On Discord
I logged in as well and changed my nickname on the server as others have done though I think I'm in a different timezone to most... given that I tend to wake up to find a lot of posts made overnight even when I'm on top of things.
On the Emerald Spire
I've run it to completion previously through voice chat. I'm currently running it as part of a play by post. In both cases as part of Kingmaker campaigns. In the case of the play by post I transplanted the Spire and Thornkeep to near the stolen lands, the idea was that those interested in Kingdom building could do so in discussion and those not can still enjoy exploring, dungeon delving and RP in gameplay.
It's worked out really well having it there from the start, in fact I had the party have to recover a spire token from the Emerald Spire before they were given their charter for Kingmaker. Early on they headhunted a few significant NPCs from Thornholme, I think their general is the leader of a mercenary group called the Blue Basilisks with connections all over the River Kingdoms, helped make things feel more grounded.
I've enjoyed running it so much I went in for Kingmaker 2e adventure path. Which I'm looking forward to running since I'm really enjoying running Pathfinder 2e and Kingmaker has a lot of replay value especially I expect with this revamp... I mean I severely doubt I'll run another campaign where the players build an entire museum just to show off all of the tapestries they've looted.
My Stick is Better Than Bacon... or Bulvi's got some vengeance to deliver
For those who've been around since the start they'll recall our horrible fight with the zombies, I noted Bulvi picking up Yu's club after he died. He's not deranged with vengeance or anything but there's a grim resolve there that when the Witch Queen is defeated he'll hammer it through her heart like a stake if they actually manage to pull off defeating her. A little message to the big movers and shakers that actions have consequences and sometimes even they have to pay a price. I mean yes also near apocalyptic winter but Bulvi's seen a lot of friends go down through this adventure. He's invested on a personal level too.

Aye, I'm with you there Bull...if we make to the end, we'll bury the witch queen with a stake of holly thru her heart!
| GM Lareg |
Thanks for the thoughts. I've tried to spice things up with NPC interaction, but much of that is closed off by the dungeon structure. The satyr was really the last chance for that sort of thing. Back to it. Will set up discord in the next few days.

I would prefer not to join a Discord channel. I don't mean this in an antisocial way at all, as I'm sure you'd all be marvelous people to chat with. But I don't want everyone's impression of Quasit to be amalgamated with me -- I prefer her to stand alone, unsullied by association with her player. It's a matter of maintaining the illusion that she is a real three dimensional person that we are all interacting with. I think the discussion thread offers ample chance to have off-topic and out of character chatter already.
Play-by-Post is a very different sort of game from tabletop Pathfinder roleplaying. Playing in person at a table, everyone is a player first, enjoying a communal gaming experience, whacking monsters and engaging in tactical discussions and table talk, with a little bit of in-character stuff thrown in when appropriate. These forum games are primarily creative writing exercises, at least for me, with the goal of navigating a character through a story in conjunction with other writers. And as a writer, I think it's potentially distracting for an author to insert themselves too personally into their product. I hope all that makes sense, and I hope I haven't offended anyone.

No worries, Q, no offense here...makes sense to me...
I'll mostly be using Discord similar to the Discussion tab as some of the others may see it quicker that way; there's been a GM or two I've played under that use Discord for OOC so I've used it on occasion...and I've gamed a couple of sessions on it as well (I prefer the Paizo site for PBP though)...
I suspect I'll still use the Discussion thread more but if there's anything I deem important/relevant to our game, i.e., if my posts will be delayed due to vacation/illness/etc, I'll post it in both places...
| GM Lareg |
Sounds find to me Q. I plan to add the discord primarily so I'm in the loop. Not a whole lot of extra time to respond these days.

Quasit, makes sense to me too. And obviously your writing is amazing and you're using this medium to its full extent. I wouldn't want you to do anything that takes away from that because then we'd all lose out on the great stuff that you do.
| GM Lareg |
Campaign isn't showing as in my active list for some reason. Working to figure that out.
| GM Lareg |
Odd, all seems well now. Must be odd ball web issues. Maka, any word from Tezuzu?
| Maka Na'Shota |
Whoever wrote these rules really doesn't understand how the world works.
Yeah, I know when I take magical strength damage down to 0 I can still do backflips.
Findurêl

I dunno, I can see their logic when it comes to ability scores hitting zero:
Constitution: Dead
Intelligence: Comatose
Strength, Wisdom, and Charisma: Unconscious
Dexterity: Immobile
Quasit*

I'm no expert on what the proper symptoms of dropping to 0 Strength would be, since that's not something that exists in the real world. The point in game terms is that reducing any stat to zero removes you from being able to take actions. And unless you're a psychic, being unable to move or speak is effectively the same as being unconscious in terms of game play, so it doesn't seem like a big deal.
If we analogize that Strength is a function of muscle work, then the closest analogy to zero strength might be a total paralysis of muscles, such as happens with strychnine or curare poisoning. And since that situation also paralyzes the breathing muscles, unconsciousness definitely happens pretty quickly. But unlike curare poisoning, one can be at 0 Strength for an extended period and not asphyxiate, so it's not an exact match.
If you are just focused on being conscious because you want to roleplay your mental reaction to being at 0 strength, I'd suggest you could still do so as a dream sequence which you could then share with us.

When I saw Selena's STR go to 0 I thought she had died. For some reason I had the idea that STR at 0 meant that your diaphragm muscles and heart didn't even have the ability to move so you would just die. I was glad to see that I had the rules wrong. I like the fact that you're just unconscious. That's a step up from dead.
| Bulvi |
Sorry for the delay, getting back onto posts but had to prioritise the games I am running first.
I think in an older edition Str 0 did kill people but that might have been a misunderstanding at the table I was at... there were plenty of those.
| Selena Snoe Yelizaveta |
Strength is the ability to apply force. It should either kill you (in 3.5 str 0 is helpless on ground, while dex 0 is paralyzed) or render you immobile like dex 0. Strength has nothing to do with mental ability at all, hence why I think unconscious makes no sense, especially since the fact that dex can merely immobilize, so why can't strength?
| GM Lareg |
This bit doesn't expose the party to much risk, but I'm hesitant to move forward too quickly until.we hear from Tezuzu. So there's may be some slow boating ahead.
| GM Lareg |
Not sure if it's been network issues or paizo issues, but this is the first time I've been able to login for days. Hopefully whatever the issue was is resolved. Catching up as I can.
| GM Lareg |
I haven't heard back from Tezuzu so I'm not sure what is going on. Assuming I am able to keep things working on my end in terms of forum access, there is some time to wait. Others thoughts?
Findurêl
|
It was paizo issues, GM. I couldn't log in for most of a day...I think some others were having the issue longer than that...
Tez posted on the chat server Selena set up on Discord, but that was when no one could log in...I'd like for him to be able to give his input...I'll give him a holler over on Discord...
Can you say what happened yet to Bulvi when he went thru the door with the rope tied around him?
| GM Lareg |
Want to give Quasit and Maka a chance to post, checking in on the game thread shortly and will update accordingly.
Quasit*

I was also blocked from logging in, until just now. Stupid Paizo.
Findurêl

GM: When Bulvi disappeared, what happened to the rope?
| Bulvi |
I think the post about it being lighter means it's not taut, probably falling to the floor but amn't 100% certain.
My thinking was if it's an illusion you'd see it stay taut. If he's teleported it's a clean cut potentially and if it's an instant disintegration the end of that rope might be looking funky.
Findurêl
|
I'm thinking the rope attached to you teleported and essentially cut the rope on my end...
| GM Lareg |
In the middle of an unplanned phone replacement. Posting will slow a bit.
Sakitu
|
I think that Sakitu and Tez are still in the original location and everyone else teleported. Is that right?
Findurêl
|
I think so...but I think the bricks will teleport us back...
Quasit*
|
Maybe, but I wouldn't count on that as certain. Which means that someone better scarf up all the loot in the evil witch shrine before leaving it.
Findurêl
|
Roger that...I should’ve put a heavier emphasis on think. While the GM mentioned it looks like it should function both ways, doesn’t mean that it will or that it’ll take us back to where we were. Your idea to put an object on there sounds good...
| Tezuzu Curseclaw |
I think that Sakitu and Tez are still in the original location and everyone else teleported. Is that right?
I had assumed this part of my last post served as a good buffer to move us forward...
(Unless a reason gets brought forward to stay and explore other paths Tezuzu will move forward joining the rest of the group.)
....but as per the key rule of improv always agree with your partners reality so I guess Saki and Tez are the only two left having not gone through the portal.
| GM Lareg |
Busy at work yesterday. Going to try and loose here before the meetings set in.
| GM Lareg |
Do you all want to puzzle out the bricks or have me narrate it as you’ve spent a good amount of time wandering.
Quasit*
|
If we game this out, Quasit was going to basically excavate the floor around the offending bricks to see if they could be approached from the side or the bottom so that they could be levered out one at a time and moved. Part of that process was going to involve testing those surfaces with inanimate objects.
I don't see an awful lot of drama or roleplaying potential in that, so I'm fine with hand-waving the process.
| Maka Na'Shota |
Sorry Tez and I have been dealing with some nasty weather. I'm fine with handwaving it to move along.
Findurêl
|
Thanks for adding the map, GM. I've moved Fin and Izzy accordingly on the map, moving down the stairs...he'll continue on until he finds a room, trap, foe, or anything else significant. If Fin needs any more checks while he's moving, he'll just take 10 as needed (Stealth: 39, Survival (Tracking): 23, and Perception: 26)...
Oh, and GM, Marislova is still with us, correct?
Sorry Tez and I have been dealing with some nasty weather. I'm fine with handwaving it to move along.
Maka, hope the nasty weather is getting better for you and Tez...
| Selena Snoe Yelizaveta |
Yeah, the weather was unusual, but everyone down here kept calling it "winter" but it seemed more like an autumn snow storm to me. :)
Heck, a few blankets on the windows and my sleeping bag was enough. I didn't even need to wear all the warm things I had.
It was troublesome that all the bathrooms were shut down though. It's not like I have my own to use.
And the lack of hot water and microwaves did not help.
I was surprised that we had all the power issues though. Turns out, they didn't just stop using the old power plants but they actual;y dismanteled them. A very dumb thing. They should have been kept as a reserve capacity just for scenerios like this where the windmills weren't providing enough. (I still think thorium based nuclear is the way to go. Far less disruptive to the environment and more reliable)

Are Bull and Tez still with us? Neither has posted in quite a while...hope they’re OK...

Bulvi has been missing from a couple other games I'm in as well, for a couple weeks now.

Noticed the same. Haven’t heard, hesitant to move forward with this bit but don’t want things to stall.
| Maka Na'Shota |
Maka let herself go all out, just this one time.
Tez has been busy with life stuff but he is okay. I've poked him to check in.
Findurêl

Holy cow, Maka...no more mistress of Fire, you’re Queen Empress of Fire! That’s a buttload of damage...glad you don’t break out the fire during monk training...
| GM Lareg |
So are you all fine moving forward with half the party? Given the posting rates being what they are it’s sort of just been a trio, with occasional posts from others. I can keep tweaking encounters, but that’ll become boring if / when the whole party shows up. I’m fine either way. My gaming commitments are shrinking so it’s easy enough to just pop in a couple times each week day.
Findurêl
|
I’m fine with that, GM...when it comes to encounters, we can bot some for the time being, if needed...
| Maka Na'Shota |
Yeah I'm fine with moving forward.
