Frankie - first off, the Shooting (d12) die roll and the Wild (d6) die roll aren't added together, you take the better of the two. So you rolled a 22.
Also, the extra damage you get from a Raise on your Shooting is always only a *single* d6, no matter how many total Raises you got (the phrase to remember is "on one or more Raises").
I'll let EltonJ sort out your actual rolls...

I'll just assume Frankie has the drop on the spider.

Quick as any Juicer, Frankie opens up on the spider.

TX-26 Semi-Auto: 1d12 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 1 + 4 = 17
Wild die: 1d6 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 4 = 11
Dmg: 2d8 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (8, 6) + 4 + 4 = 22
Ace: 1d12 ⇒ 6
Ace on the Wild die: 1d6 ⇒ 2

That's 36 to hit, I think? So 8 Raises?

[dice=Raise bonus damage]8d6

TX-22 Semi-Auto: 1d12 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 2 + 4 = 17
Wild die: 1d6 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 4 = 11
Dmg: 2d6 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (2, 2) + 1 + 4 = 9
Ace on the Wild die: 1d6 ⇒ 4

32 to hit, so 7 Raises.

[dice=Raise bonus damage]7d6

45 damage from the right hand and 37 from the left.

I'm backing up Kara on this one. You don't add your wild dice with your attack dice together. So you don't get a "free" raise. However, you do get an Ace on both your rolls from the right. Depending on which is better, and your skill roll is better. So you rolled only a 17. It's better than your six, since you rolled a twelve. You get an ace on your attack dice, which results in a six. So your total roll to hit is 17+6 = 23.

Your total to hit is 23. You still do 22 damage. Let me check something: Every 4 points over the Target Number is called a “raise.” The Spider's toughness is 4. So you get 4 raises from that attack.

On your second attack, you got an eleven, which is better than a 6 on your wild die, but your ace on your die gets you a 4, which is ten, so the result of eleven is the best. You get 17, so you get 3 raises from your second attack.

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

The spider rolls athletics to jump out of range.

athletics roll: 1d10 ⇒ 8
wild die: 1d6 ⇒ 4

The Spider avoids Kara's attack. It simply avoids Malachi's attack. Beorn's maul was very effective. As for Frankie's attack, it couldn't avoid it.

Frankie, did you check if you did Mega(aggravated)damage?

ROUND ONE OVER!

ROUND 2 BEGINS!

Female Human Parry 8(9) / RATN 4(6) / Toughness 15(6) / 3 Bennies

EltonJ - if the spider's Toughness is 4, then Frankie's first shot did 4 *Wounds* (with damage, a Raise equals a Wound), and his second shot did 3 *Wounds*. Most NPC monsters die after taking 1 Wound, and even a powerful monster dies after taking 4 or more Wounds. So this spider is way past dead.

Quickflex Gunslinger

Appreciate the clarification with this new-to-me system.

GM, neither of Frankie's pistols are listed as MD weapons.

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

Gotcha both. (Sigh)

Okay, I'll adjust the toughness for the monsters in future encounters.

Female Human Parry 8(9) / RATN 4(6) / Toughness 15(6) / 3 Bennies

EltonJ?

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

Hi.

Everyone, the road is clear. You can continue to Cil Onchon. I'll have an encounter ready for you when you return back.

Female Human Techno-Wizard (Novice) | Bennies Spent: 1

"Anyone know any good games we can play as we walk?"

Quickflex Gunslinger

Frank grunts. "How about 'watch the trees so we don't get ambushed'? That's a good one." Apparently the gunslinger doesn't believe in fun roadtrips.

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

You see your destination.

Two elves also see you. One of them speaks into a magic device. "Are you bringing the grain?" Although far off, you can hear them.

Female Human Parry 8(9) / RATN 4(6) / Toughness 15(6) / 3 Bennies

Kara says in a normal voice (assuming the magic device works both ways) "Yes, we have 200 pounds of rice for the Pihlaja Granary - can you take us there?"

Quickflex Gunslinger

Frank just sits his horse quietly while they talk, checking the trees for more guards.

If Agate's translator gadget only works for the gargoyle's language but not the elves', she makes a second translator for the language of the elves.

Techno-Wizardry: 1d10 ⇒ 4
Wild: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Wild, ace: 1d6 ⇒ 2
With a raise, the translator is also capable of handling slang and dialect differences.

She gets 5 uses of her techno-gadget ability per game session. She has used it 3 times. Let us know when we are starting a new session for the purposes of such refreshes.

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

We will start a new session, Agate, after this encounter.

The elves switch to American. "Yes, we can take you there," says the elf. He speaks in elvish. "Everyone, they are here. Come with us."

Female Human Parry 8(9) / RATN 4(6) / Toughness 15(6) / 3 Bennies

"So, do you work for Pihlaja Granary?"

I'm looking to see if he tells the truth. The most common way I've found on the web to do this is that the person who answers makes either a Persuasion or Performance roll, and I make an Opposed Notice roll...

Ah, okay.

Quickflex Gunslinger

I mean, couldn't he work for them and be lying about not?

Frankie tunes his translator so he can listen to the elves if they start talking in elvish again.

Female Human Techno-Wizard (Novice) | Bennies Spent: 1

Agate suggests Malachi and Björn remain behind for the meet with the elves.

Frankie has a point.

"So, we've been waiting for a while," says the elf in American. "We've a banquet prepared for you."

Female Human Parry 8(9) / RATN 4(6) / Toughness 15(6) / 3 Bennies

I was worried that he might be from a rival company trying to intercept the shipment or something. In which case, he would have probably said 'yes'. But...

So she can't tell one way or the other anyway.

"Well - thanks, but...why? We're just doing a job and delivering a package."

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

"We've been waiting for this package for weeks now," said the elf. "No one but you delivered it."

Female Human Techno-Wizard (Novice) | Bennies Spent: 1

"We hope it helps."

What time of day is it? Could we realistically leave and start heading back or would we be thinking about sleeping here?

Female Human Techno-Wizard (Novice) | Bennies Spent: 1

Agate would like some time to spend with the elves. We should also see if there is any job we could do for the elves, perhaps something trade related that would take us back to New Salt Lake. That way we could make money for both legs of the trip.

I can't find anything about elves in the two SW RIFTS sourcebooks. What is common knowledge about elves that our PCs would know?

Frankie Faro wrote:

It's late afternoon.

Agate Copperdyne wrote:

They are beautiful, ethereally so. They like living in forests. Elven society can be quite insular, with elves often coming across as arrogant, sarcastic, and elitist to other races.

(See Rifts North America: Arcana and Mysticism page 24)

Julian takes the time to wander, but is completely mesmerized while they are lead around the location.

Supper and overnight seems to work for me.

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

okay . . .

The group are led to an inn. Enveloped by tree branches, the inn is two stories high and has room for you to eat, and then head back. After you are paid, of course.

Most of the inn is wreathed in greenery. The elves around are grateful that you've brought the rice. So they ask if they can transfer some credits to your account.

Female Human Parry 8(9) / RATN 4(6) / Toughness 15(6) / 3 Bennies

"Actually, we're looking for someone around here named Telemon. He's our contact with the guy who hired us to deliver the rice. Telemon should have our money."

Quickflex Gunslinger

Frankie nods. "Most important part," he mutters to himself.

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

"Yes, Telemon is here," the elf says. "I'll take you to him. If you come this way."

Female Human Techno-Wizard (Novice) | Bennies Spent: 1

Agate uses the time to learn what she can about how the elves use the modern technology and if they know how to infuse magic in with the tech as she sometimes does. She's not pushy if they are reluctant to discuss what they consider proprietary information, but she asks a lot of questions as long as they give friendly answers.

They say they do know how to infuse magic with tech. They showed you a dragon gun that works like a plasma rifle, except that it throws fire. It looks like a plasma rifle, except that they added certain design elements. They also show you a couple of tree trimmers.

"These work on ley lines," one of the elves explains.

Female Human Parry 8(9) / RATN 4(6) / Toughness 15(6) / 3 Bennies

Kara listens attentively and patiently thru the magic+tech discussion, then as gently and tactfully as she can put it says [b]"That's very interesting! But weren't we on our way to Telemon?"[b]

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

"Yes, of course, this way," the elf says in American. He leads you to the granary, where Telemon was waiting. "And here we are."

Female Human Techno-Wizard (Novice) | Bennies Spent: 1

At an appropriate point, Agate will ask the elves if they know of any Ley Lines or Nexus points nearby.

They know of one nexus point. Three ley lines connect to it. It is, thankfully, one mile to the west.

Quickflex Gunslinger

Frankie listens to the tech talk without contributing, staying back and keeping an eye on the elves and their cargo. As far as he's concerned, it's still their responsibility until they get the money.

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

Telemon comes forward. "Here is the money promised," he said.

Male Human Seasoned Power Armour Jock. Pace 6, Parry 5, Strain 6, Toughness 7 (13 in PA) (Armour 5, 16 in PA)

Once thd money changes hsnds, Julian relinquishes control of thd wagon to the elves.

He wanders around completely awestruck.

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

The elves have built a town in the trees. They still raise crops, that's for sure. Telemon looks to you. "These trees were magically treated to grow a certain way," he explains.

Male Human Seasoned Power Armour Jock. Pace 6, Parry 5, Strain 6, Toughness 7 (13 in PA) (Armour 5, 16 in PA)

Amazing, Julian whispers to himself, as he stumps alonv the pathway trying to avoid as much damage as he can.

So, what happens next?
