Vortic of the Heights |

Again with the full attack on the one that just charged. Vortic yells out, "Run up behind me, Fiend, and you'll still die!" Power Attack and Furious Focus, once again. His face contorts in a dreadful smile.
First attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27 for 2d6 + 16 ⇒ (2, 3) + 16 = 21 and 1d6 ⇒ 6 cold.
Second attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 for 2d6 + 16 ⇒ (5, 2) + 16 = 23 and 1d6 ⇒ 6 cold.

Since I'm not sure I'll have internet when I get home...
** spoiler omitted **
I'd re-think that. I think Vortic did enough damage to slay the other. The third is paralyzed. In fact, I'd likely yell at the top of my lungs for you not to do it. :)

This is exactly the case. Wow. Even with DR 10, you still did 44 points of damage. I think that most of combat is done with this. The last abishai will stay paralyzed for another 11 rounds.
What are you going to do now?

Vassago El-Vecchio |

I am of the opinion that once she sees what had occurred, she may likely change her mind. She was obviously going by the presumption that Vortic hadn't dropped the foe. With that in mind...
With a sense of urgency in his voice, he speaks aloud enough for anyone to hear.
I wouldn't do that, young lady. The rod has already served its purpose as you can plainly see. We must conserve our remaining resources and get through that portal as I do not want to be around when more of these arrive ... they may even be coming as I speak! He <points to E.> has the compass whereas I have the drawing of the door. Once we assess the situation beyond the portal, we will need to find a secure place to rest. Now...let us make haste!
As he moves toward the portal, he makes one last comment.
One gets the sense this is a rare compliment ever paid by an individual of his nature.

Pinna |

"Killing it seems needless. We ought to go through the portal."
Pinna looks at Lanwin doubtfully. "One less to attack carrot-man, one less to tell the tale. Sorry, but it should be dead."
She draws her temple sword and moves toward it intending to deliver the coup.

Elysia Lyon |

Yay, I have internet! And yes, I didn't realize that Vortic had dropped that last one when I posted my action.
Elysia lowers the rod and shrugs. The way this day was going there would surely be another opportunity to see what happened.
"So are we going to go through the portal now? I wonder where this one leads. So many interesting places so little time to explore them. I hope we have more time at the next place we visit. Also I hope that they don't have quite so much things trying to kill us. Once is interesting. After that it loses its charm. Too repetitive, you know?"

Moff DM |

<Pulls out compass again>
"Let's see exactly where this portal is..."
Through the device, you can tell that the portal is right in the archway that the two trees make. The destination of this portal is some place called "Sigil".
I'm looking for closure with the remaining abishai before I continue much more...

It matters not to me whether it lives or dies. The only thing I may point out is the law of reciprocity. It was only moments ago where you were the one helpless. If the roles were reversed, would you have wanted to live to see another chance, another time? What does your monastic training tell you?
Vassago says this with the glib tongue of a devil's advocate; being ever so ironic.
Regardless, we must go to this ... Sigil. And seek rest.
You elude me still, Melek Taus. Time is on your side. But only for so long, he said to himself.

"The beast deserves nothing from us, but I hesitate to kill an unworthy foe." Vortic approaches the creature, "Who is your master? Why'd they send you to stop us?"
Intimidate 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

Can you disrupt a spell-like ability?

I assume so. They function just like spells (barring the obvious removal of components) and they have concentration checks for them in stat blocks. That implies to me that I could ready an action when it casts to attack it and force a concentration check.
Edit: Also, spell-like abilities provoke, so you might have to cast defensively... except I'd have a ready action. Action stacking is weird. :(

Vassago El-Vecchio |

Pinna chuckles deep in her throat at Vassago's speech. "Easy words, Man-With-No-Name. Vortic and sharp steel saved Pinna, not mercy, not law. But Pinna will hold her blade if men think it is best, or if creature can serve, not destroy."
Vassago hisses, then pronounce judgment. It serves only one master and Her word is Law. We stand as jury. Execute.

Hmmm. Ok, trying to do a little backwards compatible...it seems like a lot of the outsiders (demons/devils/etc.) have a concentration check that is roughly HD + 5.
He growls and says -- "The crazy one will deal with you." -- and attempts to teleport. Concentration Check --> 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21.
EDIT -- with your readied action, I don't see how he can cast defensively in this case. Feel free to try and hit.

1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33 for 4d6 + 16 ⇒ (2, 4, 6, 6) + 16 = 34 plus 1d6 ⇒ 5 cold.

And then there's this. Just trying to get a feel for what's going on... If Pinna kills the creature, then Vortic's actions are moot. If Pinna waits, then we'll go with the readied action...

Moff DM |

"Come along, we shouldn't let him run off on his own."
I'm going to assume that everyone will follow suit.
You emerge into ... rain. Well, not quite rain -- kind of that part rain, part drizzle, part mist stuff. Just enough to be wet and annoying. It also doesn't seem to be quite water...
The next thing you notice is that there are a lot of creatures here. A few seem to be in a bit of a panic, but most seem to be just minding their own business. Then you notice what kinds of creatures there are. And, well, there are all kinds. There are demons, devils, angels, ones that look like machines, ones that seem to have fire for hair, some that have very animalistic features, ones that look like animals themselves, ... you get the idea. If there was a "minority" here -- you'd probably be it.
Taking a closer look at your surroundings, you seem to be standing on the outskirts of a marketplace as though you just came out of the alley just behind you.
That's all pretty "normal".
Then there's a flash of light -- kind of like lightning -- and you look up and you see a giant spire that goes through the sky sideways -- well "sideways" depending on which way you are facing. And on the other side of the spire you can just make out buildings -- you seem to be standing on the inside of a giant ring. The flash of light came from the spire which seems to be discharging different colored lightning.

Pinna |

"Interesting!" Pinna crows, peering around for any other tengu, but keeping a close eye on the bearer of the 'compass' to ensure they don't go too far. She fluffs her feathers against the wet. "Where we go now?" She peeks behind them into the alley, then sidles toward the nearest market stall to see if anything shiny is for sale.

Moff DM |

"Where we go now?"
That's the question of the day. I'm going home now. Interact with each other, ask questions about what you see or things that you are looking for specifically. I'll catch up tonight and post more. Just kind of looking for direction from you on where you want to go and how you think you're going to get there. A few things I will mention before I go...
Rain -- after a couple of minutes, the rain stops. It's still a little foggy. It's kind of odd -- you can see farther looking up than you can looking down the street.
Standing around -- the longer you stand around the more likely you will attract attention.
The compass -- Looking through the compass gives you some idea of just how many "magic doors" there are -- a lot. However the compass doesn't seem to be pointing in any specific direction right now.

Vortic Sword-Wielder, I've a feeling we're not in Toril anymore, Vassago deadpans.
He takes in the sights and watches the hustle and bustle of an array of diverse denizens scamper about. For an atmosphere quite alien, he seemed quite at ease.
So ... this is Sigil. Given the odd pairings present, I'd suggest whatever preconceived racial notions you might have; suspend them. Since we're in civil-ization, they ought to have a tavern of sorts. I don't know about the rest of you, but I sure am famished.
Would Vassago be able to know of any previous lore concerning Sigil given his time in Thay? Maybe it was brought up in studies? Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
EDIT: He was probably napping that lesson

Vassago El-Vecchio |

<casts mage hand, tugs on E.'s collar>
Not so fast, little one. We do not want to lose you quickly amongst the throng. Surely you're hungry. I bet they have delicacies around these parts you'll never experience back home. We should indulge.
<he tugs at his collar a little more>
Agreed, Vortic Sword-Wielder. Rest is imminent.
