Could Arxus have had time to lay on hands after the second fight, as talking to him out of channel, that was his plan -- to heal Dain if he could? And what about Grippli and Chamius? They also didn't get actions.
Archer steps back five feet, shakes his head at the attack. "Do you all not learn?"
He continues using the sacred weapon enhancement, and fires twice into the axe wielding Mwangi man.

@Archer: Although it is difficult to represent, there is a tangled, chaotic melee involving dozens upon dozens of people, all scrabbling for rubies.
Archer, living up to his name, puts the latest challenger down.
Combat over.

They then draw their greataxes as they move forward to engage the party!

Melea makes a sudden lunge to the right, only to rush to the left past the thugs. 'Archer don't look good, but I need to give it time. Dirty Aspis...' She then nocks and fires an arrow at the nearest one, while Galilah slices away at another.

GM, what type of axe was that? I ask, because a hand axe (which has a X3 crit) doesn't have a range. A throwing axe is only X2. Either way I am down, but there is a big difference between -3 and -9!!! Thank you for checking.
Luke_Parry |
@Archer: Good catch! Yes, you are at -3, not -9.
Chamius heals Dain again, returning the tough dwarf to consciousness.
Archer...
1d20 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (1) + 1 - 3 = -1
...bleeds.
Melea successfully ducks away from the closest fighters, but her aim is consequently off, and she fails to hit with her arrow.
Galilah then charges forward, but fails to hit.
@Melea: Since Galilah doesn't have pounce, she can't get a full attack on a charge.
Round 1: ?(G-, R-, P-, B-), Chamius(-), Archer(-31), Grippli(-8), Melea(-), Arxus(-), Dain(-26)
Grippli, Arxus, and Dain are up!
Melea Shemroe |
Oh, whoops. I thought about that before I posted, went to get a drink, came back, and forgot, or something to that effect.
Arxus |
Arxus closes his eyes, and let's out a busy of holy energy.
channel to heal. Will probably get green and red baddies too, but want to get Dain and Archer up.
Channel Energy: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5
Then Arxus begins to approach these new rivals.

GM, with the table where it is, and Archer being prone, does he have cover?

Can I walk under the table that is next to me? I am all of 1'10" tall.

Awesome
"Come, Pig. The human with bow looks like he could use our help."

Luke_Parry |
Grippli retreats under the table, moving to assist the others.
Arxus sends out a wave of healing energy, which restores Archer to conscious, and closes over more of Dain's wounds.
Dain, still a little fuzzy, looks around for a ruby, and notes that the Blue thug has one.
One thug moves to put Archer back down...

wait! I wasn't botted after 24 hours! Archer was going to act, but I couldn't get a post in after asking about cover, to know what I could do. Here is what I was going to do.
First, he decides to heal himself. He casts cure light wounds, burning a bless spell, on he defensive, even though he has soft cover.
DC17 concentrationl: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Cure light: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Then as a swift, he will fervor heal.
1d6 ⇒ 3
Finally he stands, not provoking due to the cover of the table.
Why are we pushing this hard? Also, asking other GMs we should have gotten 1d4 rounds to heal between encounters, which we did not get. And now it appears my character is dead because of it. Yes, I have CON12, and if I don't get my action to heal in any way, and because I was down 15 going into this fight (when I would have had at least 3 rounds to heal with three encounters), I am dead. Sorry, but this is wrong.
Stabilize: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10

Fair enough. I take full responsibility for my error, apologise profusely, and opt to decline any further involvement in this scenario. I have asked Shifty to have one of the replacement GMs step in to take over, and be more competent. Hopefully, they provide you with a better experience.
Please take 3d4 ⇒ (4, 3, 2) = 9 rounds of actions, before continuing the combat.
I have now hidden this thread, so that I will no longer detract from your gaming experience any further.
Good luck!

Though I expect that you won't see this, I did not expect you to quit the game. I only wanted a retcon to fix the lack of healing. I apologize if I came across too harsh.
Dain Ironfoot |
Luke - it was an honest mistake. If you're negated the death and given us healing time I think we can move forward. I know I was 3 hp from death too. Just check the scenario instructions going foward. Just my 2 coppers :)
Melea Shemroe |
Indeed, this is a common mistake among multi-table specials. It happened at one when I was GMing Year of the Shadow Lodge. No need to sweat it.
@Dain: Curses, I was going to use that phrase and then I scrolled down the thread :)

***Overseer action***
Hi all - resetting the status of this encounter
The enemy breaks off as they are engaged by another group of ruby seekers. The blow on Archer was not as serious as it appeared and he is simply stunned and rattled - saved from a meeting with Pharasma by the blind luck of Desna.
Party out of melee - Archer, staggered on 0 hp and conscious.
GM Batpony will be picking up the game from here. He has been notified and we can now get back on track. Any other concerns just PM me.
GM Batpony |
As the place crumbles with more violence, a lot of people start thinking about how to escape the place safely. Anyone attempting to leave the front door with a ruby in hand is harassed, and it does not look pretty. The windows offer a potential escape but waters under it looks deep, another route is a hole in the middle of the tavern, which also drops the water, but is somewhat shallower.

Arxus |
if he does not have many rounds to heal, I would be willing to donate a few charges of CLW wand to speed things up
Arxus looks around, weighing his potential exit options... *gulp!*
"Uh, guys. I'm not a big fan of that swimming thing..." he says to his companions.
Melea Shemroe |
Doesn't it say 9 rounds? I don't mind either way, but perhaps we could use more time for healing and preparation.
Melea takes a wand out from behind her ear and taps herself twice and Galilah thrice. "I don' think Galilah is either, but I also din't think she could climb ladders on boats. Either way, it's that're the front door. Unless anyone else has an idea?"

Arxus |
Can the spell "Shatter" be used to destroy a *portion* of wall?
"Arxus will lead you to safety!" he says as he walks through his new 'door.'
Arxus is Pit-born, and has Shatter as a SLA instead of Darkness. And intends to destroy up to 40lbs. of wall to create an exit.
GM Batpony |
I just tried doing some mental arithmetic, taking into account the density of wood, you could create a hole, but you'd all have to crawl through one by one as oppose to walk through.
"Archer" |
"No, the water probably isnt the best choice! " says Archer, laden by his metal armor. "Chamius, could you fascinate the folks be the north doors, and allow us to get through?"
He thinks another moment, "Or, Grippli, you could calm emotions on those folks. Or do both, giving us more opportunity to make it through. I will guard the rear. Keep the gems split up, just in case."
Lets also take the opportunity to each spot a final gem... we might not actually trigger combats, per other friends playing.

Grandfather Grippli |
Perception!: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27
"Come, Pig. Our time here is at an end. We must leave this place."
Grippli looks around the room at all of his and Pig's past incarnations. He smiles and implores them to help once again.
Cast Calm Emotions. 20' radius centered on the north doors. DC 17 Will save.
The spectral gripplis and pigs begin smiling at the bar patrons. Soft music fills the air as the spirits start singing a lullaby.
"Thank you, Grandfathers. Come, Pig. Let us depart now."
Grippli and Pig walk towards the doors, picking up any stray rubies they find along the way.
"Archer" |
After picking up his bow, Archer follows Grippli out the door, everything at the ready, helping to pick up or stash any rubies. He tries to keep from violence.
GM Batpony |
The guards are searching thoroughly but you may be able to slip pass them.
will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
The thugs at the north door, start to become calmer, asking politely if folks have rubies on them, and ask nicely if they could receive those rubies, most patrons politely decline and the thugs let them out.
The pathfinders decide this is the best course of action is to leave the place before the fight gets more and more violent, as the rest of the room starts to have blood stains all over.
Unfortunately for the team this time, in the chaosness all the rubies have been found.
Outside of the tavern, you can do a few things, you are encourage to heal up, take rest, maybe find a suitable inn to stay or make preparations, shop even.
The closest available inn with vacancies is the Flying Alderman, a modest but comfortable establishment just over the border between the Docks and the Foreign Quarter.
"Archer" |
"That seems fine. I need to stop at the Grand Lodge if we can, though, since it might be good to get a pearl of power or two." says the Warpriest of Erastil. I think I should pick up some more arrows, as well. A lot more arrows."
He thinks a moment, and then says, "Then if we need to get a room,we should do that. "
Up to the GM and/or scenario if we can do any shopping?
did we find another ruby or more on our way out?
"Archer" |
Archer shrugs, "Seems fair. "
GM Batpony |
You were unable to successfully acquire more rubies on your way out.
Proximity wise you need to be within this area, so you wouldn't be able to head back to the grand lodge, however you may still make purchases following the PFS faction guide as appropriate.
"Archer" |
Archer calls in some favors, and transfers some cash, quickly receiving delivery of two pearls of power I (2x1000gp), a bundle of 100 more cold iron arrows (2 x5gp). He will also call a favor for a scroll of 5 spells of lesser restoration (2pp).
"Let's get a room or two. Keep 'me close. We want to guard our rubies, as someone will probably try and steal them. At least one guard awake at all times, right?"
Grandfather Grippli |
"It is just Grippli, Human Who Inspires with Voice. My Grandfathers are all around, as are Pig's Grandfathers. We call upon them to both aid and hinder. When we pass on to the Spirit Realm, then will we become Grandfather." Grippli nods and smiles at Chamius before scratching Pig behind the ears and walking away.
Meanwhile, at the Flying Alderman...
"Come, Pig. I believe we will need to put aside our non-violent ways for a time."
Grippli sits down a bowl full of acorns and truffles in front of Pig. A series of happy snorts and excited dancing is Grippli's reward. "Yes, yes. I know. You are welcome."
Grippli, sits on the floor. Pig starts eating, displaying a voracious appetite. Grippli's hands fall open, slack. His eyes close; his breathing measured and steady. His body stiffens before relaxing, as if his muscles froze and thawed. A smile forms. Grippli's head moves and his eye lids flutter. A silent laugh bubbles up before his body returns to his meditative state.
Pig crunches more acorns, looking for the truffles he smells at the bottom of the bowl.
Flames flicker around Pig's feet. The flames dance and leap about between Grippli and Pig. Grippli nods once and the flames disappear.
Pig's wispy beard grows thicker, longer. Munching on truffle, his beard snakes into three distinct sections; the outer two longer than the inner. The hair twists around itself becoming rigid in the process, forming wicked looking hooks at the end of each section.
Grippli's middle fingers combine; each hand now with just three fingers. The outer two fingers on each hand elongate and sharpen at the points. Grippli nods once and his fingers and Pig's beard appear normal once again.
"Did you enjoy your dinner, old friend?" Pig grunts once, nodding his head. "Good, good."
Grippli picks up the empty bowl, returning it to his pack. He grabs a small bag and picks out a few morsels from within. Pig snorts, tilting his head.
"Hm? Oh, these. Honeyed crickets. I have made friends with a few humans from desert lands. They told me their crickets and locusts were the best in all of the world. Yes, I also assumed they did not include the Spirit World. They are very tasty. They have a nice spiciness to them that is very pleasant on the tongue." Grippli smiles at Pig, scratching under his snout.
Melea Shemroe |
Melea follows the group to the inn, mostly watching Grippli with curiosity. She also keeps a weather eye on Galilah to make sure she doesn't try to savage the Pig, but she needn't have bothered: The leopard is very put off by the strange porcine fires, spirits, and dangerous levels of magical hair growth.

***OVERSEER ANNOUCEMENT***
Without warning, loud slamming noises echo through the tavern, even over the fray of the combat within. Moments later, the front doors rupture in a shower of splinters. In full battle regalia, a contingent of Absalom’s First Guard rush into the room. Swinging heavy chains and nets, they beat into the brawlers en mass, dragging dozens to the floor. The remainder of the contestants break from their opponents, and the crowd devolves into a raging mob as all race frantically for the nearest exit to avoid arrest.
If you are no longer in the tavern, this is more for your awareness...
Melea Shemroe |
"What devilry is this?" Melea cries, stowing her weapons but preparing to make a quick exit. "Are some of the contestants criminals? Is the contest legal at all? Is this part of the trial? It matters not, all that remains is to get out of here."
"Archer" |
We're already well out of the tavern, Melea -- I assume this was because of the fighting there... we have made it to the Inn.\
Arxus |
Arxus thinks back to how unorthodox the start of this competition was, and that he may need to prepare for various conditions.
While the party is acquiring gear, Arxus will purchase 3 Alchemist's Fire and 2 flasks of acid. For 80g.
"I can take first watch tonight, if the rest of you would like."
Melea Shemroe |
Oh, never mind, I thought that was talking about the inn.
"Archer" |
"Let's go with two watches. Grippli and Chamius have to sleep all night to recover spells, and Melea and I have to pray in the morning. Having darkvision is good for watchers. If Dain and Arxus each cover about three hours, I think we'll be fine on watches. What do you think?"
