Play-by-Post Discussion

Stats: GMed 8 PFS PBPs; Played 18 PFS PBPs

The Plan

I have invited you here in order to form a group of players that can role play together through several PFS PBP games. My hope is that the character you bring to the group will be with us for a long time. Implied in joining is a commitment to stick with us for a while and not play your character elsewhere. I also expect players to be able to post at least once a day, preferably a couple of times a day, baring extenuating circumstances. If these two qualifications or the details that follow make it so you do not wish to join this group for the long haul then please tell me so. There will be no hard feelings; honestly there are more players that would be interested in this than I can take, so if you are not interested, someone else will be.

I started this post so everyone can get acquainted. We need to wait to start until myself and a character I have invited here are done with the current PBP we are in. Hopefully not too long, but probably at least a week out. Am I jumping the gun on this? Yes, totally. I’m just excited! I think we have the potential for a really good group here.

I plan to start by running Part 3 of the First Steps Sequence. Take note, this is not three scenarios, only one, the third one. It’s a quick and dirty scenario and I am running it to cater to one of the characters I have invited here. After that I will run 3 scenarios in the 1-2 Tier. Then I will look to run some scenarios in the 3-4 Tier. This is important: After I run 4 scenarios I want all characters to be at 6 XP. This will allow us to move on to a higher tier together. As you may notice, 4 does not equal 6 (honest, I was a math major). That means you will need to get 2 XP for your character from somewhere else over the next six months. There are a few ways to do this.
a) Join the group with a character that already has 2 XP to his name, then you will be right on track.
b) At some point in between scenarios play or GM with your local PFS group to gain the XP needed to get you on track.
c) Join the group with a level 1 character and switch to a level 2 character you already have when the party catches up to you.

I already own several scenarios that I can run for you all, but I am also open to suggestions. If there is something you are interested in, speak up!
Character themes are a little difficult to bring out in PFS play because of the modular feel of the scenarios. Largely it will be your responsibility to bring out important character motivations, goals, and traits. However, if you let me know what your RP goals are, I can attempt to tailor some NPC interactions to play off your character.

Mechanical Particulars

I am a Plot focused GM. I will allow time to role play, after all that’s why we are here, but I will also not hold up the story waiting for you to say something. For better or worse, I don’t like waiting. On the good side it means you should not be waiting long for the next thing to happen, on the bad side it means that if you don’t speak up quickly the opportunity to do something may pass you by. If you think I am moving faster than you can react, then please raise your virtual hand and let me know.

As part of the effort to keep things moving, I will roll initiative, group skill checks, and saves when appropriate for everyone. This will get us past the die rolling and on to the action quicker.

For combat, I will be using Google Docs. I think everyone should be able to see them when I post them. Having a browser that allows you to edit these docs is a plus, but not necessary. You will see what I mean when we get into it.

I will need your PFS number and an email to send your Chronicle sheets. PM me as soon as you are able with those things.

Remember that you can’t play this character elsewhere! (Except in between scenarios to get that extra 2 XP mentioned above.)

Please post any questions here. I don’t claim to be perfect. I promise to listen to any disagreements on rules. Please post respectfully and respect my ruling as GM. I’m here to provide an enjoyable game. I will assume everyone is familiar with the standard formatting of a PBP game, so please ask if you are confused about something. If there is anything in the above info dump that you are unclear on or have an issue with, please bring it up before we get started.

Use this discussion thread for talking about general strategy, telling jokes, and anything else tangentially related to the game. Please only post in the gameplay thread as your character.

Assuming you have taken the time to read all this, introduce yourself. I think currently we have a Barbarian, a Bard, a Monk, a Paladin, a Ranger, and an undecided.
