Liberty's Edge

NPC is fine with me. Neither of my guys are interested in PbP... Losers.

Welcome back Tom -- how was Charcon?

Charcon was lots of fun and the Special was definitely a better experience. It was a really small con overall. Charcon is Charleston, WV game convention. They had like 1-2 tables of Starfinder and 5-8 Pathfinder. Cabe got a coupon for MVP/Best/Worst roll for doing an Abundant Step (Dimension Door) on top of a Construct Dragon to try and grapple, failed a Ride Check but successfully Acrobatics off to the ground and then ran to grab my Warpriest from the dragon's mouth and Abundant Stepped away with me having 2 HP left. It was awesome!

That's amazing! Good for Cabe

@Chaosorbit, before moving on, just making sure that we didn't miss something in any of the rooms we've looked at so far. It seems we all did pretty good investigation of each of the rooms, did we find anything of use or that we should have interacted with that we may have missed? I tried reading back but with the time off from my travels and GenCon, I want to make sure we didn't miss something important prior to moving to the other rooms. If nothing left, that's fine. Some really cool background texts and other stuff though.

The library is full of things to read, you guys only made a cursory search...so there's that.

Just had a thought, I thought I would share regarding the Pathfinder Playtest.

I think I now like that AOOs are limited to only fight types. At first, I didn't care for it. But this combat has changed my mind, as I reflect on many a Pathfinder 1.0 battles I've GMed. These nagaji's are monks, they are designed and their tactics call for them to be hit-n-runs artists and ranged threats that keep their distance and make your life tough. well they aren't particularly hardy, so they really can't take a lot of AOOs, as they move their speed and then do their ranged or hit-n-run tactics. So basically once you "catch-up" to them they are forced to stay in a melee fight where they are less effective. So it's real easy for you guys. I mean 5-foot step Scorching Ray always plays well, but Spring attack, guy with a bow and ability to cast True Strike every other turn, not quite so well. And I can think back on countless battles where the monster's tactics feel apart as soon as the PCs closed.

So now I'm thinking about 2.0 and how much more these guys could be effective in the new system. You close and hit them, but they can take 2 moves (don't have to worry about AOO), and then pluck you with a bow. Or take 3 moves and force you to do the same without attacking. It gets a lot more interesting. I think as we get use to 2.0, there will be a lot more movement in combat to improve positions, angles, work into flanks, avoid flanks, etc. Think it will be more fun once we all get out of the habits we got into with how we fight in 1.0.

Just the musing of a frustrated GM, who wished his monsters presented a decent challenge for once...lol

What do you guys think?

Liberty's Edge

I fully agree, David. After GMing the first part, I felt like I had a lot more flexibility with my monsters. There were more options to move or stay and fight depending on the type of creature. A big, beefy dude would try and corner you to get all 3 attacks in, whereas a smaller faster creature might move, hit, then move away.

Because of my investment in the 1.0 system (ie HeroLab, books, APs, etc) I'm dreading the fact that I seem to be enjoying 2.0 more than I wanted. Don't get me wrong, I like the change and would move forward with it, but when I look at my shelf full of books and unused adventures, I was hoping that I'd have an easy choice of not liking 2.0. Maybe there will be some ways to adapt old APs to the new rule set??

Silver Crusade

Maps and Handout

Yeah agree on the investment...you can still use all that stuff if you want. There are still people out there playing 1st, 2nd 3rd, 3.5, 4th D&D...lol

Unfortunately, they have stated several times that they are not planing any kind of conversion rules.

My thought on switching or not, is if you want to play any PFS in the future you'll have to at least be in both worlds. For example, all the new interactive Con specials going forward will us 2.0. I enjoy the specials, so I'll at least have tip my toe into that level of investment.

Grayson and I had an interesting conversation a couple days after we did the playtest and before he left for Chicago. We popped into the Bookery and were looking around and stopped at the D&D 5th ed stuff...it all looked so nice. And we both had the same thought, should we consider jumping back to the mothership instead of Pathfinder 2.0??

We couldn't decide what was best right then, but I've thought about it a bit; and despite recent unreliable website business, Paizo is a very different company than Wizards of the Coast. I've always got the impression that Paizo was more customer focus, and seemed to have a real passion for there World and products, and cared about players having fun. I like that. So I guess I would lean toward sticking with Pathfinder.

There are some things that I like but others that I don't with P2.0. If we jump to any other one, I have to re-invest regardless. I'll probably play both or others as friends such as yall do.

Silver Crusade

Maps and Handout

Don't think I'll take advantage of this but Paizo is offering a discount because of the recent outage, (cut and pasted from another post):

In apology, we're offering you 10% off any one paizo.com order placed between now and 11:59 PM Pacific Time on Sunday, September 30. Just enter the promotion code downtime during checkout. This 10% discount is redeemable only once and does not apply to subscriptions, backorders, preorders, or downloads from companies other than Paizo, but it does stack with the Paizo Advantage discount.

In case you guys need anything.

I look forward to trying the future play tests. I’ve found myself getting quickly confused on how many moves, etc. that I have so mixing rules will likely be problematic for me. We’ll see I guess. I’ve said for a long time that I do what the crowd does as I enjoy the people I’m with more than what I’m doing!

Liberty's Edge

Hey guys,
We are out of town this weekend and I may not have time to post anything. I’ll see if I can sneak on sometime later today, but it might not be until tomorrow. Sorry, only have my phone right now.

Chronicles are here.

Let me know if they look okay.

Liberty's Edge

Thanks David! Interesting play and cool rewards/boons. I think Matt might have wanted to keep one of the eggs though. Cizish doesn't have an animal companion as a Sky Druid, but Matt had mentioned keeping one as a companion and we may have not had the chance for him to role play that out.
Am I the only one that gets the Hikori tetsubo?

Silver Crusade

Maps and Handout

Oops - nope not sure what happened there, no one got that. That was if you defeated Jiraki, you got Jiraki's Respect boon instead. I updated your chronicle Cizish.

Sorry I missed the intention for Olli --easy enough to adjust if Matt wants the boon, you had enough respect built up you could have kept the eggs without triggering the fight so just let me know Matt and I'll update it.
