"Was there a posted notice saying that we weren't allowed to have magical devices here? I certainly didn't see one," she said, with a charming smile. "It doesn't seem to me to be proper procedure to arrest visitors for violating the law without first notifying them that it exists and providing an opportunity for compliance."
"Ignorance of the law is no excuse. Hand over all magic items to Turic." As one of the boxes moves forward...

"Nuh-uh. That doesn't sound like law. That sounds like robbery."

Moff DM |

"Surely, we could pay a 1 silver piece fine for each offending item instead?"
"Bribing an officiating modron is also an offense. I repeat -- hand over all moneys and magic items immediately."
We may be getting into combat soon. I'm going to try and wait to give everyone a chance to post before then...

Sense motive - are we being railroaded? 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14 Plus one for planar effect: 15 Derp!
"What section and paragraph of the law are we violating? And where is your authorization to act on behalf of Regulus? Produce them immediately or let us pass!"
Intimidate 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16 Plus one planar: 17. Even computerized dice gods hate me.

Moff DM |

Quick reminder...
Pinna & Ra's-ug -- you feel at home here. You can't explain it, but somehow all this stuff kind of makes sense. You are at +1 on all Wisdom checks, +1 on all Will saves, and +1 on all Wis, Cha, & Int skill checks.
E. & Elysia -- You really feel uncomfortable here. Nothing seems to make sense to you. How things are laid out. The whole place just kind of feels ... off. You are at -2 on all Will saves. You are at -2 on all Wisdom & Charisma checks. You are at -4 on all Wis, Int, & Cha skill checks.
Lanwin -- Things don't seem quite as right here as you feel they ought to be. You are at -1 on all Will saves. You are at -2 on all Wisdom checks. You are at -2 on all Wis, Int, & Cha skill checks.
Sebastian & Vassago -- While you have slightly different issues with this place (Vassago has issues with how regimented the place and people are structured while Sebastian has issues with what he sees is a lack of caring), the effect is still the same. You are at -1 on Wis, Int, & Cha skill checks.
Probably won't have much effect in combat, but just in case...

Apparently, they hate him even more...
You betcha -- something is certainly wrong with this whole setup. At this point the quadrones (the boxes) are looking to the starfish to see what happens next.
He's not intimidated but he's pissed that you are wanting him to show you papers.

With this, I would normally be looking for initiative. However, I know that a number of people are MIA today due to school or other things (hang in there Patrick), so before I post initiative order, I want to make sure that everyone has a chance to check in and do anything with this exchange before combat. If you are around and don't have anything to add, post an "occ" saying to go ahead or something similar.

Sebastian D'Aubergine |

I can post for now. I don't know about the future. Feel free to GMPC Sebastian if needs be. He will resist taking his magic items
Sebastian takes in the scene of the modrons deanding the magic items with a stern look.
"Hold varlets! You are acting most chaotically for beings of Law. If I did not know better I would say you are attempting some sort of banditry under the guise of authority. Where is your warrant to claim magic items? Who is your superior?"
initiative roll if needed: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Vassago El-Vecchio |

Vassago chuckled at the ironic statement the daft halfling had made; nodding in agreement. After hearing Pinna's remark, it only confirmed what was about to happen next.
I am but a physical embodiment of all that is arcane. If I decipher your protocol correctly, you're demanding that I surrender myself? I can do you one better, my dear rambunctious rhomboidomorons. Allow us to educate you in the finer details of division, he replied icily.
Class is now in session. He steps back.

Moff DM |

Class is now in session. He steps back.
"Very well. The punishment for breaking the law is death."
Initiative Roll –
Lanwin – 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Elysia – 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
E. – 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Pinna – 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Vassago – 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Sebastian – 5
Ra’s-ug – 8
Bad Guys -- 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
The two large blue rectangles are large verticle gears that come up out of the gear you are on. To the south is essentially the edge of the gear.
So we have ...
Lanwin
Vassago
Pinna
Bad Guys
E.
Elysia
Ra's-ug
Sebastian
So, Lanwin, Vassago and Pinna are up...

Knowledge (Planes): 1d20+6-1
What can I ascertain about modron physiology with regard to strength and weaknesses, if any?
Modrons are living constructs. As such, they have elements that make them about what you would expect of constructs -- tougher skin, etc. -- but also similar weaknesses as living beings -- ability to be affected by critical hits, etc.
More specifically -- they are immune to poison, sleep, paralysis, disease, nausea, fatigue, energy drain, & exhaustion. They are subject to effects requiring a Fort save, critical hits, death from massive damage, non-lethal damage, ability damage, ability drain, death effects and necromancy effects. They can be subject to spells that target living creatures and/or constructs. Healing subschool spells are half as effective.
Also, again normally, it would be incredibly rare for a modron to have levels in any class.

Vassago El-Vecchio |

Since Lanwin is first, I'm spoilering for my turn so I can go off the radar as a storm is coming.
Step 5' right to T-16. Cast Magic Missile; all 4 to focus on the Pentadrone in V-11.
Spell Resistance: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
If I beat SR, then damage: 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 4) + 4 = 13
We must knock out the leader as these depend on hierarchy for tactical instruction and deployment. At range if you can do it now! You fighters should deploy to dispatch the grunts in close combat. Make it count!
Hopefully they hit harder than Vortic Sword-Wielder.

Moff DM |

Ok people. Don't forget Bless that just went up...
Pinna has attracted some attention...
Pentadrone...
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 24 if hits 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

Elysia...
Quadrone...
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 if hits 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
The last quadrone moved and cast a spell.
And with that...Here is the updated map.
E.
Elysia
Ra's-ug
Sebastian
Lanwin
Pinna
Vassago
Bad Guys

Elysia Lyon |

Elysia casts burning hands on the two modrons in front of her.
Casting defensively, DC 17 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
To overcome SR: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
Damage: Ref DC 16 for half, 5d4 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 2, 1) = 12
Edit:nevermind, spell doesn't go off. Dice roller still hates me. :(

Moff DM |

We'll move Sebastian in to try and run a little interference...
I'm going to move Sebastian to R14 and attack the modron in R13.
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16 if successful -- 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15 plus 1d6 ⇒ 4 electrical
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29 if successful -- 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 4) + 6 = 14 plus 1d6 ⇒ 3 electrical
EDIT: Potential Crit -- 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25 if successful -- 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6) + 6 = 13 plus 1d10 ⇒ 2 electrical

Moff DM |

To recap what has happened in round one (since I am notoriously bad at that...)
Lanwin cast bless from a wand.
Pinna moved around the pentadrone (the starfish looking one) and successfully hit once.
Vassago successfully hit the pentadrone with magic missiles.
Most of the modrons moved to melee (at least those that weren't already in melee) except for one and successfully hit Pinna, E, and Ra's-ug.
E moved up on the pentadrone and missed.
Elysia got all flustered having a modron move up on her and wasn't able to get her spell off.
Ra's-ug successfully hit one of the quadrones.
Sebastian successfully hit another of the quadrones.
Perception Rolls –
Lanwin – 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 6 - 2 = 9
Elysia – 1d20 + 0 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 0 - 4 = -1
E. – 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 11 - 4 = 20
Pinna – 1d20 + 15 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 15 + 1 = 18
Vassago – 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (15) + 3 - 1 = 17
Ra’s-ug – 1d20 + 12 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 12 + 1 = 33
Sebastian – 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (15) + 7 - 1 = 21
You are noticing that other Modrons are starting to notice your little combat.
There seems to be something about how the modrons that you are fighting that seems ... wrong. (At least compared to other modrons you have seen recently.)
Not that E. can communicate any of this...

Moff DM |

Lanwin takes a swing at the nearest modron.
5-foot step to U15 and attack the one in front of me with my mace. 1d20+10, 1d6+3 damage.
That one missed.
There hasn't been all that much movement, but here's the map as I understand it right now.

Vassago El-Vecchio |

Vassago could not determine what the lone quadrone had casted, so determined that the need was more urgent to focus on him. He leans back, winds his arm, and throws an acid orb.
Designation 800807734, prepare to receive further instructions.
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 8 + 1 = 11
If struck: 4d8 ⇒ (1, 7, 2, 4) = 14 damage.

That missed as well. The virtual dice don't like you. ;-)

Pinna |

Pinna taps into her self-discipline and unleashes a flurry of blows on the pentamodron, remaining in place for the moment.
Flurry of blows burning a ki point for an extra, electrical damage from the bracers:
One: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31 for 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 regular and 1d6 ⇒ 3 electrical
Two: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16 for 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 regular and 1d6 ⇒ 5 electrical
