Oh! thanks for the in-depth look-over.
re: EQUIPMENT
Having done some reading, i saw it referenced that a totem could also be a weapon, like a mace or spear? I like the idea of a totemic spear or something like that.
re: STATS
I will change my stat array, i only put into INT because i wanted to be able to give more temp HP with that feat, which i guess i had wrong. I'll drop INT back down to 10 and focus CON as a secondary. I thought all three were important.
re: FEAT
i will pick a feat. what would you all recommend? i was thinking something to boost my AC or HP (as my spirit's AC/HP is the same as mine). i was also thinking maybe something having to do with totems to make my totem better or give me another power?
re: BASIC ATTACKS
Am i correct in that my attacks with spear/javelin would be STR + the proficiency listed (+2) for the weapons only (and not WIS)? And for powers that require attack roll, it would be simply WIS to hit plus any totem bonus?
EDIT
re: INHERENT BONUS
i couldn't find that bonus in the basic DS supplement, could you tell me what they are so that i may apply them?
re: AT WILL ATTACKS
i thought i was supposed to have two? I have Protecting Strike and Defending Strike.
Cahel |
Thinking on feats....
- Hide Armor Proficiency could get me some better armor (could go chain but that is probably rare...?). Taking this, i could later take Hide Armor Expertise to use my CON instead of INT or DEX for AC.
- Implement Expertise would give me a bonus to hit.
aside from one of those or any suggestions provided, I will probably take Strengthening Spirit, which gives temp HP to those near my spirit.

EDIT
===================
Cahel's sheet should be done, barring clarification on:
- whether or not i get another at-will attack
- what the inherent bonuses are for DS characters
- what, if any, equipment i have other than totem, spear, 1 javelin, and leather armor.
Aubrey the Malformed |
The inherent bonuses are on p209 of the DS book (Fixed Enhancement Bonuses, strictly speaking) which make up for the lack of magic items.
You look fine with your At Wills.
Any of those feats would be a good choice. There is also a feat to allow you to make basic attacks with your spear off WIS, since you mentioned it. Debatable how immediately useful that will be, since you would be most likely to be attacking with powers, but it could come in handy on occasion.
You will have five survival days, a few more javelins. Re magic items, I'll check what other people have and provide through the game.
On your sheet I would calculate the actual To Hit and damage bonuses. You don't want to have to work them out each time, it'll be a drag.
Cahel |
Alrighty, I will calculate those as well.
I'd like to swap the Shared Healing Spirit feat for the Hide Armor Proficiency feat, as I am a bit worried about my defense (and that of my spirit).
Cahel |
forgot to note, i took the following wild talent. was going to pick the telekinesis one, but this one made more sense for someone who was primarily a farmer.
Mental Tools: Wild Talent, Cantrip, At-Will, Psionic
Minor Action Personal
Effect: You create a simple tool you can hold in one hand. The object appears in your hand or at your feet. You can not use the object to attack or hinder another creature. The object lasts until the end of the encounter or until you use this power again.
Aubrey the Malformed |
By the way, I'm afraid you can't select Spirit of Vigour as a feat. It has a prerequisite of having the Elemental Spririt class feature and you went for the Protector Spirit. So Th'Kal doesn't get 5 temporary hit points and you need to reselect a feat.
Cahel |
oh, curses. I must have skimmed past that, thinking that Elemental Spirit was a default feature of Shaman.
Which would you all recommend between Superior Implement Training and Totem Expertise? I will probably pick one of those two (neither of which will affect the current round)
Aubrey the Malformed |
Furio, you might want to look at your AC - it seems to be too low. My rough calculation is 17, and I might have left something out.
EDIT: in fact, it seems to be 18. That's:
10 base
+2 level
+1 DEX
+1 inherent
+1 gladiator
+3 hide armour
Might come in handy. I might check your other defences later but the wife is telling me I need by beauty sleep.
Aubrey the Malformed |
OK, here's a look at your other defences:
Fort is 20:
10 base
+2 for being a fighter
+2 level
+4 CON
+1 inherent
+2 item
(-1 as item and inherent bonuses don't stack - or rather, they are both enhancement bonuses)
Reflex is 16:
10 base
+2 level
+1 DEX
+1 gladiator
+1 inherent
+2 item
(-1 as item and inherent bonuses don't stack)
Will is 15:
10 base
+2 level
+1 WIS
+1 inherent
+2 item
(-1 as item and inherent bonuses don't stack)
Hope that helps. And you still haven't changed that useless Daily yet.

part of why i liked the idea of a half-giant is that they generally conform to group norms, shifting their points of view to better fit in.
so, Cahel would be looking to the majority of the group for cues as to whether this arcane magic is OK, and corroborating that with the fact that he feels no life drain and/or sees no life drain in the ground (no dirt turning to ash, etc), and the nature spirits likely not screaming "defiler" to him as signs that Jareen's magic is likely tolerable.
i figured it'd be better then going in depth into the whole defiler piece each time a new cast member arrives.
i had planned to mention it, but not immediately. definitely not during combat.
Cahel |
i think my spirit would be whatever the DS analog of a bear would be. i tried to describe that a bit, paged through the bestiary looking at pictures for inspiration. as for a name, probably not anything that could be easily pronounced...
Aubrey the Malformed |
Heathy has dropped me a line saying he is struggling a bit at the moment with life issues and may have to step away from the keyboard for a brief spell. Hopefully he'll be back soon, but in the meantime you guys will have to run Furio for this combat.
Furio Tembo |
Hello,
I think I'm going to take a hiatus for a while from pbp.
I have so much crap to do that when I get free time I'm a zombie and can't hardly function, or I spend a long bit figuring out what the hell is happening and every time I get back into it, guess what: it's time to flake off again for a week.
In the future when I seem to be able to be involved with this form of gaming in some sort of fruitful way I'll let everybody know and see what/where/when is good to pick up the pieces and go on.
But, I am at least putting my pbp games on hiatus for the nonce.
I will check back in whenever I'm not so damn busy that I can pay rudimentary attention to what the hell I'm doing.

Guys, I'm thinking of running a Wrath of the Righteous PbP here. I say "thinking" because it would be an additional commitement of time, albeit I don't plan anything that would be at much variance to the scenarios as written. Would people be interested? I'd be looking for the usual six or so players.
Nevynxxx |
Oh mym, how I have lost track, an AP I'd never even heard from.... I used to subscribe! How my life has twisted..... Ok, first half of the first sentence of that description has me hooked.
I'd be there....
Aubrey the Malformed |
Ok then, I'll set up a Discussion thread. We'll see if we need to recruit depending on the response to this.
Indeed, here it is.
Arakan |
I'm up for a WotR, depending. I have a concept that I've been unable to play at all in a WotR. It is a Self-hating Tiefling Paladin of Iomedae. Would that be allowed? If so, I would love to get in on it.
Th'Kal |
I just realized, I never did pick my 4th level feat.
I had a few options, but does anyone have any suggestions for a good pick. I was considering the following:
Defense-Type Feats:
- Superior Fortitude (+2 fort & resis3 vs ongoing dam)
- Superior Reflexes (+2 ref & gain CA in first round)
Healing-Type Feats:
- Improved Rageblood Vigor (temp hp increased by 5 which is a big boost)
- Warlord Multiclass (extra heal & training in Endurance... never a bad thing)
Surge-Type Feats:
- Durability (2 extra surges)
- Swift Recovery (+3 surge value)
Combat-Type Feats:
-Monk Multiclass (nice extra attack power & training in Stealth or Thievery Skill to back-up Arakan)
Any thoughts anyone?
The non-AC-Defense bonuses are always welcome, as would be the healing feats...
Aubrey the Malformed |
It's really up to you. That said, as a character class you sort of straddle striker and defender. It depends if you want to emphasise damage-dealing ability or damage-withstanding ability. If it was me, my shortlist would be Weapon Focus, one of the Superiors, or Swift Recovery.
However (and this is not just for Th'Kal), we might also need to think about what to do with Furio. I generally dislike dragging DMPCs around and most people don't like running other people's characters either, but he is the specialist defender. If we were to temporarily (I believe that Heathy will return sooner or later) remove Furio from rhe scene it would make the game run more smoothly, but it does take that useful marking ability out and obviously reduces party headcount. I'm not, at this point, inclined to recruit. And if we don't have a defender, we might need a more durable barbarian striker.
Th'Kal |
I don't mind running him. It wasn't a huge issue... plus it keeps a meat shield in front of Th'Kal. 'Kal can't really be a good defender, he has no marking ability.
That said, we *could* run without a defender. We'll just have to move slowly and keep our healers rested. I'm also good with someone else running Furio, if they want.
Arakan |
Sorry for my recent silence. I have a business trip coming up next week and have been trying to prepare. I promise I will post tomorrow. I may have more time for posting next week depending on how good the wifi is at the hotel (since I will have nothing but time at the hotel).
