Well, you've fallen into a pile of pillows. How you smell when you get out of it remains to be seen, - er nosed, smelled anyway.

Anton throws the end of his coil of rope down to Marguerite.

Marguerite tucks a pillow into her pack, looks briefly around the pit to see what the walls are made of, then ties a few knots in the rope to give herself hand holds, and climbs up the rope.

"Thanks, that's what I get for not paying attention."

She carefully coils the rope and hands it back to Anton.
"Let's leave those knots. We'll probably need them again. Pits to the right of us, pits to the left of us. What's this switch for, I wonder?

"Lift that torch a bit higher, Anton, let's see what we have here."
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22


:: Exploring ::

Marguerite easily climbs out of the pit. Investigating the switch gives little information. However, above the switch is a small image in the shape of a gate.

Marguerite examines the image closely

Anton looks at the switch & the image above it.

That image would seem to indicate that the switch opens, or closes a gate somewhere.


A close examination of the image reveals little else. It appears to be a gate.

Marguerite flips the switch to the other position

Listens intently.

Hear anything? Like, maybe the sound of a gate opening or closing somewhere?


From further down the hallway you hear a grinding noise.

I added an arrow to indicate the direction the noise is coming from.

Ok, let's jump this pit and go that direction
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
I'm having trouble moving Marguerite's token on the map, but she essentially moves in the direction of the arrow, jumps the pit to the other side, and moves to let Anton jump as well

Marguerite looks all directions down the corridor, trying to locate the gate.


Jumping over the pit, you see a gate immediately to your right. There is a single thick vertical metal bar securing it shut. As you watch, another bar slowly descends to hold the gate in place as well.

Marguerite tries to see past the gate and down the corridor. She sniffs the air for strange odors as well.

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
"Looks like we need to flip that switch the other way. Or maybe not. Whatever is behind that gate isn't going to get out very soon.

Unless "whatever" was already loose when the gate closed.

The two of you search around the room you are in. It is a maze of corridors and hallways, with a few dead ends. You manage to avoid numerous pit traps, all filled with pillows, and find a second lever with a gate image above it.
