Another Step Beyond (Inactive)

Game Master MaUC

A new take to the old "One Step Beyond" campaign... New GM! New players! New rules! Mostly...

Current Initiative Order:

N/A

Turns out that a bunch of Paragon Powers fit really well with Mage spells...

Time to recycle!

BTW, the reason there's no Initiative is because the Large specter is apparently hesitant to fight back.

I'll get a gameplay post up later (for both games). Tangentially though, would you mind making it clearer when a miss chance is involved? OOC or otherwise. Saying I pass through it made it sound like it was incorporeal against that attack or something.

Well... The miss chance is precisely because the specter is only partially solid... But I'll try to make it clearer in the future.

Sorry for the delay. I'm not having a lot of time in front of either my PC or my notebook these days, and I don't have my notes in my phone. I'll try to post as soon as I'm back at the hotel.

Phew... That was a long one to write...

IIRC you can activate Power Attack on an AoO and it doesn't carry to the next round?

I have no idea... So I'll say "Yes".

Brother Cyrus wrote:
+5 more damage if it's undead/dragon/outsider

Isn't that only on the first successful attack of your smite?

Brother Cyrus wrote:

Cyrus bursts into motion, sliding to his knees and places a hand on Tai Leng's chest. Healing energy jolts into him, but before Cyrus checks the work he's done, he's already rushing over to Jaazkara.

He grips the chalice medallion he wears around his neck for focus and it glows bright with light. Finally he places his hand over Jaazkara and pumps the last vestiges of his healing power into the lizardfolk.

[dice=LoH for Tai Leng]2d6+2
[dice=LoH for Jaazkara]2d6+2

Didn't you say you only had 1 loH left?

Brother Cyrus wrote:
I do, the whole fluff about the medallion was using my Divine Bond for just one more Lay on Hands. It's actually glowing like a torch for 5 minutes now.

Wait... Doesn't your Divine Bond give you a bonus to AC or to spells' CL or something like that?

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Sorry for the scarce posting, guys. I'm a bit sick these days, and my headache is really slowing me down...

:(

My headache finally relented... I should go back to posting tomorrow. :)

Apparently, there's a Guide to the Shifter...

Surprisingly, it's not just "DON'T!" written in big, bold letters.

Sorry for the slow updates, guys. I usually post here when I'm home, but these days I'm not spending a lot of time home... Well... At least not a lot of time where I'm not sleeping or too tired to turn on the PC...

><'

I promise to speed up the GM posting. :)

It's all right, I've been a bit swamped too. I think it's even my turn to post, come to think of it.

Reminder that you can always check the Campaign Inventory to remember what you're carrying around... And the Notable NPCs & Locations Guide to remember who is who and what is what.

:)

Oops... Forgot we revived this! New post tomorrow!

Great to see Jaazkara is back, BTW! :)

Sorry posts are coming so slowly, guys... I'm traveling on vacation so most of my time on the internet is from my phone.

I'm going to Curitiba tonight. I'll probably have more free time there. :)

BTW, in case need to refresh your memory:

The reason you're in this casino is because Alvarez hired you to find a man who stole a precious bronze-bladed curved dagger from him. The man's real identity and appearance are unknown, except that he's in his late 30's to early 40's, taller than average and lost a hand years ago.

Your main mission is to find him and stop him from meeting the owners of the casino (to whom he intends to offer the dagger). Stealing the dagger back or stopping their meeting from happening should work.

Other than that, Alvarez insists that you avoid doing anything that would get the owner of the casino angry at him... Apparently, some very important like this place.

So, paizo delivered a Shifter class...somewhat unexpected. I guess Rynjin have been praising it as the best class ever, right?, right??

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

...You really haven't seen the s*#~storm that is that class, huh? The class is so badly designed, it's hilarious!

No way, I can't believe you. There is no chance that paizo would make the shifter worst at shapechanging than the druid or something.

It only gets a limited number of forms that once chosen cannot be changed

They don't get Wild Shape until 4th, like Druids

They only get animal forms

It only ever functions as Beast Shape II

They only have a single animal form at 4th

Impossible, Next you will tell me that they made heavy use of recycled class features with little innovation...it was tongue in cheek from the beginning.

Sorry I couldn't post these days... I was rly tired when I got home yesterday. I'll make a new GM post tonight... And hopefully think of a way to introduce Shea into the story.

Another Step Beyond: Campaign Rules & Guidelines - Notable NPCs & Locations

I created a new map in Roll20 just to show the overall casino's schematics... Most NPCs are still missing, but you can get a general idea of the area.

Another Step Beyond: Campaign Rules & Guidelines - Notable NPCs & Locations

I updated the current map with some NPCs... Some of the tokens are recycled from other games, so don't be surprised if you see a character portrait and think "Wait... Didn't we kill this guy in a different campaign?". XD

Too many options. Option paralysis!!!

Well... There are 3 of you. And everything is taking place in the same room, so you don't even have to split the party.

Sorry for not posting yesterday. I was pretty tired when I got home... I'll make a new GM post tonight when I get home.

Unable to check Discord because I'm at work, Does removing the somatic component mean I don't need to roll a concentration check to cast while entangled?

No, but it does mean you get a +4 to that check (this is something specific to the feat you're using, not an universal rule).

Male Pig CR 1/3 Pig |

Ok thank, I literally just read that too. Sorry to bother. will post soon.

Another Step Beyond: Campaign Rules & Guidelines - Notable NPCs & Locations

If not specified, it's half your caster level. You can reduce your effective caster level to make concentration easier... But that also reduces the effects and DC of the spell.

Male Pig CR 1/3 Pig |

Also I was searching for an answer to this but I could not find anything, I even Ctrl-F'ed concentration.

How do I determine the spell level for the purpose of determining my concentration save DC when using magecrat? I can't find anything that tells me that, but perhaps I just missed it.

10-4 I'll roll with that

Did I take out the one I was fighting with my second attack?

I'll be nice this time and assume you made that attack.. But as always... If you forget to make a roll, use an ability or apply a bonus on your turn... Too bad! Too late! It's gone! Try again in 6 seconds!

For rolls in particular, if they're not on your first post for the turn, I'll just ignore them.

Retconning actions is annoying and harms the flow of the game... And PbP aren't exactly super dynamic and fast-paced to start with.

So unless the action (or lack of) really doesn't make any sense (e.g.: you attack an enemy that is already dead because I forgot to update its token or something) or it's a very critical situation (e.g.: that +1 bonus you forgot would have saved your character's life), if you forget your abilities, you squander them for that turn.

I apply this rule to myself as both a player and GM. I'll never say "Ah, I forgot to apply the aura effect to you all last turn! Roll Will!" or something like that, except in the case one of the mentioned exceptions apply... And even then it's likely that I won't do it, since I (hopefully) don't care as much about the NPCs as you do about your characters.

- - -

And that gear-man still has exactly 1 hp left. It's the hit point of hope!

Male Goblin Vivisectionist Trap Breaker 10

I never asked to retcon anything. It was still our turn. There was an extra attack I could have made the previous round too, but I was not rolling for that.

I know your stance on Retcon and agree Lemmy.

Another Step Beyond: Campaign Rules & Guidelines - Notable NPCs & Locations

I don't like splitting rolls from the same turn in multiple posts... Also, remember that when you guys are next to each other in initiative, you can act in any order because I consider it to be a "mini block initiative" kind of situation... But you still technically have your own separate turns.

See how your post ends, the GM posts a quick description of what happened and then someone else posts their actions? That's your turn having ended.

As usual, exceptions still apply.
