Nover, your infamy bonus is 2, so you get 2 special items from acquisitions, each with a total modifier of -10. So the Best craftsmanship Flamer, and then a Legion Meltagun if you want (yes, you do qualify for it - see below).
Legion Meltagun: starts as extremely rare (-30), but Ancient Warrior reduces it to very rare (-20), then for Amount: Single it is reduced by a further 10, making it a -10.
Legion Flamer: starts as scarce (0), Ancient Warrior reduces it to average (+10), Amount: Single increases it another 10 (+20), Best Craftsmanship reduces it by 20 (0), and you still have space for an upgrade to it. Maybe our GM will give you a couple cans of High Grade Promethium to use it up.

Ammo section of Black Crusade: CRB offers the rule of 3 - simply stating that you can start with three loads of ammo for a weapon. Now, depending on how long we are planetside, that could become an issue. But as we are being dispatched by Abaddon himself, perhaps we can get a boost of ammo.
Taalik Amun |
Did anyone else create a human heretic as well? If so, how are we going to get them involved? Are they being deployed with us, or will they be recruited on planet? Just want to know if/when I should introduce Wraxus.
Nover Romux |
Well, I have been working on a Heretek that specializes in weapons mongering. In theory he could start a black market for weapons that either he builds or acquires through other trades. Possibly setting gangs or rival groups against each other. I don't know enough about the warhammer universe to make an apostate, although I could build a renegade.
Taalik Amun |
A couple pieces of rare gear Taalik-Amun will have tried to acquire on the battleship prior to be dispatched planetside.
Refractor Field: Infamy(24), Very Rare (-20), Single (+10) = 14: 1d100 ⇒ 70
Melta Bomb: Infamy(24), Very Rare (-20), Single (+10) = 14: 1d100 ⇒ 36
Legion Plasma Pistol: Infamy(24), Very Rare (-20), Single (+10) = 14: 1d100 ⇒ 13
I will take 1 out of 3, though the refractor field probably would've been the best for survivalibity.
How many clips of ammo do we start with? Are things like frag & krak grenades readily available?
Nover Romux |
I think I'll be good with just the flamethrower, maybe a few grenades and a shotgun.
Legion Frag Grenade - Infamy 25 + Average 10 + 0 (2-4) Infamy: 1d100 ⇒ 88 So no grenades for me, nobody wants to trade with an Iron Warrior
Legion Shotgun: Infamy + Plentiful 25 + Single Item 10 Infamy: 1d100 ⇒ 23 Huzzah, I probably could have scraped by for a best quality, but regardless it will never break on me as it is reliable and a scatter weapon
Da GM |
I will have to say yes to Frag grenades being readily available as they're easy to find off of dead Imperial Guardsman.
You may roll for up to 5 pieces of additional gear to bring with you. Same modifiers apply and you can only get items -10 or above. Taalik you have rolled for 3 already I see. Nover you roll only once, because the grenades are available for free. I actually would like to revise what I said before about the flamethrower. If you could go ahead and roll for that as well.
Alright so you have 5 slots to fill before this mission. So say you really really want this weapon but its modifier turns out to be -20 at the end. You can simply expend another slot to increase the modifier by -10.
So for that one weapon you would have used two slots but had an increased chance of getting it. There is no limit on the amount of slots you can expend to get a single piece of wargear. Just no even if you fail the roll to get something, you still used up a slot
I'll answer any questions if I was unclear about this
Taalik Amun |
Based on his Infamy, Nover should get 2 items at up to -10 each automatically (no roll) as part of his character creation. So he could get the flamer and something else with those two, then still have 4 rolls left to attempt.
Would scavenged grenades then be human grenades rather than legion grenades for statistical effects (damage)?

Okay, the rest of my acquisition rolls for both characters.
Remaining Acquisition Rolls for Taalik-Amun:
legion frag grenades: Infamy(24), scarce(0), ancient warrior(+10), minor amount (+10)=34: 1d100 ⇒ 99
psy-focus: Infamy(24), average(+10), single(+10)=44: 1d100 ⇒ 33
Acquisition Rolls for Wraxus Drake:
photo-visor: Infamy(22), scarce(0), single(+10)=32: 1d100 ⇒ 27
stub automatic(armsman-10): Infamy(22), average(+10), single(+10)=42: 1d100 ⇒ 35
comm leach: Infamy(22), very rare(-20), single(+10)=14: 1d100 ⇒ 5
cameleoline cloak: Infamy(22), rare(-10), single(+10)=24: 1d100 ⇒ 20
combi-tool: Infamy(22), rare(-10),single(+10)=22: 1d100 ⇒ 15
Nover Romux |
I can think of a lot of gear I want, but the only gear I think I might really need would be a shield. Let's see if I can get one. I'm using 2 rolls for it because I want that +25% to parry, and one longshot for a best quality data slate.
Infamy for Best Quality Shield: 1d100 ⇒ 36 So 25+10 (my extra rerolls)+10 (single item). DC 45
Infamy for Data Slate: 1d100 ⇒ 31 So 25+10 (Single Item)+20 Common - 20 Quality. DC 35
Okay so I have a very nice shield, and of course a very nice data slate which will be used for developing strategies. I wonder what might have been left on it.
Baelir |
Sorry, my heretek is up and will be running a few, I just need to make my first post in gameplay and I'll be fine.
Starting Infamy: 1d5 + 19 ⇒ (3) + 19 = 22
Starting Acquisitions from infamy: Guard Flak Armor, Mechanicus Assimilation 1.
EDIT: Didn't realize I started with light carapace armor, I will change my Guard Flak Armor to a Carapace Helm.
Baelir |
Acquisition rolls
Infamy for a Disguise Kit: 1d100 ⇒ 84 No
4 Infamy for 1000 Shotguns: 1d100 ⇒ 924 + 4 rolls into one for +30% +30 % plentiful - 40 for Legions worth. I have enough to start a lot of gang wars on Rheelas with this.
Baelir |
Oh no, that was me, figured we could go back for them later or steal a truck. I mean I have nothing else I really really want other than various amounts of trade goods. Baelir's pride is wealth, and material objects are a large part of it. Unless the Imperium has some form of currency I could use instead.

So before I asked about taking the trade armourer but didn't get a reply...Been doing more reading so I've got a few questions and suggestions.
I'm just getting into space marine literature trying to come up with my back story and I want to be from the Salamander Chapter with your approval. I know that'll alter my appearance some and I'll take that into account if need be. Also, it goes well with Path choices like Craftsmanship and Greed, got some good ideas for the story. Not sure if you know of them...but I'm sure you do, then you'll know their forgery background and trials etc. I'm wondering about replacing my knife with the "Forge Hammer" which I read about Salamanders doing in the "Index Astratas Vol. 1" pdf (if you don't have that I'll send it to you..)Not sure if I need to say more, you might already know this stuff...It's all new to me :)If other things are applicable to Chaos Space marines from that Index let me know, but it seemed like things for another game...Good read though, learned about the Iron Hands, which is the chapter of the other marine in our party I believe.
Basically Salamanders carry forge hammers instead of knives, not really more powerful, (1d10, Pen 4 I think..you could alter)but gives +10 to crafting, repairing, etc. I plan to take the armour monger eventually and habitually be tweaking and maintaining armour and weapons, like the scavenged noise blaster. Pursuing my path of craftsmanship, greed, and my Salamander roots. My purpose is hoarding, building, modding, etc. Perhaps I'm exceptional or just adequate at it. Up to you.
Short background intro, just some thoughts, let me know if its ok, and I'll flush out more details:
As a young boy in the Salamander chapter, we were taught from the age of 6 to build and maintain weapons, I became a great soldier among the ranks, but my greed got the best of me. Additionally I wanted to learn more about xeno tech and archeotech and maybe that didn't sit well, heretical crafting, obsessed with tech outside the chapter and Adaptus Mechanicus... I left or was banished? Something to do with my greed, perhaps in pursuit of something, or left b/c I refused to give something up.. Not sure about Marines and how they do things. Yet.
As a final thought on the remainder 400xp:
As Im reading, it seems tech-use skill is what's ued for crafting, maybe I don't need armourer trade? But then there's the prerequisite and I read through the errata and theres a mention about this dilemma and Armour monger..I still can't find a purchase for it...IF it were 100xp for example, then I'd buy Armour Monger for 300xp, if that's not possible or buying the trade is more expensive, then I'll probably just use the XP for Tech-use +20 at 400xp. Up to you. Maybe I don't even need the trade...

BTW, I know this came up in the recruitment thread, thats where I brought it up. You said that you believe Tech Use is only Repair, but from what i read on Pg. 94 of Crafting, You can use Chem, Survival, or Tech-Use.
From page 94.
Tech-Use:This Skill allows a character to create complex or technical devices such as those commonly created within the
forges of Imperial worlds. With the GM’s permission any weapon, armour, explosive or piece of tech can be created using this
Skill. However, unlike Survival and Chem-Use, many items created using this Skill are fiendishly complex or their design a
closely guarded secret and are only available to character with the right knowledge and access to advanced workshops
You said I wouldn't need to purchase the trade in recruitment thread, but that means I couldn't ever get possibly craft and/or buy Armour Monger. That's ok, maybe its only meant for the Heretek or something...If that's the case, just let me know and I'll drop it.
I know the salamander has some unique armor and mantles etc, in my background I lost those or they were destroyed, I had to rebuild my current armor from scratch...Maybe lost my forge hammer too, could be something I'm looking for or trying to construct in the future if I can't switchout my knife now.

Well sir, I am terribly sorry to hear that. I hope you are safe and all your family is well. Hopefully it is just work getting busy.
To those other players, I might be willing to run a 40k game. I have the most experience with Dark Heresy, though also have the rulebooks for Black Crusade/Deathwatch/Only War/Rogue Trader. I would likely run an updated DH, with some of the newer rules from the other games to tighten it up a bit.
Thoughts? Interest?
