Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

Ok - quick question.

I've been thinking about my declaration for a catfolk character above, probably far more than I should, but it has created a nagging question that I can't find the answer to.

Is there even such a thing as a catfolk boon out there? Has it ever even been offered?

No sense in trying to figure out how to get my hands on one if it doesn't exist...

Dark Archive

Human (Minnesotan) Rules Lawyer 4, GM 5!

there has been one or two offered as an auction item a couple of years ago. There has never been one as a more general release (Gen Con or otherwise).

So, no point in trying to get one at this time.

Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

I wonder how much those got at an auction...

I am practically salivating over the character I could make... trying to put it at the back of my mind, but man that could be fun...

Dark Archive

Human (Minnesotan) Rules Lawyer 4, GM 5!

Several hundred dollars, from what I recall.

Sovereign Court

Male God Forum Paladin 20

I can't fathom why people would spend so much money on a boon.

Says the person who has refused GM boons from events, and still to this day only has two boons laying about, both unused: an obsolete nagaji/wayang/kitsune race boon, and a tian weapon proficiency boon. I intended to burn the former boon when I got it, but never got to it.

Liberty's Edge

Swamped at work today, so very few opportunities for posting.

FYI I will be remotely attending AetherCon IV this Friday night. Playing True Dragons of Absalom to get the <> boon. And a busy weekend so light posting from me all around except for Jack's siege. Because we are on the clock and all.

Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

Hey everyone - so I asked a question about the Eyes of the Ten Series in the PFS general discussion thread.

I am curious if there will be tables for it at Gen Con 2016. If there is, I think that I would like to sign up for it to play with Cyrus (and hopefully as many of our Drongos as possible - Particularly you Chris L.)

Based on our current rate of play, it might be a stretch to get the drongos to the proper level in time, but I figured it was worth asking so I could get an idea for long term planning.

I have a chance to play the series with the group that I am going through the Emerald Spire with, but I have an obvious soft spot in my heart for Cyrus, and would prefer that he get to partake in the story (and chronicles).

Whats your thoughts? Anyone else potentially interested?

I'd be well up for it. We could also (potentially) head to Minnesota and run it there... or you could all come to Texas... or... you get the gist.

Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

With the right group and the right amount of time, we could certainly do it during the Con (or before/after as it may be) anyways, if that is a time when we are all together. (Though despite having to pay to join tables, I would prefer to do it at the con and get tasty boons and such.)

I would love to come down to Texas, particularly if it is during the winter. (though I really doubt the Drongos will be at the appropriate level by then... we would be lucky to get there by the Con as it is...) The challenging part for this is finding an excuse for the whole family, and then finding something for them to do while I go do gaming stuff... Traveling Solo isn't an option. I'm going to go into brownie point debt with my wife for scheduling Gen Con 2016 as it is...

EotT is alot of fun face2face. So many shenanigans... but needs alot of time. More than 2 days.

If you guys can't make it work f2f, I'd volunteer to run it pbp next year when the group is ready.

Dark Archive

Human (Minnesotan) Rules Lawyer 4, GM 5!

I would be 100% sure that will not be running any tables of this at Gen Con. They've typically not had any turnout for that.

Of course, I would love it if you all came up to MN (or we went somewhere else) to play the series. It'd be a long weekend, but would be fun!

We'll figure something out... of that I am sure.

Don't forget, there's also Google Hangouts. I know it's not the same, but I've had pretty good fun RPing on them. That way, Jyri could join in also. We could also set him up as Virtual dude at a table most of us are at with a laptop, scarf and an empty bottle of liquor.

Are they all 2-parters (8-10 hours), or is it just the first one?

... and how are they all only tier 12? Not a big XP reward...?

Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

The Awesome Venture Captains who responded on that thread also highly recommended playing it outside of Gen Con - advice which I will take. I want to play it with our group anyways, so I would much rather find a way to make that work, whether its Google Hangouts, or a big trip, or PbP.

Of course, PbP is part of what has made this group so great, I almost hate to go away from that, but at the same time I can totally understand the face to face shenanigans that can be had.

Which is why I am eagerly anticipating Gen Con 2016...

So we have some time. I'm glad I put a bug in everyone's ear about it. You guys are the best.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Wrath of Khan style? Because I will vaporize you.... or myself if required.

I did some digging on this Damien - Apparently they used to offer 0 xp (except for part 2), but now they offer xp (changed in season 4 I believe). This thread here is old, and has some questions that were answered by the devs.

I am assuming that when the chronicles were updated to add xp, they also updated the last chronicles to show the expanded tier.

Long story short - you get a total of 5xp over 4 chronicles (2xp for the first part), and you finish at 13.2. Apparently once you start the first one, your character is "locked in" until you finish. You also must start part 1 with exactly 33 xp. (just ding 12.0)

The VCs on the thread I started mentioned that Eyes is best played with a group of PCs that you are familiar with, and have developed a relationship with. IE why I think the Drongos would be ideal for such a story. It is a little bit selfish, because I want to do it and so I want to strongarm all of you into doing it with me :) but there isn't anyone I would rather change the imaginary world with than you guys. :)

Cool beans about the XP. "Locked in" sounds a bit odd (ie. no advancement, right?), but fine with me. I will only do the Eyes of the Ten with you guys. I'm not sure why we couldn't (or wouldn't) do it over PbP, though! I know it would take a while, but surely we could find an experienced PbP GM out there who could run it for all six of the remaining original Drongos.

Yea - I would think that we could do it over PbP just fine. Even if it takes 6-9 months, I am sure we could make it work.

Makes you wonder if we could recruit a GM - AJ has already volunteered. It might be fun to get a selection of PbP GMs who would be willing to run it for us and have the whole group vote/select.

Not that I wouldn't want AJ to run it... but I volunteered a year ago! ;)

Of course, with Chris B disappearing, that would leave room for Gunari at a table... that'd mean I wouldn't want to replay it with Angelo or Magnus, though.

This was the source of Damiens suggestion - Cyrus, Ibid, Amaranti, Finarin, Lort, Gunari. The havoc we would create....

I do remember you mentioning that you would run it, but at the time I think it was in reference to the slayers. The more I thought about it, the more I want to run it with Cyrus (and the drongos) - It just took me this long to bring it up again.

I also now have to find a way to politely tell DM Kludde and the rest of my Emerald Spire group that I won't be running it with them... I hate doing that. I'm not good at that kind of thing.

Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

Random awesome moment of the day. Tonya Woldridge dropped by the thread I started.

Much more cool stuff in there than Tonya's quick comment, but it was pretty awesome that she put her two cents in.

And the other VCs have been awesome. Now I can't wait to do this, even though it might be almost a year from now...

FYI I will do some planning of a fee of the scenario s that TOZ is talking about, Steve. Mostly about getting the idea of what was done in the early seasons.

Sorry for my absence today for those that noticed. My mom has been in ill health for the last five years and had a heart procedure today. All went well.

Reading Steve's posts was a really bright spot in a nervy day. I would love for the originals to ride into the EotT, subbing Lockwood for Trapper obviously, and having Gunari would really make it special if someone could run it for us.

Turning in - see you all tomorrow.

No apologies necessary! I'm glad that everything went well.

Also glad I could add a bright spot to your day. That's half the reason I do this. Fun with friends is fun :)

Well, AJ has already offered. Now we just need to figure out a when (not for a while, of course), and a where (if not virtual).

With this one, face to face would be fantabulous, but I realize it might not be practical. If we did a weekend, I would expect that we would plan for 10-12 hours for part I, and then 5-6 for each of the rest. We should not do this in less than three days, so that we do not wear each other out and can enjoy the whole thing. It is a fantastic series... Requiem is one of the best scenarios ever written.

So, if the group wants me to play, I will make plans to do so (since you can only replay once, Angelo will be out of luck!). Perhaps we can get AJ to run a couple of the high tier scenarios as well?

Liberty's Edge

I'd really love to play EotT with the Drongos! Sort of been saving it up for Amaranti, ever since the idea first came up. Pbp would work the easiest of course, but google hangouts (etc) could be arranged, too.

A live table would need a bit of preparation time... :)

You cut me deep, my friend.

I was hoping I could just slide by, for old time's sake, guess I'll have to start looking for a group play Eyes with :)

Oddly, I could probably more easily convince my wife and family to go for a trip to Finland than Minneapolis or Indianapolis or Michigan... or...

... anyway, let's chat more about format when we ding 11.

The list of scenarios linked in Steve's thread above has some really interesting ones in there that I'd like to sub in when we run out of season 7 7-11s. We need to make sure we slow advance as necessary to ensure everyone is the same level also (or have other toons to play like I'm doing a little with Haafiz).

Heh. And I also read John's post the way Chris did (but I think "for" is confusing in that sentence because you're missing an 'out'... it should be "with" and the other way around... I think). Either way though, Chris is an original. He was on board for the very first adventure together, but (along with Cyrus) could not escape the clutches of his game that was running way overtime.

Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

So weird... I read it the exact opposite.

I just took a corny facebook test the other day that said I was "the ideal idealist" always seeing the best in people and ignoring thier foibles. I'm pretty sure I just read that the way it was supposed to mean, and never considered that grammatically it could have meant anything else... :)

As far as the medium for which we play, I would vote for at least partial coverage of PbP. The biggest reason is that I want the story to be recorded in written form for reference later on.

The more I think about it, the more I feel like PbP is my strong preference overall, though I can understand why FtF can be so much fun.

No matter what, if we want to work in a good chunk of those early scenarios, I think Damien is right, we are likely going to have to start slow tracking a few more of these, just to get them all in. We have plenty of time (still at minimum 11 more scenarios after Technic Seige) so I still think we are looking at fall of next year most likely.

Bad writing - was thinking about my inaugural run and obviously you are an original Chris. If I may - Steve you should get this - Paul the apostle was always bent because after Judas he felt he should have been the 12th apostle, but they (the original 11) didn't pick him. Even though a clear read of the bible makes this evident.

Chalk it up to fatigue and poor editing. I wouldn't play if Lockwood wasn't there. Who would move us?

This is brilliant - Subtle, but brilliant.

Through all this chatter... all I'm thinking is how stable the forums have been lately. I've only gotten store down page once in over a week and that lasted like 10 minutes.

Dark Archive

Human (Minnesotan) Rules Lawyer 4, GM 5!

So, I've got a really fun 5-9 planned for the group (assuming we can get it in after everything else), and there are a couple of 7-11s. Mostly helps to understand some of the NPCs you'll be interacting with, and all.

Yeah, the servers have been pretty stable of late. Looking good for resuming RoW and Isle of Dread on the 23rd. I've just realized that that's "Thanksgiving Week" for those of us in the USA, so I'll do a "slow reboot" to help everyone ease into it, and so I'm not expecting too much from people who are likely enjoying the holidays.

In other news, I'll be heading up to Dallas for a long weekend with friends up there (until Tuesday). I'll be light on the posting and often posting from my phone. I'll still get in a daily post on all games.

As for Eyes of the Ten, thank you for the offer to GM AJ, but I would really like to get a very experienced PbP GM to run this for us. I'm thinking maybe GM Bold Strider, Painlord (if he'll get over PFS on PbP) or someone else a few of you guys have potentially enjoyed playing with (like Kludde or... ?). In person, however, if we can make it where you are, it would be awesome to have you at the helm.

Dark Archive

Of course, Damien, we've got 6-12 months to get him experienced. Was planning on enlisting him to run some of the 7-11s. ;)

@Damien I got the hint the first time. There's plenty of options.

That also makes me happy. I am one of those that celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas for a month. Will do my best to stay up on everything.

Dude, I totally would...except...and I've been pondering this for the last two days, it wouldn't work.

I've played EotT. I've read EotT. And I know it needs work to be as epic as it's supposed to be AND be fun challenging for your party. I'd *HAVE* to change it, to fix it, to make it worthy if I was going to run it.

Sadly, I couldn't do that if I ran it on PbP. I'd certainly (especially as this would be a high profile game) get called out on it. And that's not worth it.

I'd be awesome for you though. F#$+ yeah, I would. You'd remember that s&@% forever.

Got linked in by the above yahoo.

1) Super excited for Isle to pick back up. Elon has been posting a few RP things in the mean time!

2) I would be happy to run EotT for anyone interested. After seeing IoD though, EotT is going to seem lacking... >.> What is the timeline on when you would want it to be started?

Hey Bold strider!

1) Went back and read them. Awesome that Elon and Bazsil are still posting. Sorry for the cabin fever. I really needed to de-forum-stress... and it's worked. I'm keener then ever to get back into it. Only failed to post twice because of forum issues since - which, while still poo, is a big improvement. Both times it was back up again before too long - also a big improvement.

2) I've seen your GM posts. I wouldn't worry about EotT lacking! The timeline is a long one. We're currently 8th level (ish) and will need another 12 scenarios to get to 12.0. Even if we manage our previous best rate of 1 every 2 weeks, we'll be at it for 6 months.

... as an left-of-field idea, though... Bold Strider, would you be interested in running for our group in the lead up to EotT also? That way, all of our "Drongos" could play all the time (which would be amaze-balls). I would (and I'm sure the others would) totally buy you all the Paizo.com credit you needed to buy our chosen scenarios with.

I know you've got a large load (what with PbP Gameday 4 on and all), so it wouldn't have to be until your load lightens... but this could be the start of something very special...

By the way, Bold Strider, feel free to dot in on the Zedroom. We often chat about all kinds of stuff here. When IoD opens up, I'll invite Ryan and Mark to join also. Painlord hasn't dotted in, but he seems to turn up (in any thread anywhere) whenever we mention his name. I suspect he loves us so much he checks out our posts (or searches for his own forum handle on a regular basis). I prefer the former explanation.

Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

I was having trouble coming up with a post in IoD that didn't feel forced. Thanks for opening the door for me Bold Strider!

@ Damien - Glad to hear you are getting the itch back. I can totally understand needing to sharpen the saw. I won't speak for everyone, but I have also been glad for the break, but at the same time I am looking forward to getting back into it.

I would also heartily second Damien's motion to recruit GM Bold Strider to run the Drongos up to and through EotT if he was willing. It would be amazing to get all the characters in that up and running together for the "home stretch" leading into level 12.

I had the opportunity to play in one of BS games. (Can I call you that?). Even with his laptop problems it was a fun game that ran smoothly. We would be lucky to have him. Or honestly anyone that would give up free time to run a game for a bunch of clowns like us.

@Damo: I'd love to do a longer "Scenario" campaign. If you guys have a set plan to move from 8 to 12, then I can accommodate.

My scenario load should lighten soon as most of them are wrapping up or close to wrapping up.

@Mtumbwi: Of course. I call myself that!

@Gado: No problem!

GM Bold Strider wrote:

Dude! That's so awesome. I'm not 100% sure on which scenarios we should play in the EotT lead up, but going by the recommendations in response to Steve's post (above) and what's been revealed for season 7 so far... I think I'll come up with a list. We have a Scenario Planner that shows exactly what we've all played (probably could use some updating), but here would be my first pass at a plan that deals with online recommendations combined with only scenarios the Drongos (what we call our main characters) have not yet played:

Season 7

#7-09 The Blakros Connection (5-9)
#7-13 Captive in Crystal (5-9)
#7-17 Thralls of the Shattered God (5-9)
#7–04 The Ironbound Schism (7-11)
#7-11 Ancients Anguish (7-11)
More 7-11s as they are released

Earlier seasons

#0-16 To Scale the Dragon (5-9)
#0-20 King Xeros of Old Azlant (7-11)
#0-22 Fingerprints of the Fiend (7-11) -- Only if Jack wants to use a replay for this.
#0-26 Lost at Bitter End (7-11)
#1-34: Encounter at the Drowning Stones (7-11) -- Only if Jack wants to use a replay for this.
#1-38 No Plunder, No Pay (7-11) -- Only if Jack wants to use a replay for this.
#1-40 Hall of Drunken Heroes (7-11) -- Only if Jack wants to use a replay for this.
#2-04 Shadows Fall on Absalom (7-11)
#2-08 The Sarkorian Prophecy (7-11) -- Only if Jack wants to use a replay for this.
#2-12 Below the Silver Tarn (7-11) -- Only if Jack wants to use a replay for this.

We should play all the 5-9s above first while we still can, and then move on to the 7-11s. I would also like to play the Shadow's Last Stand 2 parter with the alts before they pass level 7 (up to you, Steve). Some of us will need to sub in different characters or slow advance to let those with fewer chronicles catch up (let's figure that out before our next session).

Anyway, there are a few in the list that Jack has already played. If he'd like to squeeze out a replay, that'd be great. We'd need 3 replays, though, to fit in 12 of the above adventures. I think they'll release a few more 7-11s, though, so we shouldn't need that many... up to Jack completely on any replays of course.

For GM Bold Strider, we're currently playing the Technic Siege with Jyri at the helm. We'll let you know when that's done and... unless there are any objections... we can move on and play The Blakros Connection!

Dark Archive

Human (Minnesotan) Rules Lawyer 4, GM 5!

So... for the replays... on pretty much all of them I would say probalby not. I also just played Shadows Fall on Absalom. I could run some of those, however.

I have heard To Scale A Dragon is wonderful, and You Only Live Twice is really good, too (and should have been listed in TOZ's thing). Now, I would also so that we don't need to do ALL of those... just a few... and pretty much the season 0 or 1s.

Not a big deal, just helps to know the players.

As for others we could play for some of the alts:

Frozen Fingers of Midnight
Mists of Mwangi

I have been told we should really play Black Waters.

Silbeg wrote:

Frozen Fingers of Midnight

I played both of them. If Steve wanted a break I could run those for the alts.

Cool. That still gives us 3 to play from earlier seasons with the Drongos. I'm sure there'll be some more scenarios we can play in the middle range. Now that it's an option, I'd rather just play all scenarios together - you know, since we can! As Jack said, it's not important to play all of those recommendations. Will be good to just play a few from earlier seasons.

We've also got the following:

Season 5

#5–25 Vengeance at Sundered Crag (7-11)

Season 3

#3-04 The Kortos Envoy (7-11)
#3-17 Red Harvest (7-11)
#3-20 The Rats of Round Mountain—Part I: The Sundered Path (7-11)
#3-22 The Rats of Round Mountain—Part II: Pagoda of the Rat (7-11)
#3-24 The Golden Serpent (5-9)

Season 0-2

A whole bunch! Just not so many that have been recommended for EotT.

I have a preference for later seasons (better balance and more relevance to current stuff), but am happy to play anything with you guys.

Dark Archive

Human (Minnesotan) Rules Lawyer 4, GM 5!

John, I have played both as well. In fact, Mists was one of my first scenarios played, and the first that I ran.

As for Season 3: I just played Rats I, and will be finishing next month. Guess I should update my scenarios!

Of course, that means I could GM those for you all. :D
