Question: I assume (I know, Benny Hill)
I assume that the group is picking up the loot in Magnimar for me, and thus I can't sell an old piece of equipment to put towards the price of a new piece, since that would leave me currently without the benefit of that equipment?
Your assumption would appear correct.

I wouldn't necessarily rush to that conclusion. Vethran is quite strong at item creation so the polearm could be disposed of for cash and then Veth could make whatever (or, indeed, add to existing items, like Nualia's Tongue - it would be a shame to lose that since you'd named it and referred to it in virtually all combats) once you return, either in Magnimar - or indeed back in Turtleback Ferry or Fort Rannick.

To be fair, Vethran only has Craft Wondrous Item and Scribe Scroll. Lacking Craft Magic Arms & Armor would prohibit the manufacture and augmentation of weapons and armor, unfortunately.

Right on; might need to modify my purchases then.....

Vethran spends the first day making some quick purchases before Illes and Elisile go out hunting for buyers.
1125gp - scroll of teleport
700gp - scroll of scrying
410gp - inks for magical inscription of the aforementioned
Total: 2235gp
He then spends the balance of the day scribing those scrolls into his book and setting up his workshop. He has read magic prepared, so automatically deciphers the writings. The Spellcraft DCs to understand the spells are 20 and 19, so taking 10 with Vethran's +18 succeeds with ease.
I will still need a silver mirror worth 1,000gp to use as a focus for scrying, however. Vethran doesn't have the funds for that until we start selling stuff. I spent most of my personal wealth on the above.
Elisile Starbrow |
Excellent, we almost have everything we need for scry and fry tactics.
Given that it would be good to be able to locate the rest of the group as soon as possible, Elisile is happy to pay some of the cost of the mirror at this stage. In fact, I think she can afford the total 1000gp cost, though it will leave her near broke.

Vatters, I'm trying to find the relevant post by you, but I can't: can you confirm, Aggnar (sp?) is a Shundar-Quar living with the Shadde-Quar?
Also, I've checked your route. Riddleport is much closer to where the Shadde-Quar live, so you would go there and cross the Caliphiak Mountains on land to reach your village. So you have a trip to Riddleport in store.

Oh, and I assume y'all have seen this little gem, right? I would definitely take his classes...

Fatespinner, while checking out the new pbp setup that Gary rolled out today, I remembered a conversation you and I had in the chat room ages back, when I offered you a space in my (unoptomised) Age of Worms pbp game if you wanted it, when we hit the next chapter. We'll we're at about that point now, and there's a space for you if you're still interested.

Absolutely. I know absolutely nothing about the AoW storyline, though, and would essentially be coming in blind (relying on the other PCs to fill in my character unless you wanted to give me a recap on what has happened so far and a reason to know it in-character). Looking at your current party, I see a fighter, a rogue, a cleric, a druid, a wizard, and a ranger/rogue all in the level 3-4 range. I'd probably be looking to bring in either a magus or an inquisitor since you've got the 4 cornerstones pretty well covered. I might do a bard as well, probably using one of the UC archetypes if you're okay with that. Let me know! :D

The rogue and the druid are no longer current players, but yeah, the four 'base' classes are pretty well covered. APG and UC stuff is generally ok, just run it by me. If I get a chance later today I will post to that game's discussion thread with character creation guidelines.

Ah, okay. I'll probably do a bard then since your only "rogue" is multiclassed. I'll keep an eye out for the chargen guidelines. Looking forward to it!

Hey Vatters, nice one! Nice to hear you are reunited.
Re knowing the rules, at the very least you will need a 4e PHB. Not knowing the setting is less of a handicap, as I can provide a potted summary - most people in Dark Sun don't actually know much anyway.

Incommunicado until Monday morning.
By the way, guys, I'm feeling a bit like I'm talking to myself here. Are there any problems? This game will slow to a crawl if everyone else waits for someone else to make a decision.
Everything fine at this end. I think the party split has a big effect. Camlo at least is sort of tagging along for a bit now, so isn't going to be very vocal.
Although if embarrassing Hudak is an option.......

I've been making some chilly morning bike rides to work, that's for sure.
We are avoiding the center during protests and stuff so mostly it is just the inconvenience of everything being on strike constantly. I'm trying to find a day to go pick up my new residency permit, but I can't find a day when they actually go to work.
Still- the feeling of uncertainty as to what the hell is going to happen here is palpable. Massive changes need to be made, but it seems like an awful lot of them are targeting the poor and middle class. We'll see what happens. Businesses are closing everywhere and anytime I go anywhere there are immigrant scrap metal collectors pushing shopping carts bundled to three times their capacity full of scavenged metal. I never saw that kind of thing when I moved here. It looks kinda Mad Max.
