A couple of errors with your post Lightbringer. As a paladin you are immune to fear, therefore you didn’t have to make the will save. Furthermore, you grant a +4 bonus to allies’ fear saves if they are within 10 ft. That means Jalana and Trinkis gain a +4 to their will save. Unfortunately, Barkhad is outside the aura.
Secondly, about the action points. Yes, you roll 2d6 at 8th level but you only take the highest roll and disregard the other dice. The max number you can roll is 6 or 8 if you have the Action Boost feat.

Reflex save 14+15=29, so no damage. Will save 13+6(action point)+6=25, so I'm not shaken either. Which brings us to...
As the vampire and her draconic mount descends towards him, Janosz decides to change targets. Digging around in his quiver, he drags out a handful of special arrows he had bought for an occasion like this one...
No move, using Rapid Shot on the rider. Attack 1: 13+13+1(PBS)=AC 27, damage 6+3+1(PBS)=10. Attack 2: 11+13+1=AC 25, damage 4+3+1=8. Attack 3: 16+8+1=AC 25, damage 5+3+1=9. And, as I'm using my nice new siler arrows, all attacks count as magic and silver and thus do full damage to vampires.

Marius finally comes fully awake by the horrible roar coming above his quarters. “My ship!” he cries as he dumps Valentis from the bed they were sharing in his rush to get outside. Draw rapier as part of move action to get to the door. Second move action to open door at U15. Marius will fight with Combat Expertise giving him a -5 penalty to attacks and a +5 dodge bonus to AC since he’s probably fighting in his skivvies.

Gil |

Slow to awaken, Gil finally registers the screams of the injured, jumps out of bed, and snatches up her weapons from the bedside (bow/arrows and rapier). I think that's all she can reasonably do in a single round, but if she still has a move action, she will be hustling to the deck, as well. I have no idea where that would put her on the ship.

Rodergo Xativa |

He grabs his morning star and shield; makes it to right behind the two lovebirds....he ain't out there yet if a damn barbarian can't get that far.
He looks down at his black silk manthong; wishes for the comfort of his full plate; laments that there's just not enough time.

Lightbringer |

Thanks for the reminder on Fear saves GG, and I guess that action point thing was wishful thinking on my half – serves me right for just looking briefly at the table in the book and not reading the associated text. Damn, 2d6 would be nice!
Still, that doesn’t change the NPC’s will saves. Since LB doesn’t need to make a Will save, the 14 goes to his reflex save: 14+5+4 (AP) = 23.
At 30feet up, did the dracolich fly through the elemental containment ring, or smash into the rear support strut? Hmmm, its probably above it.

Lightbringer |

Lightbringer weathers the brunt of the dragon’s breath attack more by dint of divine intervention than any feat of dexterity, his bulk also serving to shelter Trinkis from the worst of the blast.
The paladin is not filled with fear when the dragon appears – but he is certainly concerned. “Hold steady,” he says to those nearby, as he tries to determine what manner of undead this must be. Know, religion: 12+8 = 20
He looks to Barkhad, and is somewhat dismayed to see that the doughy dwarf seems to be struck by fear.
“We need a way to get up there, we must bring our blades to bear on the creature – it will not stand long then!” he booms, looking to the knight and pointing upwards at the dragon, trying to determine his best course of action.
In game terms, LB is delaying for now – he’ll act before the red-shirts, if not before.

Lightbringer |

Re the earlier breath weapon attack; Trinkis has evasion, so takes no damage. Jalana and LB take half damage. I think this puts Jalana on 22 hit points. LB is on 56 hit points.

Lightbringer |

While he racks his brain-analogue for some way to reach the dragon, Lightbringer reaches into his pack and retrieves an oil of repair serious wounds, which he pours over the worst of the rents in his plating restoring 25 hit points.

“Aye … just gi’ me a wee momen’ t’ collect meself laddie,” mutters Barkhad, shaken by the dragon despite himself, and trying hard to pull it together. Finally, he curses loudly, squints up at the flapping skeletal beast and chucks his axe at it … his shaking hand causing him to miss badly. Attack roll: 6
Cursing again, he jogs over towards Lightbringer move action to S16 and holds his potion up towards the warforged, jiggling its contents. “I only ‘ave one ‘o these,” he says. “You or me?”
Runzyl.

Assume you grab your stuff this round. If you are moving on to the deck, assume a single move gets either just inside or just outside one of the doors (your choice). Same for everyone else who is inside.

I had it in my head that Gil's stateroom was in the bow, so she will stop just inside the door in the foredeck. Grabbing up stuff would have included backpack and, most importantly, wands, if possible. I don't have the map at the moment, so I'm not sure of her coordinates. I picture her being able to see the deck from her position, so the dragon presence would affect her. Rolling locally...
Roll d20+7 vs. dragonfear: 25

Runzyl Steelsong |

Action point?
Oh right, we just leveled! Sure, why not! Rolled a 3 and a 4, so I'll take the 4 and that makes the DC! Whee!!! Now, about that action that I'm taking this turn...
Runzyl continues his barrage of arrows against his previous target. No movement, 2 attacks vs. Y2 Erinyes: 18, 11. I know the 11 is a miss, the 18... might hit. If so, a lousy 4 damage (though still Good aligned).
After the second arrow flies, he calls out to the winged woman, his voice likely lost in the wind. "If you have any honor at all, creature, you will face me on the deck!"
Yeah, Runzyl doesn't know anything about what the hell these things are.

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed wrote:By the way, unless you have Evasion you still take half damage from the dragon's breath on a successful save.Updated. BTW, did I hit the vampire?
Janosz fires twice at the vampire priestess (in the sexy black gear like Kate Beckinsale out of Underworld - that's Orlaith, by the way, not Janosz) and both arrows arc in inexorably, only to be batted aside by her magical defenses.
Both of Runzyl's arrows also fall short, and the undead angel simply ignores his shout demanding honourable combat.

Ezreal Farlowe |

Stumbling out of the doorway in his night shirt Ezreal comes up abruptly stunned at the sight of the dead dragon hovering above the deck. Might as well say hello... Pinching a ball of guano he immediately fires off and detonates an enormous explosion engulfing Orlaith and her mount.
Belatedly he notes the presence of the archers. "Priest! Are the archers mindless automatons or something more dangerous?" Don't have Kn Religion which I assume would be the appropriate roll.
Ez grabbed his gear and cast False Life last turn so I'll move to just outside the door and cast this turn...
MA: II16
Will Save: 20+6 = 26 (outside of bard radius)
Fireball 26 damage, Reflex DC 18 for 1/2
S/T - 15/16, 50 ft elevation from the deck

![]() |

Ferez rolls out of her bunk grabbing a bandolier holding her daggers and two potions as she goes. She races onto the deck and stops in a crouch assessing the situation.
Will Save 14+2 = 16 Shaken 4 rounds
Move to HH15 as she can get 10' farther with 40' move.
More confident in his invisibility, Trinkis stands and takes the wheel, quickly pulling the ship up and driving the elemental ring at the dragon.
Prof: Sailor 7+11 = 18 At least it shouldn't be too high of a DC to just raise the ships altitude a little :(
12d6 = 32 These dice do not love me today.

Lightbringer |

“They appear to reason,” Lightbringer calls back. Not sure what type of undead they are, but they are choosing their targets with care.

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |

Trinkis tries to raise the ship to batter the dragon but it lazily rolls aside to avoid the attack.
This whole thing with ramming could be tricky. I'll try and specify a few rules. Lots to do - read PFRPG, design dungeon for 4e game, rules on how to ram dragons with airships, it never ends....
"All hands on decks!" yells Marrius. "Prepare to repell boarders!" The crewmen dash below to rouse their comrades.
The red shirts basically can't do anything much at the moment, so they will go below decks for a few rounds.

![]() |

Whether or not we manage to ram anyone, moving the ship about a lot may be a good thing (though hell to map); I would assume that the dragon and the angels need to make a move action every turn to keep up with the ship, meaning they only get one standard action to attack (hence can’t make full attacks). Sudden changes in direction or elevation, whilst keeping forward momentum may mean that some or all of our flying opponents need to make a double move to keep up or put themselves in a good position to attack – meaning they can’t attack at all…

![]() |

Also- if any of us fly we will never keep up with the ship. Armored types will be moving at 40' or 80' for a double move. Run is not possible. The ship moves at 100' Unarmored or lightly armored types get 60' or 120', but if you spend a round or two fighting the ship will have left you impossibly behind.

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |

As the ship pulls away the dragon executes an abrupt about-turn, breaking swiftly with outspread wings and swinging about on the spot, and rapidly gains as it pursues the ship with powerful beats. It swiftly regains its position above the rear deck.
"There, by the helm, the invisible one - kill it!" snaps Orlaith. The blunt head dips on the end of its lond neck, jaws agape, as it tries to find Trinkis. Somehow, Trinkis avoids its maw and continues to fly the ship. (For reference, its altitude is now 15'.)
Scanning the decks, Orlaith sees Runzyl, smiles and beckons. Her pointed fangs show in her open mouth, her lips ruddy and wet. "Runzyl, my dear, I have come for you. Come with me now and leave these people to their fate."
Runzyl:

Erk, good point. There goes my plan …
Still, we know there is something funky going on, given that the erinyes should not be able to keep up with a ship traveling that fast (unless they are making a double move every round, in which case they couldn’t be flying)…Also – I may be showing my completely weak grasp of basic physics here, but if we launch ourselves from a platform that is traveling forward at a certain speed – say an airship traveling at 100 feet a round – would we maintain forward momentum at that speed? So as long as we don’t travel backwards relative to the ship (ie, decelerate), we would stay in the same relative position to the ship without expending any effort, despite any vertical or lateral movement.
Or maybe I’m just changing the laws of physics to suit my purpose…

Lightbringer |

Uh oh, I think we just broke basic combat rule number 1, throw up a protection from evil on Runzyl asap...

![]() |

In respect of the erinyes, I'm cheating. In respect of the dragon, I'm not. Your assault on the laws of physics might work in a vacuum, but wind resistance would quickly slow you down again in an atmosphere.
Ah well, at least I was onto something for a moment. Maybe LB will try that trick next time he's in a vacuum, given he doesn't need to breath and all...
And yeah, dragons are frikken fast, he could probably do a couple of barrel rolls around the ship each round and still keep up.
