Kingmaker - Needs 1 (or 2) more! (level 1, no combat yet)

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 53 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

We already had a player drop out due to RL commitments and I am seeking 1 or possibly 2 more players. The group is still at Olegs and have had no combat yet. The group currently consists of:

Winter Witch (healer, debuffer)
Wizard (Controller, summoner)
Druid (Caster, Archer) - Splashing Zen Archer Monk
Paladin (Sword + Board, Mounted)
Ranger (Archer, Switch Hitter)

We are lacking in the melee AND full divine caster departments right now, as well as "skill monkey" types. Looking for 1, or even possibly 2, outstanding submissions. The group has been able to keep up 2-3 posts a day but I'm only requiring 1 (with the exception of Saturdays).

Character Creation Outline:

Quote:

20 Point Buy!

Start with 11 PB, and gain 1 additional point for each of the 3x3x3 fulfilled:
Create 3 allies, 3 acquiantances, and 3 rivals/enemies. Describe in 2-3 lines who they are. This will help me integrate your character into the campaign with ease!

2 traits, PLUS one free trait from the Kingmaker Players Guide.

You will be granted an additional feat or trait of my choice based on your character background.

Allowed material: Basically anything. If it's 3PP, just ask first and let me OK it.

Encouraged classes:
Druid, Ranger, Shaman (KQ 21), Bard, Time Thief/Warden

Yes, you will be powerful level 1 characters! But be wary because the Stolen Lands are littered with the corpses of those who also thought they were powerful...

Campaign:
Disclaimer that this IS my first PbP! So please bear with me.. I've followed along as best as I can to learn the proper styles. Also more than willing to accept anybody who has played Kingmaker before (as long as no metagaming etc) or other first time PbP-ers.

You can check out the game-in-progress here to get a feel for it. I will hold recruitment open until at least tuesday afternoon, so show some interest and get your character in quick!

I'd be (still) interested, originally I've applied with this character, but I see you have a ranger, so let me try and make a rogue this time. Should be done tomorrow...

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

I'm interested as well - Rogue, Fighter or Sorcerer be useful?

Scarab Sages

I would enjoy trying this, although I probably won't be able to get a character up until Monday afternoon; but I'll start creating a healing oracle.

Edit: Are you just straight up rolling for hit points?

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

I have a re-incarnated druid idea I would like to play about with. Will post it later when I am not at work.

I can commit to 3+ post a day, usually active on the boards between 5pm and 10pm PST, but I try to post in the morning before work and occasionally on the lunch break as well. Melee and full divine caster leads to a full tank righteous cleric, but I'd be happy to play a skill monkey rogue as well. I'll get the cleric posted and then if you have interest in the skilled rogue please let me know.

@aran: yeah I had 4 archer applicants and needed to turn 2 away. :(

@alex: submit anything you like but my original post details what the party has and is looking for.

Full HP at 1st level is the rule, as standard PF. roll beyond that.

@bombadil: feel free to post both :)

If you want I'll re-submit my character?

righteous cleric completed

Jon Silver was born the son of a noble, Duke Medyved, unfortunately his mother was the maid. Life for the young bastard was difficult in the manor house. Although he lived in the servants quarters with his mother, his genetic heritage was obvious and the scandal of his birth and the Duke's affair with his mother was the subject of whispered gossip throughout the halls of the manor.

This event defined the early part of his life and his relationships with those in the manor house. The two legitimate sons of the Duke loathed his presence, for obvious reasons, and treated him horribly, bullying the young boy every chance that presented itself. Jonathon didn't take the abuse without fight and more than once bloodied the noses of the older boys that tormented him. This retribution would have had any other servant boy thrown from the grounds, but the Duke always intervened and allowed him to stay, secretly proud of the strength in his illegitimate son.

His defiance and resolve to stand up to the bullies made him a hero among the other children of the servants, a symbol that a person's blood didn't define their worth. His biggest fan (and his first crush) was Rosie, the daughter of the cook, a shy girl that was constantly teased for her weight except when Jon was around, then no one dared peep a discouraging word. Even years after his departure from the manor house, Jon would find himself thinking about her.

Time changes everything though. His mothered perished from a creeping sickness that healing couldn't stop, succumbing to the disease in Jon's 13th winter. Even the Duke couldn't prevent his departure from the manor at that point, yet in his kindness he provided for the boy, setting him up with a job at the temple of Gorum. A priest that had long been a friend of the duke, Jakeson Wells, a man of both cloth and steel, taught the boy a new path. The way of faith and divinity suited him well, but the fire of youth and his penchant to confront those he found wrong conflicted with the passive attitude of other members of the cloth, especially acolyte Melthos. Jakeson recognized the brewing conflict and found Jon an outlet in practice with the city watch.

Under the tutelage of the watch captain, Karn Galler, he learned the skills of weapons and armor. The captain knew Jon's heritage and admired the youth's efforts and fortitude, seeing him as a common man's noble. Soon Jon found himself on patrols one night a week with Maluk and Shem, his training partners from the militia grounds. His watch fellows helped him spend the few coins he earned, enjoying drinks at the local taverns and proud to have the simple man of faith as their friend.

I guess I should also make note that I have a strong distaste for human males. Let's see some creativity!

@Jon Silver
Please give a little bit of information on each of your 3x3x3. Check the alias of players that were accepted to see what I'm looking for.

Would you accept the binder as a valid class from outside of PF core? It's from WotC's Tome of Magic, but I believe it balances out fairly well with standard PF rules.

You could submit it... But it's really not what the group is looking for and you would stand very little chance of getting in.

I have been in 3 Kingmakers at least. I got outside the fort once. I might have a skill monkey also depending on what skills you are looking for.

The oracle will be post in a few minutes, but as I said he is using the old campaign's rules. If you like him I will convert him over to your rules.

Link to background and mechanics.

edit:I think this character is 20 point buy. If it works for you I will create the "Create 3 allies, 3 acquiantances, and 3 rivals/enemies."

If you don't give info on monsters for knowledge skill checks I will change to a battle oracle or cleric.

Fair enough. It doesn't hurt to try though, so here we go.

Hugo Ironfist-Dwarf Binder 1

Allies:
Rorie- This is my trusted dog who has been by my side since I first discovered the powers of binding. I can tell him anything without fear, which is perhaps one of the greatest parts about him other than his great loyalty and unconditional affection. Rorie is an energetic dog, with just enough wolf in him that he's hard to handle at times. He is a compassionate creature nonetheless and is always the first to comfort me when I am feeling down.

K. Khartova- During the incident of my discovering binding magics, I was able to save this young woman from the hands of some cultists who had kidnapped her for ransom. I had been admiring her from afar for a long time before this, but I never got the nerve to speak to her, especially with my background. Ever since, she has been a confidante of mine, and has offered me support to the best of her ability, while I keep her in the dark about the true nature of my abilities.

Gorum, the tradesman- This elderly gnome has provided me with work since I was a child. Usually, I would simply run errands for him, like getting lunch from the general store down the street, or watching the store when I was older. Gorum has always treated me well, but I wonder what he would say if he ever found out about my abilities.

acquaintances:
Sirish- This innkeeper keeps very well to herself and allows me the privacy I need to do my research and to contact the vestiges that help me. I know very little about her, but her ignorance is... convenient.

Ronove, the Iron Maiden- This vestige was the first one I bound to, and her undying confidence and determination brought me out of a depression that threatened my life and livelihood. At the same time, that influence often gets me into trouble whenever a challenge is issued. Although she is not someone I could ever befriend in the same way as a living person, her influence is something I feel the need to acknowledge.

Peika Ironfist- My mother. Although I have met her several times, she left me to the care of Gorum as an infant, saying that she wanted "a different life" for me. I never knew what she meant by this, and I still harbour some anger towards her, but as I have known her, she is not a bad person.

rivals/enemies:
Slissth- This cloaked man is the leader of the cultists responsible for the kidnapping of Khartova. I have only seen him once, and he nearly killed me. I know now to be wary of him and those who he associates with. His influence is far reaching, and he knows my secret, but I am able to stay outside of his view as long as I remain on the move.

James Delfine- This slick human man is the witch hunter currently attempting to track me down. I have avoided him so far by being very careful, but he is vigilant and just waiting for me to mess up. I doubt that he knows who I am, or even what I look like, but I have seen him behind me before, poking around and asking the wrong kinds of questions to the wrong kinds of people.

Ingrid Redhammer- This woman is, among other things, the reason for my social isolation and depression. As a youth, I liked her and she scorned me and used her social power to turn me into a pariah. So, I embraced my isolation. Ingrid works only toward her own goals and does not care about who she tramples on her way to the top.

Swagger, go ahead and do his backstory for Kingmaker and the 3x3x3:)

Stat block is up, working on connections and backstory.

I have an interest in this.
This is the reincarnated Druid concept Irnk mentioned earlier in this thread...
Please consider me.

What the hell 'Tensen', I'll throw my hat in. If you accept me before the dismally slow Kirthfinder recruiting finishes I'll back out of that.

I'll start my stats tonight, already have some ideas. They might not be up until tomorrow, but it will cover Disable Device (assume this is what you mean by skill monkey) and be strong in melee.

Sorry Dunebugg, I accept and respect your preference for non-human males, but honestly, for whatever reason I simply can not imagine and breathe life to some different creation.

Personally, I have tried a few times, but I do not see as fun playing female characters myself (I am not saying it is "wrong" or whatever, I'm just saying I do not like it).

Also, some more "exotic" races like tieflings or asimars or whatever are...let's just say too strange for my taste. I have a hard time understanding this kind of character, his motivations, his interactions with the surrounding - probably I'm simply not "imaginative" enough, but that's the truth, I can not really "connect" with characters like those. I have no issues in someone else playing them, but simply it's not my cup of tea. OTOH, currently I do not have inspiration for anything else besides human, male :-( I've tried dwarf, elf even gnome cleric, and after a few lines it's usually "back to the drawing board".

Now, since you do have a demanding recruitment process, which I personally like a lot, but I know that if I create another human male, odds will be stacked heavily against me, And I will spend 6-12 hours imagining character, giving him life, creating NPC's, enemies, whatever...and then I'll probably get rejected :-(and I'll be like....bleh.

Therefore, with all that said, I have to say - pardon my rant above, but I would choose to respectfully bow out of the process for bidding for a spot in your campaign (which I personally think is great, I've read the backlog so far). Have a great game, cya around...

Here is the skeleton of my (Gaius') submission. I'm only gonna post once or twice with this Alias in case I don't get accepted I can reuse it. I will work on the backstory and 3x3x3 tomorrow. I didn't have time to read the whole gameplay thread yet, so I didn't know about gold. I just gave myself some basic gear. Please let me know if I should change anything~

@Kimefe, looks good.

@Aka: can I get a little more backstory? And the general direction you plan on taking your character? Hard to tell by your stats right now.

@Aran: just because I have a strong distaste doesn't mean they won't get accepted. I'm sorry to see you won't app again. Happy trails!

@Gaius: Traps are few and far between in Kingmaker, but the ones in are insanely deadly. Max starting gold. Looks like you have a thing for Hobgobs, hey? :P Melee ranger 2h style seems to be your direction?

Well, to be completely honest I rolled it up as a human male. Then I read Aran's post and thought "push yourself". I was leaning towards Aasimar, but there is already an aasimar ranger in the party. So I went female, and hobbo again. I do actually really like them, I've always loved goblinoids and hobbies are the most playable as PCs in my opinion. I'm thinking she was mostly raised by a woodsman, and is actually disgusted by the violent natures of her kin. LG alignment is also pushing myself in new directions, can't think of a single time I've played LG in all my years of D&D/Pathfinder.

As for direction, yeah ranger with possible dip in inquisitor to pad out the class skill list. She carries her adoptive father's sword, usually uses it two handed but also has a shield if the going gets rough. Feat wise she'll be focusing on pretty standard two-handed fighter stuff.

Anyway, it's the middle of the night where I live, so I should be sleeping and not thinking about this. I'll finish it tomorrow.

re-submitting Bridgette.

I realize you likely have an overabundance of Human male applicants, that said, part of the reason you do is the 'adventuring' population of Golarion is heavily schewed towards Human males.
Having acknowledged such, may I present myself. While I am primarily a melee-oriented individual(unfortunately not optimized for same), I also have a certain amount of talent toward morale & teamwork, qualities slightly lacking in the current line-up it looks like. In the future, there is a strong likely hood of levels of bard, particularly if that would be most helpful for the team.

Honestly, my general direction is wherever the story is likely to take us, although I have a bit of a tendency towards animal handling/companionship(yes, I am aware of the sub-optimal nature of a negative charisma race focusing on animal husbandry...).
I realized after you mentioned it I haven't filled in much of my backstory & will be doing so now.
On the subject of animals/companions: I would like a Goblin Dog for my companion & if possible one or two more as 'working' animals. There is no cost for them anywhere I have found so I just considered that to be where the extra 'gold' would have went.

Hey there. I was pointed to these boards from ENWorld since I am looking for a game to join. I want to toss my idea out before I comit to anything first. (Also what is PB as in 11 PB. I'll also need some help doing the spoiler space for stats)

Andrea is a neutral cleric of Urgathoa who was born froma Bloodmother(One who bears children for the church) and raised amongst vast feasts and undead so becoming a follower of the Pallid Princess was only natural. Andrea sees death and disease as impartial forces that strike down serf and king alike(She would love the Masque of the Red Death play)
Andrea's motive for 'adventuring' follows two things that quite often happen during adventures: The (hopeful) acculmination of wealth and the production of corpses. Andrea would quite often have detect magic running so she can silently aquire unattended items and her share of money would be sent back tot he church(minus a modest amount). She also sends reports back to the church about lairs emptied and corpses created so they can be used as the church sees fit (10 goblins killed, modest wounds, 4 burnt heavily)
Andrea is more than willing to aid the party in their goals as long as they do not cross her beliefs and church. If that happens, she leaves and alerts her allies.(I'll take her out of the group if their is opposition to Urgathoa groups so I don't cause inter party fighting)

All done. :)

EDIT: Nevermind. Computer just ate all my new work. :P Starting again...

Now I'm done. Presenting what will hopefully be a dedicated healer.

I would be interested with this character. this would be my first pbp.

Submitting Garrick Thorne, Spell-less Ranger

Garrick! Glad to see you finally got your app ready :)
@Robert: Unfortunately the character you presented doesn't seem very party-friendly. An interesting idea, but one that isn't well suited for this campaign. PB in this case refers to point-buy (I'm a very lazy typer).

Alright, lets do a quick recap of applications received and what is missing...
Casters:
Jon Silver, Human Cleric **Missing: Filled out 3x3x3
Rhual Ghaan, Half-Orc "Loracle"**Missing: still need 3x3x3 to earn your point buy bonuses
Aka the Many, Goblin Reincarnated Druid **Missing: Fleshed-out background. Please add a tag to identify your allies/acquaintances a little easier for the 3x3x3
Kimefe, Human Oracle of Life

Melee:
Garrick Thorne, Half-Orc Melee Spell-less Ranger **Missing: Backstory
Gjurd Kovac, Tiefling Magus
Rufus Fitzroi, Human Cavalier (Cheerleader) **Missing: Please add a small tag to identify your 3x3x3. As much as I hate dictating stats to a player, yours are not great. Pick a direction for your character to take in battle and adjust your stats. 13's across the board is a little TOO sub-optimal.
Grendolynn, Hobgob Trapper Melee Ranger **Missing: Backstory and 3x3x3
Hugo Ironfist, Dwarf Binder. **Missing: Backstory, and Character alias.

ok fleshed out some more background. Also want to confirm that starting gold would be max.

Yes, max starting gold.

I have clarified my relationships & re-wrote my backstory. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to clarify the character.

Here you go, excuse the delay.

From reading the gameplay & discussion posts it seems that the departing character was one of your main melee fighters, so I switched Wisdom down to 11 & moved Strength up to 15. Hopefully that brings him up to a more acceptable 'front-line support' role. I also clarified my NPC relationships.
Any other recommendations you have for how I can improve his chances are avidly sought.

Hmmm Would you have any suggestions?(Robert here, changed my name?) I don't plan her on getting all team-killing if the party runs against Urgathoa followers, just leave. I guess alerting the enemy part would be very bad, so that wouldn't happen.
Her recording of killed monsters is something that is mostly for flavor, since it is up to the church if they send anyone in to do anything. Perhaps nobody comes and the bodies remain there. Andrea is more than willing to give healing and sending undead packing wouldn't be a problem, she masqerades as a cleric of Pharesma(sp) with a holy symbol that looks like a Paresmian holy symbol but has a tiny fly on the back.(She uses Death and Magic domains and bluffs to pretend to follow some other deity)

Got my backstory up and my 3x3x3 done. This will be my last post with this alias until after the selection process is done. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

I'll withdraw Jon Silver from the process, good luck everyone

dunebugg wrote:

The previous background was for KM IIRC. I may have to redo it though. I will get the other things done today also.

PS:I am just seeing this post.

Allies:

Thalisa is his mother. She has often been the buffer between Rhual and his father. She also gives advice and he listens to her when he won't listen to anyone else.

Shana has quiet the crush on Rhual and has tried to help him find direction in his life even before their fling.

Bren is a halfling rogue how has always been good at uncovering information. He is the one that told Rhual about the expedition into the Stolen Lands.

Acquantanices:

Gorumax, Rhual's father wishes well for his son, but all this talk of being a scholar has him doubting his son's ability to survive, much less make any indentations in the banditry that is going on.

Kazallin is the person who attempted to teach Rhual how to cast arcane spells. For some reason he is drawn to Rhual, and his abilities which seemed to be going to waste.

L'dean is about 7 years younger than Rhual, and he looks up to Rhual as a big brother. Once the finds out where Rhual is going it only makes him want to be an adventurer more than he wanted to already

Rivals:

Victor D'tran was a student at the military academy. He is a very proud person and when Rhual bedded his girlfriend Shana Victor promised that he would make him pay for it.

Lord Rogarn is not a direct rival of Rhual, but he is highly upset that the young officer showed him up on several occasions before Rhual's incident with the demon, which none of the NPC's know about. He has always wanted to expose Rhual

I'll be fleshing my backstory out a bit later tonight or in the morning...

I asked the party to pick out their choice, and nearly all of them said Grendolynn. Jump on over to the discussion thread and introduce yourself :) We will get you into the game as soon as we finish the combat.

I am confirming if they want one extra player right now; if I get 3/5 yes then Kimefe will be extended an invitation as well. Thanks for all the good applications, guys. I will come back to these if we somehow lose another!

Sigh
Given that the positive comments directed toward me seemed to favor me switching to Bard would you be alright with me switching my favored class to Bard if I do get in in the future?

@Rufus: you were next choice it looked like, yeah. I was going to end up giving you the human feat that gave you 2 favored classes (For Cavalier/Bard) to try and push you to the Battle Herald PrC, which seems like it would perfectly fit you character concept.

I have never looked at Battle Herald, I need to do that now...
Thanks!

When by can I expect that invitation to come/not come?

And either way, congrats to Grendolynn. Happy gaming. :)
