"Above the law? No sir - within the law. Your concerns are exactly those actions which would be done by someone with less moral and ethical certitude than the three of you. Of course it isn't the first to be created, but it might be the first to be able to be created in such a land, with individuals such as yourselves," and here Coalhouse waves to the three of them, "giving thought and balance to counter its potential for abuse. A teamster would certainly not be able to 'settle', vengefully as you say, with some local noble, but is it right and just that that same baron can - and has, make no mistake - taken a percentage of the value of a wagon's contents as toll for passing through his lands? I've personally seen, at different times, a train of heavy ore wagons pass through a noble's lands with barely a penny changing hands, and yet a single cart of expensive furs be charged near a quarter of their worth to travel across that same road. By weight I can see, or some other real measure of wear and tear on a road which the baron keeps in good repair; not in the value of the contents."

Coalhouse again waves his hand, as if moving that particular thing to one side. "That's examples, though. And your concerns about turning into self-righteousness is likewise taken to heart, which is why I believe such an association should be governed by representatives - of the company owners, of the carters who do the work, perhaps of the nation's government. And then give one other group with the absolute power to veto a major course of action, but only to veto - a group who will not be involved with their daily trials, who will be able to look at them with new, unflinching eyes and say, 'no, this is wrong': someone from your unique brotherhood." Meaning, of course, paladins.

With the shark-through-the-ocean grace of a born socialite, Alysandra saunters up to where her brother has lodged with three paladins. "Gentlemen," she teases gently as she links her hand through the crook of Coalhouse's arm, "too much righteousness in one place is bound to make any political edifice collapse. If my brother hasn't enamored you of his intentions yet, then give it time and thought. And if you can't say a prayer for our success, at least say a prayer for our souls; I know his can use all the help it can get," she teases her half-sibling, which is sort of strange to consider, seeing half-elf and half-orc standing side by side. "Come, Coal, these gentlemen undoubtedly have much to discuss, and not only that which you've given them."

Coalhouse gives Alysandra a brief smile, then gives that neck-bow to each of the gentlemen as he says their names. "Sir Azrael. Sir Ignatius. Sir Axhammer." Taking leave of human, half-orc, and [tall for a] gnome, he moves off with his sister while she catches him up on her activities in a quiet voice as the two stroll.

Neither miss the discrete screening the Surtova's guards perform as Rupert and Zephyra move; Coalhouse in particular notices the Aldori's aggravation at losing access to the incipient monarch. After a few more words, the siblings part ways once again. This time, Coalhouse approaches - from the rear, if he can at all manage it - Rudolph Ferdinand Aldori III.

"Can't do much about human nature, Master Aldori," the half-orc says, stepping next to the swordsman with his own hands linked behind his back. Coalhouse doesn't look at the incensed man, instead watching the king, presumably with Amavin in tow, vanish into the conversational room. Instead of taking the tack of 'courtier', which has so obviously and spectacularly failed with Ishana and Azrael, he's using the 'world-wise fellow man' angle - well, if it works. "Or," he adds, glancing around at where-ever Ralph Khavortorov has escorted Ishana Tamanna, "adventuresome sorts. Would I be wrong in presmuing you're wanting to discuss with the king the political shape of the court-to-come?" Perhaps interestingly, he doesn't bother introducing himself to the Aldori, not honestly imagining the fighting-school leader doesn't already have that information.

Given a new task, Alysandra returns to the shark-infested waters of the room with verve and delight. Oh, she's a little better in the boardroom than in the ballroom, but one must confess that the margin of difference is slim - and she's excellent in both, which is one of the many reasons Coalhouse values her so highly. Her main targets are the Restov nobility - specifically those who have mercantile interests, especially if those interests are to the south, if she can only recall who exactly they are.

Her first stop, naturally, is to personally greet the Lord Mayor, instead of just a distant curtsey - though that personal greeting is not devoid of such a courtesy, which immediately follows her approach and the words, "My Lord Mayor of Restov," spoken in her exquisite voice. The deep curtsey is precisely tuned to his social rank as well as tonight's position as host, and she rises from it ready to either offer her hand to him should he have his hand out to her, or simply to speak.

"Permit me to introduce myself. I am Alysandra Janus, of the International Businessmen. It is the wish of both myself and my brother, Coalhouse Porter, that through ties of trade we can make the new lands into a valued partner of Restov and Rostland, one which would desire only prosperity and self-determination for its northern neighbor. We have, after all, taken the contract of ensuring the safe movement of King Rupert's baggage train in light of this wish, and despite the ... clear displeasure that doing so has incurred for us in these climes - though it is, after all, only a single contract." A gesture of her hand indicates the room and its Restov nobility, currently treating her and her sibling as so much manure on the bottom of their collective boots.

Ishana frowns at the anger and frustration, and wears a look of disdain. "Well it's clear that someone certainly needs to find a girlfriend" she responds in a cutting manner, before raising her eyebrows slightly as Ralph suddenly appears like lightning.

"Oh my, you seem to have him well trained", she remarks happily in response to Ralph's appearance, deliberately slurring her words slightly to give the impression that she is not quite herself at the present. Ishana puts up a token show of stubborn resistance before allowing Ralph to drag her away, before allowing herself a parting shot at the famous swordsman. "You should have told me earlier that you were so interested in Amavin sir, if I had known I might have considered putting in a good word for you, and you wouldn't have to kick the floor in such a distressingly childish manner" she remarks, her tone deliberately sweet as she purposely overlooks the man's desire to speak with Rupert Surtova, choosing to interpret it as a desire to speak longer with Amavin. As Ralph escorts her away, Ishana completes her parting shot with an insufferable smile, while wiggling her eyebrows as if to say "your secret is safe with me."

When at a reasonably safe distance Ishana smiles at Ralph. "I think he really likes me Ralph, what do you think?" she says in a chirpy voice.

Amavin doesn't miss the subtle movement of the discrete line of guards allowing her access as she raises her eyebrows in surprise. "A private audience? Just for me? Your Majesty you flatter me beyond words, it would be an honor to have a discussion in private. Is there something in particular that I can help you with?"

As she asks, Amavin glides accross the floor, heading in the direction of the private room, while trying to think why royalty would be seeking her out personally. She was sure that she would find out soon, but Amavin always liked to be a step ahead, and this entire situation had slightly rattled her, putting her off guard.

Aolis and Sacha glide into the path of the new King, how that was managed with the guards could only be guessed at. Some may even suspect magic from the elven mage. He bows to the pair as he clearly blocks their path. A guards makes as if to move but a look from Aolis at the hint of movement stops the guard. He knew better. The elf focused on the new monarch.

"Apologies for any interruption, my lord, my lady. I could not help but notice you were due to retire from the festivities and I could not allow such discourtesy on my part. Having arrived so recently is little excuse still I must salvage what little good form is left of me by paying my respects before your presence."

Again he bows.

"As you seem to already be entertaining I will keep this brief as not to intrude more then needed, hopefully I will have a chance to speak with you more fully when your are less occupied. Besides paying my respects as befits your station, I would like to present my gift as well. You may find it will heighten your discussions if not make it more enjoyable. I should hope."

He presents a slim bottle of elven wine from Kyonin.

"It is of Cheya berry vintage, very good if I may offer my opinion. The cheya plant is used as a component in many dishes in Kyonin, not merely the berries. Granted the berries are the sweetest ingredient used from the plant, yet when made into a wine they become something transcended or so I am told by those more in the know about such things. Forgive my ramblings, I hope it is to your liking."

He hands the bottle over and nods his head slightly to each in turn.

"My lord, my lady."

Then moves to the side to allow passage.

Rudolf Ferdinand Aldori III turns to see Coalhouse, anger in his eyes. He looks at the half orc for a second, and then eyes him from top to bottom, and snickers. After he finishes talking, he answers.

"You are the leader of the new King porter's, right? I wonder why they let you in. But I guess one such as yourself, able to climb from your station, should have abilities and capacities beyond those normally found in your race. And as such you should be able to recognize an opportunity when you see one. So, if you are as wise as I hope, you will meet me later, and maybe I can give some work to you and your boys."
Alysandra don't see anything particular in the party for now.

Restov's Lord-Mayor Ioseph Sellenius' eyes widen and a smile shows in his lips when Alysandra talks to him. He proceeds to ignore a couple swordlords talking to them and kiss the Helf-Elf hand.

"A pleasure to meet you, mylady. A real pleasure."
Alysandra has seen that effect before. She is "his type".
"But of course we need to prevent some of the animosity of some of Restov's citizen to permeate to your group, which is only doing their business. I will personally talk to them, and maybe set up a meeting between you and me. And some chosen people, of course. Tomorrow maybe? What they say is disheartening. It has been many years since anyone could cross the lands towards the other River Kingdoms, and all travel and commerce has to take longer routes. There are reports of all kinds fo monsters and bandits, impossible to corroborate or make certain.

And to make things worst, divination towards the area is useless. One of the priest warn you, very strongly, to not even try.

He chuckles.
"I would very much wish to know more about such a contradiction of a man serving the new king. Or would you claim ignorance of my house and station? Perhaps the slight was intentional then?"
The halfling had walked right into a trap of his own making. He cared not a wit about being judged, plenty of people have judged him. Nearly all were dead many years pass, what does time or the world care for judgement. That did not mean he would allow it without extracting a cost. One you must be willing to pay to ply such things in turn.

And I thought only Lord Rudolf Aldori lacked any manners over here. Now, if you excuse me, I have better things to do that fancy myself a big lord."

He seems really mad at you at the moment, and he has a point. He works for the new King, and maybe to make an enemy of him is not a wise course of action. Too bad that maybe that has happened already.

But I guess one such as yourself, able to climb from your station, should have abilities and capacities beyond those normally found in your race. And as such you should be able to recognize an opportunity when you see one. So, if you are as wise as I hope, you will meet me later, and maybe I can give some work to you and your boys."

"I'm the head of the company who's been contracted for that job," replies Coalhouse, clarifying the facts of the matter; there's a difference between being hired by the king and being part of the king's household, which both he and Anando Verisisi can attest to. The half-orc gives a shake of his head, displaying slight disgust or contempt, as he watches the blatantly offensive behavior of the elf Aolis Greenborn. "You know," he muses, "I'm surprised that elf does't have a spear blade through his spine. My Lord," he says, finally turning to the Aldori, "while I am quite able to recognize opportunities when - usually before - they appear, I should note both that my current contract is with the king, and that taking another before it is concluded would be political and economic suicide right at the very top. If you're looking for assistance with your own equippage, I intend to have a couple of my troubleshooters roaming along the line of march to assist with any issues that may arise.

She shakes her head at the elf as they walk around.

"Sometimes I wonder if their is something wrong with you."

"I have enough porters already," - Rudolf Ferdinand Aldori III answers Coalhouse - "and if that is the full extent of the service you can render, then I won't be needing you. So, if you are interested, look for me later on..."

Coalhouse ... looks a little amused at the Aldori's claim to have enough porters, but 'not from what I've seen' would be indiscrete. "That is a horse of a different color, Master Aldori," says the half-orc. "Until later, then." He then takes a half-step back and, with one hand raised to his breast, gives a short bow from his waist, though his eyes never leave the swordsmaster.

Finished with what might have been the most delicate negotiation of the evening, Coalhouse moves off towards where the king disappeared - or rather, to find the king's steward, Anando Verisisi.

Porablum quirks an eyebrow at the arrival of two of the Four Swords, immediately recognizing their flirtation.

Well, this is a curious quandary. On the one hand, she does find them genuinely handsome and dashing, and Aramil likely would prefer to avoid quarreling with them. They also probably have many fascinating stories of adventures On the other, they are Aldori Swordlords flirting with the Surtova daughter of a Surtova king who likely isn't well-liked or trusted, especially by Swordlords. Also, the girl's only 13.

Noticing Rade on the verge of fainting, Porablum knows she must immediately step in. Plus, she was genuinely curious to know more of the Four Swords.
