So, can I get a description of the space between Temellen and I? Is it clear? How far? I plan to dagger him, disable him (via the promised double knife in spine), then do... Things.

Sinathel |

As a heads up, I'm traveling this week to do an on-site training. The location is about a 12 hour drive away. (Yes we are driving) I'll be gone most of the week and my posting will likely be sporadic until I return home, as I don't know how much free time I will have.

Olivius |

Sinathel should be back soon. Cool. :)
So, is Regos coming with us? That last post implied, to me, that he was needed to help control the mountain.

Olivius |

Also: on alignments, do you get XP every time you fulfill it, or just if you have fulfilled it at least once in the time between camping? I suspect its the latter, but my XP greed hopes its the former because I would gain at least one from the trap tunnel. ;)

Sinathel |

I need to play a little catch up today. So many posts, so little time before to post. Is the Earth Elemental Move Repair valid? I see it as a self healing type move by absorbing materials nearby into itself.

Olivius |

Glad to see you safely returned, Sinathel! Time to blow this popsicle stand!
Edit: That moment when you've ealized that you've just lost your second throwing knife and are down to 1. Grr. I hope this portal leads to someplace with a competent weapon smith or store.

Sinathel |

Yes it is! Just need to wrap a few things up with Sinathel and through the portal we go!
Some Questions as I form a Post: How hampering to her movement is this net? Could she just rip it off now that it's not being electrified? (Or is it still charged?)
Just trying to make sure I'm following everything that happened while I was gone.

Olivius |

Another thought!
Can you create bonds with NPC's? I'd like to propose a bond with:
Temellen, "I will stick a throwing knife in your spine and then gut you, slowly. "
Yala, "This woman is an enchanting mystery. I will discover the extent of her talents"
Regos, "This man is disturbingly direct. I will teach him the value of subtlety. "
Bolus, I haven't thought of a bond for you yet.

Olivius |

Bolus: not at all. You should read what my Tetori did to some rats in Skull and Shackles. Or to bandits in Kingmaker. You're fine. ;)

Sinathel |

Also, since most of the Mimics were taken care of by others while I was gone, is it okay for me to say that while the others focused on the Mimics that Sinathel focused on messing with all the Tech? Sinathel Smash!

DM Frogfoot |

Bolus: your description was gory but appropriate. I loved it.
Olivius: I like those Bonds, and though the NPC ones won't reward XP, they're a great way to keep track of your developing relationships with the other inhabitants of Gaia.
Sinathel: the panel and the control rods were destroyed by Regos already, but the table of equipment was relatively unscathed - you can destroy it now, it's within arms' reach of you. However, the glass tanks on the far side of the cave would take too long and you're being ordered to go through the portal NOW. You can choose to defy danger and try to smash the insect-swarm technology as well, or you can trust to the violence of Numaloyo's explosion to finish the job. Up to you.
Beyond that...
As everyone is going through the portal (I assume), now would be a good time for an End of Session move before we start the next chapter, in a new period of time in Gaia's history.
End of Session (Chapter 1)
When you reach the end of a session, choose one of your bonds that you feel is resolved (completely explored, no longer relevant, or otherwise). Ask the player of the character you have the bond with if they agree. If they do, mark XP and write a new bond with whomever you wish.
Once bonds have been updated look at your alignment. If you fulfilled that alignment at least once this session, mark XP. Then answer these three questions as a group:
Did we learn something new and important about the world?
Did we overcome a notable monster or enemy?
Did we loot a memorable treasure?
For each “yes” answer everyone marks XP.
During the interminable amount of timeless time that you spend stepping through the portal, I'll allow a Level Up move if you have the requisite XP.
Level Up
When you have downtime (hours or days) and XP equal to (or greater than) your current level+7, you can reflect on your experiences and hone your skills.
Subtract your current level+7 from your XP.
Increase your level by 1.
Choose a new advanced move from your class.
If you are the wizard, you also get to add a new spell to your spellbook.
Choose one of your stats and increase it by 1 (this may change your modifier). Changing your Constitution increases your maximum and current HP. Ability scores can’t go higher than 18.

Sinathel |

I was referring to things she would have been doing while I was stalled because I was traveling, something that wouldn't have messed much with the established story. Not necessarily right at this moment.

DM Frogfoot |

No, escaping the electrified net would've taken a defy danger roll, which I didn't make for you - so you were just stunned under the electrical net while you were away. Made it easier for me to focus on the action instead of DMPCing. It was only after Withers was burned up in the lava that the net became un-electrified and you could take it off. :)

Bolus |

Hrm.
No Bonds.
If you fulfilled that alignment at least once this session, mark XP.
Maybe? Bolus stayed near bugs to save the elephant. If that counts then it's XP
Did we learn something new and important about the world?
Bolus certainly learned a lot about the people he was travelling with!
Did we overcome a notable monster or enemy?
The Mimic leader Dr.Orwell qualifies I think.
Did we loot a memorable treasure?
Time arrestor device maybe? Olivus' dagger counts for sure I think.

Olivius |

End of session Evaluation:
Bonds: "Sinathel knows incriminating evidence about me". I believe his is resolved because the player I had stolen from is no longer with us. Do you agree, Sinathel?
Alignment: I think the zipline counts as leaping into danger without a plan. :)
Did we learn something new and important about the world?
Yes. The bacons could be technological, meaning this isn't a slowly developing natural phenomena.
Did we overcome a notable monster or enemy?
Yes. Scientists and salamanders
Did we loot a memorable treasure?
I did. :)
If Sinathel agrees, That'll be 5 for me, just enough to Level!

Sinathel |

What about bonds with Hawke? Leave them for now?
Destroy a Symbol of Civilization
Between saving the Elephant from where he was being tortured with Technology via the bug-men and her attempts at the destruction in the volcano. Even if the final blow was done by the lava/Volcano itself, she feels she aided in that destruction.
Did we learn something new about the World?
Yes, that in the future there is an event called the Calamity, that trees and elephants are things of myth.
Did we overcome a notable monster or Enemy?
Yes, both the swarm technology (and the freeing of the Bull!) and the Scientists that were using strange future technology. We managed to hold off an eruption long enough to take care of them too! Oh yes, and we made that cowardly, lying elf named Temellen to run off with his tail tucked between his legs.
Did we loot a memorable treasure?
Yes, that ceremonial knife is the first thing that comes to my mind.
@Olivius: Yes, I agree it no longer applies. I actually want to resolve a bond with you, if you agree. I feel the relationship between Sinathel ans Olvius has changed.
Resolve: Olivius smells more like prey than hunter.
Replace with: Olivius is learning to be more of a hunter than prey, though he still has a long way to go.
What do you think?
Proposed Bonds with new party members:
Regos plays with volatile forces of nature, I shall keep a close eye on him.
Bolus is a strange man from the future, but he seems to see the beauty in nature.

Sinathel |

Okay, even without Olivius's bond resolved, I have enough EXP to level up. So I'll go ahead and do that while I wait for his answer. I had a couple questions regarding health. How much did the Recovery move give me and do we heal any at the end of session?

Sinathel |

So just a flat 1d8 then?
Recover: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Edit: Also, took the move Communion with Whispers. Since Sinathel reaches to talk to the spirits so often, I feel it fits. The other candidates were Red of Tooth and Claw and Elemental Mastery.

Olivius |

Level 4
New XP total = 0
Dex improved to 18 (+4) I am now dexterous as a monkey and the DM will ensure that I never use Dex moves again. ;)
New move: Connections
When you put out word to the criminal underbelly about something you want or need, roll+CHA.
✴ On a 10+, someone has it, just for you.
✴ On a 7–9, you’ll have to settle for something close or it comes with strings attached, your call.
Sinathel: I agree to this. :) I'll be a hunter yet!
With Hawke and Sinathel's bonds resolved I have 2 XP

Olivius |

Proposed bond with Sinathel to replace the one just resolved:
I will show Sinathel that I can be a hunter
Edit: 18 is +3. My bad. :)

Bolus |

9 XP - 8. Leveled up to 2
Bumped up STR to 17
Added move Smite.
Figured I'd go deeper into Fighter territory. What Here is Evil, I am the Law, and the Quests give quite a lot of non combat options. Paladins are pretty cool.

Bolus |

Well let's see what we find on the other side but right now Bolus is leaning pretty hard towards Slay Temellen, a blight on the land. Bolus did enact justice for his dead comrades since Orwell was in charge but Temellen got away.

Olivius |

I'm still torn between the level of rouge I posted and some other class. I'm not sure if "connections" can be justified in this campaign.

Olivius |

I thought about a casting class, but none really fit. I thought fighter or ranger.
Can a fighter's favored weapon apply to multiple throwing knives?

DM Frogfoot |

Ordinarily you know I like to go with the Rule of Cool. However, in the description for the move for Signature Weapon, it asks that you specify its range: Hand, Close, or Reach. The ranged weapon tags are near or far.
Regarding connections: there would be opportunities for you to use Connections if you chose it. If you were looking at a multiclass move, might I suggest Called Shot from the ranger list? It triggers when "sniping" or ranged attacking from stealth, which is your preferred form of combat.

Olivius |

I do called shots a lot, don't I. I'll look through them in more detail. I didn't have time over the weekend and make my final decision by tonight.

Olivius |

I am going to go with Called Shots as that is what Olivius has been doing for this entire campaign so far and I'm just now realizing it.
