Ruscer |

Ruscer pauses and considers letting the loud mouth handle the two spiders himself. He wants to see if the loud mouth can live up to his boasts. Something about this groups seems to pull at him. Instead he takes aim at the spider and hopes the arrow meets the correct target.
Ok we are shooting at s3 and using Twin strike. If I understand this correctly dex +9 vs ac so
Dex: 20 + 9 = 29 vs AC
Damage for 2 strikes.
1d8 ⇒ 7
1d8 ⇒ 8

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |

OK, per the description of Twin Strike, you need to make two attacks, so you need to roll another attack. Also, you rolled a 20 for the first attack, which is a critical. On a critical, you maximise the damage, so 7 damage turns to 8. Also, a magic weapon (which you wield) does extra damage on a critical - that's 1d8 per the description of your Bow of Speed (not maximised, you have to roll that).

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |

wellllll........ he didn't roll a 20, that was typing a 20. talking to him, he thought that "Dex +9" meant his DEX (20) plus 9. so he should do at least two d20 rolls.
OK, that's fine. Please note, however, that this game is not intended as a tutorial on playing 4e. I'm very happy with everyone who is taking part, and there are varying levels of familiarity with the 4e rules here, which is also fine. But if you don't have access to a copy of the 4e PHB and at least a passing familiarity with it (and not necessarily more than that - this isn't about being able to quote rules at me) I'd be grateful if people could at least get one and flick through the rules for their character class and also for combat. I want to reiterate, I'm enjoying the party make-up and the players, but explaining every rule as it comes up isn't what this game is about.
Ruscer, two attack rolls please.

Ruscer |

Ruscer takes a breath to steady his hands. He focuses on his target until he sees nothing else.
Use Hunters Quarry to designate s3. Then Twin Strike again.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 vs ac
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19 vs ac
for hits...
damage
1d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
and for Hunters Quarry if one hits
1d6 ⇒ 6 applied to either. Same target for both so does not matter.
Think that is right this time.

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |

Gah! My fault, I copied forward the wrong initiative list. This is the right one. But... your go was right on the money in terms of what you should do - paint the target with Hunter's Quarry as a minor and let rip with an attack as a standard. We can use those rolls for when your turn comes up again. Sorry for mucking up the order - yes, your position is permanently changed by a delay.
Initiatives:
Arakan 16 (invisible to S2)
Jareen 13 (delaying)
Furio 12 (possibly prone, taking 5 ongoing poison damage)
Spider 11 (S2 marked by Furio)
Kal 5
Ruscer 4
Gart 3
In fact, it seems to be a double screw-up from me - it actually seems to be Gart's go. Damn amateur DMs...
Gart.

Gart |

well i must have messed up too because if i knew it was my turn i would have said something.
also, that map link does not work, at least not for me.
Gart will double move to 19J (wanted to use my power to give Furio another attack but i don't think i can if i can't see him since my character wouldn't even know what he is up to up there)

It's a bit worse than that. The range of Commader's Shout in "Melee", which means you need to be in melee range - i.e. adjacent - to the target.
Now it's Arakan.

ouch, that marginalizes its utility even further...

Arakan |

Considering them just stupid critters, the spiders that is not his allies, Arakan tries to ride up and hope to scare them off with a 'show of force'. He rides up to just behind Furio on his Crodlu, before he lets out a shout, intended to get them to run off. It may be the canyon, but the sound of it is amplified to sound louder than could be expected from the man.
Move, on Crodlu to L/M 12-13
Free, Bluff as Primal user 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
Standard, Shout of Triumph in N/O/P 13-15, close blast 3, each enemy
Spider 2 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 vs Fort
Spider 3 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 vs Fort
Damage 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 Thunder
On a Hit: targets pushed 1 sq (S2 to Q13, S3 to P13)
Effect: (if S3 gets pushed) slide each ally in blast 1 sq (Furio and his Crodlu up one row to N/O 13-14)

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |

Arakan gives his amplified roar and the two spiders are blasted back, hairy legs quivering. Although his subterfuge is poor, the rest seem not to notice his use of arcane magic, probably as they are still distracted by Jareen blatant use. Furio moves up, following the spiders.
I'll updated the map tonight - working from a hard copy at work to keep things moving.
Jareen.

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |

One thing you got wrong - a crit does maximum damage automatically. So the extra damage you did was all correct, but your initial attack did 17 damage. So it's 17 (max damage with a gouge) + (extra 1d6 for magic weapon) 5 + (extra attack from magic weapon power - which hit) 12 = 36 damage.
Furio gives his arachnid opponent the old one-two. It slumps to the canyon floor, carapace cracked, body fluids gushing through the hole Furio ripped in it.
S3 down. You still have a move and a minor if you want it.

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |

The spider backs up, waving its forelegs in the air, then launches forward at Furio with its fangs. It then leaps away, regarding the battle from the distance of the far canyon wall.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 v AC to hit, damage 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13 plus 5 poison ongoing damage. It then jumps to AA8, which doesn't provoke an attack of opportunity.
Kal.

Th'Kal |

Th'Kal comfortingly pats his crodlu on the neck and quickly tries to get after the jumping spider.
Double move to T9
Th'Kal: 35/35 HP; +0 temp; 10/10 surges; 1/1 AP
Encounters Used: Psychic Surge
Dailies Used: <none>
Crodlu Mount: 35/55 HP and prone

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |

Arakan |

Arakan squeezes his crodlu past Furio in the canyon, following the fleeing spider. He reloads his hand crossbow before firing it at the critter.
Move to S/T 11-12
Standard, Sly Flourish 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22 damage 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
