Are we all going together, or splitting up?
Not sure. Posting has been slow and sporadic for a lot of folks, or they don't provide input on questions/decisions. The normal rule is, of course, don't split the party. And with four casters and an artifacty-type thing, I think it would be best if the party stuck together for now. Opinion?

I agree. I see no pressing need to split up.

"We look for... Beranto.... Beranto... Hey! Here!" Pinna waves at the rest and ducks inside.
It's a small shop. There are papers all over the place. Most of them have what appear to be rough drawings on them. There is a large blue man who looks like he's trying to organize things. (Although it looks to you like he may be failing in that.)
"Greetings and welcome, friends. You have the look of a group who is lost. Beranto can certainly help you find your way. What is it that you are trying to find?"
Elysia Lyon |
Clambers out of the sack...:P ...in general I'm likely to disappear on weekends. When I get onto Paizo at all it's usually just a quick check of FAWTL. For some reason my family thinks I should pay attention to them....not sure why. ;)
Elysia scrambles around the shop trying to see everything at once. She picks up papers at random and examines them, fascinated by all of these maps and drawings.
"WOW! So many maps. Maps mean places to go. I don't know if there's enough time in a lifetime to go to all of these places. Oh, but wouldn't it be fun to try!" she exclaimed, surprisingly enough tidying piles as she went.
Elysia Lyon |
Pinna follows Elysia around, easily looking over her shoulder at the various maps. "Elysia knows these places?"
"Not at all, but I'd like to! It's so much fun going somewhere new and seeing new things and meeting new people and wouldn't it be great to go and visit all of these places? Of course I'm pretty sure this one would require some special preparation," she added, holding up a map marked 'Briquet, small village, plane of fire', "but maybe someday I'll be able to manage it and won't that be something?"
Moff DM |
Pinna bows. "We seek, ah, Mechanus?" She looks uncertainly at the rest of the party. "Way to Mechanus and map of Mechanus?"
"'Mechanus' is easily found. But I suspect that isn't quite what you are looking for, now is it? You must know that many of the planes are infinite. 'Infinite' is pretty big. It might help to know what you were hoping to find. Otherwise, you might end up years from finding what you want."
Moff DM |
"There's a ... thing ... made on Mechanus. Need to find more about it. Who made it or how or where, maybe? Strange thing."
"That is all?" he says with what looks like a sly smile. "You seek information? I think that is not all, but you may not yet know exactly what it is you really seek. However, you should find answers to both your questions with the Guvners at the City Courts." He pulls a tube out of his cloak. He then pulls out a map and hands it to you -- it's a map of Sigil. He points to #11 in the Lady's Ward. "May you find what you need."
Moff DM |
Pinna shrugs and heads toward the Lady's Ward as indicated by the map.
Lady's Ward doesn't seem to be quite as crowded as Market Ward (where you just came from). The other thing that is immediately evident is that it is much cleaner. The buildings, especially, seem to be far better maintained.
Making your way past City Courts you easily find the Temple District. As you are walking past temple after temple, it appears to you that each building is trying to out-do the next one. The architecture is generally amazing. There are incredibly elaborate statues of various deities in front of each temple. The temple doors are often made with precious metals and gemstones. There are beautiful tapestries of various scenes in each religion's history. You also find that there are temples to pretty much every deity from Toril -- even ones you thought had died -- as well as a large number of deities from other worlds and other powers (many from the lower planes) attempting to gain a foothold into godhood.
You find the Temple of Lathander soon enough -- it's one of the ones that is glowing rather brightly.
As you enter the building, you see a rather handsome man with large feathery wings approach you.
"Welcome to the radiant light of Lathander. May his glory never fade. What can Lathandar's light do for you?"

"They're after me Lucky Charms!"
"...What a strange dream. I was floating like a balloon, and Pinna and Vortic were trying to get my delicious breakfast cereal. This is such a strange place."
<Notices string tied to wrist>
"So, what did I eat or drink that was drugged? And can someone turn down the temple?"

"I don't think it was drugged but you did have a very strange reaction to breakfast. I think you're allergic to something. You've been really out of it since then. The temple is a bit bright, but I like it. Except there's not enough color. This place really needs more prisms. Then they could make rainbows all over the walls. That would be so cool. I love rainbows. They're my favorite thing in the whole wide multiverse." ^.^

Vassago mumbles to himself. Tadpole, tadpole, tadpole, frog. Oops, no that was a tadpole. Frog is elusive.
He sighs. We are literally going in circles. Hypothetically, we venture into the Lady's Ward and find the Guvners at the City Courts, how are they going to know what device we're looking for and give us a location on how to find it? We don't even know what this device is to describe it. And if we bother explaining it, some may consider us mad ... or dangerous enough to become an obstacle to us and thus prevent our intended course.
He looks up to the 'sky' and all-around. Somewhere, there's a trickster god that's laughing at our expense.
He ponders for a moment. Vortic Sword-Wielder; surely your talking sword have more information on this device. Did he not work in collusion with other agents? Or am I mistaken?
Melek, you doddering fool ... what mischief did you get me into? I grow weary of a fool's errand...

Vortic shakes Alaric, "I don't know how this functions, or what is going on frankly." He sighs, "Is there anything else you can share, Alaric?"

Lanwin Fairweather wrote:"...My traveling companions and I find ourselves in a most peculiar situation and seek aid and guidance.""Is the 'peculiar situation' being here?"
"Yes, more or less. In truth, we are strangers, moved across the planes on some errand regarding a device constructed on Mechanus. It seems like that is to be our destination. Can the temple be of any aid? I assure you, already it has been a sight for sore eyes."

As for the Guvners ... There are a number of different "factions" that essentially run Sigil. Each faction also has a "headquarters" on a different plane. The Guvners' is on Mechanus in a rather large library of sorts.

"The church doesn't have much of a direct presence in Mechanus, so I'm not sure how much aid I can be toward that end. Since you are still looking for information about something that came from Mechanus, your best bet would be to look for information at the Guvners' library on Mechanus. However, you do seem to be new to Sigil, correct? I'm not sure that now would be a good time to go to the City Courts. With this new lightning happening, it's putting a lot of people on edge and the Harmonium has made even more arrests than usual. And besides, there's all the red tape you need to fill out just to even enter the building."
"It might be faster to get on your quest if you go to the Lazz School of Vivid Unpleasantness." (C40 in the Clerk's Ward.) "It's a school that teaches rather unusual forms of 'art'. Not really my thing, but it seems popular enough. The front door is a portal that takes people to the outskirts of The Fortress -- what the Guvners call 'The Fortress of Disciplined Enlightenment'. Kind of ironic really since the Guvners typically don't go anywhere near that place." He hands you a small three sided pyramid made of iron. "That is the 'key' that will activate the portal. It will only operate in this way during the 'twilight hours' of Sigil."
"Hopefully that will help you on your way. Is there anything else that I can assist you with?"
Moff DM |
Pinna cocks her head at the priest. "New lightning? Lightning not normal here? What makes it? Who is Harmonium? Why arrests?"
No, this lighning is not normal. It started only a few days ago. What is causing it is anyone's guess. But it's got a lot of people scared. There seem to have been two deaths caused by it already.
Harmonium is a faction that is the self-appointed "police force". If they see anyone doing anything that they even think might be questionable, they arrest them and take them to the City Court to take care of. Some of them take a little too much pleasure in their job. I feel that the lightning is causing people to act a little more cagey than normal hence the influx of arrests. I'm just glad that the Harmonium isn't also the faction to enforce the laws.

"Yep. That's definitely going on with me. Lightning. I guess I'd better watch out for the Harmonium."
Moff DM |
"What are the perils here?"
This may be one of the safer cities you will encounter. The Lady of Pain doesn't tolerate anything or anyone that might disrupt things here. For that reason, most things you might encounter here wouldn't be terribly perilous. It's also difficult at times to determine what might be considered enough to disrupt how things operate. There are the occasional deaths/murders, but almost never outright fighting in the streets. And people who go against the Harmonium end up either mysteriously dying or simply disappearing. So beings generally try to keep their noses clean here.

"Supposed to see Tripicus, somewhere around here. In Lady Ward. Is it safe?"
Is anything safe? We're on a trip to somewhere. Maybe it's an omen. Let us venture and see what he has to share with us.
Or shall we have to be persuasive... There are wayssss....

"Maybe, but stupid to get arrested here for nothing. Important NOT to get arrested, don't you think? Know what we go to, at least in the city?"

Seemingly oblivious to the conversation, Elysia has stacked a chair precariously on top of a pew and has climbed up on top in order to get a better look at a stained glass window.
<casts several instances of mage hand to tug at the legs of the chair ... and acts inconspicuous about it. very self-amused>

Lanwin continues his discussion with the priest, not really noting the insanity of his companions. "Thank you kindly. Also, I have found that I am unable to commune with blessed Lathander in this city. Is there a way?"
No. Many churches are hoping to be the first to actually have a divine presence in Sigil and are searching for ways to make it happen. Probably won't ever happen -- as long as the Lady in Pain is alive.

Reflec save:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Elysia lands on her butt as the chair clatters to the floor.
"OW!"
