"I've got this!" Jessibel says (not sounding overconfident in the least!), closing on the critter with her glowing rapier. The girl sings what sounds like a nursery rhyme. Jessi is NOT using Inspire Courage (yet).
"Grimple! Grimple!
Ugly as a pimple!
Overstuffed possum,
Filthy, cruel, and simple!"
When she gets close, Jessi stabs out at the creature suddenly, trying to skewer it.

Lucius looks over at the creature popping out of the garbage with disgust before bracing his musket and firing at the little 'grimple' as his allies called it.

When Jessibel stabs the creature, her rapier seems to meet some resistance, and it doesn't seem at all wounded. However, she doesn't know why this could be.
It doesn't end up mattering, though, as Lucius's musket ball blasts its way through the ugly creature, leaving it a bloody mess. It still seems to be breathing, but it's clearly not long for this world.
The greasy residue on the ladder rungs remains, however.

Domitius flinches at the sound of the musket going off. Damn, those things are loud. Not taking his eyes off the rats, he calls upstairs, "What's -- Agh, getoffame, stupid rats -- What's going on up there? You causing trouble, Jess?"

The sound of the gun was deafening in the enclosed space and the strix woman wasn't entirely sure that the whole building wasn't going to come down. When she realized she was safe she moved over to the ladder next and look down to try and spot a target, she figured she might as well not try to climb down the slick ladder or jump down if she didn't have to. She hadn't yet realized that she couldn't hear much of anything over the sound fo the gun going off.
If she sees a target:
She saw the opportunity for a wonderful shot at the unsuspecting...something, and sent a blast of air rushing down the shaft to slam into the creature.
Air Blast w/PB: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 3 + 1 = 221d6 + 1 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 3 + 1 = 11
If she can't see a target she will hold that attack until she does or the next round comes up.

"Of course!" Jessibel replies in a half-huff/half-yell. "My singing was so bad that Lucius shot me. I've learned my lesson, though, and will behave from here on out."

Domitius stabs the rat as it is sinking it's teeth into his leg, and kicks it away from him with disgust, leaving it in a bloody pile of filthy fur on the ground.

Leora takes her time going down the ladder, figuring she's spent enough time on the ground today, thanks to the dogs. Her armor and shield clatter as she joins Davina and Domitius in the cellar.

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 Just to see if/how much of the stuff upstairs Dom might have heard. Judging from that, not much, or at least, nothing specific.
Dom shrugs, wincing a bit at the thought that Jessibel might have a legitimate justification for getting louder. "Dunno, maybe those grimpala things attacked up there?" He calls upstairs. "Jess? Is it groomples?"

Kiri lined up a shot on another of the rats and sent a volley of air down at it. But the strange angle and the nescessity of avoiding her companions, caused her blast to plow into the ground at the base of the ladder.

Jessibel moves to the edge of the open hatch and decides that the quickest way down is to jump. Trusting in her training in acrobatics, she simply steps over the edge (move action, trying to look like Selene from the Underworld movies).... Dropping below and landing with grace, the girl tries to stab the rat menacing Davina (standard action).
Turning to Dom, she rolls her eyes and says flatly, "Grimples. One. Now dead."
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
rapier: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16 forpiercing damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3

The grease adds a reflex save to the climb.
Leora climbs down the ladder, her feet slipping twice as she makes her way down, each time catching herself, until she finally lands with a heavy clank on the stone floor next to the others.
Jessibel jumps down gracefully, and stabs the surprised rat in the side.

Dom holds his open hand palm-up, with an incredulous look on his face. Not quite concealing a smile, he says, "Grimples? Well I wish you'd have just said so...!" He then turns his attention back to the remaining rat.

Lydia's electrical blast misses.
The rat, wounded and surrounded, tries to flee. Jessibel, Leora, and Davina take advantage of its flight to try to stab it. Only the cleric is able to sink her blade home, killing the oversized rodent. Combat over!

After Leora skewers the last rat, Jessibel claps the cleric on the shoulder as she passes to investigate the 'stuff' to the south.
"Well done. Feels better to dish out the pain than to be on the receiving end, doesn't it?"
To save time, I'm going to roll multiple Perception checks for Jessibel as she examines the tables, crates, and whatnot to the south (she'll check left-to-right). I figure she's got time before the grease spell wears off and the others can safely climb down the ladder.

Jessibel's search turns up nothing of consequence. Anything of value in this room seems to have been destroyed long ago by the rats.
Unless you want to revive and question the Grimple, I'll let you guys just let the Grease duration expire and then everyone can come down safely.

Once the grease had subsided Kiri climbed down the ladder, taking her time, and began checking the room for anything of interest as she said, "Well that was interesting."

When whoever has the wand gets downstairs, Dom points to his leg, "Think we could fix that up...?"
After that, he helps to search the room at the bottom of the ladder.

Unless you find rat-chewed scraps of leather and wood, rusted metal bits, and rat feces to be interesting, there doesn't seem to be anything interesting in this room. The room has two exits: the ladder leading up that you just climbed down, and a door to the west.

Upon hearing the music, Dom quiets up, and puts a finger to his lips. Okay, now that you've told them all to be quiet, how do you tell them you heard something, you big galoot?
Thinking for a moment, Dom taps his ear, points to the door, and follows that up with miming playing a musical instrument.
Specifically not a flute, he gets that wrong. Probably holds the imaginary instrument out in front like a horn or clarinet. You know. In case any bards he knows are gonna call him out on that later. :)

Leora inspects the room along with everyone else. Since she'd found the stowed away high in the rafters and this basement was also hidden, she wonders what else the Silver Ravens have hidden in this place. So intent on that idea, she picks through all the mangled bits of leather and wood, not noticing anything of interest, but not for lack of trying.
"Not seeing secret stuff-," she she starts to say, but quiets when she see's Domitius gesturing. Not hearing anything herself, Leora shakes her head and shrugs. She draws her rapier then raises her eyebrows at Dom, trying to ask if he'd like to go through the door ready to fight.

Davina looks around, and watches Leora go through every bit of stuff in the room with interest until Domitius' gesture. She draws her rapier and nods to the door ready for what ever comes next.

Dom nods at Leora, then holds up a hand as if to say, wait. He sheathes his dagger, then draws his sword, but holds it down, and waves his hand downward. Blade down, he mouths voicelessly. Dom figures they don't have to be needlessly threatening, but to not have weapons drawn would just be foolish.
As the others come down the ladder, Domitius motions to them to keep quiet. When everyone's assembled, he'll try the door. Gods, I hope this one isn't locked, too.

Lucius climbs down the ladder and looks around. Seeing Dom's gesture Lucius hushes up and listens, but he can't hear anything. Deciding to put his trust in Dom and nods while reloading his musket as quietly as possible.

Leora nods at Dom's silent signal and lowers her rapier so that she doesn't look quite so threatening.

The door is not locked. Domitius opens it quietly, and peers into the gloom ahead. The room is lit only by a few clumps of phosphorescent fungi on the walls. Dirty salt and sawdust coat the floor of this gloomy hall. Bits of the wall masonry have been chewed or clawed away, revealing narrow, winding animal tunnels beyond. Steel rails are mounted in the ceiling, with a few lonely iron hooks dangling from them. A pile of stained pillows and moth-eaten blankets lies in a ten-foot-square depression in the floor to the northwest.
As Domitius starts to step forward, the door suddenly slams shut onto his face! 1 point of nonlethal damage to Dom.
He faintly hears more malicious giggling, like the sound the grimple made upstairs, coming from the other room. The sound of the flute continues eerily.

Dom shrugs as Lydia gares at him. This is worth splitting hairs over?
After the door socks him in the face, Domitius rubs his temple where it hit. "There may be more grimples."
Work just hit Defcon 2, so if anything needs doing before tomorrow, bot me please?

Kiri's expression was onen of disgust at what she had found and went to follow her companions into the next room. The door slamming shut on Dom's face was startling, and humorous, drawing a low whistling chuckle from her, "I think you're supposed to open the door first Dom, not walk through it."

Leora easily opens the door again. She recognizes that the magic used to close it was akin to a simple cantrip, that could open and close things but couldn't keep them closed.
Domitius is able to step into the room if he wishes. He sees no movement, and he isn't able to detect where the giggling is coming from. It sounds almost like it comes from the walls.
The distant, eldritch fluting is louder now that you are stepping out of the room, and definitely is coming from somewhere to the southeast.

Davina follows Jessibel through the door. She stops a few feet to her right, and looks around for anything out of place. She pulls the now non-glowing bolt from her hair.

Dom shrugs. "Either they know what we did to their buddy upstairs, or they can read my mind and know what I'm gonna do to them after that crap with the door."
"I don't like this, something is very wrong here."
And it only took the grimples trying to brain me with the door for you to figure that out, huh? Good to know, Hawkeye. Domitius scowled as he entered the room. The strix's attitude was beginning to grate on him, but this wasn't the time or place to deal with that issue.
I again find myself at work and unable to move without fubaring the map. I'd basically like to go 2 squares due southwest from my current position, it kind of puts me a "knight's move" away from Jessibel (2 up, 1 over).

Leora follows the others into the room, taking a look around. "Does the gate have a key hole or anything to open it?" She asks as she looks around by the light of Davina's impromptu torch. She keeps her rapier out, remembering the strange sounds Dom heard earlier.
