There's no "supposed to" as such (I try hard not to railroad players, although it's occasionally needed)...but your companion has just raised the spectre that there may be a very, very, serious problem and your response is 'oh well, we'll deal with it tomorrow'
I look forward to seeing if your kingdom is run on that basis, as well :-)

Aivar Kurisyl |

I'll wait for some time before I post again to give the others some room to chime in and or surprise me with their actions :)

Arianna Wending |

alright, I was sleeping, and well. There is gonna be some talking to be done, Tristan.
And I have a few objections to the proposals made for kingdom roles. I wouldn't be a very good Marshal, I won't be developing my dex very high, and Arianna isn't much of a nature-y sort.
After thinking it over a little, I might actually like to be Warden? Correct me if I'm wrong, but in a small fiefdom like ours is going to start out as, that's basically the sheriff? I could finally be the rough 'n' tumble bare-knuckle brawling detective I imagined Arianna would be. If not that, then spymaster could be fun.
I...may have a thought for Marshal, actually, but GM may say no way. Some months ago I wrote up outlines for a couple of Arianna's siblings as backup characters, in case I got Arianna killed. I wrote up the bare bones of a character sheet for her oldest brother, Sigmund, as a Ranger with a horse companion named Locke, currently a games warden for House Lebeda. If that's a no-go I fully understand.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

@Arianna - my suggestions were just that and can be cheerfully ignored, they were to get everyone thinking.
No objections in principle to getting your brother involved, I quite like the idea :)
Let's decide which PCs want which roles and then we can see what's vacant and still needs filling.
Love the idea of a bare-knuckled Arianna laying down the law as Warden, BTW!

Aivar Kurisyl |

I can't help but feel that MAD classes tend to get shafted by Paizo's mini-game systems since they're usually tied to having a single high stat.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Perhaps, but kingdom stats get into double figures very, very quickly. At that point, whether your stat bonus is a +2 or a +5 makes very little difference.

Aivar Kurisyl |

Check. I got little to no experience with the actual KM system. The one time I used it as a DM, we pretty much gave it our own spin =P

Wandering GM Wastrel |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Can't harsh the party, bro! :D
OK, now I'm seriously tempted to throw a Red Wedding at y'all, to see if that would break through your apathy.
Innocent Bystander: Oh Gods! It's a massacre! The Starks are being slaughtered! HEEEEELLLLLP!!!!!
Raquel: Huh. Didn't notice that - I wasn't reading the GM's posts. Anyway, I'm chatting with Nariel, so I'm going to let one of the other PCs deal, mkay?
Tristan: Meh. Can it wait till tomorrow? In the middle of a party here!
Aivar: Wait, wait. I think we should try a strategy of forgiveness and reconciliation...
IB: *facepalm*

Narièl Laeric |

Wow, lots of conversation while I was at work today! Incidentally, that is generally why you won't see much activity from me except in the evenings, I have zero ability to post while at work.
I'll get something up in-game a little later. Also, I'm fine with the Magister role, seems a logical one for Nariel.

Raquel Cailean |

Well if somebody actually tells Raquel what is going on, she would be the first to kick some ass.

Narièl Laeric |

I'm not familiar with the Kingdom roles myself, should acquaint myself with them. I guess only one person per kingdom role? No dual roles in other words?

Arianna Wending |

Okay I'd just like to say that the reason I wasn't responding to the bomb drop was because I thought that Tristan and Jhod were having a private conversation in the corner and we were waiting on Tristan to tell anybody else what was going on.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

It wasn't meant to be a private conversation (I tend to put those in spoilers) - I left it open as to whether people were participating or not, although I can see it might have been unclear.

Aivar Kurisyl |

Like Aria, I figured it would make sense from a gameplay pov that Tristan would tell us what's what, or escalate things by himself.
;)

Wandering GM Wastrel |

OK, for future reference, conversations in public spaces that aren't spoilered or obviously private are open to anyone who wants to cut in on them :)

Sasha Yezhov |

Councilor, Diplomat, Spymaster, Treasurer. These are all roles I could see Sasha in.
Realistically, she'd likely want to be the Treasurer, but wind up as the Spymaster. :)

Tristan Aislin |

A bit pressed for time, so sort of just throwing things at the wall to see what sticks. Tristan is going for the good cop thing, I swear! :D

Sasha Yezhov |

Being the bad cop works for Sasha. She's been present for more than one finger-breaking interrogation.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

For anyone going: wait, buried children, what?! - none of you asked where Oleg and Svetlana had gone to over the course of the siege. Which is fair enough, you had other things on your minds; but Jhod would have told you, if you'd wanted to know.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Heh. We're on 1234 gameplay posts. Seems a shame to break the pattern :)
Wonder if we'll ever get to 12345?

Tristan Aislin |

Just so I'm clear, the value under our name for "Liquidation" is the amount of gold we have to play with for purchases?

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Going to give the others some time to chip in before I post NPC reactions.
Curious to see whether everyone else is feeling as magnanimous as Tristan :)
On Kingdom roles, it's now looking like
Ruler - Aivar
Councillor - Raquel
General
Diplomat - Tristan
High Priest
Magister - Nariel
Marshal
Enforcer
Spymaster - Sasha
Treasurer
Warden - Arianna
In which case, you need at least a General, a High Priest, a Marshal and a Treasurer; and optinally also an Enforcer.

Aivar Kurisyl |

These are the ones that immediately come to mind:
Jhod - High Priest
Garess - General
We can also look at our personal ties to certain NPCs, like Sasha's swordlord friend, and decide whether or not we want to try and recruit them when the time comes.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Waiting to see if Nariel/Sasha have anything to add.

Tristan Aislin |

The only likely character from Tristan's past is Audrey, and the only likely role for her would be Spymaster. Unless we flesh out his parents more (one of them with their shopkeeper background could serve as Treasurer?).

Narièl Laeric |

I will, just haven't had a chance to post today. Love the moral grey area we're entering... always makes for great role-playing.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Glad you like it. There's more where that came from (although not for a bit, probably)
I need a decision on what you're doing with Oleg, and in addition whether you tell either Captain Garess (who is eating with his men in the barracks) and/or Svetlana - bearing in mind that Merrim is about to head into the kitchen anyway...
If this starts to slow down too much, we'll resolve it using spoilers while we move forward to the next stage.

Arianna Wending |

If anybody objects go ahead and shout at me but I'd rather be tough and direct than have things slow to a crawl because everyone's afraid of the consequences.

Narièl Laeric |

Sounds good Arianna; sorry I haven't been active the past few days, not been feeling overly well. Strep and now a cold, the last month has sucked... :(

Arianna Wending |

Actually I suppose it's a little hasty to assume we'll be able to sleep under a roof tonight. Eh...
(And I started thinking more about why Arianna's little siblings haven't responded to her letter. There's three possible reasons, one of which is mundane and anticlimactic, the other two are bad bad baaaad.)

Wandering GM Wastrel |

@Arianna: don't rule out the possibility that it's simply because your DM is a lazy git who can only juggle so many Plot Developments at any one time, what with their selfish insistence on occasionally eating and sleeping :-)
(I've no idea if plot developments are something you can juggle, but the metaphor holds, more or less)

Arianna Wending |

That...is a very good point, and I should really just chill out ^_^;

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Or... Tell me what you thought had happened and I'll pick the options I like best ^_^
Incidentally, for those who care about Alignment: siding with Jhod is the more Lawful option ("ACTIONS have CONSEQUENCES"); while siding with Oleg is the more Chaotic option ("SCREW the rules, this is IMPORTANT").
Also, FWIW, my tabletop group had long since dragged Oleg outside and lynched him (in fairness they were pretty ticked with me) - you lot are playing it more like the moral quandary I'd hoped :-)

Tristan Aislin |

That would pretty much be the specific reaction that Tristan is trying to prevent.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Yeah, I didn't seriously think you lot would do that, you've tended to bend over backwards to be nice to people.

Narièl Laeric |

You're table top group sounds harsh XD
Hanging Oleg at this point would definitely seem a very letter of the law approach to legal philosophy here. While we can all agree that Oleg deserves retribution in some fashion, I know at least Nariel would be horrified at the prospect of execution... she didn't even like hanging the bandits earlier on, this would be a bridge too far I think.

Aivar Kurisyl |

Maybe if I had played a LN swordlord-wannabe, that might've happened, but there's no way a paladin of Shelyn would do that ;o

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Tabletop is paced different - you've had days of real time to work out where this was going and how to respond. This whole subplot was done and dusted within a session and feelings ran high - I think they felt I'd sprung it on them out of nowhere, which I really hadn't. I guess it's easier to read flavour text than to listen to it (they were a bit 'yeah, yeah, velvet bags, whatevs, tell us how much loot there is').

Narièl Laeric |

True. I've run a tabletop game for years, and it's a totally different experience than an online PbP game.

Aivar Kurisyl |

One of the biggest differences between PbP and tabletop for me is that I find myself to be way more inquisitive when I'm seated at the table. I tend to follow the DMs lead way more in PbP situations and, usually, don't want to bog down the game with what might be superficial stuff that won't go anywhere. Striking a balance between all of that in a PbP game is something I feel I haven't quite managed yet.
And, as fate would have it, when I previewed my initial post I found myself staring at a DM post. So yes, the first half of Aivar's post is what he'd have said *before* the decision was made =P

Wandering GM Wastrel |

That's interesting - I find that given the time constraints on gaming sessions in RL, things tend to be tied much more tightly to the DM's lead and there's much less interaction between PCs and NPCs. It's much easier for the game at the table to grind to a halt so there's much more incentive for everyone to keep things moving.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Anyway, you need a decision on what happens to Oleg.

Raquel Cailean |

Don't have time for a long post today, but Raquel's vote is for exile rather than execution.

Aivar Kurisyl |

Perhaps it is the 'Dutch gaming experience' that's to blame. We talk. A lot. We negotiate. A lot. Everything boils down to finding consensus. Even Dutch LARPs are subject to this, with rivaling factions opting for talks and a deal over duking it out on the field xD
And I am in favor of exile over execution. Them moving to a farm or tavern closer to the heart of Brevoy would be fine. Even better if they can take Merrim, though she might not want to after all that's just been revealed. If so, maybe Jhod knows a place where we can give her a home - unless one of us wants to give her a home :)

Narièl Laeric |

Looks like we decided upon exile then?

Arianna Wending |

I don't really understand what you mean by 'exile', I mean they already live out in the middle of nowhere on the very outskirts of Brevoy.
