If he's running the APs as is, it won't be. If he's beefing them up a little (as I expect), just bring a few potions and we should be fine.


Nah, there are plenty of ways to get healing in PF these days. PFS scenarios assume a random party of 4-6 people so there's never a guarantee of a "balanced" party. Anything resembling a balanced party tends to ROFLstomp them.

I'm not saying that we'll lack healing (I for one would be looking for a wand of CLW ASAP--or even infernal healing, seeing as I haven't picked up on any good-aligned applciants yet). More that we won't have access to higher-level non-healing divine spells at the same rate as a cleric or oracle.


I'll echo Crustypeanut: Best spell ever.


My Alchemist has some healing....the only issue he needs to take the extra discovery so other people can use them...or make lots of cure light wounds potions. Not a terrible price at 25 gp each.


Witches make for good secondary healers as well. I don't get a lot of spells, but I could take the healing hex and as mentioned before, a wand is a good thing to pick up.

Unstable chemicals are always my preferred method of healing.

I don't know why I thought there weren't any good-aligned applicants. I guess it's just most of them that care more about themselves/power/their obsessions than the good of others, rather than all of them.

Hello Paizo board people. I am interested in recruiting a single additional player to join this ongoing homebrew PBP campaign. At this point the players have worked their way up from novice Pathfinder Society Agents into the most famous team of Pathfinders in Absalom. Their fame is great, and only getting bigger. These Agents are special you see. Known occasionally as the Freaks, they are all mutated with strange and wonderful powers. They are the Absalom equivalent of super heroes. Recently a member of their team has had to return to Goka due to a family emergency, and the Society is looking for a well seasoned adventurer to inject the mutation serum and join their crack team of agents.

The Game: This game is a long term campaign taking place (almost) entirely in Absalom and its surrounding environs. The PCs are Pathfinder Society agents who handle all the work the Society has in the city of Absalom and its surroundings. The PCs are level 7 now, and the campaign will run for another 6 or so scenarios, bringing the PCs eventually up to level 11 when we will end the game. Feel free to read the original post of this thread, and the gameplay thread to know exactly what you’re getting into.

You: The top two things I’ll be looking at in potential players are their posting frequency and the quality of their writing. We have a very good and stable group dynamic going, and I will only add another player if I am convinced they will be reliable and excellent.

Character Crunch:
Level: 7
Races: All paizo published except for Ratfolk, Tengu, Grippli, Samsarans, Strix, Vishkanyas, or Wayangs. Questions about playing races outside these rules will be ignored.
Ability Scores: 17 point buy, nothing starting lower than 8 after racials.
Classes: Any Paizo published class or archetype, except for the original summoner, summoners must be the unchained version.
Alignment: Any except for CE. Must follow the Pathfinder Society “laws” of Exploration, Reporting and Cooperation.
HP: Max at first level, and then half HD+1+con mod after that. Animal companions/eidolons get half HD+1+con mod for every HD, including first.
Traits: Two, standard rules apply. Drawbacks are allowed.
Starting Wealth:24,00 GP no more than 16,000 on any single item
No crafting other than mundane items, and consumables (wands, scrolls, potions).

Firearms are emerging.

Your character gains the Armor Bonus, Str/Dex bonus of an eidolon of their hit dice. You also get 8 evolution points to spend on evolutions for your character. They must follow the same limit on number of natural attacks as eidolons (including any attacks from their race in the total). They gain no free evolutions, but qualify for the extra evolution feat. They do not gain any other features of an eidolon.

Please create an alias for your character formatted like a standard monster stat block. I don’t like too many spoilers, and I want everything in the standard spot so I can find it quickly. See the other characters in this game for acceptable examples.

Character Fluff: You should write a backstory telling me about your character’s family, where your character is from, and why they are a famous Pathfinder. Backstory is a big part of what makes me like a character. Please use Golarion lore and locations to your advantage, there’s plenty of info on PathfinderWiki if you’re not familiar. The less specific your character is, the less interesting they will be to me. I’d also like a description of your character’s personality and their physical appearance.

Game Stuff:I will use maps for combat, but I have some house rules to speed combat up. I run initiative in blocks, actions occur in posting order, you may resolve your own actions (ie. rolling saves or AOOs for monsters when needed. Sometimes I put monster stats in my profile). If you disappear without warning, I reserve the right to kill off your character and/or recruit a replacement for you. I don’t like to do this, but keeping a game moving is important to its longevity.

The current party are an arcanist, a witch, an inquisitor and an alchemist. I will be looking for a character strong in melee combat to join the team.

I'm the group's witch. Let me just add a couple things that I feel is so appealing about this game. We're set exclusively in Absalom, and there's not a ticking-clock meta plot that is driving the narrative. So we're able to have lives in between the missions, and Jelani (the GM) gives us free reign to explore those lives. Throw in an unstable mutagenic compound that is twisting our bodies in strange ways, and there's a lot of room for drama every where you look.

I'm looking forward to seeing the applications -- hopefully we'll get some exciting submissions!


Or...in my case...instead of twisting our bodies...it has twisted my mind.

Though...it has...on occasion, had physical manifestations on my character as well, leading to a long period of wearing full body robes, gloves, and a mask.


Perhaps this is the chance I have been looking for to make the twin tyrannosaurs build... it usually only works with a high lvl summoner... but here I could do a hunter... give me a bit to figure it out.

Backstory:
Mattera was born in Druma, the third generation of mercenaries from the orient for the Desudav family in Perth. Some time ago, a member of the Kalistocracy was making a fortune on Jade in Minkai and made an impression on a particular set of mercenaries known as the Black Oni. After offer and counteroffer, there was an agreement made that a certain portion of the Blacks would relocate to Druma to observe their storied and ancient culture for an amount of money and comfortable living that was acceptable to both sides.

He was raised for battle. The black jackets of Perth were world renowned for their ability to defend wealth through vigilance and ferocity. Crime was a veritable myth in the capital city for the past few hundred years. He traveled the country as soon as he was able to draw a bow with his family in their protection of trade routes. The pay was excellent and the jobs were varied. They had a good life.

Mattera favored the weapons of the east, settling on a particular Tetsubo his great uncle used to use. A viciously heavy weapon, he was able to build his strength to great extent just by training with the thing. He became quite adept at it as well, since he fought off some bandits and some hobgoblins when they attempted a raid on a caravan he was using.

That was until he laid eyes on Mae Icethorn. She was a prodigy of business acumen and had spun circles around anyone she worked with. She was so unbelieveably successful that some believed she fulfilled some sort of prophecy of Kalistrade, and some believed she was just a pompous girl who kept getting lucky.

Regardless of this, at the ripe age of fifteen, she had already amassed as much wealth as many of the members of the Resplendent Bureaucracy, and had used Sun Orchid Elixirs to regress her age back to nine, because she preferred her dresses from back then, and because it really threw off her business partners. Having heard of the Blacks, she used a back end deal to nab one from the High Prophet’s payroll, and she had strolled through their estate without warning to pick one she liked. Seemingly at random, she picked Mettera, who was none too pleased about the appointment at first, but due to his upbringing and his desire to do his family proud, he did his duty.

Eventually, the two became quite good friends, with her calling him her big brother despite the obvious racial differences. Within the year, she spent time on the Resplendent Bureaucracy, the youngest to ever do so, and left as the custom after five years. The two of them, along with a fair amount of other people in their entourage, headed for Absalom to explore business opportunities there. Which was where the trouble really began, and Mattera’s keen eye exposed the secret. The closeness of their working relationship, he as a tough but capable and exotic young man caused Mae to desperately fall in love with Mattera, but the Kalistradian Cult forbade her to ever touch him. So she kept herself under the age of puberty with the Sun Orchid Elixirs she could easily afford in order to subdue her passions. But it was still difficult for her in that and other ways.

He had also succumbed to something like love for her as well. He was a young man, and though there were interested parties, the fact that her mind was so sharp and eloquent, every other woman he met paled in comparison to Mae’s tremendously powerful capabilities. He was in awe of her, like a sunset, like a dragon’s hoard, but the repressed feelings he kept for her religious beliefs and for her far too young body had to be released in some way. So at night, he’d often escape her estate to pick fights with ruffians in the street. He fought with the fury of a demon, and so well represented his heritage that he began to be known as the Black Oni on the streets. He’d come back bloody in the middle of the night, have her alchemists fix him up and be ready for a full day of whatever she desired for him to do.

New wealth in Absalom goes through some more rigorous testing than it does in Perth. Several times they had to fight off attempted robbers and thieves. There was even a concerted effort by several vendors to muscle the retired Bureaucrat from Druma out of her chosen field, Antiquities. Realizing she needed a more of an insider voice, she bribed a few people to allow Mettera to receive a field commission to the Pathfinder Society. Keeping that a secret wasn’t a priority, as she wanted people to know how wealthy actually was, and Mettera was able to keep an eye on the Scarni and the Exchange through his contacts there.

When the Freaks began their reign of competence, Mae Icethorn easily and quickly procured a sample of the mutagen and offered it to Mettera. He could tell by the look in her eye that she was hoping that him being different would allow her to let him go and think of him as something other than what she did. To spare her heart, he took it immediately, without thought. But very little happened to him physically that could be seen. Mae ran to her room and wept alone.

That night, when he went out to fight, his opponents sometimes would break their weapons on his skin, and when they managed to make him bleed, his blood was like some sort of liquid metal. His insides felt like they were on fire, but he never felt more powerful. In the morning he put together a letter.

I like this story, but your character must be a Pathfinder Society agent. There is a very limited amount of the serum, and its existence is a closely guarded secret. It would only be given to Agents who the Decimvirate could keep a close eye on. Perhaps you could work in a transition from body guard to Agent somewhere in there?

Besides the information he was able to relay to her, this had an ulterior motive behind it as she found it increasingly more difficult to keep him near her and continue to keep her mind on her money. This did not pass by without his notice, and one day he showed up with an extended Leave of Absence form when he realized that she had gotten as much from the Pathfinder Society as she was going to get. She had become much more established and she was no longer in desperate need of his services. She accepted the form without so much as a word, but cried in her chambers for days.

Eventually he was sent off on a few assignments around the area, making a name for himself as an extremely competent, if not somewhat unpleasant bodyguard and muscle for expeditions. Having saved the lives and fortunes of several influential Pathfinders in his years of service, and earned the enmity of some others, for whatever reason it pleased the Decemverate that as a person who’d proven himself loyal to the Society, he would make an excellent test subject. He had minimal physical alterations, but actually became better at the very things he was already quite good at, with some minor side effects.

When the Freaks began their reign of competence, he’d kept an eye on them. Unlike him they were not supposedly good enough on their own to become Pathfinders, but as he kept gathering information, he discovered this was likely a ruse to get them to be more willing to take the experimental drugs. Before he was able to meet up with them directly, he was sent to Magnimar on a mission that required his particular expertise. He returned to Absalom in the last couple days and thought to see in on them.

Personality:
Mettera is quite suspicious of people he doesn’t know well, and often of people he does. He very rarely smiles and when he laughs, it’s usually in a mocking way. He’ll often say things that are inflammatory and offensive, just because he is usually more at ease when people are not at ease and will likely make mistakes that give their true intention. Far from having a winning personality, he comes off as dangerous and rash, when everything he does is actually cold and calculated. Getting to know him does not necessarily mean you’ll like him, but he is effective and perceptive and true to his word. When he does make friends, he’s dangerously loyal.
