Mirana Falataur says with a wisper, "I can create an efficient diversion and draw the guards off the rest of you. But then we must part ways for the moment while I run them through the city and find a place to hide. Another option is that we use my rope and we scale the walls and escape by not using the front gate."

"It may be safest to hold out darkness somewhere in town here and slip over the wall under the cover of shadows. Its a pity not one of us is a smuggler, ive heard of them walking around with things hidden in plain sight. We could try the gates and worst have to fight our way out once we are outside.. they searching people Outside of the gates, not inside. We could just run, if need be."

You there! come herea soldier barks out as the group passes by. Stopping, you all look at the man, wondering which one of you he is indicating.
A frustrated look sets upon the mans face as he approaches the group. Thrusting a finger hard into Magelin, he bellows YOU! COME! HERE
Grabbing Magelin's shirt, the soldier pulls the thin elf into the searching area.

does magelin want to hide anything? perhaps his elven heritage, since any elf is considered magical and would be wanted for questioning by the Seekers?

Liberty's Edge

male Elven Ranger 2

Having no skill in disguise and knowing that he will be taken in for questioning by the Seekers if the guard does figure out he is elvish, which would be impossible to hide if his hood is removed. When the guard pushes his hand into me I will resist. (CMD 15)(16 if Favored Enemey:Human applies.. ive DMed both ways)

The young human works his way through the guard gauntlet, hoping that they can get through without more of a problem than already exists, but afraid at the same time that such effort will leave the elf behind to die . . ..

Female Elf Duskblade 1

Mirana Falataur sees Magelin in trouble and is not the sort to leave a fellow Elf to be captured and tortured by humans keeping her hood up on her cloak she stands 30 feet and watches the procession. She readies and action to shoot the closest guard with a Pattern Disruption if things get violent and then use her superior running speed to outrun the pursuing guards.

the guardsman pauses in grabbing Magelin. Looking at Magelin, and then at the rest of the crowd stacked by the gates, the man grunts.
Indeed.
Letting go, he makes a quick show of frisking magelin before sending him on the way.

where to?

Female Elf Duskblade 1

Seeing the guardsman let Magelin she proceeds to use the jump on the situation to get a head start and moves quickly past the guards before they can turn and look in her direction. She then continues to follow the direction where the others have headed.

I missed that it was a link and not just an OOC comment. But I can't see it either.

Catching up with Mirana magelin matches her pace and the two heads to catch up with the humans and dwarf who made it through fine.

We keep getting a roadblock

M Human Fighter (Archery) 2

After Googling "four lands map" and picking an image to look at, I submit that we should travel "Northish" along the river, towards Kern.

And now that I've done that, the GM's last provided link works for me . . .. THAT's weird. Looks like one of the maps I had examined, though, so maybe that's why?

I agree north would be best

same here, if we were waiting on my agreeing with the party. I am ready to head out.

seeing no one disagree with the statement of going north towards kern, we shall go north.

posting will be at noon

"I will always strive to write better" , 25 years gaming, 20 yrs DM

Nerves still tight from the check point, you all make haste down the long winding path of Tyrsis to the main road.

Getting to the bottom, your eyes land upon an ancient relic, one that has withstood the test of time. You stand upon the Royal road, which runs from Tyrsis to Kern and into the wilderness beyond.
It has been said that at it's height, the free legion and the king of Callahorn maintained not only this road, but several others. It was dreamed to have a road constructed from Arborlon, to Tyrsis, and on to Culhaven. And yet, the people within the lands squabbled, Wars were fought, and soon the once mighty empire of Man fell, allowing its dreams of a highway to die. Except for this road, a lone testimant to the greatness of man.

Mingling with the crowd at the bottom, you go with the flow as they walk to the north, hearing talk of bandits to the south, to the north, and darker things east and west.
Federation soldiers walk with the group, providing protection for this stretch of highway. For as much time as they spend looking out at the horizon for threats, they gaze upon the local populace, searching for anything amiss.

As the day presses on towards dusk, the federation patrol stops.
Men, we camp here tonight. Tomorrow, we head back the Sergeant barks out for all to hear.
people cry out in fear, some in anger, yet the Sergeant isnt listening. A man, wearing silk with rubies in his ears, leaps from his seat on a wagon.
approaching quickly, the man speaks. Hands shake, and money exchanges. Men, lets move on to the next watering station. tomorrow, we turn back

With that, the federation soldiers, 20 in all, pick up their gear and move out.

With the sun setting, you see a light, illuminated on the horizon, of a large building. In the dim light, it is hard to make out, yet you finally see that it is an inn. Well kept, well lit, the Inn provides a secure environment against the wilderness. What you take to be walls of the inn turn out to be a wall surrounding the land owned by the inn. Solid walls, 7 feet high, surround the building and the stables behind. The inn itself stands an impressive 30 feet tall, with well made windows and doors that appear capable of withstanding a giants blow. The sound of a lute playing loudly is heard from within the grounds, encouraging all to come inside.
Standing at the double gated entrance is a man, one with thick arms and thick legs. a Large iron box sits at his feet, a large slot punched into the top.
5 silver entrance fee. 5 silver! the man bellows loudly.
one person, complaining that they do not have enough, is tossed into a muddy puddle, created by a horse moments earlier.
If you want security, you have to pay the man says simply, taking the coin from more travelers.

Female Elf Duskblade 1

Mirana Falataur looks to the others and says, "I would advise that we do not stay at the Inn. First of all this will put us at risk as this is the most likey place patrols will visit along the way and the Federation could still be looking for us. Secondly, five Silver just to get in, that is a large price just to get inside an inn. I cannot imagine what they will charge for room and board on top of that."

M Human Fighter (Archery) 2

"I think we've got enough expertise to set up a camp further up the road, but well off of it. Can't make any promises about security, of course, but I bet we can hide it pretty well."

Two Rangers and a Fighter trained in both Stealth and Survival as well? We better be able to pull off such a basic set-up! Heck, the Cryptic is ALSO trained in Stealth and the other Fighter is also trained in Survival! Lots of over-lapping skills in this group, it seems.

Wait? One of the Rangers is NOT trained in Survival? Interesting . . ..

Liberty's Edge

male Elven Ranger 2

I spent time reading our histories instead of getting my survival merit badge. I blame dad, hes the one that trained me.

"While I am really good at hiding, I don't know the first thing about surviving in the wild, I know it may sound strange.. but I spend my youth and my second youth reading and studying. I am willing to follow you lead humans, I will keep the mid watch."

Male Dwarf lv: 2 Fighter

I think avoiding populated places would be the smartest plan. Also we should avoid main roads.

LIGHTLY USED Human Urban Ranger 1

"Well, I can't say that I wouldn't like to know what the inside of that place is like, but perhaps another day. It might do well for one of you who is a bit of a conversationalist to go see what danger they are guarding against. But yeah, I suppose we should move off the road, get a camp set up. We lookin' for a fire or to keep it dark?"

M Human Fighter (Archery) 2

"Dark, I think, though if we can find a good enough spot, we could shield the light from the road. I would like a fire if we can find such a spot, but I'm not going to count on one."

Female Elf Duskblade 1

Mirana looks to Magelin and says in Elvish "That is understandable Magelin. Many of the elves have lost touch with their wild roots and adapted to living in civilized areas. I count myself among that number as well. Nonetheless, the land will provide all we need to survive and in the interest of stealth avoiding attention would be the most prudent choice."

Mirana looks to Dolin's suggestion and says to him "A fire would be good idea as I have heard it keeps minor predators away from a camp. It also means we have a light source to spot any who approach and a rallying point in case of a fight. A sheltered fire could be used so long as we keep ourselves a fair distance from any traveled roads or forest paths."

"I will always strive to write better" , 25 years gaming, 20 yrs DM

hmmm...interesting decision. not what i expected, but plays out well for the storyline.

Shaking your head at the offer of (expensive) hospitality, you decide to press on for another hour, hoping to find some place that is suitable for your camping needs.
As luck would have it, you do find someplace hospitable, and a little off the main road. Just east of your location, within a stones throw, you see some rolling hills rising slightly above the horizon. Sticking out from behind one of the hills is a lone tree, its leaves golden colored.
As night begins to descend, you crest the hill and see a trampled section of earth, and next to it a small pond of water. several deer, upon seeing you, sprint off into the night.
Going down into the saddle, you see that this location is well shielded from the wind.

so, who's doing what? you can attempt to hide the fire, just make a stealth check for the fire. Make survival checks to attempt to gather game.

Liberty's Edge
