Corsario wrote: Does she and Coalhouse have "recognized" half siblings? Do they have one or two siblings that are legally heirs of their father, and that they should be "subsirvient" to? Of course - Daddy Dearest (who should now be in his early 60's) probably has a whole brood of legitimate kiddies, probably most of whom are roughly the same age as the illegitimates, i.e. from about 40 to late-teens. As prolific with his wife as he is with his not-wives, at a guess they might have 10-15 legitimate children who have survived their infancy, if not more. The legitimate children undoubtedly feel that they are 'above' the illegitimate ones; they are, after all, nobles, while the dozen(s?) of bastards are, well, bastards. Whether or not they feel the bastards should be subservient to them is another question, but IMO, the only time the official kids would likely meet the bastards would be in a business scenario - they visit (or are running a portion of) one of their Father's business interests, perhaps to ask Father for something, and encounter one of the bastards employed there. Even a regular manager at such a business would show deference to the noble owner's children; a bastard child who has worked up to management would certainly do the same. On the other hand, Coalhouse may well be 'absconding' with those of the man's illegitimate children who are sick and tired of bowing and scraping to 'the Officials'.
What does she thinks of Coalhouse? What about his plan? What does SHE wants of her life? Coalhouse is the one with the plan, the drive, and the perceptivity (Int and Wis 14); Aly is above-average in both (Int and Wis 12), but her elven heritage makes her take a longer view - there is, after all, a very good chance that Coalhouse will die of old age before she even makes it to middle age - which, after all, might well place her at the head of the organization. So she's content to permit her smarter, driven, fast-candle-burning younger brother to put together a group that can essentially become her own retirement plan. Of course, she's discussed the plan (and the ideas behind it) with both him and Ghent Maston, the oldest of the bastards, who really is the 'consiglieri' sort (with a 15 Int and a 12 Wisdom); her diplomat nature sees the creation of this organization as a challenge to her skills as well, managing disparate and contrary elements in order to insert her family between them as go-betweens, both in a transport fashion and, if she can manage it, in a social manner. She thinks Coalhouse has a great idea, but that more could be done with it - that they could indeed become a powerful, subtle force for good in the Stolen Lands. That is her personal goal: to make Coalhouse's dream happen, but better for everyone involved. It isn't that she doesn't have ambition of her own, it's just that she sees how her vaguely-formed desires dovetail very nicely with the shorter-lived Coalhouse's drive to accomplish something in his lifetime, something that will outlive him. And though she knows that the organization they build might well be able to be turned to nasty ends, she figures they have time to put blocks in place to prevent that from happening - though she's yet to bring this up with either Coalhouse or Ghent. Half-brothers and half-sisters, but in general, she is sort of a big sister - the 'fair to the point of exasperation' kind. However, with her strength (14) - of the kin who's followed the pair south, she's the strongest except for Merric Hammerhand (15 Str) - if she can't persuade everyone to play fair and get along, she can generally headsmack them into it. As the organization expands beyond the boundaries of family, she'll necessarily have to become a bit more of a manager sort, at least in public, but in private that 'big sister' relationship will undoubtedly remain the same. Ghent is one of the few siblings she has a fully-adult relationship with, perhaps because he's a few years older than she. Corsario wrote:
Most of the siblings' mothers are prostitutes, whether human, half-elven, or half-orc, of one level of social acceptability or another. Alysandra saw what that life, even the life of a high-class prostitute like the elegant, graceful, beautiful half-elven women like her mother, could do to their spirits, and decided that frankly, that was not the life for her. Having always been fascinated by the raconteurs and conversations she'd heard as she grew up, while still in her teens she started going out to taverns and telling stories herself, getting 'drinks' bought for her to keep her wet (though the payment for the drinks was seldom actually drunk, instead getting split with the tavern while she drank water). She soon became adept at gauging what sort of story a crowd was in the mood for, and her ability to defuse a situation and find an equitable middle position led to her being called upon as a mediator, setting her firmly on the path of the negotiator bard. Corsario wrote:
Honestly, Aly is a politician's nightmare - someone who is generally honest and out for the common good, and yet who can talk rings around them. While she's less adept than most at spotting a lie for what it is (her Sense Motive is 'only' a +11), she is stellar at doubletalk (Bluff +16) and negotiation (Diplomacy +18), and even more dangerous if she's negotiating for the services of her brother's organization. She's even adept enough to assist her allies - including her gruff brother Coalhouse - in diplomatic situations, like parties, so long as they're within reach. Like Coalhouse, Alysandra knows that it isn't the political setup that matters, it's the people who are at the top. Unlike Coalhouse, Alysandra is adept enough to know that some setups are more prone to abuse than others. While she's heard good things about this 'democracy' thing being tried out in Andoran, she knows that a balance between popular rule and authoritarian rule is likely to be best. She would, given the chance, prefer a constitutional monarchy, with a permanent (undismissable) parliament containing both Houses (of Lords and of Commons). Corsario wrote:
Could be anyone; I'm willing to leave that up to you. Here's an idea - could be a half-elf courtesan (not necessarily the rogue variant that's a semi-bard, but that's up to you), someone who worked with the Surtovas during their back-room dealings to seize the throne. How she actually feels about the Surtovas is, again, up to you, but it would provide another potential lever for/against Alysandra and Coalhouse. It's also possible that, if she's a full elf, that she has come south to ply her courtesanly trade amongst the newly high-and-mighty - which means she might have been the method by which Alysandra and Coalhouse are brought into all this.
