I apologize very much so GM Canyon R but i have been trying hard not to get sick as well lately, and all its given me is a headache. I am having a problem trying to remember where I am in this, if you could let me know I'll have a post up posthaste to the best of my ability.

GM CanyonR |

Some of our players being incapacitated has made start to rethink how I am planning on running the next section of the game. It will be important that each character, individually, makes it through the next section. I can see how the whole party could be held up if one or two people are unavailable for a few days. And yes, I'm trying to talk about this without giving away too much.
I'm wondering if we could schedule a day or two where everyone is confident that they will be able to post several times. It wouldn't have to be at the same time, but just within that couple of days. I know real life will always be hard to predict but I thought I would ask. What does everyone think. Could we find a day or two and schedule the boat arrival for then? Or are their any days coming up that someone already knows that they won't be able to post and we should time it to avoid?
Thanks

GM CanyonR |

Mangur: Great, thanks.
Alika: Wow, I'm glad I asked. I can't imagine that kind of separation, I don't think I could do it. I hope you have a safe trip and enjoy your time being reunited.
We will definitely speed up the boat trip and make sure it lands this week. I'll wait for our other players to comment before making a final decision but I'm thinking of posting the 'docking' on Sunday night and we can have the 'first big scene' on Monday and Tuesday. (Edit: BTW all GM times are CST)

Matt Cøtteryl |

Well, as i far as being able to post; Mon-Wed 5am-6pm EST (+2on wednesday) & thurs- sat EST(7am-10pm). Sorry I don't know exactly EST=>CMT conversions, since England only has 1 time zone and this may be subject to British Summer Time where the clocks go back an hour.
Anyway really looking forward to the rest of the game.
As said above I should be free most of the time.

GM CanyonR |

Yes, I do to. I know how being sick can make you completely out of it. But I think we have had plenty of boat time and I'm hoping he will be well enough tomorrow to post. That's why I want to start this early in the week. If he's not and it takes more than a few days to get through we won't run into your travel time.
I hope this will work out best for everyone.

GM CanyonR |

Gawain: How is Tristen doing? Do you think he'll be up to posting in the next day or two? I don't want to rush him if he's not feeling up to it. Please let me know. I'm still planning to post the Docking scenes in a couple of hours. And we will let the next part take as long as we need, there will be no rush there. I'm just trying to gauge where everyone is so this works a smoothly as possible.
I understand that what I'm going to attempt is a bit unorthodox. I hope it works out well for everyone. We'll just have to see.

Tristen Almeran |

Ok well I am sorry with this dreadful timing I mean seems like every time I would log on and read the posts just grew unmotivated and just didnt want to post, probably for best as they would have been very poor ones and depth would have been very shallow. I realize I made a character even less adept at the political sniping going than the linnorm knight. Will try and forward him along without an obvious huge shift. Will have a post up soonish

Matt Cøtteryl |

Whoops, yeah, I wasn't trying to game the system just asking some questions as I thought of it. Really the most important question was concerning the level of trade, usually in RL games we have to ask these questions because my GM gives you nothing without specific prompting.
I'll have a better clarifying post up soon. *Edit - up now.*
Tristan/Gawain you don't have to follow Matt he was just giving you the option, not dictating your actions.
So the amount of ships are 'probably' due to normal trade in a large trading centre. But we did get past the authorities with ease, or was it just because the harbour is slight less frequented?
Well Matt has probably been wandering around smaller trading areas for the last dozen or so years. ;P
Sorry for the confusion in my post.

Alika |

For that sorta stuff, consult the Wiki. Everyone in Golarian who is even remotely educated should know that Taldor is a heavily mercantile nation. Everyone speaks Taldane, with the exception of some of the savages in Garundi. There's no reason why an avid traveler would not know that.
As for volume of trade, well... there's no "economics" skill check, but I'd rule that that would be yet another Kn. Local roll, just to recognize whether or not this is "normal."
I think tactics is Kn. History, but don't quote me on that, it is 5 in the morning, and I haven't slept enough.

Matt Cøtteryl |

Well, it really depends upon how much is at lot of ships. And as Matt has not been to Taldor [so no ranks in Know(local)] and may have avoided some of the larger merchantile ports [it's too easy to end up a victim there]. There is a big difference between the Real shipyards of Hull, Portsmouth and Singapore all are 'busy' shipyards but the is an exponential difference between them.
Thanks, Alika for pointing it out though.
BTW what language is common? Matt knows that and Taldane?

Alika |

Out of curiosity, how... subtle would it be to pursue our employer with police action to get our belongings back?
It is rather obvious that a captain who does not wish to have his reputation ruined would not guarantee our things and then his back while it was made off with by thieves. I'm just wondering if this would be a valid tactic, or if you as the GM think it's petty and wasting time.

GM CanyonR |

Alika |

True, true. But the letter did say he wanted us for our skills. I mean... There's hearin' about 'em, and then there's displayin' em. And discretion does not mean running around town asking directions to this dude's place.
It was just a thought that occurred to me as I was going about my evening chores. Alika isn't actually bound to any of the stuff that is "missing" now. She's just trying to get a base-line for what's going on in the town so she doesn't walk in blind. He said our skills could be of use to him, if it's not in Oppara (as her Diplomancer powers have divined), it's gotta be somewhere in the city, and she'd like to know that before she comes calling.

Alika |

Ah, yeah. When I say that I've participated in political campaigns before, my husband has run me through the gauntlet that is Pitax around the time that Castruccio Irovetti took power. My poor little bard-priestess of Calistria has lost friends, lovers, and brothers and sisters of the faith to political machinations.
Example, her lack of ability to reliably do something about the evil dick who was oppressing the town led to said evil dick calling a host of black dragons down to destroy it when she picked up another spell-slinging companion to threaten him. Those black dragons melted her prostitute sisters to paste, then a dragon scale wearing warrior priest killed her wizard friend, then she was robbed of her oracle and healer by a large black dragon.
So, yeah, I am ultra careful around political campaigns now.
I will try to dial my automatic distrust of "altruistic" nobles seeking help from outside sources down a bit.

GM CanyonR |

Alika |

Oh no, it is. Very. My bard's objective was to learn control from the evil dick, but was actively trying to influence him with her good nature. Only, you know, CHA 22 vs CHA 26 didn't work out so well.
I assumed as much for this campaign, which is why even though I haven't taken Oratory for my first versatile, I have invested heavily in diplomacy. Likely my level 5 feat will be skill focus Diplomacy.
As for what I'm planning for Alika, she just wants to have a better idea of what we're conceivably up against. Stands to reason that this noble has enemies here, or what he wants to do doesn't gel with the current seated government or what tools he has at his disposal. I/She assumes that he wants a fresh perspective on what he already knows, and he can't trust any of the natives to get it done. But she's not going to walk in completely ignorant and waste this dude's time asking silly questions.
If you are positing it as a business proposition, most people look into those pretty seriously before they decide to apply or accept employment. This is Alika's first "assignment" as a free woman. Yes it is an opportunity to gain more support for her ultimate aims, but she's going to want to know as much about the inducements and the incidentals as possible before deciding.
Again, the calling the law enforcement thing was something I thought of while I was washing up. It wasn't really thought out.

Tristen Almeran |

Damn I feel bad guys I am personally very sorry I will be more active from now on being sick was some of it but our internet going down didnt help either made me lose an English paper I was writing so has thrown me all off track so look forward to getting things back on schedule and pursuing this mystery :)
also on my game there us no more traps or anything this last fight in this adventure so :) boss fight haha

GM CanyonR |

Tristen: No problem. Just try to post as soon as you can. You guys can pick up at what ever point you want. If you two followed Matt to the tavern then read up on all of his posts where he names you. Then post what you are doing and I'll let you know what happens. Hopefully it won't take long to get you caught up.

Alika |

Sorry about this. I'm trying to get into a character whilst making preparations to leave the country for a couple of months, my mind is a bit scattered.
Essentially, Alika wants to have a reason to approach other than the letter. She could go down to the theater district and see that the players there all have noble patrons, maybe, or better clothing than she currently has on her, which would induce her to go find her very own.
Then again, it might just be me being a bit scattered and making too big of a deal out of all of this, and I should just get the story movin' :P
