Tenro read my mind regarding our characters. Especially with 4 PC's it would be nice if our skills and abilities covered as many bases as possible. Although Roland can cover face skills and combat, he was mostly made to deal with the PvP threat after our initial a$$kicking at the hands of the Thieves.
If the GM would allow it, I'd strongly consider dropping Roland for another PC. One idea is to bring back Tomlin, maybe re-skinned, but the same personality/role. If Tenro went with a healing/channel capable PC, Tomlin would round out our party with a rogue-type.
@GM: Would this idea work for you?
@Ian: You good with your PC?
Ian Marros |
@Roland: For sure. I feel like being a slightly different build + half elf now, as a result of being killed in pvp, is actually good IC backstory and richness. A greatsword is pretty boring, so maybe I'll consider a change of weapon type with a future gear upgrade.
@GM: I remember awhile back you said something along the lines of: "Because this campaign does need to end at some point", what's your thoughts/plans on that atm?
Ian Marros |
Bring back Tomlin, I liked the little stick in the mud. :]
And you can always modify him based on how his mission away from Coran has changed him (in personality and/or stats).
Ian Marros |
You'd be 1 int mod lower than tiefling but you'd get the +1AC and +1Atk from halfling. I'm not sure what your intriguing idea is but halfling may not be an awful racial choice. *shrug*
Roland La Vallette |
I've submitted my idea to the GM for audit. It's an assassin prestige class build by way of unchained rogue and alchemist. Int would actually be two mods lower given the extra stat boost that aasimars/tieflings get. Losing darkvision and 30' move would hurt too.
We'll see after the GM has a chance to look over the build. I like Tomlin as a personality but retooling to what I had in mind could be tough.
Roland La Vallette |
@ Tenro: Good question. Healing (and Channeled healing, if build allows) wouldn't be remiss. Serelina's build allows some nuking but has been more geared towards buffs. Hard to make a nuker/healer build though. I'd avoid crafting. This campaign goes by very slowly in terms of game days. Summoning allies could be a good skill to shoot for. Finally, I'd recommend a PC that wouldn't mind melee'ing. That's less important if you can summon creatures though.
Tenro |
So you aren't doing summon stuff anymore? I can probably fit two themes together without being too spread out.
Healing is for certain.
I could fit in summons.
I'll leave off of buffs and crafting.
With all that i could scrape together some fire support and wrap it up with a bow. Just gonna have to put a good flavor on the character amd call it a day.
Any other suggestions/requests?
Tenro |
I'll have fun playing most any mage. I played Rilumin because he was effective, i didn't actually have to stat the PC out, and he was what we needed to keep the thieves at bay. now that isn't a problem, I can do what i was originally doing as Tavrus... healin' and creepin' people out.
and i'm in a rather... aberrant mood. muahahaha
Ian Marros |
I msged the GM about Ian using some offtime to search the sewers for his old body and Tavrus' body (to burn them). Just RP tying up loose ends for Ian's sanity.
Could be opportunity for weird s*@# having happened to Tavrus' corpse to turn him into this new character? Just a thought :D
Roland La Vallette |
@GM: Would Roland have any idea what Diguri is referring to in the other thread? She seems to be insinuating that her team killed something other than "people" broadly defined. Is Roland aware of "something terrible" the Tower was keeping as a pet or some such? Am I totally misunderstanding what she is asserting?
Roland La Vallette |
It could be, but I'm not so sure. Kel was small potatoes, but the killing the high priest of Abadar, that's kind of a big deal. Radgar could have a side persona as a lyre playing bard-type, but that seems like a different guy. Plus, Roland already talked about Radgar openly with Diguri in this conversation, doesn't make sense for her to talk about him roaming the city as if it is some big secret.
The Mauria thing bugs me too. Why the heck is some Rakshasa variant around? Why did it kill Rosuc of all people? And who is/was the halfling and guards that supposedly killed it. Something really doesn't add up about that information, but we never followed up on it.
Wish I had more time to really dig thru the thread like I did a couple years a go.

My new PC is done, but will need to be updated for 8th level. Very strong face skills, diplomacy and stealth. Will do lots of the recon/deception kinds of missions Tomlin and Roland did. Can handle all the typical rogue type stuff, but will not be the Tank presence Roland was in fused eidolon form.
My understanding is that Serelina and Ian are remaining and unchanged. Roland will be gone, replaced by my new PC.
Don't feel like you have to do summons. My new PC would benefit greatly from flanks summons could provide, but Ian is a more than capable tank. The main thing to consider is that, aside from your PC and whatever you summon, Ian is the only PC drawing melee attacks. If you don't summon anything to "draw Aggro", your PC may become the de facto 2nd option for enemies to melee.
One other consideration is alignment. My new PC is....not a nice person. Very Lawful Evil. This may bring a big personality dynamics change from Chaotic Good Roland. Ian is True Neutral, but Serelina is also Lawful Evil. Obviously you can do whatever kind of PC you want but a "darker" persona might be the best fit.
Tenro |
Hmm I will look at the flip side of the coin then and weigh options.
EDIT: looking at darkness instead of light for a theme, doesn't give me much in the way of damage and is kinda costly. I'll probably stick with light but i dont mind trending towards evil.
A big question is, are you planning on stealth melee, ranged, or both? If i go with light, it'll be hard to stealth next to enemies i am burning.
Tenro |
Well that's good to hear. I'll be able to channel positive and negative, my choice at time of channel. I can do some extra positive and negative things with channel. And i'll be able to cast light that burns enemies, but it wont be world-ending damage (but no acid splash, either). A little less damage than one of Rilumin's arrows, but only once per turn and to more than one person at a time.
As for summons, i will do a cost-benefit analysis.
Edmond, The Light |
New alias made, at least.
Stats aren't 100% yet, but i've made all his feat/class ability choices. Haven't done equipment yet so i don't quite know what he looks like but he'd probably have a glamer on his clothes anyway.
So there's a halfling sitting at the table, wearing pure white robes.

OK, here's my (Roland/Tomlin)'s new PC
The build is primarily classic rogue, heavy on skills (including detection/disarm of magical traps) and fighting from a flanking position. Without the possibility to sneak attack she's fairly limited in combat.
Most of time she will be able to sneak attack though because of her stealth. She has a lesser version of Hide in Plain Sight that will allow her to Stealth even in bright light or when fully visible. And she's really, really good at Stealth. Combined with Fast Stealth (full move rate in Stealth), another rogue ability that allows her to Take 10 on most Stealth checks and her 40' move rate (thanks to boots of striding), she'll be in Stealth a lot.
Soliel can do disguises well too, though she is not as enthusiastically disposed to it as Roland was. But we maintain the ability that Tomlin, Leo, Tavrus and Roland had to gather intel by disguise/bluff if desired.
She's an alchemist as well (but no bombs), mostly using her creations to help her skills. She has quite a few poisons though, and can use those liberally.
Finally, she's an assassin. I hope to use Death Attack often. 3 rounds to observe an enemy and then forcing a DC21 Fort save or die can hopefully be effective. Ideally the first sign an enemy knows of us is this attack.
Otherwise, everything else is up on the profile.
@Tenro: Is Edmond done? Don't see the stats yet.
Tenro |
Edmond isn't done with a prettied-up sheet, i basically went through and did the hard choices (even-level class ability choices, "spell" selection). I am gonna focus hard on that tonight to get something more concrete up.
really i just need to pick equipment, calculate derived stats and skills, and actually copy/paste it into the profile.

ok got all but the equipment done.
Serelina Bellafini |
While in-character Serelina would have definite plans and motivations about our next steps - as a player I do not. I'm honestly having trouble keeping track of all the plot lines. I think it might be worth it to strategize about next steps here, then work conclusions into roleplay in the main thread. Serelina is smarter than I and likely remembers/has figured out a lot more than I'm going to be capable of emulating.
Sister Soliel Levant |
@Ian: Thanks, I like digging into the RP, esp in PbP. Don't want to create painful text walls for folks though, hopefully it helps flesh out the game.
@Tenro/Edmond: I see your "companion" listed on the stat sheet. Is he/she/it visible and if so, what does it look like?
@Serelina (but really everyone): Good idea to hash out what we need to get done as a group. Off the top of my head the notable loose ends are: 1) Dealing with the Thieves' Guild, 2) Dealing with the Rebellion (Hezek/Roscomia/LT Banmor/Bannali), 3) Finding "Rakinkal" or whomever killed the High Priest of Abadar, 4) Radgar (and, related, doing something with Maklo), 5) Investigating the Mauri-thing whose body showed up, 6) Investigating Rosuc's death (if we care), 7)Figure out what Nasul's Ring does (and how Nasul/the catacombs was connected), 8)What to do about Sona (if we care) and 9) further investigate all the demons we've been dealing with and where they come from.
Some of those above have sub-plots (like how did Hezek escape the Abyss, and others like him too), but I think those are main points. The challenge is that exactly none of them have a clear "next step". When I've read back through the thread, there are many hints and clues but far fewer obvious ways forward. I'd love to effectively re-do the "FAQ" that I wrote up three years ago (back when the IC thread was only 25 pages....*sigh*) but time IRL makes that hard. Still, I might try working on it and will mention clues I find as I go.
Edmond, The Light |
Woops, forgot about my conpanion. Since he is very obvious, i will say he isn't in the room. Perhaps waiting outside the door or something. He is a medium-sized serpent-man with two arms, he wears armor and carries a morningstar that i need to add to his sheet. I'll fully describe him when he catches up to Edmond, about when they leave the room.
Serelina Bellafini |
Serelina also has the look into the spell that Radgar's wife was working on as part of her list of "to-do's" She tried this once before and determined it would take about a week to decipher. The breakneck pace we've been running at since then has not allowed follow-up but she will look into both the ring and the spell in the meantime.
