Kiri takes a moment to look around, but sees nothing of importance in this narrow hallway.
Note that with Davina's action, the inside of the Livery is now normal light and no miss chance applies.
The two smaller dogs snap and growl at the intruders. One sinks his teeth into Jessibel's other leg, while the other snarls and tries to bite at Lucius, who puts his club between himself and the small creature's teeth. 4 damage to Jessibel. Ouch!

Kiri had just heard the dog come running over to bark at the gate as she stepped out of the hallway to the alley again. She knew the dog couldn't get to Dom and that their compatriots needed help. She felt she was kinda obligated to keep her apprentice alive at least so she ran as fast as she could to try and get to them.
I frogot to move myself last round so I took care of that. this round I took a run action, I can move 120 feet in a straight line but unfortunately I can't turn so I went to 85 and stopped for this round.

Domitius aka Dukkan |

"Hey... whoa! Hyah! Ahhh! Whoa... Yahhh!" Dom is both startled and pleased to see his plan actually seemed to work. Somewhere along the line, he notes that Kiri left, hopefully to go help the others. In an attempt to keep the dog's attention, he goes back up to the gate, whooping, snarling, and in general making himself as tempting as possible without putting himself in real danger.
OK, so, moving back to the locked gate (also as part of the move action, drawing a dagger). I'm gonna bang on the gates, clang on them with my sword, and keep on making what I hope to be a dog-attracting ruckus. If the gate's spacings are wide enough to get an arm through unhindered (e.g. it's more like a jail-cell door than, say a chain-link fence), I'll even think about sticking my arm through to try and give it a swipe with my knife. But only if the opening is wide enough that I can take a swing without taking too much of a penalty.

Davina Eradon |

Davina fires her crossbow at the snarling dog standing next to her and Lucius. She drops her crossbow, draws her rapier and carefully takes a step toward the dog. "Lucius let's see if we can get on either side of him. That should at a least keep his attention off of Jess and Leora."

Dropping my crossbow after the shot and pulling out my rapier as I 5 foot step toward yellow as my move action. My hope is to give Lucius a flank opportunity if he wishes to take it.

![]() |

Domitius: There is an opening where you could throw a dagger through, though the dog isn't close enough to hit with a melee attack.
Davina: Crossbows crit on 19-20, not 17-20. That actually drops the dog, though. How do you want to change your action?

Kiri Windfeather |

Kirri took the chance to quickly move up and reach her compatriots at the doors. Sadly it took her much longer than she though it would and she found herself bereft of a shot at the dogs.

Davina Eradon |

Sorry read the die roll wrong looked at the total. I'll reload the crossbow and stay where I'm at instead of dropping it, and moving forward

Leora Scileana |

Though it's clear that Leora is no dog expert, she has figured out they'll bite her as soon as she tries to stand. She shouts "In Cayden's name, we will claim this stable!" It seems silly since she's still sprawled on the floor, but the prayer works just the same.
Casting bless on everyone, except Dom who is out of range (+1 to all attack rolls for the next minute).

Jessibel Aulamaxa |

Jessibel hears Dom shouting from somewhere deeper inside the livery and hopes he's providing some sort of distraction and not being mauled by another pack of dogs himself. In any event, the girl realizes he won't be coming to her rescue and a cold knot of fear forms in her gut and starts to spread throughout her body, threatening to paralyze her.
Only when Davina's able to cut dog one of the smaller dogs with a well-placed crossbow bolt does Jessi see any hope of surviving the battle. Lucius entered the scrum with a club in hand, further upping the odds. The girl tried to think strategically, but there were too many possibilities, most of which hinged upon her actually being able to hit one of the curs with her damned rapier.
Doubting she could take out the larger dog with one thrust, the girl opted to target the smaller mutt, hoping a hit might take one more set of jaws and sharp teeth out of the fight.
Rapier attack on Green: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 for piercing damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5

But, of course, her shaky stab missed the mark. She knew she could shift behind the smaller dog, giving Lucius a flanking opportunity...but that would mean leaving the larger dog either a clear path to the gunslinger or an easy chomp at the fallen Leora (though dogs sometimes considered creatures in the prone position to be showing submission...but the cleric's shouting and spellcasting seemed anything but to her). Gritting her teeth, Jessibel stood her ground, screaming something most unladylike at the larger dog to bait it into attacking her and ignoring Leora.

The remaining small dog bites at Jessibel again, but the young aristocrat's luck stays with her as she blocks it with her buckler.
Lydia is up.

That doesn't hit, because of the penalty for shooting into Melee.
Jessibel finds her dancing moves work to avoid the mastiff's powerful jaws.
The other big dog runs up and tries to bite Dom through the bars of the gate, but can't get past it to reach him. Both Dom and the dog have improved cover vs. each other for melee attacks, and the dog has cover (not improved cover) against Dom for ranged attacks.

Davina Eradon |

Davina wants to cry as she looks at the dog she killed. I really didn't want to do that but Jessibel and Leora are hurt. I don't want to do this either. Sadly she takes aim at the dog next to Jessibel, and fires her crossbow.

Leora Scileana |

Seeing that Jessibel has been bitten too, Leora calls upon Cayden's power to heal the two of them. The holy energy quickly binds some of her wounded leg back together. What was she thinking, laying on the ground while her friends got attacked by the dogs? She's the one in heavy armor, with a shield after all. Clambering to her feet, she prepares to aid Jessi and Lucius in melee.

Kirri was annoyed, there was no clear shot at a dog, in fact the only one she could see was largely obscured. When shooting into melee, please apply the penalty to your shots if you don't have precise shot. Cover applies to AC so do not apply that.
Lucius and Davina wound the remaining smaller dog with club and crossbow, then Kiri's winds smash into it, tumbling it arse-over-teakettle and leaving it battered and unconscious, out of the fight.
Domitius waits for the dog to snap at the bars, and stabs through them to hit its throat, wounding it terribly and leaving it bleeding on the ground.
Leora, you can only exclude one of the dogs at a time, because your CHA mod is only +1. However, the big dog hasn't even been hit yet, so you don't need to exclude him. There are two smaller dogs, both of whom were injured to the point of unconsciousness, but aren't dead. The yellow one was more injured than the green. Healing them will keep them from completely dying, but will only bring them to consciousness if the healing exceeds their negative total. Which one do you want to exclude, if any?
Leora heals herself and Jessibel, and tries to stand up. The big dog bites her arm painfully, but she manages to get to her feet. 4 damage to Leora, but he couldn't trip you again because you were already tripped.

Jessibel feels hope pulse inside her when a pained yelp sounded from the other large dog she assumed was harrying Domitius and then Kiri's wind blast finished off the second smaller mutt that Davina and Lucius had managed to wound; Leora's healing buoys her confidence as well. Still, the girl winces when Leora tries to stand up and again the big mastiff makes her pay dearly with its teeth.
She's feeling just like I do, Jessi realizes. Leora knows that we've got to do our share of hand-to-hand fighting to back up Domitius, and neither of us is putting in a very memorable performance.
Keep its attention off Leora and move to flank the cur, Jessibel thinks, her nerves calming a bit. She stabs at the mastiff (standard) before moving a few steps north (5-ft. step).

Thanks for clarifying, GM. I had forgotten about the small dogs and that they were only unconscious. I'll exclude the green dog then. For some reason, I had it in my head that selective channel just excluded two targets, but you are correct!

Barking angrily, the big dog tries to take another bite out of Leora. This time, in a proper defensive stance, the cleric is able to swing her shield in to block the attack.
As Domitius is getting his bearings after putting down the other dog, he sees a chunk of masonry suddenly raise up into the air, on its own, float over his head, and then fall down onto him, crumbling to bits as it lands and getting old plaster dust in his hair. Kiri Windfeather |

Kirri had a chance to get a better shot at the remaining dog and moved into the room, circling the battle, until there was no one between her and it. She still had to take care with her aim but that didn't dissuade her as she sent a burst of air at the dog.

Domitius stood at the grate, taking stock of his handiwork. He took no satisfaction from having killed the dog, but if it was between the dog and one of his new two-legged friends, well that wasn't anything he would lose sleep over.
"What the...?" Dom is mystified as bits of debris rain down on him without apparent cause. He whirls around, both trying to pinpoint where the sounds might have come from, and to keep something bigger from getting dropped on his head without his seeing it coming.
Hearing that the other end of the fight with the dogs is wrapping up, Dom calls out to his allies, keeping his voice calm. "Uh, guys, nothing urgent just yet, but definitely odd. When you get a moment, could you get back over here?"

Kiri's blast smashes into the dog, again resulting in it collapsing in the dust.
The dogs could be revived if you want to, by the way. The larger ones look like they would qualify for the bounty for live, large dogs proclaimed by Thrune.
A gleam of metal on a rafter catches Leora's eye.
If you manage to climb up to the rafter somehow:
Davina notices the two doors in the back look mostly intact. There might be something there that has withstood the passage of time.

Jessibel Aulamaxa |

Jessibel thanks the others for coming to her rescue and taking down the pack of canines. Then she leans lightly against the wall near the doors, lifting one leg at a time up to view the damage to her legs and the legs of her armor's pants, casting prestidigitation to clean away the blood and dog slobber and mending to close the holes the dog's teeth put in her armor.
Turning to Lucius, she asks if there's something wrong with his musket and offers to try to fix it with magic.

"Is everyone alright"? Davina asks as she continues to look around the room. "There are a couple of doors back here. Dom is there anything of interest in your room?"

Jessibel Aulamaxa |

"My legs both still hurt when I put my full weight on them," Jessi replies to Davina's question before giggling when Mrs. Eradon sticks the glowing bolt deep into her hair bun, making it look like perhaps she got shot in the head. "I could probably do with a tap from that wand we traded for."
She can cast multiple mending spells on Lucius's musket if necessary.

Leora Scileana |

"Hey, there's something shiny up there in the rafters. " Leora points at the gleam that caught her eye.
As long as nothing is happening immediately:
"Yep. Jessi, I feel the same way. Phew. Nearly getting my leg chewed off taught me a few thing. I definitely know nothing about dogs. If something might come after me, I should make sure everyone is nearby, not exploring another part of the building. And last but definitely not least, listen to Lydia. If I'd been quicker to get away from the dogs, I might not have gotten mauled like that. " Leora reflects on the battle with the dogs and what could have gone better if she hadn't ran into the livery so hastily.

Kiri Windfeather |

Kiri nodded, "I'm fine." The strix woman began to examine the room as the others took care of their injuries but was pulled up short when Leora called out that she saw something shiny up in the rafter. Kiri began to look for a way up there to try and get to the key and finally came to the conclusion that jumping may be her best bet. Jessibel gives Lucius a quick smile once she's got the firing pin functional again. "Oh, that was nothing--just a basic cantrip that most theater-based bards learn early in their careers. You'd be surprised just how many costumes, props, and stage gear a troupe of alleged professionals can tear, damage, or break in the course of a single production."
Figuring that Leora and Kiri can get whatever they've seen up in the rafters (or that whatever it is can wait), Jessibel carefully moves deeper into the run-down livery after casting a light spell on her rapier. Seeing the corpse of the large dog near the barred gate, Jessi raises an eyebrow and asks Domitius, "Through the bars? Nice!"
After a short pause during which she gives the gate a cursory once-over, the girl fails to keep a straight face as she casually lies, "Not to worry--I took out the other three."

"Not to worry--I took out the other three."
Domitius doesn’t even try to hide the amused look on his face. “Oh, is that what I heard?
