Guys, it's looking like, at the least, Heathy won't be back to play Furio for a while, and quite probably never. On that basis, assuming you are fine with it, I'd like to advertise for a replacement defender. Assuming no strong feelings against it, I'll stick out something on the recruitment thread tomorrow. Any new PC can come in simply as an existing guard in this caravan.

Well, he's currently studying for accountancy as well as working, so things aren't "bad" but he's very time-limited. I recently PM'ed him through Facebook and he said studies were likely to carry on for another eighteen months and that he didn't think he'd be able to participate for that length of time. That's quite a long time to get out of the habit of posting, other stuff intrudes, and so on. So I think it's best to get someone new. There's no reason he can't come back later if he so desires.

Morthak the Mad |

Hello all, I'm one of the new recruits! =) I've been around the boards and PbP a while, so I'm pretty familiar with the flow. Generating a 4e character took a bit of reach back into dusty archives, though. I admit to being pretty rusty, so if you see a glaring error, bad decision, or I do something Pathfinder-y, please call me out.
Morthak is actually a re-tooled character from Aardvark's short-lived Dark Sun PbP from a few years ago. I'm happy to bring him up from Pixel Limbo. His build is a dwarf wild battlemind, using mostly feats and powers from the DSCS and PHB3. I still need to buy equipment, but I'm not sure what my starting gold should be yet.
I'm really glad to join in... Dark Sun *is* my favorite all-time campaign setting, so any chance to return to the crimson sands is one I'm happy to take!

Hi Morthak/Nomad.
As a quick comment, your character sheet needs to be built out so someone else can use it, in case you are away and we need to NPC you. Have a look at one of the others and choose a format you like.
Secondly, and coincidently, the party is currently being attacked by the Black Sand Raiders as we speak. Your backstory might need tweaking very slightly. You can be the mad dude looking to duff up the Blacksands. However, the party are currently in a caravan working as guards. There are plenty of other guards, which is where Piedro comes in. You can be another guard, or alternatively you can just come out of the desert, having tracked the Blacksands here, and attack as well. Up to you what you prefer.
Also, in terms of equipment, give yourself three magic items of your level or less.

I significantly expanded Morthak's profile to include all power, feat and feature details. Please let me know if you need anything additional.
I chose scorpion carapace armor and shield of protection as two of his magic items. Anyone have suggestions for the 3rd? I'm leaning towards a magic warhammer of some kind.
As for campaign insertion, I like the "wander in from the desert" angle. =) How do you want him to enter the ongoing fight?

Wow, Morthak. Looking at your posts, I didn't realize it had been 3 years since I ended that game.
I've gotten a much better handle on the ebb and flow of PbP since then, but I only run AP's after I had to cancel my two games then.

Morthak the Mad |

Heh, it doesn't feel like it was all that long ago, which just makes it all the more scary! =P
I completely understand. Running a PbP game is a lot tougher than you'd think at first. I see so many games wither on the vine because the DM gets behind or loses motivation -- my own included. Having the APs available makes a huge difference to me. As much as I'd love to run a homebrew, I just don't have the free time.

Hi Piedro, the discussion thread is for anything not directly involved in the action. Rolls and soon should all be in the gameplay thread.
Re getting both of you in the action, I'll let you know - it is very imminent, basically when this little lot are dealt with.

I decided to go with an exsiccating warhammer, from the DSCS book. Profile updated.
2 questions:
1) Does the magic weapon's enhancement bonus get added to power rolls that use the weapon (so, not just basic melee attack)?
2) Were we supposed to choose a theme? If so, it will add a class skill and skill bonus. Book says "ask your DM"... =)

1) Yes, if a power has the Weapon key word and you are using a magic weapon, the bonus is added to attacks and damage with that power.
2) Theme or background? The answer to both is yes. Do you have the 4e Dark Sun book?
On background, I would consider taking one that gives you Nature - you've been wandering in the desert for a long time and you have a very good Endurance score, but even so knowing where to look for food and water is probably a good idea.
On theme, my memory is a bit faded but I think in the DS book there's something like Wilder which might be suitable as Morthak is a bit, well, wild. But others might be able to advise better as 'm at work and don't have my books.
By the way, we are also playing inherent bonuses.

Yes... I chose the dwarf "Desert Miner" background, granting Nature as a class skill, and a +2 bonus to Dungeoneering. Changed trained skills (added Nature, removed Intimidate). Also took the Wilder theme, adding the Psychic Surge power. Profile updated...

I'm unfamiliar -- I tried a search, and I think I get the idea, but have no reference. Sounds like its from DMG2, which I don't own. Can you summarize?
Thanks!

You probably can't find it because they aren't really called inherent bonuses. If you have the 4e DS book, it describes them towards the back of that. Basically, as DS is a resource and equipment-light setting, the bonuses compensate so you don't fall behind the enemies (which assume a certain level of items in order to be competitive). They basically provide inherent enhancement bonuses (hence they normally don't stack with actual magic items) to defences and attacks.

I apologize for my continued minimal presence, but the S**t storm of school work has been insane and I'm just working to keep up. Classes end soon, so please bear with me, and I will have the whole summer for posting.
