"Oooooh. That didn't work."
Ok, Here is the updated map. I think that we can go ahead and start doing the initiative order thing...
I will try to keep things in the initiative order.
Vassago is first up.
Then the Abishai...
Then everyone else...
Vortic
Pinna
Elysia
E.
&
Lanwin.

Moff DM |

The abishai in front moves to O24 and tries to hit Pinna
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Pinna is taken a little off balance by the quickness of his attack and takes 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 plus 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5 acid and you need to make a Fort save (DC 16).
The other two use spell-like abilities --
E. needs to make a Fort Save (DC 13)
Pinna needs to make a Fort Save (DC 16)

Moff DM |

Spellcraft: 1d20+12
I looked at the PRD before typing this up, but I didn't see a distinction made identifying a spell vs. a spell-like ability being cast. If there is, let me know and I apologize.
Well in this case, since the DC is 15 plus the spell level, it really doesn't matter with a 14 result.
Personally I can see both sides of it. At the very least, I think it should be more difficult than identifying a normal spell. My gut tells me to add 5 to the DC. What do you think?

Vassago El-Vecchio |

I'm going to be gone for several hours. Here's my top of round two actions since the baddies already went.
in Infernal: The crazy man has a new set of instructions. JUMP!
<materializes>
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
SR: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Magic Missle (2) to J9: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 1) + 2 = 7 and (2) to M9: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 3) + 2 = 9

Moff DM |

Yea for learning experiences...
Ok, people are not flat-footed. Therefore the abishai missed Pinna.
After talking things out on the discussion thread, I believe that this is where people are now.
Now, Pinna -- you are wracked with pain. You fall prone from the pain and are "helpless". Blood also fills your eyes and you are effectively "blind". On your turn, you can attempt another save vs. the same DC. Success means that you are no longer "blind" or "helpless" but you will be "shaken".

Vortic of the Heights |

As discussed in the other thread, since we had a second round, Vortic switched weapons and readied to attack anything that moved into his threatened square. Now for the regular combat turn.
Vortic moves around the tree in the opposite direction, moving through squares 024, 023, 022, P21, then for double movement to Q22. He doesn't know what has happened to Pinna, and moves there to attack the Abishai.
He uses Vital Strike, Power Attack, and Furious Focus.
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 24. If hits 4d6 + 16 ⇒ (5, 4, 6, 2) + 16 = 33 plus 1d6 ⇒ 6 cold damage.
"Die dragon-fiend!" Vortic shouts as he attacks.

Vortic of the Heights |

Vortic of the Heights wrote:As discussed in the other thread, since we had a second round, Vortic switched weapons ...You're not using the weapon? Just checking...
Vortic doesn't feel right about it, it's his personal insecurity about using someone else as a weapon. It's only been a little while since he first found the guy/sword and it's hard for him to not think of Alaric as a person.

That's fine and understandable.
Vortic finds that while he hit strong and true, he didn't do quite as much damage as he felt he should have been able to do.

Pinna |

Pinna drops to the ground in a quivering heap of robes and feathers as the pain sets in, long training coming in handy to hold back shrieks of pain. She tries to shake off the effects of the nasty beastie, and fails. She can do no more than mewl with pain.
Retry fort save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Updated stat block with conditions.

Vassago El-Vecchio |

After talking things out on the discussion thread, I believe that this is where people are now.
Minor quibble, but I'm at X-17. Your map shows me at X-18.

Elysia Lyon |

Elysia assesses the situation. She bites her lip and frowns. So tempting to use the rod, but this looks like it might be more of a good time for fire. She sends a fireball towards the abishai guarding the gate.
Ref DC 18 for half. Damage: 7d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 3, 5, 3, 2, 6) = 23
"I'm probably gonna start a forest fire and then everybody will be mad at me again and nobody will want me around, but I don't know what else I'm supposed to do and I don't like these beasties and why is it that all the pretty creatures are trying to kill us anyways?" she thinks to herself.

E. |

E. wrote:<Fires Ray of Shooting Stars at abishai's corner furthest from Pinna>I believe that this too is fire damage. Since you would be able to see the spectacular display at the arch/portal and how well it failed, I'll allow you to change you action if you so desire...
You are correct.
Crossbow attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 for 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 damage.

Moff DM |

Crossbow attack: d20 + 10 for d6 + 1 damage.
This missed.
Lanwin moved.
Vassago cast magic missile and damaged both abishai at the portal.
Which brings us to their turn...
Vassago needs to make a Will Save (DC 13)
Elysia needs to make a Fort Save (DC 13)
The abishai near Pinna and Vortic turns on Vortic...
Is there cover from the tree if combatants are diagonal? If so, he'll move 5 feet.
Sting -- 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27 if hit 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 plus 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10 acid plus make a Fort Save DC 16
Sting -- 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23 if hit 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 plus 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10 acid plus make a Fort Save DC 16
Claw -- 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 if hit 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Claw -- 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 if hit 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Bite -- 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 if hit 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Looks like two hits and need one save.
I believe that this is where everyone is at this time.
And Vortic is up...
Then Pinna
Elysia
E.
Lanwin
and top of the round with Vassago...

Vortic of the Heights |

Vortic is in the wrong location. Move him one square right to Q22 not P22. He moved there because there would be no cover on his attacks (can't attack through the tree according to this.
Fort 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26 against the tail attack.
Vortic makes a full attack against the Abishai at Q21, following that constant set up of Furious Focus and Power Attack.
1st attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26 for 2d6 + 16 ⇒ (6, 6) + 16 = 28 and 1d6 ⇒ 5 cold.
2nd attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26 for 2d6 + 16 ⇒ (6, 4) + 16 = 26 and 1d6 ⇒ 2 cold.

Pinna |

Pinna struggles to throw off the effects of the horrid magic.
Fort save (free): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Shaking off the pain, she blinks, rolls to her feet and croaks 'Thank you' to Vortic. She crouches in front of the halfling, raising her crossbow. "Careful of pain," she squawks loudly enough for Lanwin and Vortic to hear. "What is the plan?"
Double move to stand, retrieve crossbow (if dropped - couldn't find that anywhere), and step to O-24 to provide soft cover for Lanwin and get clear for a shot. Condition: shaken for 1/10 rounds.

Moff DM |

If I do a Knowledge (planes): 1d20+6, will that tell me anything more about them with regard to vulnerability?
EDIT: at that roll, I'm guessing not. Heh.
Well, you know that they are immune to fire.
Waiting for Pinna to do her action.
One thing to note -- for those of you who might have some experience with summoned creatures -- the dead abishai is still there...

Moff DM |

Crossbow (on the abishai which is still moving): d20 + 10 for d6 + 1 damage.
E's having difficulty hitting the vile creatures with his crossbow.
Lanwin cast a spell to help Pinna.
Assago cast an orb that hit the paralyzed abishai -- but barely got past its damage reduction.
The last abishai moving charges in to hit Vortic...
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17 -- if hit 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 plus 2d6 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11 plus Fort Save DC 16.
Which should bring us back to Vortic.
Here's the map. (I believe ... for some reason I've had issues tracking people with this one...)
Then Pinna
Elysia
E.
Lanwin
Vassago
