SPECIAL ABILITIES

Traits:
Rostlander (Campaign): Your hardy nature grants you a +1 trait bonus on all Fortitude saves.

Armor Expert (Combat): You have worn armor as long as you can remember, either as part of your training to become a knight's squire or simply because you were seeking to emulate a hero. Your childhood armor wasn't the real thing as far as protection, but it did encumber you as much as real armor would have, and you've grown used to moving in such suits with relative grace. When you wear armor of any sort, reduce that suit's armor check penalty by 1, to a minimum check penalty of 0.

BACKGROUND
--------------------

Aran was born in a small fisherman's village, southwest of Restov. Born as fourth, out of seven children in a typical fisherman family, Aran always had issues to help his parents and work on the fish-boat. It's not that he was especially lazy, he was very active and playful (not to say mischievous), meaning he spent much more time "ground-based" chasing game, wandering through the fields and whatever not - anything and everything but working the crops. The fact, that unlike most of his siblings, he disliked water, just worsened the situation. His father tried to "bring him to common sense", but with little to no success. He did learn to swim, but that was about it.

Soon after that, Aran started spending more and more time with Konstantin, his uncle (father's younger brother). Konstantin, unlike Aran's father, was not married, and has never been a fisherman, instead he had spent some time as a local sheriff, hunter, village guard, and he was even participating in two campaigns as part of local militia. In the second campaign versus some orc horde (OK, it was a bandit group, but we all exaggerate a bit), he was even awarded rank of sergeant and given a very fine blue-green chain shirt as a reward and as a mark of his status.

Aran learnt quite a lot from his uncle, but one of the most important things he learnt from him, is that there is a big, big world outside their village limits, and that it doesn't always have to "eat you alive", as his mother and father used to say all the time. As time was passing, and Aran was growing, he slowly started to work with his uncle as a guide, hunter and as well as a caravan guard for convoys carrying food for sale from his village. In addition, young Aran was very impressed by his uncle's tales of Aldoran swordsman, their legendary exploits and their heroics. All in all, it did not take much for young Aran to become a full-fledged Rostlander patriot.

In his teenage years, Aran developed a strong love interest for one of the girls from his village, and his affection was returned. They became lovers, hiding that fact quite effectively from most of the other villagers. However, as time has gone by, Grace was engaged by her father to a son of the village-chief. He was a good boy, rather intelligent, but of very bad health, and could not "properly" love her - or at least, that's what Aran thought. He did not hate the boy (Kissim), but at the same time, he was madly in love with Grace. They have spent more time together, still hiding the truth from everyone in the village, while Grace was able to postpone marriage. But finally, she could not postpone it any more, and Aran came to her with his desperate plea/idea - that they should run away together, into the big, unknown world. Grace spent a very tormented week after that, trying to decide somehow between her love for Aran (she loved him honestly) and what she has felt as an obligation to her family. Finally, she broke and confessed everything to her sister. Under her influence, she has decided to stay in the village, and marry Kissim. They parted among many tears, kisses and with lots of mixed feelings.

Aran then came home, packed just the basic of his possessions, and went into the night. In the morning, he was awoken by Konstantin, who was able to track him down. His uncle made an effort to try and convince the young man to return to their village, but Aran told him everything and Konstantin understood. He quickly made arrangements for Aran to contact an inn-keeper in restov named Etkal, and gave the boy his most prized possession - his blue-green chain shirt. With tears in his eyes, Aran solemnly accepted the gift, some money as well as his uncle's advices and the two man parted.

Reaching Restov, Aran went to Etkal's inn and the moment he stepped in there, trouble found him. Tavern was occupied by Brinian Alderson, second son of a minor noble of Rostland, and his gang of sycophants. As luck would have it, the moment Aran went through the door, they started to pick on him, and tease him for his "peasant's ways". Young, brash and hot-blooded, despite the fact that he was seriously outnumbered, Aran grabbed a beer mug and hit Brinian straight in the head. The mug broke on impact leaving an ugly scar on young noble's face.

Brinian's cohorts were stunned by the young man audacity, giving Aran precious moments to reach the door and start running. He burst through the tavern door, and bumped directly into a huge man in front of him. Bouncing of him, Aran hit the floor and the guys chasing Aran tried to get him, but the big man was faster. He stepped over lying Aran, and in one or two bear-like moves simply throw everyone around. The moment he hurled the last of would-be assailants to the ground, Brinian showed at the door, his head swollen and bloodied. Invoking his noble heritage, Brinian drew a viciously looking sword and ordered the large man to withdraw.

His request was met with burly laughter. Large man menacingly stepped towards Brinian, laughing all the time. He said that he is more than aware who the noble-boy was, and that it did not matter at all. In the Medvyed family, (whose member large man obviously was) he would simply be beaten as a spoiled child he was. After a few moments, Brinian and his associates turned tail and retreated, but not before Brinian was able to hurl a threat towards lying Aran - "You'll see, if I can not - Irvero WILL get you! You'll pay for this!"

Large man helped Aran on his feet, and then bought him a beer. They sat down and talked, and little by little, drink by drink, Risbur (which was the giant's name) was able to get Aran to open up. They talked all through the night, and Aran told him that he is new in town, told him of his troubles back in the village, and a lot more. It did not take much, and the older man, who was obviously a good judge of character, simply ordered young Aran to accompany him to their "estate". He was one of the senior members of Medvyed family, and he just took Aran to their hold. Risbur stated that they could train Aran further in his craft (hunting), and there he would work for them, repaying them in that way, while at the same time being safe from Brionion's reach.

Since then, Aran has lived with Medvyed family, working for them, but at the same time learning his craft. The moment old Risbur told Aran about Swordlords charter, he felt it was his destiny to go and reconquer Stone lands in the name of Brevoy/Rostland.

Aran is a young man, who wants to see the world and to adventure, trying to get away from painful memories of Grace, and her love. He secretly still desires to one day return to his village, as a man of wealth and fame. In order to do this he needs to be rich, so he can secure future both for his and Grace's family, thus giving him another chance to try and win her love again, this time from a different position.

Still, he is listening to the words of his uncle Konstantin, and he is willing to try all the "nice things" that the world have to offer, before settling down. Also, he is not a strict believer in gods/god, preferring to believe that man can choose and create their own destiny.
