Spernik hesitates, then offers, ”Well, this door behind me requires a key that has been separated into four parts. I have two here, but there are two more that need to be recovered. I haven’t been in either of the rooms, but I think they are trapped because I lost a few kobolds that went in to retrieve them. There are two parts left, in that room and that room,” he points to the NE and SW doors in the chamber.

intimidation: -1 + 1d20 ⇒ -1 + (8) = 7 Okay for clarification I'm not trying to be lawful, but the guy does care about money, if I'm not mistaken there is a reward for turning him in, or at least I thought you said it was on a wanted poster. He isn't doing this for moral reason, but for money. Besides he will not leave until he knows what is in that other room, he will put his very life at risk if it means getting every last ounce of gold, fight or no fight that is what he wants. He does want to kill or beat everything up, but he does want his gold.
We won't let harm come to you, but if you come with us and turn them in, them might let of off scot free. If there is anything else you stole you have to tell us. i Will go out of my way to help the authorities on this one in hopes they will pay me well, and I care about my paycheck more than my life and moral values. Now if anything you stole is valuable, it would be more profitable for me to keep it for myself than to turn it in, And we can even split the profits on it, but if it ain't worth gold, it needs to be returned. If you let me come into the other room, it would be awesome, as I refuse to go adventuring and return with little gold.
EditI did not see your post there on the next page, so assume that he spoke this right after I made my last post instead of just now. which is what he would have done

Uriah Lewis |

Uriah smiles at Spernik See! Isn't sharing fun, don't you feel better! I certainly do!
Uriah turns to the assembled party, including the ranting Kane
See, don't you guys feel better already! Okay, alright we're getting somewhere.
Uriah turns back to Spernik and whispers Just keep ignoring him. Trust me, its for the best
Okay, so you are after something behind that door, but to get to it you need to open that door and that door. Right? Good. Okay, got that cleared up. Now, who are your scaled friends and why are they here? Uriah asks innocently enough

![]() |

Gotcha, the wanted poster did indeed say that there was a reward, but it was being offered by the Sage. I thought he made it clear (and I am sorry if I did not) that he cares little about bringing the man in, but cares only about the tomes and any relics that may be recovered whilst fulfilling that mission.
That being said, thank you for the clarification, because this format makes it difficult to read intention (and body language).

![]() |

okay this is spoken now
If you send in your winged kobold, traps will not hurt them, traps only appear on the ground, ie pressure plates, trip wires, etc, and they are in the air, and not such thing as traps being placed in mid air.

![]() |

Spernik screws up his face, "I had thought of that, and lost all but three of my fliers as you can see. One said that acid sprayed out and melted the flesh from his clutchmate's bones and another said that the room filled with this acrid gas, stealing two of his clutchmates' breath!"
He looks at the remaining creatures, "Now they refuse to enter the remaining ones, even moreso now that you are here."

Uriah Lewis |

Uriah says Okay great. Traps that melt flesh, sounds fun. Now, why are the Kobolds here, and what is it that you are getting their flesh melted for?

![]() |

He hesitates before continuing, "My... benefactors want something beyond this door, and well, I fear what they would do to me if I fail at this task. The kobolds were sent by those benefactors to aid in my success."
"Your elven friend mentioned gold. If you help me recover these keys and let me go, I'll offer you a gem worth a king's ransom when we get back to town. You can take the books, I have no further need for them." He almost looks pleading, hopeful that you'll take his offer.

![]() |

Wrathmire, which door are you going for? NE or SW? SW is closer to you guys, NE you would shoulder past some kobolds.
Sen, I am going to wait for a little while in case someone wants to hazard the guess, since you guys found some clues back in town.

![]() |

Do you know what is beyond that door? And are we going to expect to see some dragon guarding whatever treasure is there? I mean if something is over there, we will want to work together and travel together.

Godfrey Heinrich Donner |

I can disarm traps, it's one of the benefits of the urchin background
Godfrey will pull out his thieves tools, and hold them up for Adrian to see propping them up in his palm with his middle finger.
checking for traps: 1d20 + 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + (4) + 1 = 11

Ander Meliamne |

Cripes, I take a day for my wife's birthday, and I come back to 27 new posts of "Who are the real villains here?" dialogue? Sheesh.
After a few moments of dumbfoundedly listening to the lunatics around him, Ander perks up as Godfrey steps boldly in the direction of known traps. He flashes an eager smile to Uriah, Senn, and Spernik while crossing his fingers on both hands.

![]() |

Hahahahahah! I didn't even catch that one! >_<
Godfrey and Wrathmire approach the (SW) door. Upon finding that the door itself is not trapped, they open it.
A bone-chilling, knee-deep white mist clings to every nook of this 20-by-20-foot chamber. The walls are of the same grey stone as the rest of the complex, but decorated with a pattern of glossy white and blue tiles, each perhaps a hands-width across. A short set of stairs lead to a raised dais, upon which sits a rectangular altar carved from a single piece of white marble-like stone, veined with grey. The mist that fills the room seems to be flowing from something resting atop the altar.
Godfrey, Wrathmire, and Sen... how would you like to proceed?

Uriah Lewis |

Alas, Lord Godfrey the Unmannerly met his end at the mantle of a doorframe....It would make an excellent epitaph yes? Uriah grins
Well, we have the books so any more flesh melting traps are sheer bonus right boyos! Uriah flourishes his rapier in a gesture you are definitely noticing means he doesn't really plan on using it.
Onward! Toward certain death and perhaps maybe some glory!
He whispers to Spernik and the Kobolds Best you just stand back, no telling what these others might do

![]() |

I'll be outside really quick. Turok goes back to the entrance of the cave and decides to open the left set of doors to see what is inside.
I'll have a section or so cleared out while they search for traps.

![]() |

Turok, I assume that you will be lighting a torch of your own? Elsewise, you will be hindered in your search. (Complete darkness is considered dimly lit for you.)
EDIT: Anyone that goes with Turok may read the spoiler as well, but I will need to know how many stay back.

![]() |

I'm an elf, so Darkvision

Sir Adrian Fullbright |

Sir Adrian appears a bit dumbfounded when Kane simply runs out of the room.
What is it with members of this party simply acting upon their own volition without much concerted thought involved? Well, I am certainly not chasing after him.
Sir Adrian patiently awaits the results of the activities in the trapped room.

![]() |

I'm an elf, so Darkvision
** spoiler omitted **
I made the same assumption in another game until the DM pointed this out to me:
Darkvision. Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
So, since it is pitch black in here, it would count as dim conditions for you and if you get attacked you would have disadvantage.

![]() |

How much time are you spending investigating? Are you just trying to find out if there are threats or are you actually taking time?

Uriah Lewis |

Uriah quips A death wish perhaps? Maybe never being rocked enough as a small elfling? I should compose a song...a Ballad to match the Drinking Ditty about Sir Ander the Polite. The Ballad of Turok the Hasty, an epic poem that finishes all too quickly.

Godfrey Heinrich Donner |

Alas, Lord Godfrey the Unmannerly met his end at the mantle of a doorframe....It would make an excellent epitaph yes? Uriah grins
Don't insult me like that, unlike other lords present and otherwise, I work for a living
Godfrey will take his scarf over his mouth and proceed to the altar looking for traps, tapping his holy symbol.
1d20 + 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + (4) + 1 = 9
if traps are present I will disarm them, once again tapping the holy symbol.
if it looks trapped i will disarm
1d20 + 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + (1) + 4 = 8
If it doesnt look like any are present, so I will grab the piece we need
1d20 ⇒ 18 +3 for Con, +2 for Dex saves.

![]() |

Godfrey wades into the mist, and feels the chilling cold penetrate his leggings and boots, chilling him to the bone. He tries to penetrate the misty fog to find this trap. The sorcerer takes the first step up the stair to the altar, when suddenly a blade scythes up in an arc!
Godfrey launches himself forward, but feels the blade bite across his forearm! You made your save, so damage is halved to 4 hp. The foul-mouthed storm priest grimaces as he looks at the wound, then sets to work trying to disable it, but seems to have trouble with it.
With an expletive that would make a sailor blush, Godfrey spits at the trap and snatches the key from the altar, that at this distance he can make out easily. Immediately the mist stops and begins to dissipate from the floor. At this point, seeing the pressure plate fairly easily, returning to the door becomes merely academic. Two halves of a winged kobold are revealed as the mists fade away...

![]() |

The kobolds back away as Wrathmire walks up to the NE door, checking it quickly to find that it is not trapped. Opening it, the crossbowman sees it open into a 20-by-20 foot room that has a floor made from a single piece of beaten copper. Shiny, blue and yellow tiles line the walls and a diamond-shaped altar of polished blue stone rests atop a dais. Small bolts of electricity arc between something resting atop the altar and a number of copper studs in the wall...

![]() |

It will take a Wisdom (Perception) or Intelligence (Investigation) check to find the trigger, and if you find one, a Dexterity check with your Thieves' tools to disable.

![]() |

Sen pulls the book to her and begins flipping through the pages. It is a tome of history of the Northern region of the Sword Coast.
Wrathmire and Godfrey work together to easily find the trigger to the trap on the pedestal itself. After spending a minute to keep from grounding the key, the two manage to return triumphant. Wrathmire's hair stands up a little with the static charge emanating from the key part.
As you both emerge from the room, Spernik looks almost sad, "I'm sorry." With a nod, the kobolds attack!
Godfrey Heinrich Donner 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Wrathmire 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Sir Adrian Fullbright 1d20 ⇒ 3
Ander Meliamne 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Uriah Lewis 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Sen 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Kobolds & Spernik1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Sen looks up from the tome and sees Godfrey and Wrathmire emerge from the room. There something about the look on Spernik's face that tips her off. Sen, you may act first, then enemies go, then everyone. You may post your intended actions. Turok, you just finished checking the last room before you hear the sounds of battle erupt back through the hall!

![]() |

Turok would be afraid to go back to the battle, or at least he may step in late, so he will try to do something else instead.
He keeps a torch lit. which is what he would have done, now that you explained it to me.
After having checked all the rooms for treasure and danger, he will check for traps and quietly open the double doors at the end.
perception: 4 + 1d20 ⇒ 4 + (9) = 13
stealth: 5 + 1d20 ⇒ 5 + (10) = 15
I might still have an action or so to do after that in round 1, since I'm still in init, it just depends upon what is beyond those doors, as to how I want to finish my round.
As I thought he says with a whisper, I didn't trust them, and they said I was racist against kobolds.

Uriah Lewis |

Villains! Thieves! Bastards of all stripes! Foul Treachery! Uriah shouts
Casting Vicious Mockery on any Kobold in melee, DC13 Wisdom save or take 1d4 ⇒ 1 psychic damage and have disadvantage on your next attack
Uriah will move as indicated on the map by an arrow before he casts his spell...if anything moves into melee with him he will use the disengage action to move as indicated by the arrow and ignore the spell this round.

Ander Meliamne |

Oh you did NOT just two-time an upstanding guild merchant who works hard to have a reputation of fairness. RAAAAWR!!!
"BACK-STABBING CUR!!!" Ander screams, bloodlust in his eyes. He rushes toward Spernik, sword drawn and teeth bared.
I can't see the map for another 10 hours or so, but I would think I'd have been within 30ft of Spernik while I thought we were buds. I'm heading for him even if I have to eat an AoO from a kobold.
Longsword: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23, Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
If AoOs bring be down to 8HP or less, I'll also use Second Wind: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Senn |
As I haven't selected an avatar of my own, I can't be sure which one is supposed to be me. If I knew, I'd move myself; as I don't, can someone move me back to where I have line of sight to at least 1 enemy without being in immediate danger of ending up in melee? Thanks.
Oh, and my name is Sen, with one "n". That alias was unfortunately already taken, hence the extra letter.
