson tails from the ceiling above and a dollhouse recreating Castle Korvosa's intimidating towers dominates a table in the room's centre.

Fastooned with tiny bells, the shop's entrance standsin the north, access from a counter cluttered with dusy candies and the door you just came from maked "private". It's very clear this man was no good at making toys and you have to wonder why he decided to take this career.

DM:

Krenn's Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Curnach's Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15 Auto success no matter what is rolled

Krenn doesn't notice anything else of interest in this room, however Curnach's super perceptive eyes instantly notice a lockbox behind the counter. As it's picked up it jingled pathetically and when using the keys found and opening the box inside is the following:

a silver tooth (worth 1 gp)
a brass key shaped like the symbol of Abadar bearing the number 261.
money: 2 gp, 8 sp, 22 cp.

Knowledge Religion DC 16:

The key belongs to a private deposit box at the Abadarian Temple. Simply bring this key to the temple, to one of it's accolites and they will bring the deposit box for you to open. This is a secure way to pass down or hand over a large sum of money to family members or friends if afraid of being mugged. Thieves use these as a way to hide ill-gotten gains since what is inside the deposit box is never recorded or investigated. No ID is required either meaning anyone can collect as long as they have the key and it is genuine, like this is.

Male Human Wizard (FC) 13 - Enchanter

Curnach or myself can't fail that DC so we would share the spoiler with the rest of the group and then proceed to the temple to open the lock box.
You want to check out this Vendra next who says she has a cure for the plague? I believe I can lead us right to her shop.

HP 133/133, AC 26/14/23 CMD 22, F +13, R +10, W +17, P +22, In +11

Yes... Let's go to the temple first then check out the 'cure'. I am sceptical, but you never know.

I think we should check out the key first. Krenn seems antsy as he says this, eager and nervous at the same time. But if the rest of you think we should follow up with Vendra first, I will of course go with you.

Edit: With Jerin and Curnach both agreeing on Vendra, Krenn, somewhat downcast, will say Then we should go now. Especially since I'm still covered in filth from moving those bodies and ash from, well, you know.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard / 6

"I'll go report our findings to Commader Croft first and then meet you at the temple. Once you get there, see if there is anything they can do for Krenn, just in case. From the temple we can go check out this new 'miracle cure'."

Master of Gaming and Grognardia Current map

At the grand temple you notice that there are far more people who are begging to be let in, but are being kept out due to not having the resources.

The same is about to face the group, however presenting the key allows you to enter and once shown to a accolite he heads down to the vault with the key to remember the number.

These halls appear quiet, only with the sounds of caughing and spluttering from many of the temple's accolites have contracted the illness, but some many appear to have been cured of the blood veil.

Returning with the box the man hands over the box to you on the table and giving you the key to open the box and steps aside, letting you all access the box.

Inside you find the following:

68 gp

a set of masterwork thieves tools

a pair of boots of striding and springing

and finally a sheaf of papers detailing the creation of dozens of poorly designed toys.

"Is there anything else you require, sirs?" the accolite asks as he looks curiously at you all.

At the citadel, the Field Marshall thanks Arianna.
"This was very disturbing news you brought me miss Rothschild. We will be enforcing that route and punish the ones who have been dumping dead bodies in that alley. You have my thanks for helping this city once again. Please, send my thanks to the rest of your group." she paises for a moment to look around the office carefully. "On that other matter, I have one of my men tracking the doctor. He dissappears from time to time into the city, but always returns. I do not yet know where we goes, but I have a feeling I will soon know and once I do I will be sure to inform you all once I know. You are the protectors of Korvosa and we are lucky to have such courage here."

As you leave, you notice the docter returning with a few of his physicians. The assistants appear to be making silent hand gestures to each other, communicating in some unknown sign language.

Yes, my nephew lodges here due to unusual circumstances. Could I trouble you to take down a message for him and deliver it? And let me know if he has a reply?

Krenn keeps a good ten feet or more from the acolyte, trying to minimize the chance of spreading anything. He'll ask him to write the note asking if his nephew is okay, if he needs money or anything else. If the acolyte is willing, Krenn will have him write the note (so Krenn doesn't have to handle it), emphasize that Krenn cannot meet personally with the boy right now, and wait for any answer.

If it is appropriate, Krenn is willing to pay a fee (or temple donation) for the acolyte's service.

I thought it was a different temple? There are other temple in Korvosa being a large city and I don't think it was to Abadar. Also, did Krenn try to contact his nephew's parents to come pick him up?

Things calmed down considerbly after the Rolth's lab incident as there was a entire month to calm down before the boat arrived and then you were able to lead Sabina Merrin out of the city so the city would still be letting people in so we could say he's safely outside the city and back with his parents, far away from this horrible plague.

Meanwhile back at the Citadel:

After meeting with the Commander, Arianna will seek out Ishani. If she can find him she will approach him and ask for a favor. "Banker Ishani, I have a favor to ask of you. The owner of the Three Rings tavern has come down with the Blood Veil and I would ask of you if you or one of the other priests would pay her a visit and cure her as soon as possible. She means a great deal my companion, Krenn, and he has seemed distracted by her illness. If you could do me this kindness I will gladly pay the Temple twice the current donation." So saying she hands the priest 300 gp's. "As soon as I leave here I'm going to rejoin my friends and we will investigate this woman and her supposed 'miracle' cure you have told us about."

"I have been speaking with the guards and they have told me of your group's exploits before I met you all and what you have done averting a wererat attack from the sewers which could've claimed the lives of many innocents. I am glad to have come across such great heroes whom I will tell my children and grand-children that I have met the legendary heroes of Korvosa." and with that he leaves, heading off to the Three Rings you can assume by the direction he takes.

Arianna rejoins the group after her dealings back at the citadel. The accolites let her in as they recognise her as a member of the group and allow her to meet with the group who had just emptied the deposit box.

Could always put something inside for safe keeping now that you have this key. You still have the Purfumery to investigate for Ishani if you're wondering what you might want to do next.

Yep I believe that was our next move.

If Vendra has been selling for any time, we should ask around her neighborhood to see if anyone has been healed by her wares.

Arianna rejoins the group at the temple upon her return from the citadel. Listening to Jerin, she proposes another idea. "Why don't we go see what all the hubbub is about"

Master of Gaming and Grognardia Current map

Arriving at this part of town you find that there is a line going from the counter out of the door. People appear to be buying up this lotion, many showing obvious signs of the plague whilst others you can assume are buying for family and friends.

There are bodyguards nerby who look like the rough sort of men to deal with, armed with a sap and chainmail armour as they scan the crowd suspeciously and waiting for trouble.

Jerin and Arianna are asking about the crowd and though Jerin doesn't get far, Arianna find a poor woman, riddled with the diseas and claiming that she had bought some of Vendra's "Lavender’s Luxuriant Liniment" but it didn't do anything only make her skin has a healthier sheen for about a week, but the illness still haggered her.

Vendra Loaggri

Curnach notices that there is a man brosing the store and he is the only one in the entire store who is browsing and not simply lineing up for more of this miraical ointment.

Arianna looks at the line of people standing in front of the shop and says "If we try anything now we could start a riot, maybe we need to wait until later to investigate." Once Arianna finds the old woman in line a plan begins to form in her head "Madame, would you purchase a vial of this elixir for me as well as for yourself" she says, handing over some gold coins "Once you are done can you meet me over here?"
How much does the elixir sell for? Arianna will give the old woman enough to cover the purchase of two vials along with a gold piece 'tip'.

Once she and Jerin rejoin the others Arianna explains "Once we have the samples, we can 'escort'the old woman to the Citadel or the Temple of Abadar and have her use one of the vials while we have someone analyze the other vial to see what it is made of. I'm afraid if we show our faces in the store someone might recognize us, and tip our hand too soon."

2 gp per dose, reason why so many people are going is it's so cheap compared to a potion of remove disease.

I suppose it is a btter plan than the one I was thinking, go invisible then charm Vendra to convince her to tell me what is going on with her "cure". Sounds to me like it is to good to be true and we already have one witness who can swear to it not working. but lets check it out to be sure and then we can arrest her and her men away from the poor masses gathered here.

"Recognise you for who, dear?" the woman doesn't seem to know what you're refering too. "I will buy a few. She's already sold them to me and she won't have any qualms selling more." she caughs, casting a leering eye at the woman selling this ointment and smiling as she continues to make sales. Detect Magic on the vials...assumes they are not magical...

You can't find any obvious ability to heal anyone. This looks like a simple vial of smelly perfume, but having some skill in craft alchemy would tell you what it's made of.

@Krenn: The guards have lost interest and just focus on the crowds. No one else appears to be paying any attenntion to the group whilst you are all talking and more focused on what going inside where the owner of the store is advertising her ointment. The sign outside actually says: “Lavender’s Luxuriant Liniment: Either You’ve Got It, or You’ve Had It.”

@Jerin: neither of them show any sign of magic. As you stated, you could find the content if you used alchemy lab or were a alchemist of somekind.

We have 2 of them right?
Jerin will take one to an alchemist while Arianna takes the other per her plan. We can meet up at the Citidel later that day. Jerin will pay for a rush order to analyze it. Let me know how much the alchemist charges.

The alchemist finds this as a bit of an odd request and takes a guess at a price and charges 12gp and 5sp.

After some time he hands back the vial giving it a odd look.
"This is just rubbish. It's made of sugar, cheap perfume and river water. If anything this still will make you smell nice and give you a sticky skin." he explains as he looks over it and back at Jerin "Where did you get this?"

Ishani steps forward to analyse the so called mirical ointment and comes to the same conclusion, only with a obvious look of disgust upon his face.
"And this is what she's selling? This is stealing money from the masses! This is false hope. This is...is...words can't express my rage!" he gets angry as he leers at this bottle, but then closes his eyes and takes a few deep breaths to calm himself. "You need to stop her selling this trash. Innocent people will be buying this to cure their condition, but will gain nothing from this."

Curnach:

You're wise and perceptive enough to notice this but native Varisians appear untouched by the disease. All other races and varients of those races have one way or another been infected by the disease which makes it strange that native varisian's havn't been infected.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard / 6

If the old lady came with us to the Citadel, then Arianna wil pay for Ishani to cast a Remove Disease on her. If not, then she's saved some money.

"That's about what I expected." she says to Ishani.

Later Arianna will report their findings to Commander Croft "With your permission, as the guards are spread thin enough already, we will arrest this charlatan and bring her here for you to deal with."

Male Human Wizard (FC) 13 - Enchanter

When Jerin arrives at the Citadel he informs the group of his findings.
Agreed, this women is stealing from the people of Korvosa selling this "cure". We should probably wait until they close down though so we don't start a riot trying to arrest her. If she resists she will be very sorry... as Jerin's hand wonders to his wand (of lightning bolts to be clear)...

And then will we be facing a riot when we shut this place down, and the people going there no longer have any hope against this plague? Can we provide any sort of hope or alternative for them?

Krenn, I had thought about what you were saying...unfortunately we are just 4 individuals with no power to cure the disease.
Curnach can help a few but I think we would be better served trying to get to the bottom of the disease. The doctor is involved and may know something of how to cure it if he was involved with it coming to Korvosa. Maybe we should start with him after we rid ourselves of this crook? I have no issues with kidnapping him and charming him into telling us what he is up to...this has gone too far.

After Curnach tells the group of his observations, Maybe that is part of the key to a cure. If Varisians are somehow immune, there must be a way to resist or cure the disease other than through powerful magic. Now we should really talk to the "good" doctor...

I think we are sticking with the original plan of visiting Vendra after her shop closes, maybe watching from a distance as it closes down to make sure we can follow her back to her "lair" :)and then arrest her.

EDIT: One thing I did think about was at least we can try to give the people back their money if she still has it.

Female Human (Varisian) Bard / 6

It's a nice thought, Jerin. But I'm sure there is no way to know who paid for the bogus cure in the first place. I doubt she kept records of sale or gave reciepts to those she bilked.

Master of Gaming and Grognardia Current map

Returning to the shop later that night you notice a single guard waiting outside as Vendra cleans up. You just manage to notice the guard coffing and showing signs of blood veil and she takes out a wand which appears to remove any signs of the disease on the guard.

She moves back to the side door and dissappears from view whilst the guard, dressed in a purple cravat and discretely holding a weapon, which is seen as a sap as he wipes away the sleep.
