Arxus |
I'd count that as 30 damage, unless my math is off. Since it was just the one hit, Im pretty sure that the +8 is doubled on the crit.
As Arxus is struck a fearsome blow, his deity reaches out to intervene.
Hero's Defiance activates the instant my hitpoints *would* drop below zero.
Hero's Defiance: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6) = 14
Arxus lies unconscious on the floor. but is stable and not dead. Used one Lay on Hands for that spell
GM Batpony |
Got it, updated the damage as appropriate for Arxus and Judge Heng with the extra +4
Arxus, thanks to his magical abilities, recovers himself somewhat, but not enough to be of any use in the fight, Melea and Archer lets more arrows fly hurting the Kuwa Oni.
The creature is known as a Kuwa Oni, an Oni which embodies itself in a humanoid form, who likes to integrate itself in the upper echelons of society. They are known to be able to regenerate, but regeneration can potentially be hindered with acid or fire. They are also known to be able to resist spells.
Combat Round 2/3
Active conditions: inspire courage
Archer, Arxus -45 (-5hp stable)
Judge Heng -43 The red square on the map
Grippli, Melea, Chamius
Grandfather Grippli |
"Grandfathers, impart your wisdom of the ancients upon Human with Bow. Guide his arrows true."
Spectral gripplis and pigs gather around Archer. The many forms swirl around him, each helping or guiding Archer in his task.
Ancestor's Council: Archer gains +2 on any attack/save/ability/skill check before Grippli's next turn.
GM Batpony |
I'll be in the air in a couple hours, so I'm going to keep us moving before I'm on the plane to keep us on track.
The judge picks Arxus body and throws it into one of the tunnels. His body disappears into the smoke and blades, you fear the very worst but do not know any better. Only that he is completely out of sight.
If you can't see the body, you can't interact with the body, Since Arxus is also unconscious, he does not know any better too what's become of him.
Party is up! Chamius can go ahead and post two actions to catch up.
Combat Round 3/4
Active conditions: inspire courage
Archer, Arxus -45 (-5hp stable)
Judge Heng -43 The red square on the map
Grippli, Melea, Chamius
"Archer" |
"What did you do to Arxus?!" Archer yells, taking note of which corridor he was thrown down. He then fires his bow with added guidance of Grippli's ancestors.
"Erastil, add your sacred flames to my bow, that we might avenge our fallen comrade!" Archer calls. (Sacred weapon to make bow Flaming, as it is already +1)
Flaming +1 bow, IC, DA, PB, DF, RS, AC: 1d20 + 9 + 1 - 1 + 1 + 2 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 9 + 1 - 1 + 1 + 2 - 2 + 2 = 14 (already know that's a miss)
Flaming +1 bow, IC, DA, PB, DF, RS, AC: 1d20 + 9 + 1 - 1 + 1 + 2 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 9 + 1 - 1 + 1 + 2 - 2 + 2 = 31 Bow + fire: 1d8 + 3 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 + (6) = 23
In his anquish, he pulls his first shot, but seeing his emotion take the better of him, takes a deep breath, and drills his second shot into the Oni, not caring if this shot will kill the creature.
"Finish him, like he tried to finish Arxus!"
GM Batpony |
Out of Combat
As the Arrow strikes, the judge yields, "Wait! Your friend is not dead, I yield. Your strength is no match to mine." He drops his weapon and moves towards the gong, he carefully picks up the gong mallet, warms it up and chimes the gong creating a low ring. The smokes and blades start to vanish. "Just smokes and mirrors you see."
The hallways are no more than indents into the walls with dead ends, and only one show with the true path. The oni gives way and allows the party to pass through.
As you look in, it is a narrow stone corridor, no more than 5 feet wide, and spans maybe 200ft in distance.
Need to know marching order as you go in the hallway. You may heal, prep and do anything necessary before heading into it.
Grandfather Grippli |
Grippli peers down the corridor. His jaw sets and his eyes narrow. "Pig, I do not like this. No, not at all. Why must we be underground so much? Like you I long to feel the sun on my face, the wind at my back, the rain upon my shoulders. This..atrocity has gone on long enough.
Grippli turns to his fellow Pathfinders. "Let us finish this foolish cat and mouse game. Now!
The runes on Grippli's cloak glow once again. Grippli shakes a bit, settling his gear before marching down the corridor. "Come, Pig.
Cast Mage Armor via Cloak of the Hedge Wizard.
Chamius Lune PFS |
Given the situation, there's not much Chamius could have done. Probably try to trip the oni, but that wouldn't have changed the outcome.
Chamius releases his ioun torch and approaches Arxus' body, drawing a wand and ministering to the unconscious paladin.
CLW wand, 38 charges: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
CLW wand, 37 charges: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
CLW wand, 36 charges: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
That should get him to the point where he can see to his own healing.
"Archer" |
Seeing Chamius healing Arxus, Archer also moves up, nodding to the Oni... perhaps the only contestant to yield to their assault. "I cannot disagree with your sentiment, Grippli. Let us finish this, and let your Pig frolic in the sun."
heals Arxus
Wand of CLW (45): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Wand of CLW (44): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Wand of CLW (43): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Should put Arxus at -10 hp
"Let us get this over with. What other atrocities are ahead of us?"
Arxus |
Thanks guys.
Arxus stands, looks around confused a little.
"It appears Pharasma's Boneyard will not take me just yet! I'm pleased to see you're all alright." Arxus says with a smile.
not sarcasm, he's all about sacrificing himself to protect others
Arxus draws a wand and taps himself a couple times while he heads back to recover his sword, before offering to lead the way down the tunnel.
Wand (CLW): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Wand (CLW): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
"Archer" |
I have placed us all in a marching order, single file. Does this work for everyone?
Melea Shemroe |
Looks good to me.
Melea grins upon Heng's surrender, still rather loath to back down but knowing it must be done. "Good to have you back, Arxus," she says warmly upon his recovery.
GM Batpony |
As the party walks down the hallway, unbeknownst to them, the stonework has been subtly built to create a slope of some sort. About 150 ft in, Arxus slips on something!
The real way to observe the slope change is to be a dwarf or have stonecunning racial trait, so no one was able to pick that out. No one offered to search for traps, so...Arxus kinda stepped on one.
Arxus make a reflex DC21 save or you slide all the way down the tunnel taking 2d6 dmg. Reflex means you get up and just slide slowly down without taking any damage.
The floor that Arxus steps on is greased, a simple mechanical trap that could be easily disabled by one with the appropriate skills (Disable Device DC16). However it does not seem like there is any other way around it, if the party is unable to disable the trap, they will have to risk hurting themselves on the way down like Arxus.
Arxus |
Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Slipping & Falling: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6
"What the- AYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"
"Archer" |
Archer sighs, seeing that Arxus is falling on his own. He works past the cat, and carefully sets himself up to slide down himself. "We cannot let him be down there alone... this contest could kill him!"
He then starts to slide down himself, protecting his bow.
I assume the same damage.
2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10 Of course...
Once down there, if time, he will pull his wand of cure lights, and heal himself...
Grandfather Grippli |
Grippli looks at the walls before running a hand over the surface. "The walls appear to be normal. Human with Pretty voice, I see you happen to have rope. Please, give me one end. I will climb past the slick portion and find a way to anchor the rope. This should allow the rest of you to walk across."
Except you, Pig. Yes yes, I am keenly aware of your maxim "Four legs good two legs bad, and four points of contact being superior to two. If only someone could carry you..."
Grippli's eyes get very big.
"Does anyone have some glue? Or a means of sticking the rope to the wall? I have an idea to get the rope beyond the greasy floor!"
Grandfather Grippli |
"Wait Human with Bow!"
sigh
Arxus |
For clarification: are we sliding further into the tunnel? Or are we sliding back the way we came?
Grandfather Grippli |
I believe you are moving forward as the rest of the party did not 1, have a chance to grab you and 2, did not get knocked prone by yer body hurtling through us.
GM Batpony |
Correct, move forward. The walls are bare, there is really nothing to tie to rope to, but if you guys do figure out some creative way, by all means.
Archer & Arxus
The area right in front of you, is a curved crescent hallway, that leads into a large hall room. From the large hall room you hear sounds of combats. On the floor in front of you are some glyph markings.
"Archer" |
"Arxus, get healed before we do anything. Let's get it healed up. " cure light wound wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
cure light wound wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
GM Batpony |
Make sense, it is stonework, there should be cracks in between stones. Everyone else can make it down safely, but the leopard doesn't have hands.
Melea Shemroe |
Melea, seeing no other way around it, urges Galilah to go straight through the slick. The leopard tries to do so, limbs slipping about frantically...
Reflex, Guidance: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 3) = 8
...But she still crashes down the hallway, landing in a painful and undignified cat sprawl. Melea, however, is already on the other side, wand and soothing noises at the ready.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Grandfather Grippli |
Make sense, it is stonework, there should be cracks in between stones. Everyone else can make it down safely, but the leopard doesn't have hands.
Neither does Pig...
Reflex Save!: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Grandfather Grippli |
"No need to show off, Pig."
Arxus |
Wand (CLW): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
"All good! Once everyone is here, we should get going."
GM Batpony |
Arxus walks toward the room first, stepping on one of the glyph markings as he does so. Suddenly, a blinding light of a ten feet radius flashes upon Arxus and the leopard, blinding them. For 3 rounds, each round you may DC14 Will save to be "un-blinded" for her round.
Do you move forward immediately into the room where you hear the fighting? The others may try to "jump" over, it is a DC5, taking ten is allowed but bear in mind I'll assume that it'll take 10 rounds if you take your time.
"Archer" |
Take 10 does not take extra time. You just take the average roll. Taking 20 is the one that takes more time
When your character is not in immediate danger or distracted, you may choose to take 10. Instead of rolling 1d20 for the skill check, calculate your result as if you had rolled a 10. For many routine tasks, taking 10 makes them automatically successful. Distractions or threats (such as combat) make it impossible for a character to take 10. In most cases, taking 10 is purely a safety measure—you know (or expect) that an average roll will succeed but fear that a poor roll might fail, so you elect to settle for the average roll (a 10). Taking 10 is especially useful in situations where a particularly high roll wouldn't help.
Acrobaticsl: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 9
Archer, having now seen where the trigger is, hops over the glyph, bow at the ready. He also uses a pearl to get back his divine favor.
Arxus |
Will: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
"Well, that was bright. Mayhaps we should keep an eye out for any more traps on the way..."
Chamius Lune PFS |
Assuming we can't take 10:
Chamius goes to jump and then falls over the glyph, but keeps his eyes shut at the critical juncture and preserves his sight.
Acrobatics check, incl. armor penalty: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
DC 14 Will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Grandfather Grippli |
"Jumping. Just because I count the tree frogs of Golarion as my ancestors does not mean I am good at this sort of thing. Gozreah had best not be playing some cruel trick right now. Come Pig. Let us see how well you propel your porcinic girth through the air."
Both Grippli and Pig back up 10' to get a running start.
Jump!: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Grandfather Grippli |
"No need to brag, Pig. It is unbecoming of you."
GM Batpony |
Oops, my bad. Archer is correct.
Melea: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Chamius: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Archer: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Grippli: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Elemental: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
The noise you make as you jump over the glyph seems to have attracted some unwanted attention. Two whirlwinds seem to approach your way, but upon closer inspection, these whirlwinds have eyes and mouth, and hands! They hover towards Arxus and immediately attack him. Although made of air, their bodies look pretty corporeal. However both their attacks don't break through Arxus armor though.
slam: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 181d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
slam: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 181d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Grippli attempts to wrangle the blindness afflicting Archer.

Let's see if I have something appropriately inspirational....Lightning flash and storm winds blow/Strength of arm and heart now grow/Stand against the rising gale/Together them let us assail!"
Inspire courage. It's the best I can do at the moment; trying to trip them is a lost cause.
Grandfather Grippli |
Then Arxus is no longer blind.
Melea Shemroe |
Melea and Galilah make it over with little difficulty, but the leopard is rendered temporarily blind. The aasimar takes a quick shot at the elemental to the north.

You hear the sounds of tears dropping and crying from those who have fail the judgement from beyond the other corridors that lead to this one. Chamius sings a song a confidence while Grippli removes future blindness from Arxus. As Arxus swings his sword, it goes right through the elementals. The elementals regroup themselves into a much better position to take down Arxus. But again both of them are not strong enough to overcome Arxus defences.

Just to be clear, the curved section parting the room is a wall. So in that sense Melea will not have line of sight to the creatures to be able to attack it unless she moves. Archer will have line of sight but Cover rules will be appropriately applied. Let me know if you want to retcon your action and I will adjust the encounter appropriately, but I'll move us forward one round of combat as I don't see it being a big difference to the action of the Elementals. I put placeholders on the map to show where the creatures were before they made a 5ft step.
